No one was waiting and yet my son still waited for more 2 hrs because they call people to come over when it's almost their turn and yet they don't take appointments. I've lived in Milpitas for almost 5 months. Ive been looking for a new barber for about a month now, to replace the barber I've been going to for the past 3 years. After reading the few previous reviews about this shop, I finally decided to choose this place. and finally decided to give Serra Barber Shop a try. Larry was a really nice guy. Most of our conversation was about my hairstyle, his barber background and good jokes. My fade was nicely tapered and he kept making sure that he was getting it right. He is also quite skilled with the straight-razor (he used it on the back of my neck) so if you are looking for some razor work, Larry is also your man. read more

Mai does an exceptional job with a men's cut. Wait can be long and I've learned that the strategy is to put your names down and come back in a couple of hours. I'm giving this a 5 star despite the wait because Mai is that popular. I don't think the wait for the other barbers are more than 30 mins. Decent price and great service. Just be prepared to wait if you want Mai and if it's a busy day. Btw, they don't take appointments and Mai don't work on Sunday or Monday. read more

With regret I write this review. I have been coming to this shop for 20+ years and it isn't what it used to be. The feeling is more salon like for starters. I long for the old days when Steve, Lena and the old crew were there. The haircuts are still good but the feeling that the people care about you is gone. I'm gonna call this place a "hipster" spot now, gone are the day's that this was Milpitas' last "traditional" barber shop. I heard someone answer the phone and say that there was only 3 people waiting when there was actually six people. I read the reviews here and thought I'd get an awesome haircut. WRONG !!! I got one of the worst haircuts ever for $20. I should have just gone to Supercuts or the Vietnamese mom and pop store. The lady who cut my hair, not Steve, didn't seem to understand what to do, and gave me a horrendous haircut. My mom was astonished to see me. Save your money and your hair. There are cheaper and better places around. I did watch Steve operate and perhaps he's good but certainly not the others. I've been coming here for two years and I've always received great service . . . until today. I asked for the same thing I always ask for. I like a #1 on the sides and back (that's very short) and much, much longer on top. I specifically asked the barber to leave two inches. I repeated this in several different ways so there was no misunderstanding. That means they trim the sides & back with the electric clippers with the #1 setting, and then cut & layer the top with scissors. This person, whom I had never seen there before, started with the sides with the #1, didn't finish, asked another barber about something in Vietnamese (I think) but the words two inches was said. I immediately asked her if she was asking how much two inches was in centimeters (that about 5 btw). She said no, she was asking what size clipper two inches was. I should have gotten up and left right there, but I didn't. I'm not a barber, I figured I wouldn't tell a professional how to do her job (although I now suspect that this person was not a licensed barber but some sort of trainee). Well she proceed to put the longer setting (I don't know which number) on and started on the top of my head. When she was finished, I put my glasses back on and saw about 3/4" left on top. I naturally became quite upset, and asked if her if this looked like 2 inches to her. She nodded 'Yes.' Yes, I was angry, no I did not use any profanity. Then another barber then took the sheet off of me telling me that they couldn't help me. Yelling at me saying, "That you do not talk that way to a lady - we can't make your hair grow back, you fucking asshole." I had to go the salon around the corner to get them to fix it. I've never ever had anything like this happen before. Now I have to find another barber. This was simply the worst hair cut experience in my 46 years. read more

First of all don't even put your name on the list they don't even go by the list. You can put your name on the list the day before for the next morning and they will make you sit in there for over 4 hours even if you're number 2.. They go by who they know and will skip over you even if you're at the top. Also very unprofessional especially the two younger woman gossiping and demanding for more money or that five dollars isn't enough for tip and they need at least 10+ . !!Not the same Barber Shop!!. Ive been going to this barber Shop for 15yrs. Just recently the old guy retired and the young ones carried on his Barber tradition. A clean straight razor cutt. With attention to detail. Well they are gone too, maybe except for one. The new ones are all strip mall super cutts type. With envasise on taking short cutts in cutting your hair. Thinking you wont notice. Will I did and now im gone. Showed up with four people cutting hair and four people waiting. Was told to sit, it would just be a few minutes. Waited an hour and a half while random people showed up and somehow cut my place in line without a word spoken. Finally gave up and left. This place has no organization, no coherent walk-in or appointment system, and from what I could tell each haircut took almost an hour even though it's basically a buzz shop (didn't see a pair of scissors touch a head of hair). It's also impossible to find on a map or GPS and is cash only. Taking my business elsewhere. read more

If you need a good taper or fade, even a hair cut, this place is the right place to go. My barbers name is Mia and she is AMAZING. I been coming here for 4 years and I love it. Sucks that I moved to LA 2 years ago but I try my best to come back often and of course get my hair cut by Mia. Mia: she welcomes you in making you feel good. She has a wait because ppl are waiting to get their hair cut by by her and the wait is well worth it. She takes her time and makes you feel good and the hair comes out looking perfect. ** in all, it's worth the time and money to come here. I have really mixed feelings about this place. Sometimes they are great and other times they are quite bad. I guess it all depends on who you get it cut by. Kelly and Mai are usually the ones to go to...the other barbers are not that great to be honest. The chairs that they have are very comfortable and they are all very friendly people that work there. 5 stars for Mai! My boyfriend used to go to another shop in Milpitas but his normal barber moved to a different shop further in SJ. Being that we live in Fremont, we rather not drive deep into SJ. Luckily we found this gem on yelp and have been coming here ever since. Its super small so you should call for an appointment or see how long the wait is. I have been going to Serra barber shop for almost 5 years and today l went in with a short beard and walked out with a missing patch on my right side. I have been having my hair cut done by Victor for these 5 years and today wasn't any different. I have been growing my beard out and went in for a normal hair cut, medium fade, 3 on top and zero on the bottom. Victor told me he wouldn't touch my beard and that I should take care of it at home. During the hair cut he trimmed my sideburns as usual. He lined up my sideburns and went too low on the right side and took a chunk of beard on my cheek area and when I pointed it out he denied doing it. When I started getting angry and told him to at least even it out he said he would have to charge me. I got even more made and said he was the one that messed up and shaved a chunk of my beard off when he said he wouldn't touch it. He then "evened" it out. Not really he lined up the lift side but it was no where near even with the right side. There was still an obvious difference and missing piece on my right side. I will never return to Serra's barbershop because of this incident. read more

Very Friendly, Excellent haircut, No frills, Long wait but worth the wait, so call ahead and go. I found this place on Yelp. I normally go to some place close to my house and was tired of the crappy Job the lady w as doing and decided to try some other place that also offered shaving with straight edge razor.. The Place is tucked in a corner in the Serra Mall. There is another barber shop right next to Big lots but don't confuse this shop with Serra barber Shop. Place is small but clean. It was packed and every one who was thee see to be regulars, once you get a hair cut here you will you will tun into one too. The thing i liked the most is they don't rush and do a bad job, all of them seem to be very skilled and take their time to do a good Job. I would highly recommend this place. As i said it is bit of a wit but you can avoid it by calling ahead and going when there are not many people. They don't take reservations. read more

Pros -- Very Detailed, friendly, had magazines and several TV's to pass by the time, definite old school barbershop vibe to it Cons -- Long wait and a tad bit expensive for my taste (16$ + tip) I needed to get my hair done for senior portraits (my hair was starting to resemble a forest with its length) and the power of Yelp guided me to this place. Luckily I came in right as a guy was getting his cut finished. I had Mai cut my hair. They had the shaving cream and straight blade like everybody else said.
