Poor Communication and Unauthorized Charges I scheduled a $147.56 Premium Maintenance Package and an oil leak inspection online for my son's 2023 Hyundai Elantra. The $147.56 service was for the 45,000-mile maintenance, which was the option presented during scheduling and the service I selected. Since I was attending a funeral, my 20-year-old son dropped off the vehicle. When I spoke with Nathan Jones, I was told there was no oil leak and the only issue was the tires. I approved the tire purchase and alignment based on the pricing discussed, believing I was only responsible for those charges plus the $147.56 maintenance service I had scheduled. On Sunday, July 26, I discovered a charge of $1,541.99 on my account. Today, when I spoke with Nathan and Ty Maxen (Manager), I was informed that the additional charges were for a 60,000-mile maintenance service. I was told my son signed for the service at drop-off. My son believed he was signing paperwork related to a standard oil change and the appointment that had already been scheduled. The appointment was made in my name, with my phone number, and I was the person responsible for payment. At no point was the 60,000-mile maintenance discussed, quoted, or approved by me, despite the dealership contacting me to authorize the tires. If a customer selects a specific maintenance package through the dealership's website and schedules an appointment for that service, any additional services and associated charges should be communicated to and authorized by the responsible party. In this case, that person was me. The dealership had my contact information, used it to discuss and obtain approval for the tires, but never contacted me regarding the significantly more expensive 60,000-mile service. I am currently waiting on Ty Maxen to investigate the matter and call me back. Thus far, the dealership's position has been that my son signed for the additional services. This experience left me feeling fleeced and taken advantage of. Better communication, transparency, and customer authorization procedures are needed before costly services are performed and charged. I hope Serra Hyundai reviews this situation and implements a process to ensure the person scheduling and paying for service is informed of and approves any additional work before it is completed. read more

I had an appointment and arrived early. I was told it was no problem. I'm pretty sure my car wasn't looked at for the first 2 hours. Given that I came in for an oil change and tire rotation, I thought I should have been out in an hour. When they found me at 2 hours, they said I needed a new battery and to fix a leaking gasket on the oil pan which was $550. I told them to wait a minute while I checked a few things. Long story short, the battery price was reasonable but I realized I had a warranty that covered the leak and they should have fixed that with no charges attached. When I confronted them, they had not put in my battery yet and said they'd begin the leak fix. By that time I'd been there 4 hours and needed to leave. They never answered my question about why they were going to make me pay for a warranty covered service not why there was such a long wait. I don't trust them to not take advantage of a senior woman. The only good things they have are the refreshments while you wait. read more

Disappointed in my experience here today. Saw a car for a good price listed on Edmund's website. This location is 2 hours away from where I live, so I called the dealership the day I wanted to purchase and verified that the details and that the car was still available. Me and my wife drove down (in seperate cars because we were considering trading in a car) to arrive for our appointment 3 gours later only to be told the car with the great price had just been sold that day. Classic dealership bait and switch. They of course did have the next model up, which was 30k instead of 24k. And they did have another car which was more expensive and higher mileage. No offer to match the price of the car that was allegedly sold out from under us. I attempted to negotiate for the slightly more expensive car, but it was the same old stupid dealership games: wait 20 minutes while the sales person goes in the back to talk to the sales manager, they come out with an offer that is much more than you are willing to pay. Tell them what you'd like, they come back and drop the price a little. I eventually shook hands and left, wasted my Saturday. If you're not local, don't waste your time driving here. Experiences like this are why Carmax, Carvana, etc are growing in popularity. Oh well. read more

Shady Negotiation Tactics & Constant Number Games -- Avoid This Dealership Salesman Brent his coworker Shannon (not totally sure of the name?) were who "assisted" me. I went in on February 21, 2026 to buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit (Velvet Red, 37k miles) that was listed as a "Good Deal" on Cars.com for $34,795. I was pre-approved, ready to buy today with $10,000 down, and remained completely calm and polite the entire time. After hours of back-and-forth, they refused my reasonable counter (remove the optional $1,995 Platinum Package, waive the $1,495 prep fee, and drop the $995 doc fee to the Alabama average of $400). Instead they only took $2,000 off "overhead," offered me a laughably low $3,100 for my trade (which I declined), and then kept moving numbers around -- taking from one line and adding to another -- so the out-the-door price magically stayed almost the same at $38,889. They would not remove the optional Platinum Package even though it's clearly marketed as optional and mostly consists of one-time perks I would rarely use. I kept being told well we've already removed $2000, so you must keep the platinum package. The platinum package is full of things like massages, pedicures and breakfast and has very little to do with actual warranty work on the car. Every time I pointed out the math, they came back with the exact same bottom line in a different column. The entire experience felt dishonest and intentionally hassling from start to finish. They were harsh and abrasive when I questioned them about the hidden costs. I left without buying because it was obvious the goal was to wear me down rather than give a fair deal. If you're thinking about doing business with Serra Hyundai in Trussville, save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. The sleazy number-shuffling and refusal to remove optional add-ons is not how a reputable dealership operates. Plenty of other places will treat you with respect and transparency. read more

Don't buy anything from the Serra Automotive group that's any dealership in alabama that had Serra I'm front of the name. They sylacauga and Honda dealership teamed up on my 70 year old mother trying to con her by switching the payments and interest rate at last moment and kept trying to add a $1k courtesy package that we told several times we didn't want and the salesmanager yelled at my 70 year old mother when semhe refused it and told them to take it off for the 4th time. The salesmen and management are all snskes in the grass. You can get a better trade in at carmart or just sell it to carmart like we did and them bought car elsewhere. read more

We came in to Birmingham from anaheim CA driving our new Santa Fe calligraphy. There was something warm in the side door frame and we called the service department and spoke to an amazing person there named TY. It was late in the day and we were staying the night and Ty told us that we could bring the car in first thing in the morning and he would personally look at it for us!!! You don't often get technicians who are this incredibly nice and offer his services so willingly. Thank you Serra Hyundai for having great people especially the wonderful personally TY!!! The last service I got from Serra was an "oil change and tire rotation". Then about a week later, I realized I still had an issue with the same tire in the same location that I brought up during the maintenance service at Serra Hyundai. I thought that was strange but didn't say anything but was aware of it. Then it was time for another maintenance service on my car and remembering the tire issue, I decided to mark my tires so I would know for sure if they really were rotating them. Before this most recent service, I marked my driver front tire, but the mark was gone so I initially thought they had actually rotated my tires. BUT when I got home and really inspected my tires, I realized the back passenger tire still had the mark and was still in the same location, so it hadn't been moved. I also put little stickers on the inside of the rim to indicate the location BP (for back passenger), and it was in the same location. I called and spoke to the shift supervisor about the situation and after initially saying they wouldn't issue a refund for the service I paid for - the one they did not do and lied about - Serra Hyundai finally did agree to give me a refund for this tire rotation but not the other rotation (the one the obviously didn't do either). My trust was broken. If you can't be honest about a tire rotation, then I don't trust you with my vehicle. Have you lied every time you've "rotated" my tires? This is only my second time having my car service and it always good to set a appointment so you're not waiting forever. They recently moved from Roebuck Pkway to Trussville and the new building is well spaced out compare to there previous location. The receptionist at the front is really nice and the mechanics always do an awesome job on my car. I can say the only issue is they don't have much complementary snacks compared to the Tameron Hyundai in Hoover, but it's all good. read more

First off we Trusted them Because they were a Dealership but Not a Honest one ! 2020 Palasade I been getting my Oil change with them the last time was Before Mothers Day of 2023 I got my Oil changed because we was Going to Virginia to be with a friend for Mother's Day that weekend. When I get back and drive to my oldest sons (who worked at a car place and knows cars ) the next weekend and he advised me that I'm leaking oil in his driveway and it was a lot he checked the oil and it was very low almost to None in it . This was a Sat I immediately called them and the acted like ok bring it in we will check it out . my Gut was saying they did something my son sd they either forgot to put the cap on . So I took it back and they tried to call my son a liar ok I let that pass . So my low light came on I Took it to Express oil they sd since it's a Luxury car I had to take it to the Dealership ok set up an appointment went in for a light bulb and the guy Justin Harbin sd maam it looks like u gonna need back brakes mind u I have my 12 with me it's his Birthday we out to Celebrate all day (no problems with my brakes at all ) so when I leave nothings wrong until we leave to go to pick up some friends of my sons for his birthday dinner at five All of a sudden my Brakes are scrubbing Bad I called them Heated how dare u play with somebody car this is my way to work etc . Wish I could give a zero. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM SERRA HYUNDAI. My husband owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. All of the maintenance has been done at this dealership. His check engine light came on and he took it to the dealership. They advised him it was the fuel injectors and it would be $600 for the parts and labor. He told them to go ahead with the work. Two weeks later they told him there was a problem with an engine harness and that it would be $6000 or more to fix that. Now the car will not run at all and they are offering no assistance!!!! They are the ones who caused the issue with the car and they should be held responsible. They should cover the cost of the additional repair. An attorney will be contacted if necessary. UPDATED - I was asked to update this so I am going to do so. 1. We had to have the Turbo replaced in this car about 3 years ago. Luckily that was covered under warranty. 2. About a year ago we had to have the motor replaced. We were told the car was no longer under warranty but because it was just out of warranty Hyundai would cover part of the cost of the new motor. We paid $1500. 3. Hyundai is aware of the issue with the motors in the 2015-2016 Velosters (and many other models of their cars) and there is a class action lawsuit regarding this. I am sure their hope is that we will just join the class action and get about $20 because there will be a million people in the class action. If you own a Hyundai please research to see if your car is one of the models with engine problems. And if you are lucky and don't yet own a Hyundai, do yourself a favor and don't buy one!!! read more

This was the easiest & fastest car purchase we've ever had! Other dealers around are still charging over MSRP for the Palisade Calligraphy (Tameron tried to charge $10k over) so I called Serra & Chris promised they wouldn't charge over. I placed the order & was skeptical but true to their word, received the car as ordered, 2 weeks early & at exactly the price promised. Not only that, we were finished with the paperwork in about 10 minutes! Chris wasn't pushy & understood I wanted to do as much as possible via phone. We've always been Lexus people, but their level of service has gone down a bit these days (along with everything else). We felt treated the same as we would at a luxury dealership & would happily buy again. Hoping their service is as good as the sales process. read more

Service department is TRASH! They replaced a tire after I hit a pot hole. Told me at the time that the rim was not warped and I was good to go after replacing. The tire they replaced has bounced since they replaced it. Took it in today for an oil change and asked that they check it. Was told they would. Well they changed my oil but did not check the tire. Upon bringing it up, I was told they wouldn't check that tire until I bought new tires from them. They just replaced the tire in question a month ago. I've come to find out that the paperwork necessary for me to gain tag and title/registration has been rejected at least 2 times this month, and possibly 3 in total since the 7th of January (my initial purchase). The rejections have ranged from not having all of the documentation, to leaving some signing fields blank (!!!) and not including the requisite application fees that were apart of the initial car purchase (we paid for this!). As the dealership oversees the submission of that paperwork (even though I later found out they outsource that job to a nearby Toyota dealership??), I would expect that they'd be able to handle this fairly simply - it's been nearly 2 months since we purchased the car and I found out today that they [again] didn't submit the paperwork correctly - causing it to be rejected. My wife and I have put in HOURS of work and phone calls between our county and the dealership to try and figure out what's been going on. We are also already paying for the car as well, which is a whole other issue. We originally had our own financing, but due to that institution being closed on a weekend day, the dealership said it'd be very complicated and lengthy to use them and instead made a deal with us to use their financing. We took them up on it, which now looks like the worst mistake that we've made in believing that this Finance Team was competent enough to do their due diligence and complete this extremely important LEGAL procedure efficiently. But again - today I found out that another attempt for them to get it right failed. The first time I called them in late January, it was because I had called the county and they told me the paperwork hadn't come. I called 3 separate times and later sent 2 separate emails and emailed the county to see if there was something that we could do in a situation where paperwork isn't present (trying to do my due diligence). I didn't receive a response from the Finance Manager Jamie (the county did reply 48 hours later though). Unfortunately, she has been insultingly poor with communicating or understanding urgency ever since we left her office. We've had to request several temporary tags (we are about to get our FOURTH one), one of which they had a driver sent to deliver to us from Alabama to GA because they didn't act on an email requesting a (at that point, third) temporary tag that I had sent 2 weeks prior. We've sent them guidance on what our county needs, made the calls back and forth, and have spoken to 3 different individuals within the dealership - as well as offered to work directly with the title clerk they've outsourced this huge responsibility to. But we've only been met with botched attempts to fulfill the basic tenants of their jobs, poor to no communication and an absurd display of wasted company funds and customer time. And they have constantly tried to pass the buck to others within their organization, leading me to believe that they lack accountability. They even tried to send us a document today as if to say "You do it" - but we'd have to pay over $2000 with it. That was the the last strand of the last straw for me. You cannot mess up as many times and simply pass the blame to someone else. I WHOLLY RECOMMEND AGAINST USING SERRA HYUNDAI FOR VEHICLE ANY PURCHASES. This dealership did not keep it's contract. My wife chose a vehicle (including VIN #), arranged a trade, put money down (the $ was not refunded) and waited for the vehicle to arrive. Still waiting! A Carfax search indicates that the vehicle they promised us was sold by Serra Hyundai (for much more than our agreed price) and has been serviced twice. They told us it was on a dock somewhere, or lost in shipment..... But all the while, they knew they had sold it. I understand the dilemma, you make a deal and then the market goes up.....but there's that integrity thing....which sadly, this dealership has none. read more

I've called Serra Hyundai 3 times so far but with no answer. I'm trying to schedule an oil change but with no luck so far.

Absolutely a nightmare of a purchase. I purchased a used vehicle from serra and the engine failed first week. I told them I wanted out of the contract, they said no, but do not worry we will take care of this. Well they replaced engine and it was nothing but problems with oil leaks. Even carried it to express oil change and they said there was no oil on dipstick. Brought back to dealership for oil leaks .After that engine going into limp mode the dealership could not find the problem so I sent it to med mazda and they said the engine was faulty and also told me it was a salvage engine. I was told and mislead to believe that the engine was going to be a new one. This is the essence of a untruthful transaction. Own up to what your dealership has done to me and my family. Out $15,000.00 for total engine replacement. The financial burden and stress has been terrible on me and my wife.The worst part of this situation is you people do not see or feel like you've done anything wrong. When I pulled the car from your service department the (junkyard) engine had already failed again. Do you people owe a obligation to tell the customer exactly what your going to do. Everything was going well with my new vehicle purchase up until a received my copy of the Bill of Sale. Upon receipt I notices the selling price was listed as $33,925, not the $33,295 that was agreed upon. I called the dealership with this concern and at their request, provided the documents supporting our sales agreement. After numerous calls a sales manager by the name of Nicholas was contacted. He told me verbatim "What can we do to make this issue go away? I told him I would be agreeable to a 50/50 split on the price difference. After three or four more follow-up calls I realized that they were not going to hold up to this agreement. I was certainly more that fair since this error was their responsibility. Their treatment of me was demeaning. A reputable dealership should have handled this issue immediately. Hindsight now indicates I was wrong with a split and now would suggest they reimburse me the entire $700, they cheated me of. read more
