The vineyard was lovely and the building was cozy and welcoming with plenty of room to sit both inside and out. The gentleman behind the bar was helpful and friendly. We purchased a bottle of the Franc The Tank Blueberry - a sweet and tangy cabernet that had our tastebuds singing. We cracked her open a few nights ago and it was just as good the second time as it was in the glass while we sat and enjoyed our little party.

I came to meet friends with whom we will continue on to a local farm stay for the weekend. We sat outside on one of their covered patios. We packed a lunch to have with a glass of their wine. The tasting room looks like a barn and is very welcoming inside. There are plenty of seats for everyone. The warm weather had me wanting a white wine with my lunch. I chose their pinot gris. It has a crisp taste with notes of citrus. On my first visit I had a flight of all their offerings. My favorites are the Sweet Pea white blend and the Franc the Tank red blend. The old tobacco barn across from the tasting room offers another space to hang out and enjoy the view. There is also an accommodation below that makes for a unique holiday experience.

Our flights: *Elkahol - I remember this one from years ago. It is still very good, great apple flavor, nice and sweet. *The Grateful Red - this was just okay, almost has a chocolate after taste, not for me. *BlackJack BJ - this had nice blackberry flavor, but we have had better blackberry wines, still good. *Slut Dog Sin - really good! Definitely got raspberry, but it was not overpowering. *Summer Daze - this was okay, it was definitely like a watermelon Jolly Rancher. *Spiker Dude - I am not a huge fan of coconut, so this one had way too much coconut for me. I got sunscreen at the beach vibes, definitely not for me. *Peachy Keen - this was very good, definitely peachy. *Bubba Lou's Choice - this was okay, definitely fruity. *Reel Good - I did not like this one. *Tattoo on the beach - this was okay, heavy on the citrus flavors. Favorites of the day were Elkahol, Slut Dog Sin, Peachy Keen, and Blackjack BJ. While Slightly Askew is not up there with my favorite NC wineries, they were still very enjoyable. They were super friendly, and are dog friendly on their patio areas. I would definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Both my wife and I like very dry reds. Most wineries that we have visited have had mostly sweet wines. Slightly Askew has a six wine tasting if just drys; two white and four red. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area. Very dog friendly with a water bowl on the deck and the owner brought out some treats (after asking if that was okay).

Updated: 08/16/2026…read more Guess what? I went back!! This time I took a few more friends and family members with me to enjoy the wine and beautiful scenery of JOLO Winery and Vineyards. Omg, this is one of the most hospitality locations I have visited:) The atmosphere and customer service is so generous.It honestly seems perfect.The wines are great and well explained during each pour during the wine tasting. This was a new selection of wines from my last visit, and they tasted remarkable!Their food is scrumptious. This place will always be one of my first visited locations when it comes to taking friends and family.to introduce them to wine, food and travel.  Our wine guide, Caitlin, was very professional and knowledgeable. She kept everyone's energy. We truly adored her:) Looks like I will be making a trip this coming fall as well! See you all then, cheers:)

There they had many good reviews. So we decided to stop in. Let me say that it was a really cool experience. The fruit wines are creative and quite good. Very good actually. For that they deserve 5 stars. They also deserve 5 stars for the ambiance and hospitality. The proprietors, Jason and Susan are very friendly and interesting conversationalists. They actually have the tasting room in a huge yurt . How cool is that?? The Hillbilly wine theme is quite catchy. Bottom line good wine, fine people and very cool setting. I would recommend this place. It was well worth the short trip from Mount Airy.

This is definitely not Childress or Shelton or Raffaldini. We visit a LOT of wineries in North Carolina and this has some of the best wines we've tasted. Also, it's difficult to find wine at NC wineries that is under $20 or $25. The wines at Hutton are typically $16 to $20 and are a great value. While we were sitting and tasting and talking to Malcolm, two different couples came in who were driving thru to other parts and stopped because they had been here before. When we drove up, we waited about 15 minutes but I'm glad we did!

He showed us into the tasting room and Heidi (his wife and co-owner) started our tasting. The wines were decent. Nothing in particular knocked my socks off, but the Sangiovese seemed to be the one most of our group enjoyed the best. Both Malcolm and Heidi were very nice, and it was interesting to hear a bit of their story while we sampled the wines. I really wish their tasting room was a bit nicer, though. With the walk down the stairs it was almost felt like a country speakeasy. It is kind of dark and cave like in there. Whenever someone new showed up the light from the door opening was almost blinding if you were looking that way. They have a few patio tables and chairs set up outside, but nothing that made me want to get a glass of wine and relax for a bit. Overall, Hutton was worth a stop in for a tasting, but with the amount of wineries in the area they didn't quite make it onto my "must list" for when I'm visiting Yadkin Valley.

Their cocktails were abundant and there was a wide variety for every palate. You can get a cocktail to sip on throughout the tour as well as some popcorn to munch on. Kate was SUPERB at explaining the history of Mayberry Spirits as well as the distilling process at their facility. She also does the ghost tours in Mt Airy and we can't wait to go back and have her show us around downtown! The actual tasting after the tour was the most bang for your buck. We got to taste all all of their whiskeys that they make in house and then we got to play around and mix them with an assortment of bitters and juices. We got to taste an assortment of six for only $12! Lastly their gift shop is the cutest if you need a birthday/Christmas gift. We want to visit again just to bring home one of their cocktail kits. We are so glad we made Mayberry Spirits the first stop during our Mt Airy day to get the party started. A cheap and awesome way to spend the day!

She was extremely knowledgeable, personable, tons of personality and completely informative. I loved how they have a board showing the boiling points of the components in their spirits and they had tons of visuals (the sorghum they use in their whisky, two jars of different proof whisky that demonstrated the difference in appearance when shaken, pieces of the barrel components) it was very interactive, informative and fun! We were there a little early, so we got cocktails (which come with popcorn!) I love that they do have the cocktail option, because many distilleries offer only the spirits stand-alone (I can't hang) and I enjoyed the Dutch Apple Pie I ordered. I appreciated they even went a step further with super nice presentation of the drinks! You can take your cocktails into the distillery room and sip while you enjoy the tour. After the tour, we went back to the main area for a tasting! This was a treat. They have ample areas for the 4 groups doing the tour to taste. Our group of 5 gathered round the barrel to embark on the tasting. It has cute little Mayberry Spirits shot glasses already placed for us, along with a dump bucket & water. First, we tasted the 3 spirits stand-alone. I don't really like straight alcohol, but I enjoyed the vanilla whisky. After those, it's not over! We got to try several cocktail shooters. Some with Cheerwine, some with bitters (they had tons of flavors, everyone got to pick their flavor and add their own!) I really enjoyed the concoctions they presented! They had so many great gifts for purchase as well! They offer cocktail kits that include their spirits and all the necessary mixers! We all agreed we want to come back to get Christmas gifts! I was completely shocked at the value of what we got at Mayberry Spirits! The cocktails were $10 across the board - super reasonable, especially considering the quality/presentation. The tour and tasting was $12 total! I couldn't believe it. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was $20 considering the great 20-30 minute tour we got and the generous tasting, PLUS the souvenir shot glass! This was such a fun experience and a great place to go with a group!
