The owner here is SO incredibly nice, so I had mixed feelings about writing this review, but I feel it's warranted... I had my oil changed (and presumably basic fluid levels checked) by them, and received an "Engine coolant, stop safely" sign a couple weeks later. So I took the car back to the shop to get it looked at. They said all my fluid levels (including coolant) were already full and there was no leak in the coolant hose. I mentioned some shaking, so was talked into a $1300 repair to fix that. As I left the shop, the engine coolant light came on again. I took it to another mechanic in Brea who said, "oh, your coolant is really low", topped it off for free and sent me on my way. I'm disappointed that Chris's team (1) did not check fluid levels during the routine oil change (2) were dishonest about having checked the coolant level, and, most importantly, (3) put my car's engine at risk of overheating. My inclination is that his team did not know where the coolant system was located since the Volvo XC90 has most of it's components neatly concealed under plastic moulds, but that's no excuse for what happened. read more

I took my car to them thinking that I had a starter problem which he ended up "diagnosing" as a battery problem... I went to service auto care yesterday to see if they can fix the latch on the hood of my jeep. I had gone to a jeep dealership in Puente Hills and they wanted over $400 to fix the latch on my hood.Yikes!!! A friend of mine had recommended service auto care and I went over yesterday. I met the owner Chris and he was friendly and very professional. He quoted me a price of $149! Hard to believe but this is true! He ordered the part and it came in this morning. He gave me a call and I brought my Jeep over within five minutes It was installed. He also did a. Oil change for me for $79. Valvoline usually charges me $129. It was so nice to see a auto repair shop not try to rip you off or take advantage of you because you are not as knowledgeable as they are about car parts or fixing a car. Chris and his entire team at Service Auto Care are amazing! I have been using them for a few years now. My husband had referred them to me when my car needed a timing belt replacement a few years back and I've been using them ever since because they charge way less than the dealerships and do great, fast work. Furthermore, as a woman I often feel going to get work done on my car can be loaded with up-selling on unnecessary services because there's an assumption that you don't know any better. That has never happened to me at Service Auto Care! I have never had that condescending vibe at S.A.C. They're straight & to the point on what's needed; no upselling & no sales quotas to meet. Recently my car was on its last leg, due to my own rough treatment and negligence, so I had to have it towed to S.A.C. Pretty much I had destroyed my engine, and after assessing it's needs they were legit with me that the repairs would cost more than the actual value of the car. Chris, the owner, was so amazing in storing my car for a sec while I sorted out my life and got a new mode of transportation in line for myself. On top of that he found a person who could use parts off my old car and was able to get me a little $ for a car that I had figured I would just have to donate. The owner, Chris Dean, does an amazing job remembering who said what about which vehicle. Even though his mechanics seem quite capable, he checks everyone's work. He will also talk you through any repair he does, why it costs what it does, why it needs to be done, and choices he made for doing a repair a certain way. We were under the impression that we needed new brakes on Our Ford Van since we had bought our Van used and it obviously needed maintenance. When one of Chris's mechanics was taking a look at our van he shows us 2 of the brake pads and explains to us that we still have about 25% of brake pad still left and that we really didn't need to replace them at this time. We were a little surprised because we were expecting to have to pay a lot for our brakes. It's a great relief finding a place like this let alone a mechanic's shop that knows what they are doing. I have been a customer here since I moved here 11 years ago. Chris is completely honest and fair with his prices. I initially brought my car to the shop next door for brakes and they tried to rip me off and tell me I needed new rotors. After telling them what they could do with their new rotors, I took my car next door to Chris and asked him to check the brakes. Chris told me the rotors just needed to be turned instead of replaced. A good friend of mine recommended this place, since his whole family has everything done on their cars here. About a year ago I took my then car here because the mechanic I took it to (3x's btw) kept having to re-affix a hose supplying engine coolant, which was ridiculous. I took it to Chris and he permanently fixed the issue, I was so happy. The price wasn't too bad either. Since I had such a great experience, I took my car there a 2nd time, as it was not passing smog. Chris said they needed to order a part and he would work on finding out what the issue was (for a day or so). Come to find out the last time it was smogged, the prior mechanic did something illegal to get it to pass. So after all of this he said in order to fix it would be a waste of money and suggested I get rid of it (which I did!). Chris did not charge me a penny, not even for labor or the ordered part!! I really love how honest they all are and they do such great work! They are always careful and do not make a mess when working on your car too. 06/04/2015 Still a great place of business! - provides a shuttle service if you want to get dropped off/picked up somewhere nearby to run errands or go grab a bits to eat. (I prefer to walk to the Walmart nearby and walk around). - I went to autozone to get my battery tested and they said I needed a new battery (car didn't start one morning)- it was last purchased at Service Auto Care on 2/2013 (under warranty). Had battery tested again by Chris and saw it was good but the battery connectors were loose (didn't realize it was THAT loose). He fixed he connectors today at no cost to me! I insisted to pay but he said it was on the house because it was simple and the parts were cheap for the connector. Quick too! Highly recommended still after all these years! read more

I have to say Chris is a great guy and explains things very well. The reason why I am giving 2 stars is because I took my car in here and he took about a week to run a diagnostic on it. It turned out that at the end of the diagnostic (which was about $160) he concluded that the mechanic that had done a job on my car before probably did a poor job on the head gasket job and he would have to open the engine up to look at it further... I took it to another mechanic and it turned out the computer was bad (only took them 2 days to find that out). Chris may be a great guy but the mechanics working for him make me question how much knowledge they actually have if they do not know how to diagnose a faulty computer. Got the computer changed and my car works great now. DID NOT have to open the engine up at all... read more

Yesterday, I took my new used car to Service Auto Care to get a smog check, new wipers, and ask some questions regarding how to operate a few things I was unsure about. It's a 1998 Lexus 300 with 19,000 miles on it. An AWESOME car! Since the manual wasn't in the car, I couldn't figure out why the cigarette lighter wasn't working to use as a charger. Chris not only found that the lighter was not the charger but also showed me where it was within the middle of glove box between the seats. It also didn't work so he has agreed to wire me a new one that will be able to accommodate more than one device! Every time I go to Service Auto Care, the staff goes over the top in making sure my car is in good shape and explaining everything to me. There have been times that they didn't even charge me for the extras and I truly appreciate their honesty and great service! If you don't have a place to take your car that you trust, I truly encourage you to consider taking your car to Service Auto Care for all repairs. You will NOT be disappointed! I have been using Service Auto Care for at least 5 years and appreciate the "Ma and Pa" vibe of the shop. We have 4 cars ranging from 13-17 years old and Chris, along with his mechanics have worked on all of them and we never have had any complaints. Ironically, 2 of my adult sons are mechanics; one a service manager for Honda and both sons know that the work performed on our cars/trucks at Service Auto Care is done properly. We don't use our sons as our mechanics because for one, they do this for a living and two, they are busy with their own families - so my husband and I prefer to not trouble them with our cars when we need work done. It provides me great comfort knowing that we can fully trust Service Auto Care. Additionally, I appreciate how Chris, the owner, interacts with his employees and customers. He is a relational guy who treats everyone with great respect and genuine concern. I was surprised by Richard H's, unkind review and complaints against Chris personally, with that being said, when I saw Richard had 8 reviews and 6 of them were lengthy attacks on the business owners, it was clear to me that the problem wasn't with Chris or Service Auto Care, it was more about Richard H. exerting his "right" to complain. The fact that Service Auto Care doesn't have any complaints with the Bureau of Automotive Repair does not surprise me in the least, they are amazing and we feel grateful to have a place to take our cars that we can trust. Chris, remember there is always "one bad apple in the bunch"and you can't please everyone in this world, but know as a faithful, loyal customer, we are happy and I have no doubt that you have a ton more who appreciate what you do for them. read more

Have you been taking your car to Sevice Auto Care for years but have noticed that Chris the owner is getting more and more careless. I have been going to him for years and I was reluctant to do this but I feel that Chris has become careless, defensive and unable to see that his shop is not being proactive and is allowing cars to leave his shop in an unsafe state. Does he fix your car and then within days you're towing it in and dropping off the keys again? If so, your car is not the problem the problem is that Chris is not evaluating the car fully. He is good at talking, but his careless attitude towards the safety, and wasted repetitive visits is ridiculous. It got so bad that I had the Bureau of Automotive Repairs speak to him because I am afraid he is placing car owners at risk due to his style of managing the evaluation of cars. Since I was the only one to formally lodge a complaint they will not send out an undercover car to test my experience at Service Auto Care. Apparently he told the representative that he has no intention of changing his methods of business or how he evaluates cars. I think this is total arrogance on his part. He has found a system that works for his bottom-line but I feel is completely inadequate for the safety of the consumer. I like Chris personally and I have known him for years but he has become hardened and defensive I think he is running his business in a way that is unsafe for car owners. In affect, this is an intervention to get him to stop the behavior. If you know Chris and have had similar experiences let it be known so he has a chance to realize that he needs to get back to basics before somebody gets seriously injured in a car that he allowed to leave his shop without proper evaluation. He told me in the past that he fixes what he finds to be the the most pressing issue but doesn't list things that are about to fail because consumers don't like to see an expensive list and that they will go somewhere else. I told him many times that this is not safe practice for the consumer and that I wanted him to disclose and be proactive on my vehicles. If you have had your car repeatedly in the shop because Chris doesn't perform a thorough check of issues that are apparent to any competent safely minded mechanic then please contact the Bureau of Automotive Repairs at: https://www.bar.ca.gov/Consumer/Complaints/index.html I have also set-up a email account if you want to stay private with your concerns.
