AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Some back story, I was in Las Vegas and was about to head home to Orange County on a Monday morning when my car wouldn't start. Made the usual clicking noise but wouldn't crank, which led me to believe it's the battery. However, I had purchased a battery from AAA not too long ago, it would still be under warranty. I got a jump on my car, drove back to OC to let the battery charge over the four hour drive, and then I would deal with it when I got home. Called AAA, they said they couldn't get a mobile technician out to my house, but referred us to three local mechanics who would do the swap for us. Chose the closest one, which was Jax, and little did I know, I was in for major headaches. I showed them all the proper paperwork, including my AAA invoice which stated a 36 month limited warranty, and the manager in the office said they needed to run a few tests to make sure the battery wasn't bad. Before even popping the hood, the manager already was saying "there's no way the battery was bad, it was only two years old". He then proceeded to tell me that there might be something wrong with the alternator or the "charging unit"? Already immediate red flags, he hadn't even popped the hood yet at this point. They proceeded to charge the battery for an hour, to which obviously it started up after that point. He would then make claims that the alternator was bad and we would need to get it replaced, and quoted us for a ridiculous amount. I told him there was no way it's the alternator, because we wouldn't have been able to drive 4 hours from Las Vegas on just the car battery alone. I told him no thanks, and tried the other two shops referred by AAA. The battery was inspected by BOTH of the other AAA referred mechanics, to which they both told me the same thing, the battery was defective. It was swapped out under warranty and I was in and out of the other HONEST mechanic's shop in less than thirty minutes. Please go ANYWHERE else. This place tries to pull the wool over your eyes rather than just do honest work. read more

I beg you, DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM HERE. I got into a car accident in late 2022 and was car hunting due to my new job requiring a car to commute to work every day. My parents and I were looking around the area for cars that were used but certified to save some money. After a week of searching, there were no offers that were particularly interesting so my mom informed me that Jax Auto had a car that was getting sold. We went there and the owner was super garrulous and did not let us ask too many questions at all. But, we dismissed it as we thought that that was his personality. So we went and discussed with him about the car that was being sold and it's a nice car (for anonymity reasons, I am going to keep the car they sold a secret) but right off the bat, he said that there was something wrong with the motor in the seat and to wait for it to come in before we buy. We came back a few days after that and we also made sure to thoroughly inspect the car but alas, my mother and I are not mechanics so there was no way that we would have been able to spot all of the problems that the car had at the time. There ended up being so many things wrong with the car on the internals (no center console top storage due to it being held together with string, the sunroof never opened or was able to be opened because of the motor, actuators in the car acting weird and not locking or unlocking sometimes, and finally the radio didn't even work). After buying the car, I drove it home with no issues, but I did notice that the car was louder than it should've been. I dismissed this as the owner told us that there was an engine replacement on the car before they sold it to us so maybe the car was taking some time to get used to the new engine that just got installed. Around 2,000 miles after driving the car, the check engine light came on. I'm freaking out because the check engine light usually means something is wrong with the engine, exhaust, or catalytic converter. I go to them the next day and they say "Oh yeah we can just reset the check engine light, sometimes it does that." And I was like aight bet no worries. The check engine light proceeds to come on once every 2 months only to be "reset" with them barely checking to see what was wrong with the car. Fast forward to August of 2023 and I noticed some purple liquid spewing out of my car when I parked and went inside. I had to drive to Inglewood in the morning so I made sure to check to see if there was an actual issue with my car by going to Jax that day, but they were too busy to even have me park my car so I left haphazardly. If they truly had checked the hood every single time I had a check engine light, then they could've told me way in advance that my coolant was leaking (and it still leaks or is consumed way more frequently than normal. It's almost March in 2024 and I filled up more coolant 6 months later). It was because of their neglectful nature that they just were unable to properly diagnose the issue with the car and couldn't even see me that day. The day after, my car started smoking because it was low on coolant (again I had no idea because I didn't even know what the purple liquid was spewing out of my car and I had become "jaded" to the check engine light because they always told me it was fine so I just assumed that the car was fine). I drove to the mechanic nearest to my current location and they told me that a gasket had possibly blown and that I needed a new belt, alternator, battery, and radiator. I agreed and the cost was going to be about 1500 with all new parts. I called Jax Auto to tell them what happened and the owner told me to bring the car to him because he didn't "trust" any other mechanic and that he could get me a "deal" on the parts that needed to be replaced. I gingerly agreed and they worked on the car. 2 days later it was fixed and I went to go pay for it. The total ended up being over 1300. So some "deal" he cut me on the parts. He even had to call me again and say "Hey we need to replace this part sorry we just saw that it was broken." After repairs, the car worked flawlessly before the check engine light came on AGAIN 2 weeks after the repairs. I went to them and they said "Yeah we'll just reset it." I said, "Can you please actually look at the car this time". And they said "sure". They saw "nothing wrong" with the car and reset my check engine light for the 70th time. The check engine light came on again the following day. At this point, I was fed up with Jax Auto and with the car in general. I rushed over to a more renowned mechanic that I knew would not f**k up my car and they said that my catalytic converter was broken and needed to be repaired. Another 850 dollars later and the car is working just fine. Not even 2 months later my check engine came on for the nth time (I lost track at this point) and there was something wrong with my EVAP system and my condenser needs to be replaced. As a AAA member we receive promotions. Recently, I received a promotion via email about a free AAA summer vehicle check-up at participating automotive. I selected this place. The receptionist was unable to assist me and said I had to speak with someone else. I was transferred to a male caller. He never introduced himself. I proceeded to tell him why I was calling. He immediately asked me how long I had been a member of AAA. I wasn't sure why that mattered but I told him, 15 years. By this time the conversation wasn't going well. I could tell he was upset with my response! He questioned my membership and said that this was an on-going promotion and that I should have known!! By this time, I knew this was not a place I would EVER DO BUSINESS WITH! Poor customer service and a very uneducated response. So I bring it here (Having a 2007 mustang, there's a lot that goes wrong lol) They're honest even when their honesty loses them money because they have something called integrity. They do it right and take pride in what they do. I noticed they fixed a few other little things and didn't put it on the bill. Terrible people!!!!! They absolutely take advantage of nice people. I'm not sure why AAA is still recommending them... even the aaa tow truck driver was saying how dishonest these guys were and over price everything. Labor was ridiculous. Jax was telling me that I needed a new belt and rotors. He told me it was cost $800!!!!! Was he crazy???? My car is about 15 years old. It's a great running car still but $800 for parts and labor you're nuts. I ended up towing it to a place much closer to where i live in Buena Park and they are AMAZING such a huge difference. One of the hardest things to find is a good mechanic that not only gets the job done but makes you feel good about the money you just dropped into your vehicle. Jack T. at JAX Auto in Brea was able to diagnose my car's electronic issue easily and quickly. (See my previous review of steve's towing in Lake Elsinore). It was an alternator belt that had been comprised. Jack had the part rush ordered from San Fransisco and done the next morning. Jack has assured me that the warranty on the part installed will be valid nationwide through a national warranty service he's affiliated with. I have no experience with this but will assume innocent until proven guilty. Overall I feel good about the work done and best of all my car is running again and feeling awesome! Gotta get back out on this road! Oh by the way, on my way out Jack came out from his office noticing my tail brake light out and had his worker Mario fix it complimentary! Nice touch :). So I'm not going to give them 1 star because I didn't have the car fixed here but let me explain. My mom's car broke down after work yesterday and she used a friend's AAA membership to have it towed to the nearest repair shop. I called the shop this morning and explained that it's likely the starter issue. The owner says that they have a $180 diagnostics fee and if they can pinpoint the issue they will give a discount for the actual job. But hold on, I work for a car company and get why they charge a diagnostics fee and even then it's around $150 at the dealership. They need to spent time finding the issue, etc etc. I get it. But if it's as simple as a starter why charge a fee? He also mentioned that the inspection was going to take 1-2 hours and they close at noon on Saturdays. What?! I called Brea Towing and paid $175 to have it towed to a repair shop I used to go to and trusted. No diagnostics fee and immediately told me it was the starter as suspected. Most people don't go to dealerships because frankly it's not affordable. Based on other reviews they overcharge their customers already. They can be friendly and do a great job but it's a big no no in my books if they take advantage of people. read more

I came here with my dad and first thing off the bat, none of the workers were wearing a mask. when first asked what time jax would be in, we were ignored. The man, not sure who he was that was helping us was rude and claimed it was "too early for this" when he was agitated with our responses and that we could leave the car or wait. We came in from out of state and realized quickly that we needed some work done on the car, specifically an alignment. Jax got us in right away. We were in and out of the shop in an hour and a half, exactly what had been quoted time wise, with the alignment done and a courtesy tire rotation completed as well. They have a classic car mechanic that absolutely knows VW Beetles and had my Bug up and running in no time. Jack is a terribly dishonest individual. This company takes advantage of nice individuals who are dealing with hard times and tries to act like they are helping. Jack sold me a 98' Chevy Malibu with Low mikes saying it had nothing wrong and he wouldn't lie because he's been in business for 30 years. First off the driver side window wouldn't roll down, second off the AC would only blow cold on the highest setting and third the rear defrosters weren't even glued to the windshield. These are all recalls ok the vehicle that any good honest mechanic would have known about and mentioned up front. Literally within 30 days of purchase the car engine blew up and needed to be replaced. Jack said it was sold as is and explained he felt bad that the car he sold me literally blew up and needed a new engine within only 30 short days of regular use. He pulled the "out of the goodness of my heart" bs and said he would replace the engine for zero labor so long as I purchased the engine. I unfortunately had to use his eBay account to buy the engine because sales directly to auto body shops get an additional 4 year warranty. After the new engine was installed Jack only gave me the receipt for his stores labor invoice and kept the EBAY receipt for the purchase of the engine. Fast forward 1 year later and my car was totaled out in an accident. I am trying to get the receipt for the purchase of the engine from Jack to submit to my insurance company and Jack is refusing to help. He is claiming "the sale is no where to be found in his eBay and it was my responsibility to keep the receipt" except he never gave me the receipt to begin with. Unfortunately since Jack is not willing to assist me in obtaining the receipt that he failed to provide to me in the first place I now have to report him to the better business bureau. Bottom line for this company you want to read all the reviews carefully and seriously consider the few bad reviews because they are most likely true. Jack and his mechanics may be knowledgeable and come off as good hearted individuals but they are lazy, dishonest and just out to make a quick buck at the expense of the elderly and nice people going through tough times. A/C blower stopped running in my Chrysler Town & Country van. An inspection revealed coolant dye on the CAF (Cabin Air Filter), so the evaporator was leaking. They explained they would have to drop the entire dashboard and all dash components. I wanted the car back in service, so they did it and got every single part back in place. A/C is back in service now and blowing cold air as good as new. Most of the charges were in labor to R&R the dash, so I knew what I was in for cost wise. If I ever need a whole engine replaced, this is where I will take it. read more

Girls and auto shops are the perfect recipe for getting ripped off. Completely overpriced for a cartridge oil change on my Chevrolet cobalt. They wanted to charge me $65 dollars for JUST the oil change. $35 in parts and $28 Labor. Yes a cartridge oil change is slightly different than the regular but still after calling a few places nearby, nowhere charged as much as them, even calling the price "outrageous". The guy stated it was also because they use "valvoline oil" and that all the other auto shops on brea blvd use the "cheapest stuff". After getting home I called valvoline oil change in Fullerton and they do the works on a CARTRIDGE oil filter WITH VALVOLINE OIL for $39.99. To be fair they did adjust the price after I told them I was displeased with the extreme price difference and were nice about it. Either way I'll prob be saving some money going elsewhere from now on. read more

I was taken to Jax Auto because it was recommended as the closest repair shop by AAA. My fuel pump had died in my 2009 Saturn Aura. They were clear and courteous, but their prices were a bit on the high side, even with my AAA discount. My fuel pump was located in my fuel tank, which made sense why they charged more, but if they hadn't given me the AAA "discount" they would have been over the average for my type of repair. They also finished my car on the early side of the estimated amount of time. What they told me was reliable. The reason why I appreciated them was because Calvin, who rung me up, explained to me why my fuel pump died and how to prevent it from happening in the future. I appreciated that most of all. If they had cheaper prices, I would bring my car here all the time. However, I'm on a budget and probably couldn't afford them all the time. read more
