Furnace shopping with Costco and Comfort Masters Service Experts was a breeze. Stopped at the Costco furnace kiosk where Ron set up an appointment for me. 2 days later, Ross Wolf came to the house and explained all the furnace options and discounts available, helping me choose the best option for my home. Installation day came and the installers were right on time. They were very aware of keeping the premises clean, wore booties and laid down runners to protect the flooring. John Rybicki and Jim Horvath are a great team, good humored, very knowledgeable and exceptional problem solvers...along with being dog friendly. They explained all the features of the furnace, humidifier and thermostat, and provided follow up dates for maintenance and servicing. I swear they left the furnace room cleaner than before. I plan on using Comfort Masters for future furnace servicing. Quick tip, I do recommend verifying your installation date if taking time off from work is an issue. There was a communication blip, but definitely not a deal breaker. read more

I've had a preventive maintenance contract with Comfort Masters for 7 years, with two annual visits for HVAC and heating. I've never had the same technician twice, but they have all been excellent -- knowledgeable, courteous, and conscientious about explaining things. They are also very neat -- wear protective booties over their shoes, clean up after their work is completed. Two years ago, when there had been alot of snow and the temps were way down, my furnace wouldn't kick on. Comfort Masters came at 10:30 p.m. (after giving me hourly updates because there were so many "furnace out" calls that night) and the tech still had two more calls to make after me! Still, he was very courteous, made sure he checked everything out, and gave me a temporary fix to tide us over until a permanent fix could be made. Of course Comfort Masters is a large company with regional offices, but the technicians who come out of their Wheeling, Illinois office are great! read more

We had them out to troubleshoot our air conditioning unit that was leaking. We paid one service fee, after the technician explained what was going on with it. We decided to wait before moving forward, which he respected. The following day, another Golden Seal technician, Cesar, came back out, cleaned the outside unit and put in 2 lbs of freon free of charge. Wow!! Customer for life. :)) read more

Deceptive business practices all around. They will sell you a 10-year warranty with a 'maintenance plan' with no expiration date on the maintenance. There is no language on the paperwork that says I'm required to buy maintenance. Then when something breaks, all of a sudden my warranty is invalid. read more

We were in a very desperate situation and we needed to find an air conditioning company that could come out ASAP and diagnose our issue. The whole process was incredibly smooth and easy and quick. I have been using Golden Seal for many years, and I have always been beyond thrilled with the quality of people they send out for my regular maintenance. This week Kamil came out, and he was fabulous. After looking at my a/c unit he explained why it might be time to consider a new one. The next morning Jeff came to my house and explained my options to me. At no point was he pushing more expensive units on me. He was easy to talk to and extremely informative. He knew what he was talking about and wanted to make sure I was choosing the best products for my particular home. I decided to replace my 22 year old furnace and a/c with new ones. In less than 24 hours Daniel and Josh came out to install my new units and a new thermostat. Again, they exceeded my expectations. I would give a 0 star if I can. I got very surprised by all the high reviews here. I installed my HVAC by them back to Feb 2017. Recently I used the AC for summer time. And I noticed water came out of the unit in the basement. BTW, the AC is my old AC and never gives a problem in the past. I called them to schedule a service. The technician (Nick) should come out on Sunday which he didn't and he never called me to reschedule. I waited a whole day at home for him. What a frustrating day. I called back on Monday morning and Dave told me that my home will be the first one to be serviced before 10 am. My wife got back from work and waited till 9:45am. Nobody show up and not call. I called back and Dave told me "probably my home will be serviced next after their current ticket". read more

We have been a Golden Seal customer for 10+ years now, using them mostly for their tune-up services that are performed twice a year. We normally request for Bob to come out and perform work on our furnace and air conditioning units. Bob is very timely with our appointment times and very courteous and respectful. We appreciate Bob's views and recommendations on how we can better or improve the efficiency of our units. Bob doesn't cut corners. We also used Golden Seal to replace out air conditioning unit in the summer of 2014. Purchased a middle tier 5-ton unit and have noticed a significant difference in the efficiency and cost of running the air conditioning in the summer. read more

AC system was frozen inside and outside. Was told by GS that everything need to be replaced. After two other opinions i found out that all i need was a shot of freon (refrigerant). watch out for tech reps that tell you the repair could be $600-$2000 so you best get a new one. experts! i had another company charge me $241.50 with the service call and my AC is running perfectly for 72 hours and thankfully im no longer making ice. one bad apple spoils the whole bunch. these guys are laughable. read more

The scheduling went fine, but then I had to reschedule, and they couldn't find me in their system, so I spent 25 minutes on the phone with them arguing I am not Donald, as they only have a record of Donald at my address. Finally I reschedule for an 8-10 window the next day, and no one shows up. When I call, the same lengthy conversation transpires: I AM NOT DONALD! I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU THINK DONALD LIVES AT MY ADDRESS. After about 30 minutes, they tell me the technician is backed up and won't be out to my place until after 12. When I ask why, given that I had an 8-10 window, the receptionist sniped, "I have no idea. It's not like I scheduled it." read more

Save yourself time and money by skipping these guys. My AC broke down and I made the mistake of calling this company. The service tech came out and took a minute to say 'yes, it's broken, not worth fixing' ($99 service call, but whatever). He immediately got on the phone with the office and they set up an appt for a sales call to give me quote on 2 new AC units and 2 furnaces. I wait 4 days for the appt then...they are a no show. No show, no call. So, I called their place asking where the hell they are. Guess what? They have 'no record' of my appointment but would be more than happy to set one up then and there. No thanks. Only now did I check Yelp and found out that this level of service is par for the course for this company. Save your money and a whole lot of aggravation, and find a legit company to do your work. I had a new furnace put in after a flood. Many mistakes were made. Parts were missing and my humidifier was not connected correctly. When a service call was made for something leeking, the service man would was rude and did not come until the next day. I will never use this company again. read more

I am not sure what is the problem with HVAC companies. It seems like an understanding of customer service escapes them. Is it the fact that they are trash, idiots, or simply morons? Do NOT expect any good customer service from Comfort Masters Service Experts. I had a 8am to 10am appointment scheduled with them. Received a call from rep at 9:21am asking if I would still want them to come. He mentioned that he might have time later. I wonder, I went on the internet and followed your schedule online instructions all for fun. Right.... If there was a scheduling conflict why not call before the appointment and not toward the end? Makes me think that the rep didn't want to get up early. I used an electronic scheduling system why not use the email address I provided? Why offer an online scheduling system if your office cannot handle electronic communication? Like others in the industry do you say, "I don't work that way." Is it to hard for you to learn? So sad! Terrible- 3 times techs came out and one was a supervisor who did nothing at all but made certain to charge the $84 fee. I even purchased a crap plan that did nothing at all. My HVAC system was only not blowing cool or very little- simple air flow problem. For this simple concern, no one EVER checked a thing. They looked inside and never ran ANY tests AT ALL. I was told by their SR and 'best tech" it is best to just replace the entire thing (Furnace & Air) in his professional opinion- NOT! Totally incorrect and completely ill advised. Another firm came out and I explained everything that was told to me by the incompetent Golden Seal techs and this supervisor and they looked totally perplexed. They took me to my condenser and actually opened it up and tested it. Looked inside at the coil and CLEANED IT to unblock air flow AND replaced the simple part that went bad AND added coolant at a fraction of the cost. They explained everything and showed me all before and after..my house is cool and comfortable. It was a simple air flow issue and NOTHING needed to be replaced. This company is full of IT and I will never recommend them for anything ever. If anyone one else is interested in an actual reputable firm, honest and actually does their jobs and not charge to stand in your living room and LIE please call- L.I.F.E Heating and A/C is amazing. They travel all over for clients. And they only charge for the work done. Not to stand around and hunch their shoulders at you but expect payment. Terrible service, terrible firm and they do not follow instructions as I advised more than a week in advance that I would be on vacation when another tech wanted to come out for a "tune up" and he still came out so their service reps on the phone don't do their jobs either. I had these guys come out during the summer of '13 when my tenant's a/c went out during one of the hottest days in August. They showed up on time and the tech was very nice and knowledgeable. Determined the issue was the capacitor, replaced it, and the unit worked. However there was massive sticker shock when I got the bill. They charged me $174 for the capacitor. I work in engineering and knew the price was way out of line but had to get the a/c working again as it was 90+ degrees and was going to be for the foreseeable future at the time. I checked on line and the same capacitor was available for $22. Now I expect a little extra markup from a repair company but not 690%. I call and asked for the manager who wasn't available. He did call me back a few days later which I missed. Since then I have called him back numerous times with no answered or returned calls. Moral of the story: they are nice guys but extremely unethical price gouging people who need immediate service. If you use them watch your wallet. read more

Has them come to fix my furnace 3 times and finally called the competition. they over charged me on a blower motor by 3X. Them wanted to sell me anew furnance for 10,000. Lost my business. I used Golden Seal for years in multiple homes but it's pretty clear their business is going in a direction that is no longer of interest to me. Had my furnace serviced earlier this month, and it was time to be replaced. Fine. but they would not stop trying to shove their lease program down my throat. The "Advantage" program. In one day, 3 people tried to give me the hard sell on this program where I would pay them $105 for a furnace for the rest of my life and own nothing. Sounds pretty bad. They said it's just like paying your electric or gas service. Really it's not. It's more like renting your refrigerator. I let them know "It's not for me," multiple times, but they would not let it go. Then I overheard the tech telling someone on the phone that I was not interested in the program. "It would have been smart, but she doesn't want it." Super offensive. In any case, I went with another company for my replacement that took good care of me and was more than 1k less for the exact same equipment plus took a lot more time trying to make my system the best it could be. Maybe something changed at Golden Seal, but it is no longer for me. read more

Comfort Masters in Wheeling - I highly recommend using Jose from Comfort Masters in Wheeling for all your heating and air conditioning needs. I live in a building that was built in 2001. The previous owner of my condo used Comfort Masters for 10 years to service both the furnace and air conditioner. Comfort Masters came highly recommended so I continued the tradition of using them. When I came home on Wednesday (12/14/16 - outdoor temp was at 2 degrees), my apartment registered 49 degrees on the thermostat. I called Comfort Masters the same nite. I talked with the receptionist who wanted to schedule me in for January 16. She didn't quite understand that an indoor temperature of 49 degrees is urgent. Since I couldn't get her to understand my needs, I decided to try calling in the next day. I had better luck the next day. The receptionist couldn't schedule me in for Saturday but she was wise enough to get her boss on the phone with me. The boss was able to understand my problem and schedule me in for Saturday afternoon. I really appreciated the accommodation. The tech, Jose, who came to fix my furnace was very prompt, very capable and very curteous. To make a long story short, my furnace needed a new blower. Jose told me if he was to go get the new blower, it would be an emergency visit to the parts store to get the module I needed and I would be charged an additional $300. Instead, Jose talked to his boss who instructed him on how to bypass the module so I could get heat until Monday when he can get the parts for me without being charged the $300. I was extremely greatful for his thoughtfullness. Jose's boss was able to instruct him on how to bypass the module so that I could get heat. Jose recommended on Monday, I schedule a repair visit on as soon as possible. I am happy to say my furnace worked and it is now a hot 70 degrees inside. I would recommend using Comfort Masters and asking for Jose. He's punctual, knowledgeable, and very thoughtful. I considered Comfort Masters as a very honest and reputable company. There's so many contractors out there that will take advantage of a situation like mine and end up charging for a new furnace. Horrendous service department. They were good for many years and lately I can't even believe how far they have dropped. Had appt scheduled...they called and let me know they were behind. I get it, things happen and I appreciated they called to let me know. Then, they call and say it will be even later. I can't wait so they reschedule for the next evening at 6pm sharp. I get an email confirmation. I leave work early to get home. No show, no calls. I speak to the Manager who provides no apology and absolutely no explanation. He just schedules me a new time. Fire your Manager. He is horrible. And guess what, overnight my furnace goes out. I call to see if they can can come early since I have no heat. They say they will call the technician to come out early. Hmm 2 hours later I call them back and the woman says no one wrote down that I called earlier stating my furnace was now out. I am done with this company. Interesting note...they are also trying to sell me a new furnace and ac unit. The day finally came when we needed to replace both our furnace and AC. I was very pleased to see Russ Downs show up as our sales consultant! Russ has previously been to our home as a technician servicing and taking care of our units. Russ is very professional, polite, honest and knowledgeable. I TRUST Russ. Russ helped us pick out the right system for our home and made sure that we understood all of the options available, the technology, and exactly how everything works together. In the end Russ made absolutely sure that we were very happy and completely satisfied with our choice. I was also very impressed that Russ went the extra mile to contact both Lennox and NEST to find a way that I can still use my NEST system in my house along with the new iComfort thermostat. The installation went great! Rob, Juan and Jim were our installers and I couldn't be happier with the work they performed. They were all very personable and polite and I feel that they took great care and caution in our home. When they left everything was very neat and clean. Both the new furnace and AC look fantastic! I also want to give a special thanks to Rob for coming up with a way to run the PVC outside without having to cut into an adjoining room. Overall I am very impressed with the team that came over and made this all happen. When I bought my home, the furnace and A/C were only one year old. Golden Seal installed the unit, and also had the service contract for regular maintenance. I have been extremely happy with their technicians for the last 2 years. They are always professional/quick/and extremely knowledgeable of the equipment. Today, my A/C was leaking water. I called and, as always, they were able to service my home today. My technician, Russ, (#78) was quick to access the problem. He knew what the problem was within 5 minutes, and prepared my A/C unit for the follow up repair. The unit was wet and could not be serviced today. Understandable, for many reasons. Tomorrow, their on-call rep will complete the repair and get me back to working order. I am very pleased at the service level and commitment from this company. I have owned many homes and have had many repairs done over the years. Golden Seal is by far the BEST company to deal with.
