We paid $69 for a "service expert" to look at our furnace. This was before we closed on the house because we wanted to know how much it would cost to repair. We knew it needed something. The "expert" ended up giving us a tune up and recommending a few things, but he said it is working well and there were no issues. Well, my father in law put in a new thermostat because we were still having issues and we thought it was the thermostat. Still a no go. My father in law bypassed the thermostat and tried to get the furnace to run on. Still, it tries but won't turn on. He also said the wiring to the furnace is backwards (the w and r wires). While talking to a lady on the phone, she listed off everything they do in the tune up and checking the connection is on there. So obviously, not everything on the check list was completed. The lady on the phone said they could send out another person to look at it, but we'd have to pay again for the service AND to send the technician out. If they didn't do it right the first time, how can I trust them to do it right the next? I'm not paying $70 more for another person to come out and say "it looks ok so I gave you a tune up." Oh, might I add that we originally had the tech come out when I was 7 months pregnant and we wanted it all done correctly and in good time. I am now 8.5 months pregnant and we have no heat to our house. We are moving in tomorrow. Went from 1 star to 3 Update: had a manager come by and see the furnace to make sure it's all good now that we've done repairs with another company. He spent time with us to make sure the furnace is working well. He also assured us that a refund is in the mail. He apologized for what happened with the office staff. My AC was freezing up so I call the "Service Experts"...They arrived on-time and said my Coil needed cleaning (typical AC problem)... Then gave me an estimate of $500 to clean them??? I told Dennis K. this was a typical AC problem and $500 was overcharging me but he held firm to his $500 coil cleaning charge. I asked him to contact a supervisor and let them know I have other Reputable AC companies that will only charge between $200-$250 to clean coils. He said he called and his supervisor said "that was the price". In my opinion this company is trying to take advantage of it's customers during the HOT months of the summer! *BEWARE* SO CALLED SERVICE EXPERTS then charged me $49.95 for basically NOTHING but coming into my home and trying to rip-me-off... I then sent in a Customer Satisfaction Survey requesting my money back and they have yet to respond (probably never will!) If you are in SLC and in need of a good AC company....DO NOT CONTACT THIS ONE!!! UP-DATE... Called another company who showed up 2 hours later, Cleaned my Coils and my outdoor condensers for $235.... I've used Service Experts before to Take care care of my furnace and air conditioner and the service had been fairly consistent. I have to say that when you are near the end of your furnace or air conditioner's life call someone else. Quote for new furnace and air conditioner was absolutely insane!!! Nearly 3 times more than 3 other companies we called for quotes. And I was charged a service fee to be told that I should get a new system. The next day I had another company out and they repaired my system at 8:00pm for a very reasonable amount of $. Very disappointing. read more

DO NOT USE!!!! Read all of the reviews where people are bait and switched. -They dont honor their coupon terms and conditions (unless you catch them and argue them in to the ground) -They will clean your furnace, before you authorize, charge you a ton for it after the fact -They will sell you items you DO NOT NEED for more than they are worth -They will shame you and be aggressive when you disagree with what is happening Not only did they "clean" the to death before they diagnosed the problem but they didn't get the cleaning charge approved. They just did it (mind you my husband was right next to the tech). Thought he was trying to diagnose, he wasn't, he was cleaning then told us we had to pay. Then he didn't know what was wrong but insisted it needed a new filter. My husband didn't realize it was a wash and reuse (the property in question is mine and I was out of the country) so the tech charged $18. for a $3. filter and threw the reusable one away with all of the parts from the furnace. I called the company, the owner was nice, said he would call back, didn't. Instead had another tech call me back who was defensive and angry. Said he would try to find the reusable. Said they had to make money some how. Seriously, there are LOTS of good HVAC folks out there...I have used many contractors, these guys are seriously dishonest and ended up costing me a lot for practically nothing. I need to go purchase a reusable filter again-anywhere from $50-100 thanks to these guys. read more

Thompson and Sons/Service Experts has serviced my A/C and Plumbing needs for probably 10 years. Only once in that 10 years was there an issue and it was resolved promptly. Yes they have a checklist of recommendations they go thru, you can always say no but at least you are made aware of options. And if you have an issue/failure after you say no, the oops is on you!! Daren (plumbing) has been very helpful and has taken care of our minor plumbing needs in a very professional manner. To this point I do not believe their costs are out of line. read more

Our AC was having some issues and we called Service Experts to come out and diagnose the issue. I wasn't present for the first visit, but my wife was told the problem was with our returns and vents needed to be cleaned out. The man quoted a price of $400 to my wife. That seemed a bit steep so I said we would consider what to do next. We shopped around and found another company that did it for a little more than half that. After that the problem with the AC was still present. We called them again and told them the problem was still there. The person that talked to my wife was pretty rude about the whole thing and claimed that some companies don't do a "good job cleaning out the vents". This felt like they were just upset we didn't go through them for the vent cleaning. My wife said that we didn't care what they thought and wanted them to take another look. They also said they would waive the service call charge (which was good considering the first one didn't do anything at all). When the second technician came out I explained to him what had happened so far and he started looking around. He determined that the freon was low and said he would top it back up, but he said if there was a leak he couldn't find it because he didn't have the tools to do so with him (which baffled me, who shows up to diagnose a problem without the tools to do so?). I told him to top it off and he did. He said another visit would happen next week to find the leak and fix it, but the topped off freon should help until then. He left in a hurry so we didn't get to test the AC while he was there. Not only did it not work still, it was now just blowing warm air. Also now we had a strange noise coming from our AC that wasn't present before. At this point I was completely fed up with Service Experts. I called another company and had an appointment for them to come out the following Monday (today). They managed to find the problem and had it fixed within an hour. The best part is they checked the Freon levels after and said that they were TOO high (meaning that the second person Service Experts sent out actually made things worse and charged us for Freon we didn't need). They took some out and finished fixing the actual problem and just like that our AC was working better than it has in the year that we've lived in this house. TL;DR Service Experts is a waste of time and money. They won't fix your problem fast, they won't do it cheap, and they don't seem to care. read more

We had an a/c unit put in by MountainWest and they messed up the install and that caused damage to our downstairs. But when we tried to get them, either company, they said it wasn't their problem because either MountainWest wasn't in charge or Service Experts wasn't responsible since they weren't part of the original install. So terrible customer support for both companies. read more

I feel very cheated by this company and do not recommend them. They charged me for an hour to find what another plumber said was a very basic part, and I could have just picked it up myself anywhere if they did not have it. $120 for them to "find" a part. Very very unhappy. read more

1st of all, I never give reviews, good or bad. I have never cared enough to take the time. But this service was absolutely the worst service I have ever received. It was so bad I am actually taking the time out of my very busy life to write this review! They sent me a bill in the mail for $527 for less than 1hr of work. What? Most expensive plumber I've ever heard of. All he did was get hair out of a clogged shower and TOLD ME what I can do for a toilet that wasn't flushing very well. He didn't even do anything with the toilet. I ended up having to pay this bill because of a complicated situation between us and the rental management. I absolutely feel like they are very dishonest people, taking advantage of a Rental situation! Charging what ever they want, thinking the owners wouldn't know what work they did or didn't do. But the owners wouldn't pay it and so they send it to us. We wouldn't pay it. They would not even discuss it with us and sent it straight to collections! Company was Thompson and Sons now Service Experts, Don't be fooled by the coupons they send, Although on time, the technician was rude, he refused to honor my "Thank You gift" Sent to me for being a previous customer, My repair was under warranty from the manufacturer We were billed for the service call, and for bogus repairs that would not get my water heater up and running, I now have to wait 4 days for the part to arrive and no hot water, and was told I will be billed again for the part to be installed. I will be into this repair almost five hundred dollars for something that is under warranty. All this and they still would not honor the valid coupon sent to me to try win my business back. read more

I'll give them one star for coming out the next day after I called.Maybe another because the Tech was friendly and seemed to do his best. But, their diagnostics of the problem was wrong. I'm so glad that I didn't follow their recommendation to change the three "cartridges" in my fixtures at $170. a piece. Because they were just fine. It was an stuck open valve with the recirculating system. I recommend if you have a problem with your hot water to call the Plumbing company that put the system in your home first. read more

I had two units not working properly, service tech (Rusty) came out without proper tools and equipment to service or repair my units. Said one unit out of Freon and the other unit was low (had no Freon to charge units), he said due to the units ages, he would have his colleague come out and quote us new units. He had no intention of repairing either unit and had no other available options for us. When Rusty's colleague came out, he quoted $17.4K to get us back up and running (and almost had me convinced this was a great deal). After telling him I would need to get back to him, I called another company for a 2nd opinion. The next company came out ready to repair and service down units, he was able to repair one unit for the price of Service Experts original service call and replaced the other unit for 60% less than Service Experts quote for the same sized unit. Service Expert quoted a Lennox unit, I purchased a Carrier unit. Lennox might be better, but is it worth 60% more for same SEER rating? The Carrier even had a better warranty. Service Experts is NOT a service company, rather they are in the business of selling new, over priced units. I would NOT recommend Service Experts to anyone I know. read more
