We wandered past this place at night and decided that we should come back in the morning in order to try them fresh. I was fascinated by the idea of a Portland cream, kind of like a Boston cream but with maple on top. Then I saw the donut of the month... Banana pudding. I do love banana pudding. I had to get both. Portland cream was good, I enjoyed how the maple juxtaposed the traditional Boston cream style donut. If I had just had that donut, coupled with the friendly service, this place would probably be a four. However I tried there banana pudding donut and I was amazed. This is one of the best ones I've ever had. The banana cream filling was delicious, paired really well with the vanilla frosting on top. Vanilla wafer was just a bonus. I wandered in here from the farmer's market. They have a lot of inside seating. The bell rings when the door is opened. The donuts are pretty solid. The server told me that they are most famous for the raspberry cheesecake (or raspberry cream?, I forgot the name). It was basically a jelly-filled donut with something like frosting on top. It was heavenly. It goes really well with black coffee. I tried the sesame donut hole for fun (because their name is Sesame Donuts), but it was mid. The Sid's Special was like a blueberry-filled donut, which didn't taste as good as the raspberry one. The Portland Cream was a cream-filled donut, similar to the Boston Cream. Sesame Donuts are one of Portland main establishment. Loved by both local and tourists. They are very no frills and casual, especially this location. I'm pretty familiar with the staffs and they're always friendly and nice. Got a great selection of donuts to choose from throughout the days, whether it be your classics favorites or fancier donuts they got you covered. Their stuffs always hit the spot. Great size, great price. They're super generous with their coffee too. This time we tried the Chocolate Cream that was HEAVY with the buttermilk cream (maybe a tad too much) but if you want a filling one this is the one for you. We also got the Cinnamon Twist which was also huge but the dough was nice and light, a tad stretchy. Completely covered with a sugar glaze. This one is perfect for dipping into your coffee. This was very close to our hotel, and we love hitting local spots, so we went here rather than a more touristy spot. Not sure what my husband got, as he ate it on the way back to the room, he said his donut was "ok". I got the maple bar with chocolate drizzle. The maple was overly sweet, and not enough maple flavor. The coconut cream was terrible. The donut itself was stale and tasted like old grease. It was just terrible. I was looking at dessert places to try while visiting portland and came across this place thru the TGTG app. This place has such a HUGE selection of donuts! I've never seen such variety in my life at a donut shop! It was fun to select from so many donuts but it also made it that much harder to choose! All of the donuts were super fresh and tasty and we loved them. My fav was the portland cream! It had a super tasty maple icing and it was filled with cream. It was fairly sweet and could not be eaten in a single sitting but, the maple flavor was delicious. Also really liked the blueberry fritter. Dang, these donuts are *really* good and they aren't super expensive like other places. Eat here!! Mom and I got a half dozen. Two apple ciders, s'mores, salted caramel, apple crumble, and chocolate coconut. Absolute best donut was that apple crumble!! The donut's texture was light and airy with a hint of sweetness. I loved the apple filling inside coupled with the streusel like topping. Think Krispy Kreme donut but better and an apple pie all in one! My next favorite was the chocolate coconut! Generous amount of fresh coconut mixed with the chocolate donut paired so well together. Great overall texture as well. Also some light chocolate frosting resting on top with a big glob down the center hole, which, while very sweet, was also very yummy. Next favorite was the s'mores! Well this and the coconut one were both pretty dang good to be honest. Loved the marshmallow fluff they used. Graham cracker bits were a little soft but unless you buy one right when they get put out, that's to be expected. Really sweet but they nailed the flavor combination to really give it that s'mores taste. And again, great donut texture. The salted caramel was ok. Nothing bad about it, just nothing that really stood out either. It tasted like a maple bar to me. And the apple cider donuts weren't my cup of tea. The flavor was a bit subdued so I couldn't taste much apple cider flavor and I wasn't a fan of how those specific donuts are made with the denser texture. Too dense for me, I much prefer the light and airy donut texture they used in making the apple crumble! But overall I was extremely happy I stopped here! They have a huge selection so I'm sure you can find at least one donut that hits the spot. The staff was really nice to us the short time we were inside. The prices are affordable and you definitely get a good bang for your buck. I highly recommend buying the apple crumble! You won't regret it! read more

This was the first stop on a walking donut tour of Portland. We had samples of different donuts and they were all good because they were the first donuts of the day, and they were donuts... duh! I think we sampled 4 or 5 different donuts and they actually do have a sesame donut which was pretty good. It wasn't as sweet as a normal donut and probably would have been a great donut to end with after all of the other sweet donuts. Very good, classic style donuts. Sesame Donuts has such a good reputation that I had to visit. As soon as I walked in I received a friendly greeting and asked what I wanted. I went with my two favorites... chocolate cake donut and an apple fritter. The chocolate cake donut was perfect. A little crunchy on the outside with a soft moist center. The flavor was delicious. This might be my new favorite donut shop in Portland. I've had 3 of the big chains so far and this is my favorite. They even shaped their donuts into hearts for February! Every donut was incredibly soft and wasn't too overpowering with sweetness, cream, frosting, or toppings. The cinnamon sugar donut literally melted in my mouth and I had regretted not ordering more of that flavor. With so many donut shops in Portland, why Sesame? They have gluten-free donuts. Yes, you read that right. Gluten. Free. Donuts. This wa she only place I found with a menu that clearly featured gf donuts. They get their donuts from a supplier so I'm not sure on the details. The person working told methey are made with rice flour. They reminded me of a mix between a yeast and cake donut (from when I used to eat gluten) because of how buoyant they are. So solid gf donut. What about toppings? Good news: anything you see on their gluten-ful donuts can be added to your donut! Watch our for gluten-containing toppings like cereal. I tried the chocolate and lemon (on separate donuts) both were great. (See my picture) I love chocolate but the lemon frosting was better. Slightly sweet and tangy. This space does have gluten so folks with severe allergies or Celiac, this might not work for you. The server did say they run out of these but I was able to get two on a Sunday afternoon no problem.  Inside they have a few counter spaces and a cute nook area to sit in with a small library. I was craving an egg in any style for breakfast and did not had any at home. So I'll looked for breakfast and delivery under 30 min. I found sesame do it with good reviews. So I ordered a bagel with bacon egg n cheese. With extra cheese. I also asked for onions but it seems they don't have any which is ok in a mostly donut shop :). But I was disappointed, first you can only choose bagel or croissant and they have four different bagels - but no choice so it ended up with a plain bagel. But that's a flaw I can easily overlook if everything else is right. But it wasn't as you can see in the picture there was ONE stripe of bacon for the whole bagel - I mean really? Also there was no extra cheese that I payed for on it as well. Or maybe they only do half a slice of cheese on the regular sandwich and I paid for the second half of that slice? Disappointing especially as the bacon and the egg was tasting great and it would be a really good breakfast sandwich if just more of the important part's I mean it's in the name BACON CHEESE and egg. I also ordered some fritters but they called me and told me there are sold out and if I want a refund or a replacement. I'll asked them for a replacement of there choice. This was great customer service! And maybe I should have known from the beginning when a place is called "donuts" in his name lol. I ordered three donut holes and they picked three different flavors - wow! And also did you ever had a jelly filled hole? Well here at sesames they do that. Even this tiny pieces of donut where fluffy and full of taste. Well done. When you order online you can't choose the donut flavor you only have the option between regular or fancy donuts. So I'll ordered a fancy one. The one I got was a maple one. I do not like maple very much. But they have been smart again to not overpower the flavor of maple they fill the donut with a regular custard and only to the topping with a maple sauce! Great even I could finish a maple donut that way! So if I'll only had ordered donut this might have been a five star review. But I didn't and the sandwich took away one star for being cheap at the beginning with only one stripe of bacon and a second star away for letting me pay for cheese that wasn't added. New day, new donut shop to try! Hubby ordered a maple bar, crumb, bear claw & the yum yum M&M donut. The sizes are a bit off in comparison. The bear claw and yum yum were light and fluffy, not too dense. The maple bar, lacked the fluffiness, and the icing lacked that distinct maple flavor.
