Mugoo Gai Pan
Aimee L.

Stil so grateful to Cagami Ramen for being closed that one day and forcing us to stop here for lunch one day. Still one of the best Chinese options in the county so far. Spring Garden is so much closer but Sesame edges them out with their soft noodles. The same lady is there every time and she looks so sad and thin but she's very nice. This is a takeout place, clearly, because while it was empty inside, people kept coming to pick up food. We tried the house special with soft noodles which was full of meats and had great flavor. I finished most of it myself before I left Ventura. The mugoo gai pan was the best dish, I believe, with the white sauce Mom and I love. The happy family mandarin style would have been better with the same white sauce. I had trouble with the broccoli when I snacked on an empty stomach. It's probably me getting less able to digest it, but that's really regrettable because this dish is very very tasty too! Steamed rice is extra, $1 a scoop but worth it. Eating out is a privilege. I'm going to enjoy it while I can still afford it!

Sesame Garden is a very small Chinese restaurant on Daily Drive in the Camarillo Plaza shopping center near the Habit Burger Grill and Presto Pasta. It's also my favorite Chinese restaurant in Camarillo. They have a great selection of items, all with generous portions and at great prices. All of their dishes are excellent and always fresh. In addition, they also have great lunch specials at great prices. And the staff is very helpful and friendly. One thing to be aware of is they can get pretty busy on weekend evenings but since they're really small (only around 10 tables inside and 2 outside) you may have to wait if you want to dine in. So, I recommend weekdays when it's less crowded. To sum up, I highly recommend Sesame Garden, the best Chinese restaurant in Camarillo.

Top dish is Orange Flavored Chicken and botton dish is House Special Crispy Chicken.

Yesterday evening, ordered Orange Flavored Chicken, House Special Crispy Chicken and Vegetable Spring Rolls on line through QMENU using my phone. Assumed that rice would be provided since I didn't see any rice on the menu other than Fried Rice Dishes, however no rice came with the order. Went back today and looked again and saw white rice listed under the Appetizers, so that was my mistake. The Orange Flavored Chicken is listed as "Spicy. Tossed with orange peel, green onion and chili peppers for spice." The dish was not spicy. It was ever so slightly orange flavored with one tiny piece of green onion and red peppers that had no heat or flavor in them. While the chicken in both orders was tender, both were coated in a thick pasty sweet sauce which I assume involved a lot of corn starch, although I'm not sure as I am a lousy cook. The only way I knew which chicken dish was the Orange Flavored Chicken was the fact that it contained lots of chili peppers. And I was also unimpressed by the spring rolls. I was very disappointed with both of the entries that my wife and I ordered. Perhaps the food is better when ordered and eaten at the restaurant, but for certain I will never again order food on line from Sesame Garden.

Orange chicken, crispy shrimp, large wor wonton soup, rice
Whitnie B.

Togo order: We got the Orange chicken, crispy shrimp( walnut shrimp but they call it a different name and no walnuts) , large wor wonton soup(per the restaurant wor wonton soup, is wonton without the noodles) , large white rice. Everything was crispy and good, the soup had all the meats and shrimp, and I asked for extra baby bok choy.

A really great Chinese restaurant in Camarillo. We ordered wor wonton soup and egg rolls, we were hungry and did not take pictures.

We dined in after my kids' recital for dinner. Place was clean and quiet. Service was great, she offered their best sellers and crowd faves. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was very good and they serve a lot yet Pricing was very reasonable.

The cumin lamb was flavorful and spicy. The Mao Cai was spicy, full of meat and the broth was tasty. The boiled fish was my second favorite - spicy and fish was not overcooked. The fried intestines were really great! The shrimp fried rice is ok. I wanted either a whole fish or a whole crab but they ran out - on a Saturday night. They have a good Asian beer selection. $35 for corkage. $6 valet parking with validation. Free for 1 hour only with validation. It's a very casual place. Clean.

The reception wasn't warm as the girl was on the phone and she just waved at us to get in. Food was scrumptious. Their basa fish fillet in chilli sauce had to be the best I've tasted. The fish was tender, sauce yummy, veggies fresh! It was excellently prepared. Husband and Wife beef and tripe slices was another outstanding dish. It was so good I had to order more rice to eat with it therefore happily broke my diet again. Steamd eggplant with pickled condiment on top tended to be on the salty side, it was soft and tasty. I loved it! Service was lukewarm at best. The girl performed her service in a convincingly nonchalant way. But at least I got lemon infused water refilled twice. :) Well decorated with Chinese cultural elements. Very spacious, clean and peaceful ambience. We had a lovely time and will return.

I came for lunch with my family and it wasn't too crowded Sunday at 12:30 pm when we came, though slowly a couple more groups trickled in while we were there. They offer lunch/dinner specials that are great if you don't want to share. For $12-13 at lunch, you can get your choice of entree + rice + egg roll + soup/salad. Portions are very generous too! One person got the Szechuwan chicken lunch special for $12 and wasn't able to finish the chicken. The rest of us shared a couple dishes off the regular menu: #102 Combination seafood ($23) #620 Fish with black bean sauce ($18) #804 Szechuwan shredded pork ($15) 3 bowls of rice ($1.75 each) Of the three dishes, we liked the seafood and fish the best. They were more savory than sweet, though they were still quite sweet. I didn't like the shredded pork at all as it was much sweeter than the other two. Portions for everything were generous and we took the remaining 1/3 of the food home for lunch the next day.

There were very few customers there for dinner on a Saturday night, so perhaps not surprising that they are changing management and turning the place into a Thai restaurant. Ambiance was quiet. The dinner combos are a great deal and all the side dishes were great - the egg roll was crispy and fresh, the shrimp was delicious, and the fried rice was well-seasoned, fluffy, and moist. The entrees were truly the star of the show. We got Ma Po tofu (traditional style) and dry wok veggie-chicken. The tofu was soft and creamy and the Ma Po sauce provided the sichuan numbing we've been searching for in Southern California. The dry wok was deeply flavorful. The veggie chicken was moist and savory and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. the ambiance - China kitchen was well decorated and elegant. The traditional artwork and attention to detail, down to the light fixtures made this a dining EXPERIENCE, not just a simple meal. The service-- Our waitress Ms. Vivian was warm, welcoming, and had a great personality! She frequently checked in on us and made us feel right at home. It was Ms Vivian's delightful personality that sealed the deal -- we will be coming back to China Kitchen soon. Thank you for a great dining experience!

There was eight of us, and we ordered a lot of dishes to share. I'm gonna break them down, but I have to say that nothing we had was not top quality. I haven't had food like this in years. First was the Kung pow chicken. Wow, it was just a perfect blend of spice and the chicken was perfect. No gristle. And that is the theme of this entire meal. I hate gristle, this Kung pow was sublime. Sweet-and-sour pork. I basically given up on this dish because no one gets it right, and it's always an excuse to hide gristle and fat. Not in this case. It was super tasty and for the first time I can remember there wasn't 1 ounce of gristle in this meat. It was just crispy tasty wonderful. Hong Kong style chow mein with pork. Another dish I haven't had in years, and this place nailed it. Reminded me of my old China house restaurant in Alameda. I mean it was really good. The pork was awesome, the gravy was perfect. What a great dish. The fried rice was excellent. Not greasy at all. I believe we got a combination fried rice and man was it good. Shrimp with lobster sauce.
