Vegetarian chicken lo mein and Kung pow tofu
    Julie W.

The food was SO good! The vegetarian 'chicken' lo-mein was so flavorful and the Kung pow tofu was cooked to perfection! Hot and sour soup was so yummy that I kept stealing bites! Egg rolls are delicious! They even have crunchy chow mein noodles and sauce on the table. The ambiance was great and they are wheelchair friendly. I'm on a walker and the had a spot for me to put it. The service was so fast, we had to let our food cool. As we left, I told them it's my new favorite restaurant!

Came here with to celebrate a birthday lunch and I was so pleasantly surprised by the authentic flavor! We ordered the egg foo young, sautéed green beans, chicken chow fun, yang chow fried rice, steamed sole, sizzling black pepper beef, walnut shrimp, calamari, orange chicken, and cheese wontons tons. They perfected the balance of flavors and the cook/wok char on the chow fun. The simplest dish is always the hardest to execute well and this was unanimously the absolute best dish! The next three dishes I really enjoyed were the orange chicken, yang chow fried rice, and the green beans. The calamari and sole were just ok but I wouldn't order them again. I didn't try the walnut shrimp or wontons but everyone enjoyed those. I definitely would not order the sizzling beef or the egg foo young again - the sizzling beef was over velveted and was basically mush, and the flavor was not good. The egg foo young was also not good, it was like a frozen thick dough patty that was defrosted and drenched in gravy. Service was a bit slow as it looked like there were only two people on staff, but very friendly. I like how they serve their entrees on vintage Pyrex plates and are able to accommodate large parties. Will definitely come back here again when in the area.

C5. Shrimp with Black Bean Sauce Lunch Special

I can't believe that it's been so long since giving this spot an updated review. Spring Garden is definitely in my top favorite Chinese restaurants in all of the 805. It's consistently delicious, the lunch specials can not be beat, and the staff are so friendly and kind. I've been here for dinner a few times and you get the traditional menu and prices. But if I had to recommend this spot to someone I would highly recommend coming for their weekday lunch specials. For under $15 you get a complete lunch combo. The lunch dine in combos come with soup, a main, rice, and fried wonton chips. The portions are super generous and the food is always made fresh to order. My top dishes here include: - Orange Chicken - Mongolian Beef - Shrimp with lobster sauce - Shrimp with black bean sauce The staff here are also what make this spot 5 star worthy. I've been coming here for about 8 years and the same 2-3 gals work the lunch shift. These ladies are awesome. Super friendly and quick. I appreciate that when I'm coming in for a lunch break they get me out in order 30 minutes. I never feel rushed but I appreciate the hustle. I love the family and local vibes that this spot represent. I highly recommend coming for a weekday lunch if you're in Ventura. It classic Americanized Chinese cooking at a super reasonable price with a friendly atmosphere. I'm so glad I'm close to this spot because it's always a 10/10.

Met one of my besties here for lunch !!! What a great deal . 15 bucks for soup and entree of your choice ! Like what ? Those prices aren't heard of nowadays in our area. I got the Mongolian beef with white rice . It was tasty ! Service was friend and fast ! I was in and out within my allotted lunch time. Clean restaurant. Not super busy !

Can't stay away from chicken with veg

Yet another stop at Spring Garden after a Sesame Garden splurge and two happy eaters unwilling to take the drive to Camarillo drove around the block to Spring Garden. We learned we can't handle their lo mein so we took the chow fun alternative, our well loved chicken & vegetables and shrimp with snow peas for meeeeee. All were well enjoyed. I wish there were a way to keep snow peas to keep cooking once they pour it into the little black takeout containers, but you can't beat their white garlic sauce. Mine never tastes quite the same even with Shaoxing wine. Their shrimp are so tender and sweet. I finished the shrimp and snow peas by myself. Adding the water chestnuts is genius. Love visiting them every time I visit mom.

GETTING HERE: This restaurant is kind of hidden in the corner of the strip mall where Trader Joe's and Walmart are located, off Victoria Avenue. (Spring Garden is actually just a few businesses down from TJ's.) REVIEW: My guest was in the mood for Chinese Food and specifically craving Chow Mein. We were able to squeeze in here before their break at 3 PM. The restaurant was empty, but it makes total sense as to why. The server seated us quickly and brought our waters to us just as quick. She was nice and polite and very helpful. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Shrimp (no picture) and my guest ordered her Vegetable Lo Mein lunch special. The shrimp was very good, I will admit. There wasn't very much pineapple, sadly, and they were very small pieces. The onions and peppers were cut big and were had lots of flavor. And their Hot and Sour soup was amazing. I didn't have my socks blown off on this visit, but since it was our first time here, I will give them another go when I am in Ventura. I guess overall it was just OK? Would recommend mostly.

With the cyclospora in mind, Chinese food seems like the safest bet. This place feels like a hole…read morein the wall type of restaurant. There were a couple couples that look like they're on dates. Service is really good here. And we ordered all the food we wanted to try. It seems like they tried to limit the chances of the cyclospora parasite since no one has a definite source yet (Mongolian beef usually has raw green onions but they subbed wok fired yellow onions). But some stuff they kept the cilantro and green onions (bc they were cold dishes) The pan fried dumpling would have been good if it didn't have so much Ginger.. I'm not too into Ginger but the dumpling was nice because it had the juice inside of it and the texture was nice The refreshing woodear is a cold dish that has a chewy/crunchy texture. The soy sauce/vinegar flavor makes it refreshing when the other foods get heavy. Spicy beef slices were not that bad, but I prefer more of the spicy szechuan flavor (numbing/tingly feeling). The cilantro and green onions also provided good flavor The beef and onion pancake reminded me of mushu beef, it had the same wrap, hoision sauce flavor with meat and veggies-green onions. It also had good amount of meat Hunan beef was ok but wife enjoyed it. Wife's cooking prepared me for the peppers...is it a jalapeno or a green pepper...Russian roulette if you can't handle spicy. The Mongolian beef had reg onions instead of the green onions. Lots of onions..but I can't be mad bc the onions had the wok fire flavor, which I enjoy and not many places do it. The spicy eggplant with hot garlic sauce had lots of woodears, the eggplant was a little more on the sweet side, and the eggplant had a little bit of a crispyness to it. The salt and pepper shrimp almost reminded me of fried cake batter. It had some sweetness to it so it confused me cuz I was expecting something savory. At the end of the meal we had our fortune cookie, which seemed like it was more of an ad than a fortune.. sneaky Fortune Cookie company. Overall this place was pretty good and worth trying, especially since they have great service

Well indeed it's really good. Pack with flavor not spicy but just enough kick. Very well. Now, this place has the best Dandan noodle, even better than the one in Monterey Park or Alhambra. Best part is, its even good when it's cold. Garlic pork ribs. I was thinking like a riblets but it's more like garlic fried pork chop. Not what I expected but it's delicious. Fried pork dumpling. The meat inside is very succulent. Thumbs up. Can't skipped the XLB. I must say that the staff are very hard working and efficient. Thanks. Will be back soon.

I hate to leave a bad review because I know restaurants are struggling like all of us, but with the price of everything these days, this almost $80 meal for 2 was going to be a treat. Choose wisely where you spend your hard earned $ these days. The soup choice was incorrect, the paper wrap chicken was ok but the 2 fried shrimp and egg rolls were bar b doll sized! Included fried rice had nothing but brown color. Our 3 flavor chow mein was greasy but dry?, gummy and mostly flavorless, lacked any discernible vegetables and had just a small amount of meat. Craziest of all, the sweet and sour chicken came as 2 flavorless sliced, battered and fried chicken cutlets and a container of a small amount of basically raw veggies in what tasted like a cornstarch slurry with ketchup and a bit of pineapple juice added. My Sis called the restaurant and they offered to comp an item with next order, but with the amount of restaurants in Ventura that go above and beyond on a consistent basis, there won't be one. We both have spent some time in food service so this almost double hurt knowing that we would've been a lot happier with a big order of Panda Express!!

What an AMAZING restaurant. Hats off to you China Kitchen…read more First, the food -- China Kitchen has a diverse menu with high-quality vegetarian options that many competitors lack. The dinner combos are a great deal and all the side dishes were great - the egg roll was crispy and fresh, the shrimp was delicious, and the fried rice was well-seasoned, fluffy, and moist. The entrees were truly the star of the show. We got Ma Po tofu (traditional style) and dry wok veggie-chicken. The tofu was soft and creamy and the Ma Po sauce provided the sichuan numbing we've been searching for in Southern California. The dry wok was deeply flavorful. The veggie chicken was moist and savory and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. the ambiance - China kitchen was well decorated and elegant. The traditional artwork and attention to detail, down to the light fixtures made this a dining EXPERIENCE, not just a simple meal. The service-- Our waitress Ms. Vivian was warm, welcoming, and had a great personality! She frequently checked in on us and made us feel right at home. It was Ms Vivian's delightful personality that sealed the deal -- we will be coming back to China Kitchen soon. Thank you for a great dining experience!
