This used to be our go to spot. The food taste and quality has been on a steady decline. We decided to give them one last chance tonight and unfortunately, it will be our last. The kung pao chicken tasted funky/old, the crispy beef had a tasted like it was fried in old oil and fried rice was flavorless. The person who answers the phone speaks and understands very little English. I've dealt with her a couple of times but she is quite rude and confrontational. The last time I placed an order she called me to tell me that it didn't have an ingredient in it that was advertised. It took several tries for me to get the gist of what she was trying to tell me and finally I just agreed to take the item. When I received my order it was very different than what I thought it was supposed to be, even with her change, and the flavor was lacking. It was a waste of money to me. I'm going to assume that the owners are new but there is no excuse for abusing the customers who are paying to do business with you. Makes for a perfect quick lunch spot or when your in a rush with hungry family members at home, I know this spot can get the food prepared in no time. When I order in person or over the phone I swear the food is always ready in 10-15 minutes. So convenient! For lunch I've tried the Mongolian beef, shrimp with lobster sauce, and sweet & sour chicken. All of the food here is fresh & delicious, I'd highly recommend giving this spot a try. It felt like going into someone's house. Very cozy place and food came out quickly. I usually rely on Yelp photos because I'm not very familiar with the dishes, so I like to see what I may order. Susan was so sweet and while we decided what to eat, she pulled my daughter aside and drew her picture. It was so quick and she's so talented. I appreciated the detail. Husband ordered combination chow fun, I ordered fried pork and then we got the steamed dumplings with pork. Everything was so delicious and fresh. Beware that portions are big. Just recently moved to Camarillo and came across this hidden gem and it's literally a block away from my house. I'm always looking for a good Chinese restaurant. I ordered to go and it was ready in 10 mins. I ordered the Spring Rolls, Kung Pao Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Beef & Broccoli and your choice of steam or fried rice. It was delicious, the rolls were a perfect start, the Kung Pao Chicken had iust enough spiciness and plenty of peanuts (which I love) the Sesame Chicken was flavorful, and the Beef & Broccoli was tender and the broccoli still had that nice firmness not over cooked. I use to love this restaurant because the of kind service and great quality food. The lady there was always accommodating and nice (pre pandemic). I was so excited to hear they reopened for dine in options in May 2021, so decided to go for a lunch special. I will not go back. The lady was rude and kept letting me know how much she does not like dine in and prefers takeout. Rather than just mention it once and let it go, she made sure I was aware of her stance my entire meal. It was uncomfortable and I noticed her doing this to the other 2 parties dining in. She kept taking her mask on and off and was complaining about everything. My food came out without 2 minutes of me ordering it and I am pretty positive it was microwaved leftovers. The food was piping hot (way hotter than something from a stove top) and seemed to be microwaved to the point that the chicken was rubbery and too hot to eat. It was not fresh. If you ask for anything (a drink, napkin, to go box), she will let you know that those items cost her money and if I did a to go order, they wouldn't cost her. She also let me know that she had to pay for a dishwasher so I could sit and eat in the restaurant. Being that the prices have gone up and you now have to pay for water (bottled only) and tea ($4 a pot), I am in a way paying for those "extra" services. I was really disappointed in her attitude and the food. I wanted to support her business (I pick one local restaurant a week to support) and felt like I was inconveniencing her by paying her to eat at her establishment. My mother in law and I always get our nails done in the salon here when I visit. We decided to eat here because it was close, around 12:39 already, and cold out. We walked in and I was shocked that this tiny space was covered with blue cloth tablecloths and stuffed toys were everywhere. The woman (owner?) was going to seat us behind another couple, then said "first table ok." I said how? Someone's to go order us there. So she had us go to the table behind the couple. No music was playing. She brought us menus and my MIL ordered orange chicken and I ordered chicken chow mein. Soup of the day was egg flower which I really wanted, but I guess when she asked if k wanted spicy, after my MIL said she didn't want her entree spicy, she must've thought I meant spicy soup bc that's what I got. We had gotten Starbucks so she said "oh you don't need drinks." She didn't bring or even offer water. The food came out pretty fast and with brown rice Instead of white, but neither of us cared. I was just surprised bc the people in front of us had white. So maybe that's on me for assuming, but it was alright. The woman spent the entire time watching Chinese shows on her laptop at the table near us which was also awkward. I didn't notice till later that my chow mein only included noodles and chicken, nothing else. Weird. The bill was around 25 so my MIL paid with $40 cash and the woman brought back change in the form of a ten and some ones which I found presumptuous. Overall we were satisfied, but the atmosphere is weird and it's clear that this woman wants the place to be takeout only. I doubt we'll eat there again. read more

The crispy appetizer noodles were old and stale. My pork fried rice was old, the pork tasted old and was discolored, very dark. The orange chicken tasted very old as well and was drenched in a funky tasting sauce. I found it weird how I ordered 4 dishes and they came out in less than 5 min. Boxes of food and papers all around the small restaurant. And lastly, tables are covered in cotton material with a bunch of stuffed animals that is just odd to have at a sanitary table. We honestly didn't even want to take our food home to go (we almost had full dishes left of food) but we didn't want to be rude so we took them. We called in our order for Kung Palo Chicken, Shrimp and green beans, and Mongolian Beef wit an order of egg rolls. the egg rolls are the thick ones (not the skinny spring rolls many restaurants pass off as egg rolls).The Kung pan chicken was delish but a bit too spicy for 3 of the group (more for me!!!). Next time I will ask them to tone down the spice. Portion size was huge - three entrees and we fed 6. Great value. We will be back. read more

Happened upon this place on accident. They deliver to us in Cam so we thought - why not? I will say this: We've never dined in. Only ordered delivery or takeout. Their wor wonton soup is really good and fresh with plenty of veggies. Their other dishes are good and fresh. And there's plenty of it! We've had quite a few things: the wor wonton soup to broccoli beef to orange chicken and honey walnut shrimp (I'm not a huge fan of that or their white rice but that's just me). The hubby didn't care - he likes it. In all honesty, I can't remember all the things we've ordered here over the past year or so. But I've never been disappointed. Just some things that weren't my favorite but that happens. On a side note - there's a little old lady that was working once and made (what I thought was) a funny joke about me paying for dinner so my husband must have been broke I laughed. Ordered takeout a few times over the last six months or so. I thought the food had good portions and was of quality. Had lemon chicken a couple of times amongst others. Came in last time I noticed a sign that one dollar will be added to each dish. Nothing on their takeout menu says they do this. Just wanted to let you all know in case you are not paying attention to the details of your receipt. When I asked the owner about my bill she said they were still lower than everybody in town, showed me how she calculated the bill said she owed me one dollar back which she gave me. The food is good, not great, and not super spicy (unless you ask for it that way) no ice for our water, and the table service was fine. The portions are large, so either split one or plan on plenty of leftovers to take home. They changed owners and chefs I think. The restaurant did a make over and doesn't look like what it did one year ago. We walked in around dinner time and it was pretty empty although it is a Tuesday night after all. 5 stars for customer service which is sometimes rare for an Asian restaurant but we had some hot and sour soup and sesame ball as desserts on the house. They also had an extra 15% off for Chinese New Year which is fantastic! However, 3 stars for the food. I'm sad to say that the once beloved chili wonton from last year is no longer available. The chili wonton I got today was more like a spicy wonton soup. It wasn't bad but it was nothing compared to the one dish I once loved. We also ordered the beef chow fun and the stir fried green beans and most were mediocre. A little bland IMO. The sesame ball was very good though! Overall, I was a bit disappointed in my meal today. The employee helping me out was quick and very kind, I can't believe I hadn't gone to this place that is so close to me! I will definitely be coming back for such a great deal. Frankly, all the food we have had from this restaurant is takeout or delivery (One of the few restaurants that still delivers ) But when I do pick it up the restaurant is very clean and nice looking. The food is consistently fresh, and delicious, with generous portions. We are very fortunate to have so many good Chinese restaurants in Camarillo but in our opinion, this is the best. Their Wor Wonton Soup has plenty of shrimp, wonton, and beef, which we always include in our orders. We loved everything we order from this place but our favorites are Crispy Beef, Soft Noodle with Beef or Shrimp Combo, Pan Fried Pork Dumplings, and Crispy Duck. This is probably the best Chinese food in Camarillo since the Shanghai Eatery closed which held the "best" title for years, HG now holds the title. Hunan Garden uses high quality fresh ingredients and you taste it in their flavorful dishes. When I asked for an item that was not on the menu they accommodated my request and made it very well the Pork Chop Suey, I loved it, we ordered it again tonight, amazing garlic flavor, tons of bean sprouts and veggies just as it should be. They are generous with take-out portions and very prompt with delivery, everything is packaged well, and everything tastes so good, thank you Hunan Garden you cook with heart and soul and we appreciate you!
