Volvo XC70 AWD parked at Sesi
Suchet G.

Four years ago we moved back to Michigan from VA. I owned a 1997 Volvo 850 GLT Sedan. Needed service/repairs. When on the East Coast Volvo dealers were a dime a dozen. In South Eastern Michigan they are few and far between. Initially I dealt with Suburban Volvo in Troy a few times and then one day they quoted me $500 on a repair and after all was said and done they jacked it up to $1100. So I went looking online and found Swedish Motors in Ann Arbor. They claimed on their website they were the best in the area for Volvos so I show up at their doorstep to get quoted for a tuneup. I was told $1200. After I thanked them for their time I am driving home and I see Sesi Lincoln Volvo on Jackson Road. So I stopped in. I figured at this point it don't hurt to shop a bit. I met with their service guy Chris Moroni and he quoted me $126 for the tuneup. I was hooked. I got my car tuned up here ever since I have been a repeat customer and have been well taken care of. Just because my Volvo is 16 years old they did not try and charge me outrageous prices befitting a brand new 2014 Volvo. So far they have installed a new timing belt here, transmission repair here, tuneup here, ac repair here, and today 4 years later I am back again to set up yet another appointment for a complete tuneup that will be done in two weeks time. I trust Sesi Volvo's Service dept with my pride and joy, my 1997 Volvo 850GLT and as long as I stay in MI and have that car, she will be fixed here and here only! Thank you to the folks here at Sesi Volvo Lincoln Mazda for being honest to your customers!!!!

This is what service looks like from Sesi! After "fixing" the problem 2+ times, the bandaid fell off again.

First time at Sesi for routine oil change. Friendly staff and efficient service. Nice clean waiting area. Happy to do business there.

I got it home, only to find that the front brake rotors FAILED state safety inspection due to being under rotor thickness specification. The pads were worn to within a millimeter of the wear sensors as well. The dealership offered no assistance, even though the car supposedly went through a "multipoint" inspection. Afterward, they said they just did a start/drive/stop inspection and that they told me I was told this. Now the car was purchased as is, true, but it requiring a $2000 brake job right out of the gate was quite a shock. The car has been on jackstands (picture attached of my car of jack stands) in my garage since it failed inspection waiting on parts as a result. Dealer response: "not our problem." Noted, so here we are. Next up is car registration. As a member of the military, I wanted to register my car in South Dakota. All I need the dealership to do is sign a SD Form 1004 (out of state tax assessment) stating that I paid sales tax at the dealership (which I did), but they flat out refused to sign the form. This will end up costing me an additional $1800 in unnecessary taxes all because they will not sign a form attesting that I paid sales taxes directly to them. This has been the absolute worst car buying experience I have ever had, bar none. Other's local folk's (Michigan) experiences may have been great, but if you are buying out of state, I recommend going elsewhere unless you want zero support after the sale at all and a runaround with your paperwork. Silver lining is, I learned a lot about how NOT to treat people from my dealings with this dealership. Just a frustrating, costly and disappointing experience all around. :( ***I wanted to add: brakes are obviously a critical safety item and the fact that this fundamental issue was just so callously ignored and dismissed states volumes about how much yours and everyone else's safety means to this dealership. The more I think about my loved ones possibly being in an accident due to this negligence really upsets me. I was a service technician at BMW before I went to college and the military and this issue would have never passed out of our service department, at least back in the 1990's.

To their credit, the dealership did attempt multiple repairs and eventually provided a rental during one of the visits, but the process became extremely frustrating. Since purchasing the vehicle, I've had to make repeated trips back to the service department for the same unresolved issues. The Explorer sat for hours during one appointment without being looked at, I went several visits without any loaner assistance, and communication between departments often seemed disconnected. On top of the original leak issue, a leaking rear shock, rear main seal leak, oil plug leak, and a metal-on-metal noise were later discovered. Some staff members, including Lance and Shaun, were helpful and professional when addressing concerns, but overall the experience has been disappointing considering how soon these problems started after purchase. As of my latest visit, the metal hitting noise is still present despite multiple attempted fixes. I understand used vehicles can have issues, but I expected better inspection, communication, and follow-through from a large dealership.

Instead of fixing my sensor - the thing I paid them to do - they lied they aligned/calibrated it and did nothing else. Not to mention, when calling to ask about what they could do to change my opinion/review, I straight up told them that if they would fix the part that they should've (since I've already paid for it) but fix it for "free" (aka don't charge me again???) that I would be pleased and would be more than happy to delete the review. They claimed that they would call me back to see "what they could do" and yet I never heard from them again. It's been over a year and my car's crash sensor was never fixed nor acknowledged again. I have photo evidence of my original review. My original review was: "Very nasty and disrespectful towards women in the service department. Every time I asked a question I'd receive a condescending answer with a cocked head and scrunched face from frank. Very unprofessional. However, when he spoke to my dad or any male - it was with upmost respect." Furthermore they are overpriced and don't do what was asked - again they did NOT fix my sensor.

I'm writing this review as a warning to others thinking about getting service work at Suburban. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I made an online appointment (with a loaner car) on Friday, January 30th, I did not receive my car back until the evening of Monday, February 9th. When I brought my car in on 1/30, they said the system messed up and they couldn't look at it until the next Monday. They also said they don't offer loaner cars anymore and I could call Enterprise down the street. Since my car was still driveable, I kept it that weekend and brought it back Monday. On Monday morning, they called me and said they had people out and couldn't look until Wednesday. Enterprise also told me they wouldn't have a rental until Wednesday (not Suburban's fault but adds context). I understand outside factors happen but I wish I was informed about that prior to dropping my car off on Monday. Wednesday comes and they are radio silent the whole day. I texted and called with no response. Thursday they text me and say they can look at it Friday. So there's been no communication, I'm unable to coordinate if I need a rental car and now I'm out of a car until the end of the week. Throughout this week they weren't responsive via text. They also could never put me in touch with anyone when I'd call to check in. I felt very stuck. On Friday, they finally send me an estimate and are super responsive about that aspect. When it comes to getting me to sign off on paying them, they're quick to see and reply to text messages. I approved the work asap, I really didn't want to but at this point I just needed the work done. I haven't checked with another mechanic, but I'd hate to see how much I overpaid for this work. At noon on Friday they texted me to say it will now be done on Monday. So now I'll be without my car for the whole weekend in addition to the week it's already been and it's so late in the day on Friday that I couldn't arrange a rental. Their lack of communication inconvenienced me once again. I replied immediately asking if there's any way to get it back sooner because I don't have a car. They didn't reply until Saturday morning with a short message along the lines of "no, sorry Monday". On the Monday when I was promised the car, I didn't hear from them most of the day. I texted in the afternoon asking for a status update and heard back at 5pm that it was ready. I asked for a shuttle to pick me up, which they sent (the literal least they could do). The shuttle driver was quite unfriendly and didn't seem happy to provide a ride so close to the end of the day. I now have my car back and can post my experience here. I was so unhappy and frustrated not just by the delay but by the complete lack of communication which would have allowed me to make other arrangements. They did not listen to my concerns and didn't respond when I would ask. I felt totally taken advantage of and powerless but I do hope this review steers some customers away from Suburban. I went here a few years ago when they were still La Fontaine and had a fine experience. I don't know if it was the change in ownership or what, but this was very, very frustrating. I have an older car and probably will be buying a new one in the next few years. There's zero percent chance I would look at a car from this dealership after this experience. I just hope they did the work I paid for correctly.
