Both of us got mahi tacos and both of us felt they were lacking, in filing and in taste. Yes the fish has a bit of spice/ kick to it but otherwise the taco was on the bland side. Woah-- this place beats Taco Buddha out of the park! Much, much better. We live 2 miles from this place, so thought it would be a safe bet for takeout. Our server overall provided our table great service. Weather this evening was cool and relaxing which is why we chose this place because Teddy our dog is allowed in the outdoor patio. Please continue to offer the NA beverages. Tried the NA Paloma and would order that again. Chips and salsa appetizer worked well for our table & it would be helpful if on the menu it noted this appetizer did allow chip refill since we had extra salsa. We asked our server for additional chips and we were able to enjoy with remaining salsa. One thing we were not too thrilled about is the way the tacos are served to the table. The taco holders are a great idea but would be better if each customer got their own taco holders / served each customer their tacos in separate plates / dishes because it is easy to forget certain taco types when all placed in one to two ala carte taco holders and the tacos do not have labels. We appreciate the server and the other team members knowing the names of the tacos when bringing the order but afterwards we had to guess on a few of tacos in the middle of our meal because because certain tacos looked similar. Delicious! One of my favorite places for tacos, but my first time visiting the Kirkwood location. This location has a arcade room which makes it unique from other Mission Tacos in STL. Service was very friendly and our food came out surprisingly fast for a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the chips and queso con chorizo and a variety of tacos. My only complaint is that the food wasn't really warm at all (maybe it's not supposed to be?) even though it came out so quickly, but it really didn't negatively impact the flavor or my experience. I have always been a fan of Mission Taco (I don't care what they call it now). Our waitress was really great, i have to get better about names. Stressed it seemed but she had a lot of awful kids in her section. She made a mistake with our chips and queso, but wholly admitted it and was like well i just totally made that up. Which I genuinely appreciated the human nature of it. The food was great as usual. We got the dessert empandas to go and they were amazing! The chocolate that comes with it... OMG! I will say for this location; beware of the Kirkwood parents though. Kids running all over the place and carrying on so loud we moved tables. The parents act like "well they are just kids and everyone should understand". Well I have a kid as well and she does not and will not act these kids. We came here with a big group for a birthday. The birthday person had called ahead as we were expecting 16 people. When we arrived they advised they were aware of the call ahead and that it could be awhile before they had an area to sit or we could split up into tables. The decision was made to split into tables. I didn't enjoy that Hubby and I usually share meals but really couldn't with the seating situation that was going on (yes this was in part due to the bday person's decision and not a fault of the restaurant). I also didn't like that all the tacos come out in one big long taco tray and no additional plates... so we had a table with 8 people and 2 taco tray things so my taco was passed around the table before it got to me. Then when it did arrive to me I didn't have a plate to put it on. Wierd. All that said the waitress did a great job keeping up with all of us and there were lots of drink orders, apps and meals ordered at different times etc. She also proactively offered to split checks and matched us with our spouses. I hadn't been to Mission Taco in years and had never been to this location. Three of us went there last night and it was good! It's a big place and they were fairly busy on an early Sunday evening. We were seated immediately and our server, Sky, came over right away to take our drink order. Sadly, it had been a long weekend, so it was waters all around. I'm getting a margarita next time! We placed an order for an appetizer and then decided what else we wanted while that was being prepared. We ended up getting the Mexican street corn fritters, chips and salsa, and six tacos for the three of us. It was all really good! We couldn't quite finish everything - we were full! While the portion size for an iceberg lettuce salad satisfied, the salad wasn't very interesting. Mixing in poblano salsa and crushed tortilla chips helped. Perhaps I missed the full description of a grilled chicken taco because the nearly $4 item I received was a small street taco. I enjoyed it but was expecting something more substantial. Empanadas my friend had were flavorful with puffy, pastry shells. We both enjoyed the chips (an appetizer). The two supplied salsas had either poblano or habanero heat. The mild poblano was still too spicy for my friend. We asked but were told MTJ doesn't have a simple tomato salsa. While I was down visiting my family we went to lunch and ordered some chips & salsa / guac, margaritas, and some flavor-packed tacos. Chips & Salsa: Two salsas - one being smokier & spicier. Chips perfectly salted to complement the salsas. Guacamole & Chips: Minimally spiced guacamole to showcase the flavors of the ingredients (avocado, lime, pico de gallo, and queso fresco). Thick and luscious dip that went well with the salsas. I picked out three tacos to try that included the BBQ Duck, Beef Tinga, and Mango-Hop-Anero Shrimp. This was my first time at the Mission Taco in Kirkwood; I had been previously to the Mission Taco in CWE and loved it. The Kirkwood location is super kid-friendly with a fun arcade where some of the games only need 2 or 3 tokens (each token is 25cents). My husband had a great time playing a nostalgic Teenage Mutant Turtle game and my kids enjoyed skeeball. We used the Yelp wait-list option and were quickly seated shortly before 5pm on Sunday. We tried the South beach burrito, shrimp mango taco, yucatecan taco, and Baja fried fish taco. My kids got the quesadilla and beef burrito with fries and refried black beans. I loved the burrito's creamy cilantro rice, the fried Baja fish and shrimp. We finished our meal with the churros dipped in Mexican chocolate which has a spicy kick to it. They came back and only took our drink order and then said they would come back soon....which was awhile later. The food was ok - nothing exceptional, especially for the price. For the appetizers we got the guacamole, black beans, and the corn fritters. We got various tacos: the baja fish taco (both grilled and fried were very dry), carne asada (dry), and shrimp (barely any avocado). The drinks were good though - we had the mission margarita and the mezcal margarita. I feel like the best time to go is at off hours. Today was my first visit to Mission Taco Joint and I am a huge fan. With the beautiful December 70 degree weather, it was a perfect day to sit outside and enjoy their refreshing Spicy Mission Margarita before having their Mango Habanero Shrimp Taco & Hot Chicken Taco. The shrimp was fantastically cooked - juicy & great flavor. The chicken was seasoned well, slightly spicy and came out with a crispy outside and juicy inside, as it's intended. Both tacos had great flavor and complimentary toppings while also being light and enjoyable. Service was great from start to finish! One thing that I miss living across the river is not having a MTJ within a short drive. So while I had time to kill waiting for my dogs to get finished at the dog groomer in Kirkwood, I got my MTJ fix. What I love about MTJ, is no matter what location you go to, your experience is always going to be the same. They're very consistent with their service and quality of product. Some folks complain that you have to buy your chips and salsa, but I say, get over it and pay for it. They're going to be a better quality and the salsas themselves are worth the minimal bucks. I will say, what I wish is that you could get a combo that had one salsa and a small queso. I like to double dip my chips and that would make me happy. I've been a longtime fan of the hand made and shaken Margaritas and today I fell in love with, Tough Love. Having an addiction to jalapeños, I can now quench my thirst with their Mission Margarita flavored with fresh jalapeños. Oh, I cannot put into words how refreshing this cocktail was. My choice of tacos for todays lunch were; Mango Kween Taco (Pride Month Collaboration), BLT Taco and Hot Fried Chicken Taco. I simple could not have gone wrong with, grilled flank steak, beer battered bacon and crispy habanero marinated chicken breast. I loved them all, so do not ask me to pick a favorite. When posted on Facebook that I stopped here for lunch waiting for the dogs to be finished at the groomer, I was accused that I did it on purpose. House Salsas and hot sauces. The Carne Asada fries are a guilty pleasure and perhaps the best item on the menu. Service and atmosphere always deliver. Indoors is modern with wood accents, a large bar, and hip. Outdoor seating as well. The space used to be a micro brewery so half of the restaurant is turned into an arcade with a view into the tortilla factory. Pretty cool.
