House Salsas and hot sauces. The Carne Asada fries are a guilty pleasure and perhaps the best item on the menu. Service and atmosphere always deliver. Indoors is modern with wood accents, a large bar, and hip. Outdoor seating as well. The space used to be a micro brewery so half of the restaurant is turned into an arcade with a view into the tortilla factory. Pretty cool. Came here a little bit different. I'm a huge fan of tacos and burritos so I figured why not we had a large party of 12 people. The Service was very, very slow and very forgetful. I would understand more if the restaurant was busy but beans that there was only one other party in there... I was disappointed. The tacos were decent and edible. I really did like the two salsa varieties for the chips and salsa. I got a burrito as did a few other people. Awful decision. The burrito was so dry. I had to ask for a side of salsa for the burrito.. just to give it some moisture. You can't load up a burrito with a bunch of dry meat and potato and fried blacked beans and it be eatible... some sort of cream or sauce would make it better. The salads helped slightly but I wouldn't recommend it. The brah'rito is far too dry. I don't even think mine had guacamole.. but I wouldn't order. The south beach was another awful burrito. Nobody finished the burritos or even wanted to take them to go. If you go here, stick with the appetizers and tacos. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet....it's my favorite tacos EVER!!! On my list of places I absolutely have to go to when I'm home in STL. To start - the atmosphere in this place is upbeat & fun. Makes for a fun dinner for almost any occasion - a date, or with a group of friends or family. I went with my aunt & grandma tonight and had a great time. The food always come out super quick. I've been to all the Mission Taco locations in STL & have never waited long for my food. The Kirkwood location also has great parking options. They have their own big lot & a lot across the street, so it's never too hard to find a spot near by. This location also has a huge arcade, which is great if there's a long wait or you have kids with you. I've tried lots of things from here & have never been disappointed. Chili Crusted Fries - really good, but spicy. The chipotle sauce that comes with them is so good. Carne Asada fries - basically nachos in french fry form. Amazing, defiantly a great appetizer to split with a big group. Spicy Chorizo Taco - really spicy, but good. The pineapple salsa is what I loved most about it. Portobello Taco - such a good vegetarian option!!!!! Goat cheese is my favorite cheese, but I still like this taco better without it. It makes it really creamy & rich which is not what I want my tacos to be like. I order this one every time I go though, so I obviously I still love it (I just leave off the goat cheese). Baja Fish - not my fav. I love fish tacos normally, but this one is nothing special. Mango-Hop-Anero Shrimp - YOU MUST ORDER THIS ONE. Best shrimp taco I've ever had. The combo of the aioli & fresh mango salsa is so good. Can't recommend this one enough. Hot Fried Chicken - I looooove this one. VERY spicy though, so if you have a low-medium tolerance I don't recommend. Soft Taco - their vegan option! I love vegan food, but I don't like ground beef & that's exactly what this taste like so I sadly never order it. If ground beef is your thing then defiantly get this one, vegan or not. You won't be able to tell. Last, but not least, their Mission Margarita. I don't know why but this is truly the best, most fresh margarita EVER. It's so good!!!!! It's not too sweet or sour. It's the perfect combination of the two & doesn't hurt your stomach after a margarita they'd serve you at a traditional mexican restaurant. I stopped here for a quick solo lunch while running errands in Kirkwood. The ambiance is welcoming, open, and kid friendly. There is even an attached arcade to entertain tiny diners. I got some fresh guacamole and chips for an appetizer. It was a little heavy on the cotija cheese but the avocado was fresh. The chips are apparently made in house and were very tasty. As a pescatarian my choices were somewhat limited. I don't prefer fake meat because I don't like the taste of meat so the "vegan hungry planet beef" choices were ruled out. I wasn't in the mood for fried shrimp so that left basically one choice. I got the grilled fish tacos. The white fish was a bit dry but well seasoned. I loved the soft corn shell. I also love that they are sold à la cart making my meal size totally customizable. I sat in the bar since I was alone and the bar tender was an absolute sweetheart. He was so attentive and kind despite his busy workload. This wasn't my first visit and it won't be my last! It's not groundbreaking but a great find for $4 tacos. read more

I have been here once. Not very impressed maybe because the tacos/food is very expensive and it all tastes ok. The tacos are much smaller and all other items are sold a la carte. I did not like the design of the kirkwood restaurant. There are a lot of games setup around the seating. The salsa and chips taste ok. I really do not remember any service at all. We had arrived at 6 weren't seated until 6:35. The establishment is huge compared to their other locations. They have a parking lot dedicated to Mission Taco, but it was packed for a Saturday evening. The food took awhile and the tacos were cold, which has never been the case at their CWE location. If a Mexican-style restaurant wants to survive, it has to at least be able to do a good guacamole. Chips with the guac were a bit disappointing, though. They were warm and crispy, but bland & lacking in saltiness. Tacos were hit or miss. They are street style tacos, with a corn tortilla. However, it's a single tortilla, not double. So for each of my three tacos, the tortilla didn't hold up. Rather, it tore/ripped as I was eating each taco, requiring me to finish the filling from the plate. Some of the tacos were very tasty - those that involved marinated meats or fillings. But the ones that were a slice of beef, e.g., were on the dry and chewy side. A bit disappointing. read more

Wow. I gave Mission Taco another chance and was sorely disappointed. Cold food, like sitting out for 40+ minutes cold. The kicker was that it came to my table in about 15 minutes. My server offered to make it right back in the kitchen, it was brought back out still not very hot, certainly not hot like anything was actually cooked, like on a fucking stove for gods sake. It was also just kind of sloppily "fixed" with more by this point congealing queso. shit I don't know....I do know that I had zero time to negotiate supper, so I left this gross food. Admittedly in a completely unsatisfied huff, but I did come back and apologize for leaving and tip the waiter, who was really great and really accommodating. This is the first time I have been to this location since the switch to session taco. As usual the food was great but the front of house was awful. We were told different times and we were literally the only group waiting while many tables were open and the hostess just kept saying we had to wait. They seemed annoyed with us and seemed to be speaking about us with others while we were looking right at them. I have never experienced anything like that especially when all we wanted to know is when we would get a chance to sit. Also had kids with us that would have loved to use the arcade area which makes the place sooo kid friendly but with a 40th birthday there it wasn't available. Just very disappointed with the service but the wait staff who helped us was wonderful and quick once we were sitting. I won't be going back anything soon after that experience. read more

I typically visit the Soulard location but wanted to try the Kirkwood location today. Unfortunately, I will not return to this location again. The tortilla shells were super hard around the edges. They tasted as if they were stale. I found myself tearing off the hard parts and then eating my tacos with half of the shell. They bought back the duck tacos; however the tacos are nothing like the ones in the past; today they were dry and lacked favored. I'm not sure if it's a different quality of duck or if the cook overcooked the duck but I will not order those again. Lastly , there was a server that was constantly coughing in her hands and touching her face ...I'm hoping she washed her hands before she handled any food! read more

Mission Taco is my go to whenever I'm craving Mexican food, and it's been so long I forgot how good it is!!! Ordered through doordash without any issues, and the food was still fresh and warm upon delivery! Monday in Kirkwood used to be a "TexMex free dining zone". No longer true. Not only that, Mission serves gluten free taco chips! Two salsas come with the chips and the spicy one warms all the way down. Makes you appreciate that frozen 'Rita you ordered. I ordered 4 of the street Tacos; Duck, Carne Asada, Grilled Chicken and Yucatecan Pork. That last one is a remarkable creation the habanero pickled onions are so good! Tim got a burrito that he said was quite good. The service was excellent, Erika was attentive. I really appreciated her advice to order the chicken taco with the sauce on the side because it had a serious level of heat in it! 3 adults and 2 children ate for $116 + tip. I never seem to know what to order at a Mission Taco Joint. I always love the appetizers and am lukewarm on the tacos and burritos. Plus they are messy. I visited the Kirkwood location for the first time on a Sunday. It was quite busy! Very much a family vibe in here. When you walk in the door on the right they turned the room in front of the old brewhouse into an arcade with skee ball and vintage upright games. I'm all about this! Loved the selection! Did it suck when I had to give some snot nose kid and his dad the side eye when they were bogarting the Pac-Man machine? Yes it did. Clorox wipes would be cool in a situation like this! We got sat after about fifteen minutes at a nice large table. We shared appetizers including the guacamole and the chips & salsa. I ordered the Three Little Piggies Burrito (Slow roasted pork, pork belly carnitas, spicy chorizo, queso, smashed black beans, cilantro rice, pickled onion, and ancho bbq sauce) and asked that they put it in a bowl instead of wrapping it in the tortilla. I also asked for extra pickled onions. Honestly, this was the best thing I've ever eaten at one of these restaurants. Inevitably the taco or burrito is wet and ends up falling apart and you eat it with a fork anyway. Everyone else at the table ordered tacos and they enjoyed them. We made a trip here on Dec. 5th because of the write up in the paper about the Off the Wall pop up they have opened. My wife loves a good corn dog and since we have always had a great time at Mission Taco, I took her for a surprise. The dog was all beef and made with a house made batter. I had the double burger. We enjoyed the adventure of eating in the car since all inside dining is suspended at the moment and it was too cold to eat outside. They were doing quite a lot of business when we arrived and after finding out how to place an order we retreated back to the car to make out on-line order. This is where we started to have problems, as we could not get the on-line order to be accepted. So, back to the restaurant where I was helped and they took my order in person and made sure that the on-line ones had not come thru as well. After waiting 25-30 mins and not receiving the text telling us it was ready, back to the restaurant again ( we were in an adjacent parking lot, so it wasn't a long walk) here I was told hat they would check for me, as they were pretty busy. They then found my order had been ready and was on the bench to be picked up. Because of the delay, the fried onions and fries were not very good, but I'm sure if they were hot they would have been much better. We did enjoy the meal and it was good to get out and support a restaurant that we like. We will go back soon and try something else on the menu. read more

My husband & I went to Mission Taco in Kirkwood Monday. We've been here several times & always enjoyed it. I usually get three of their specialty tacos; there are so many to choose from! This time, we ordered chips & salsa to start. It was a generous serving with two types of salsa. I ordered a pina colada instead of my usual house margarita. It was fantastic! It came with a wedge of fresh pineapple and an agave (or banana?) leaf. The drink had a little extra something that brought out the coconut flavor! My husband ordered a margarita and four tacos: pork carnitas, BLT, fried chicken and front side grind--all delicious choices. He said the pork carnitas taco is probably the best in town! My South Beach burrito was delectable as always, a large helping and grilled. We ate at the bar. The bartender was friendly & attentive. The ambiance is always friendly, comfortable & updated. This place has been very consistent. It's one of our local favorites! I was really happy to see that they use new biodegradable straws! That makes me so happy! Often, a person gets two or three straws at a meal & I worry about where they end up. Thanks for going the extra mile by using these compostable ones! read more

Mission taco opened a location in Kirkwood so we decided to try it for dinner. There is plenty of parking and outdoor seating--it is on the street but still nice when the weather is good. The interior is spacious and the decor is cute and edgy-- a lot of wood carpentry and the benches for the both are metal-- so be prepared if you have shorts on--they are cold! The ambiance is nice-- our server was friendly, polite and efficient. The chips are good and the Margaritas are cold! We had a variety of tacos- all were good- I think we liked the fish the best!
