After going through about 5 other flooring companies who gave me high estimates, I was candid with Josh and he was extremely understanding and happy to work with me. I waited a long time to post this review because I've had really mixed feelings. But the more I live with the flooring the more unhappy I am as I notice more and more. We have a 1200sqft condo and they removed tile floors and carpet, leveled floors (mostly) and installed LVP from a manufacturer they recommended. We had all the work done before we moved in and they were flexible and helpful in scheduling. Once work started, thankfully I decided to drop in to check on the install when I did because there were two workers there that I had never spoken to, neither of the project managers I had spoken to, and they were installing without the underlayment. Then they were going to install the underlayment incorrectly, and I had to pull up a YouTube video to show them how the underlayment was supposed to be installed. (There was also a language barrier as I don't speak Spanish and neither of them spoke English). We did get the project manager on the phone and he came out and got things going the correct way. The other manager who was supposed to be there was just MIA, clearly planned since he got the key to these other guys. They then got the install done and did a really nice job on the baseboard. After they left I noticed they left their pencil markings for cuts all over the floor so I had to go around and clean all those off. This is my first time ever having flooring done, so other than the pencil markings I gave a broad look around and signed off. I didn't know what to look for until now that I've been living in it. All over the house, they put exact patterns from the LVP right next to each other or 1 board away. The longer I'm living with it, and see it right in the middle of our living room, it drives me nuts. I'll need to get some rugs or something, but the more I read about floor install, this seems to be a basic "watch out" that should be part of the process, so I'm really disappointed that this is what we ended up with. read more

I had an excellent experience working with Josh, Kyle and the team at 1st Choice Flooring. I worked with them to install luxury vinyl flooring throughout my 1700 square foot home, as well as install a backsplash in the kitchen. I received about 5 different quotes for the flooring project, and Josh worked with me on pricing making them one of the most competitive quotes I received. The other reason I decided to move forward with them is because Josh made comments and observations during the walk-through that none of the other contractors commented on -- little details I didn't even think about like baseboards in the stairs, needing to cut doors, how to handle the floor outlets, and some other unique aspects of the installation. From the time I signed their estimate to the time of completion, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Josh and Kyle were very professional, friendly, and communicative throughout the entire process. They responded to any questions and concerns I had and they've been responsive even after the project is finished. Josh even gave me his contact for a welder that's been able to help me update my railings who has also been great to work with. We asked 1st Choice Flooring to quote installation of engineered hardwood flooring in our home. This included tearing out existing tile and carpet, and repairing carpet on our stairs. JOSH came to our home, measured and explained the process clearly, and by end of day, he had sent us a quote. The quote was very fair, similar to a quote from another last April Following up on the quote JOSH recommended a brand of flooring, and we agreed to start work pretty quickly. There was never a question that the installation could proceed and complete before the holidays (with desired inventory in stock in LA.) Within a short time, the crews were starting and moving quickly to complete. JOSH and Charlie and all the crews were on the phone with me each day or stopping by to supervise. They were great at answering all my questions, and were of enormous help with all the details. Work completed, it looks beautiful including all new baseboards. First choice flooring did a small job for me. They had to replace the flooring in just one room. I liked the fact that they did not think a small job was not worth their time. The were able to find floors that matched my existing floors. More importantly they were able to apply a gloss finish since the wood planks they were able to source has matte finish. This shows that they are able to tailor their work to meet the needs of the customer. Install was very smooth. I pointed out a few things I like fixed after they were done and they came out to take care of that. One other thing I want to calm out: there was a spot in another part of the home that I wanted them to sand and refinish. Albeit small, they did not nickel and dime me. They were happy to just take care of it. The crew was very respectful. I would hire them again if there is a need. read more

My project was to replace the carpet in my office with Pergo, and to install new carpet in the master bedroom. I purchased the Pergo through Lowe's, since it was the pattern I'd already installed in the rest of the condo. I received several reasonable quotes through Yelp, and decided to go with 1st Choice Flooring. I also received several "not interested" replies. Charlie provided me with the initial estimate. He was willing to match a quote I'd previously gotten, and to work with their supplier to get the carpet I'd selected. 1st Choice was eager to start the job ASAP. Charlie sent me the quote right away, scheduled the job, and answered all my questions promptly. On May 6th, the work began right on time, with Kyle as foreman. They handled the demo and removal of old material efficiently and neatly. I have bi-fold closet doors in both rooms that needed to be removed and reinstalled, as well as several large pieces of furniture to be moved. The Pergo was done that day. On Tuesday the 7th, they finished the carpet installation. Everything looks great, including the closet interiors and the baseboards. Note that the baseboards in the office were new, and needed to be painted. All this was seen to by Kyle. 1st Choice was accommodating regarding the final payment, as well. Josh stopped by to pick up the check once my funds became available. Excellent work, good value, and super nice guys all around. I highly recommend 1st Choice. read more

As a designer myself, I had called in about 5-8 quotes for a small project of about 1200 sq feet. They had to add a close match to the existing engineered wood flooring , already at the residence. The job was going to be hard .. since the new wood was of a different company ( so we were prepared for having the size , thickness and groove cut different from existing. We could not find anywhere the same size and thickness. Josh and his team were selected after a Pre selection of 6 flooring contractors. The second reason it was hard is the staircase noses that came in were of different thickness than the edge trim existing. These guys achieved the desired results ... in a seamless way , that one cannot say it was an add on later. Very patiently , Miguel , the installer ... aligned each nose and flushed it with the existing trim. When initially seeing all of 1st Choice Flooring's reviews, my wife and I decided to use them. However, I do not recommend this company at all. We hired 1st Choice Flooring to remove existing laminate and tile, and then to install LVP. During the project, we saw an unknown black adhesive under the previous flooring and asked 1st Choice Flooring whether this could be asbestos. They assured us that it was not, but we hired a third-party company to confirm and give us peace of mind. The results came back positive for asbestos, but 1st Choice Flooring was not using the proper tools or precautions for dealing with asbestos. We had to put the project to an immediate halt and urgently hire a third-party abatement company to decontaminate our house and to test the air in all the rooms for asbestos. This was an extremely stressful situation, it cost us several thousands of dollars of unexpected expenses that we had to pay for out of our savings, and we lost access to our home for several days. 1st Choice Flooring did not make this situation any better. They lacked professionalism throughout this process, they lacked proper communication, and they refuse to accept full responsibility for the situation they caused. Despite my several follow up attempts to discuss this situation with the owner Josh, 1st Choice Flooring has become non-responsive and refuses to even acknowledge our attempts to contact them. Please save yourselves the stress and go with another company to take care of your flooring needs that will not jeopardize your family's health. Overall, I cannot recommend them. read more

Absolutely horrible!!! Carpet tile lines didn't match up and they wouldn't correct it. Over estimated the required amount of materials by 25% and charged for it. Installed flooring that was too high so my exterior door wouldn't open, then had to tear it all out. Didn't properly waterproof under deck tile so had to tear it out and charged me for it. Installed a sink and faucet that was not per the spec. and still wanted to be paid for it. Terrible workmanship. And more!!! Never, ever, ever, again! read more

We hired 1st choice to replace our carpet and install an LVP floor for our condo in UTC. Josh (owner) gave a competitive quote. Overall the floors turned out decently, but not without several speed bumps along the way. The 3-4 day flooring project that was quoted ended up finishing about 10 days later. This was mostly due to only 1 person (Ernesto) working the job, instead of a team of people I was expecting. An internet cable that was run under the original carpet suddenly became a last minute problem that 1st choice didn't know how to deal with and put down the new floor before dealing with this cable, leaving me to deal with it. The job site was left a mess with tools and trash scattered around our condo, but after mentioning it to the foreman (kyle), the jobsite was cleaned up thereafter. Not long into the project the new floor was installed over unleveled areas of the sub floor, causing the boards to flex and bend heavily when walking on them...only after this obvious defect was pointed out, that area of the floor was then properly leveled. This early issue made me weary and on alert, although I would have preferred smoother experience. read more
