The service was consistently excellent. The staff checked on us frequently and worked together as a team to make sure everyone was taken care of. The French toast sticks, served with three different dipping sauces, were absolutely delicious. During brunch, I was only in the mood for vegetables, so I asked our server if the chef could prepare something that wasn't on the menu. They happily accommodated my request and made me a plate of asparagus for $14, which I really appreciated. When we returned for breakfast, I wanted the avocado toast with a few substitutions. Once again, our server was happy to accommodate my request without any issues. Came here twice now, once for my bridal shower and another time for dinner and their $6 martinis. The ambiance is honestly 10/10 both during the day and at night. It's definitely one of those places that looks beautiful for celebrations, photos, and drinks. My bridal shower experience was actually much better than my dinner experience. The waitress during the shower was attentive and accommodating, and they were really flexible with my bridal party coming early to decorate which I appreciated a lot. Dinner service unfortunately was a different story. We had to ask multiple times before the heater lamps were finally turned on, and our waiter seemed pretty impatient with our table the whole night. We knew they had a $6 martini menu, but they didn't give it to us until we asked, and then only brought one menu for a table of 8 people. The drinks were actually really good and definitely one of the highlights of the night. Food was just okay for me. We ordered the Wagyu on the rocks, crab pasta, and truffle fries. The Wagyu honestly tasted like regular beef, the crab pasta was super bland and tasted like butter noodles with crab, and the truffle fries were decent but nothing memorable. One thing I'm also personally not a fan of is the automatic 22% gratuity. I'd rather be able to decide my own tip based on the service experience. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and was so juicy. It was $75 which is pretty steep but considering the quality, the location, and service I wouldn't mind splurging for it once in a while. The sushi was adequate but was not mind blowing considering the price. For a place doing steak AND sushi, I wouldn't come in expecting them to excel at both. The blue crab pasta was disappointing. It lacked a lot of flavor and I found myself reaching for my friend's rigatoni instead. Don't let the blue crab aspect fool you. Though there is crab in it, it's lackluster in flavor and I wished they added more salt or something else to bring out the crab. The drinks were great though and they were very aesthetically pleasing. The service was very kind. Our party accidentally dropped a plate and 3 waiters came and thoroughly cleaned it up and made sure there were no shards anywhere in the vicinity. I want to lead with a massive shoutout to our server, Sam. He was phenomenal, personable, and truly did his best to take care of us. He made sure to introduce himself to the table and kept a great attitude, despite it being clear that he was being overworked. I in no way blame him for how the evening unfolded. Unfortunately, the management of our service was disappointing. We arrived for a 7:30 PM reservation hoping for a nice dinner before heading to the bar for drinks, but the poor pacing turned our dinner into a grueling 3 1/2 hour affair. It was nearly impossible to track anyone down for a second round of drinks, and the gaps between our courses were incredibly long. Even after we finished our entrees, it took about an hour just to receive a dessert menu. By the time 10:45 PM rolled around, we were just exhausted and ready to leave. On a positive note, the food genuinely impressed me. We tried a variety of items, including the kampachi crudo, bluefin tuna pizza, octopus, the protein roll, and the lobster caviar special-everything was well-executed and delicious. It's a shame, because the combination of great food and a top tier server should have made for a perfect birthday. However, the lack of support from management for our server and the glacial pace of the meal really ruined the atmosphere for our celebration. Our food came out surprisingly quickly, and everything was amazing. The spicy octopus appetizer is one of my favorites, and Max suggested ordering it extra crispy. I didn't think it could get any better, but it absolutely did! We also loved the kanpachi crudo as always, the steak was cooked perfectly, the patatas bravas were delicious, and my two friends couldn't stop talking about the Brussels sprouts. The Green Envy is an iconic drink--super refreshing with beautiful presentation. This was our first time sitting inside, and we loved the ambiance. The dim lighting, high ceilings, and open doors made the space feel comfortable and inviting. We've also sat outside before, and the atmosphere there has been just as enjoyable. The first two times we visited, the restaurant was extremely busy and dealing with some technical issues. We were celebrating special occasions both times, so the experiences weren't as seamless as we had hoped. However, last night was absolutely perfect. I believe they require a CC to book online. Unfortunately the food is where we fell the short coming. We ordered the artichoke dip for our appetizer. It came hot but with a lot less bread than the dip. We did get a fresh refill of the bread after. The dip was good and also not okay. Maybe its a preference, but the tomatoes didn't feel like they meshed well here. I confirmed the burger was halal meat, so I ordered it without bacon. It was missing all sorts of basic taste. I think having a burger seasoned makes a difference. This was one of the most bland burgers I have ever had. It looked a lot better than it tasted. For someone who saved her appetite to come here, I was barely able to even finish half. I ended up filling up on my fries with ranch instead. Honestly, I was hoping for a wow factor but this place disappointed. The ceasar salad was also ordered on the table and I had a bite. It was not pleasant. The only saving grace would be the steak. Almost gave this location 1 star. But our server was the best. She made the experience so nice after being seated and gave us a complimentary side due to our long wait. We had reservations and this was our first time here so we didn't know it was valet only. $15 for three hours with restaurant validation. We had to wait 40 min to be seated, only to be seated at the worst spot with no view just a big wall next to us and small table. I requested a different table before we sat down because there was no way my birthday dinner and first experience was going to be looking at a wall crammed in a tiny table. We had to wait an additional 25 min so an hour of wait WITH reservations. Multiple customers were experiencing the same issue. The hotel itself is breathtaking and very greenery and just rich vibes. Everyone was dressed casual but date nice casual. The best part was the food The Mac n cheese bites were amazing and the sauce was so good that comes with the bites. The mushrooms were one of my favorite items and next time I will be adding it to my pasta. Their mocktail the orange oasis was so refreshing. I will be coming back for brunch because how great their dinner was. Thank god for the server being so amazing she deserves a big raise. read more

Rating: 3.5/5 -- A nice date night spot to try for the first time, but not too sure if I would come back again. The service was amazing. They were always checking in on us, clearing our tables, and helping us whenever we had any questions. They even gave us a free cheesecake for my boyfriend and I's anniversary. The drinks were also great. I loved the Baby Maker and definitely recommend to anyone. However, the food was just okay. We got the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio ($21), Dry Aged NY Steak ($75), Sushi Set ($50), and Steak Fried Rice ($16). The steak was pretty chewy/not juicy, the sushi was fine (feel like it's more for aesthetic), and the rice for the fried rice seemed like it was made the day-of. I'm hoping we maybe just tried the wrong food because we really enjoyed the carpaccio though. We made reservations in advance and got seated within 15 minutes of checking in. For parking, it is valet and $15 once you get it validated by the restaurant. read more

I don't normally take my family out to a new restaurant unless I've tried it myself but this time I took a risk and SET did NOT dissapoint . Located at the lobby of the Pentry Hotel, SET has both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was immaculate, from the moment you exit your vehicle, valet and servers were very attentive. Inside SET, the food was incredible. Wish I could have walked into the kitchen to thank the chef myself. Blur fin tuna pizza 101/10 Spicy Grilled octopus 10/10 Surf & turf roll 10/10 PNB roll 10/10 Chefs perfect set (STEAK SET) 10/10 French fries 10/10 Patatas bravas 10/10 Fried rice 10/10 Didn't mention that they validate parking! SET used to be our spot--we came here every week when it first opened. The food was always incredible. Where else can you find tuna pizza? And Peking duck and steaks? The menu has always been unique, and everything was consistently delicious. The ambiance has always been five stars. The reason we stopped coming had nothing to do with the food. Our dinner bills were often over $2,000, and then we'd still have to pay expensive parking on top of that. Spending that much on dinner and then getting hit with a huge parking fee just felt rude. On top of that, the service had become painfully slow, so we eventually stopped coming. Recently, we decided to give it another try, and I'm so glad we did. Parking is much more reasonably priced now, and the service was absolutely outstanding. I'm not sure if it was because it was the Fourth of July and things weren't too busy, but everyone took amazing care of us. Every dish we ordered was delicious, and for the birthday celebration they brought out the spectacular candles that looked more like fireworks. It made the night even more memorable. We'll definitely be coming back. My only wish is that they'd bring back my favorite dessert--the beautiful blue passion fruit dessert. It was truly a work of art and, in my opinion, one of the best desserts in town. I'd order it every single visit if they brought it back. read more

I've been to Set for brunch twice now, and the ambiance is absolutely beautiful. It's such a gorgeous space, but I'm not sure if I'll be back based on the food. Overall, I'd give the food about a 6/10. Unfortunately, nothing we tried had that "wow" factor. The PNB sushi roll and tuna pizza were probably the best items we ordered. The pasta is super colorful and looks beautiful, but it was surprisingly lacking in flavor. The burger was also a bit on the dry side, although the French fries with the truffle aioli were probably the best item overall. The drinks, on the other hand, were delicious! The Baby Maker was definitely my favorite. Our waiter was super friendly and provided great service. The only downside was that our food took quite a while to come out. Set has such a beautiful atmosphere and great drinks, but I just wish the food had more flavor and that something really stood out. read more

I've wanted to visit Set forever, so we finally went yesterday for an early Valentine's celebration. It's located inside the Pendry, and parking is valet only (or you can walk over from Fashion Island across the street). We had reservations and were seated right away. At first, the service felt great--our server and the hostesses were super friendly--but the vibe quickly shifted and started to feel a bit like a car dealership We ordered the bluefin tuna pizza (to die for) and the vegan sushi roll, which was also really tasty. For entrées, I got the blue crab pasta and my husband ordered a steak... and that's when things started going downhill. Our server basically shamed him for the steak he chose, saying it wasn't a good cut and that he needed to order one of the $100+ options instead. We've been to plenty of steakhouses and have never experienced anything like that. When my husband explained he only wanted the 8 oz because he wasn't very hungry, the server pushed again, insisting the 16 oz was the "perfect" size for a meal. He was also pushing hard for the $225 couples Waygu special as soon as we sat down. Not sure if they have a steak commission going on here but it sure felt like it. I was honestly in shock, and my husband was just confused. He ended up ordering a different steak that was still more expensive than the original one, and you could tell the server still wasn't thrilled. Overall, really weird vibes. Beautiful place to sit outside, but very cold and windy out. And the plates had dust and leaves around it. Service was good, but towards the middle and end it was okay. Simple Caesar salad. I do wish it has more crunchy lettuce. Peking duck, it was good, but the wrap for it was not my favorite. It was tough with the tender duck. Green goddess sushi was good, but the mint was overpowering for me. I liked the presentation of the sushi set. Fish was okay to me. I wished the Mac and cheese sticks flavors was better. It just tasted like pasta without seasoning. Brussels sprouts were salty. Fried rice was flavorful, but very oily. Steak was good. Branzino fish by itself was tasty, but I did not enjoy the sauce.
