We've been to this Nick's many times. Our favorite Nick's is South of Nick's in Laguna. But for local lunches love this location. Parking is not easy unless you wish to valet. But today we were surprised. We usually enjoy the SEA BASS and the wedge salad. Today we had the wedge salad and it was outstanding as always. And of course the always excellent service and today we enjoyed Vincent's attention - he's been with Nick's for almost two years at various locations but his experience and expertise made this a very enjoyable visit. Today we tried the steak for a change. A NY Strip grilled medium-rare and cooked perfectly. But the steak was not up to Nick's typical standards of excellence. We stopped halfway through the meal and told Vincent about our complaint. A medium-rare steak should be juicy and this one was dry and tasted "new" not aged. It has no flavor and I'm pretty sure that comes with aging. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a gift card the next day that comped our lunch - a very pleasant surprise. read more

Came here for a date night, the place is pretty busy so make sure to get your reservations in days in advance! The parking lot looks small but there is plenty of parking out back as well. I didn't see a valet service for this past Saturday evening so I am unsure if they offer it. It gets pretty loud inside so be prepared to speak up if you're trying to get a decent convo in. Plenty of bar seating as well as outdoor. We decided to sit inside since it was a pretty warm day out. It did get a bit cozy inside as well. Our server was Jared and he did a great job. It was so busy but he somehow always made sure our waters were topped off and we had everything we needed. The asparagus fries are a must try, thick and crunchy, the ranch pairs so well with them too. The buttermilk biscuit plate offers a decent amount of food with two slices of chicken that are so juicy with every bite. The gravy was surprisingly well seasoned too. This became our third Nick's Store and I gotta say, it's probably my favorite! Our Patio table was perfect during our sunny Wednesday afternoon visit and the bar area looks really nice. Inside, some of the seating in the back looks a little dark, but it's probably comfortable. We visit Nick's on Lake in Pasadena and they have flatbread that we don't see at Nick's on 2nd in Long Beach. This Newport Beach location has Sushi Rolls, so we tried a couple and they were delicious. Great shared item for 2-4 people, and maybe even a meal for some. They had a Corn Chowder that was absolutely delicious! We also had the Deviled Eggs and were split... I loved them but my wife was not at all happy because they were mustard forward. So I got 3 of the 4! Service, from Bria, was exceptional. She was super lovely to acknowledge my birthday and I had a super tasty chocolate cake. It was rich, moist! I probably shouldn't have finished it, but it was TOO good! 100% recommend this location and will try to return when we are in the area. read more

Ordered for pickup on a weekend evening, was quoted a 45 minute wait but it only took 25 minutes to complete my order! I chose the prime rib dip sandwich with fries, and split the spicy rigatoni and warm butter cake with a friend. The spicy rigatoni could've been saucier, but it also could've dried out on the drive home. It had great heat and flavor and I appreciated that the sauce wasn't too thin. The prime rib dip with the au jus was an absolute STAR, super thin slices of juicy meat, buttery bun, and savory au jus on the side (not watery at ALL). Crispy fries were a great accompaniment, didn't even need ketchup. Lastly, the warm butter cake was really tasty! I enjoyed the berry sauce and the buttery crumb of the cake. Mastro's is still king, but Nick's is a more than satisfactory runner up. Overall, would definitely come back to try out the rest of the menu. read more

Came here last night and had a phenomenal time. The service was great, the host was kind and asked us about our days. Our waitress checked on us consistently and made sure we were happy and never needed refills. I wish I had gotten her name because she was great! Everyone there was kind and helpful! The food was amazing. The Chilean Sea Bass here is my favorite!! I dream of their whipped potatoes. Also, by far the best place to get butter cake. It was soooo good. My 4.5 yr old son and I enjoy going out to dinner but I'm occasionally stuck with where we can go that isn't a place we eat all the time. I called up Nick's to find out if they had anything for kids and they have an unpublished kids' menu. The choices we were offered for the kids menu included: grilled chicken, chicken fingers, salmon, mini ribs, mini steak, buttered noodles and a grilled cheese sandwich. All options included carrots and French fries. In addition to the kids meal, my son and I shared the asparagus fries. He loved them. I loved them. They were very tasty with the buttermilk ranch. I also ordered the Chilean sea bass which came with a salty spinach salad with almond slivers, mashed potatoes and a little bit of burre blanc sauce, although it was thin and could use more. Overall, it was a tasty meal and service was good. I taught the hosts why you don't seat a 4 yr old in a high table (fall risk) so we were seated immediately at a normal table. We'll likely come back next time we need a change from our usual rotation of restaurants. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Nick's last week. We started with Stephanie who was covering for a server on break. Then our server came and introduced herself. I can't remember her name but it started with a C I think. They were both great servers and gave amazing recommendations! All the food was delicious, but you HAVE to try their French Onion Soup. The vibe was very good too. Busy enough to have all tables occupied, but not too packed to where you can't walk in and have to reserve in advance. We came late on a Saturday though. Super tender and juicy, and the au jus is chefs kiss. The french fries were a little undercooked but I've been to the Pasadena location and it was not. Must have been an off day but all good. Bread 10/10. Not on the menu but this is what they had when we asked for bread and butter. It was amazing! the inside of the bread is pre-soaked in garlic butter. Bistro Plate 8/10. I love small portions with variety in general so this was perfect. The filet was just ok, but the salad was amazing. The soup of the day was creamy french onion, it was good but it might be an acquired taste that I haven't acquired. I didn't love it as much as I would have liked tomato soup. We had a girls night here - we don't get together often but when we do we try to pick out fun places. Nick's was absolutely amazing. The drinks were wonderful. It's a lively atmosphere, but still quiet enough to talk. We got the Coco Rita, Hugo Spritz and an Old Fashioned. For dinner crispy rice with spicy tuna appetizers (a must) and the prime dip and salmon (perfectly cooked) and a salad. Everything was delicious. A shared butter cake for dessert (another must). The unexpected highlight about our evening was our server Kirby - she was the best waitress we've ever had (not exaggerating). She was personal and funny and kept us laughing the whole night. I have an avocado allergy. I ordered the crispy rice with ahi, and it arrived with avocado, but it was not listed as an ingredient on the menu. The chef refused to make it without the avocado. Nick's is a great spot for date night! The ambiance and atmosphere is superb. Located in the same plaza as Kit coffee, Juliette's cafe and salt & straw, so there's plenty of parking. Service is excellent! We started with a round of drinks and the manager brought over asparagus fries which were delicious 10/10! For food my husband ordered the fried chicken which came highly recommended and he was not disappointed. It comes with mashed potatoes and biscuits, a true comfort meal. I order Seabass at almost any restaurant if they have it and the Seabass at Nick's was amazing! It was buttery and cooked to perfection. Comes with mashed potatoes and cooked spinach. We ended the night with espresso martinis and ice cream sundae, both delicious! We'd love to come back for lunch. read more

It was noisy but loved the design and layout of the main room. Our waiter couldn't have been nicer, limited wine list but reasonable corkage fee. A great example of what a special rest. can be at a reasonable price. Parking in Newport location can be a problem but at 7 pm on a Saturday was easy. My wife and I really loved this restaurant. Beautiful restaurant with dark woods and moody lighting. Acoustics were loud in the bar area but not too bad in the surrounding dining room. There's also a large covered patio. There's a lot of things in this plaza so parking is random luck but they have valet if you can't find a spot. Mai Tai here is a unique twist with a frothy foam on top infused with Li Hing Mui powder. I really enjoyed their take on it and liked the artistry of the paper thin pineapple slice. My wife and I both got the $28 combo plate that included a petite filet mignon, soup of the day, and salad. Was the perfect portion and was a great deal given the quality. Absolutely loved their version of French Onion Soup. Was thick like a bisque with concentrated caramelized onion flavor. Truly delicious! Filet was cooked to perfection with a great seasoning rub.
