For a place that has ridiculously high prices...it is the worst experience ever. I have had much better food and a much better experience at other places of the same value and standard. They want you to get all dressed up and classy, for NOTHING!!!! People are there after they workout or go play golf...people are dressed in jeans and a tank top, when they explicitly sent me a notification about their "strict" dress code and they have a sign out front. We came for my husband birthday. We order a lot of things off the menu to get the best of both worlds. We ordered the rhode island calamari and shrimp, the baked potato, shells and cheese, the sea scallops, and the NY strip steak. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium well, it was served to us basically raw. They offered to recook it, but at this point we were over the "experience". We waited an hour for dinner, so no I did not want to wait any longer for a new steak. The quality and food did not meet up to the standards or prices. You will have a much better experience going somewhere else, and enjoy your food more. read more

Visited Ocean 48 with very high expectations, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing overall. The restaurant presents itself as a luxury dining destination, yet the food quality simply didn't match the premium prices. The ribeye steak was especially underwhelming honestly at a level you'd expect from a much more basic restaurant, not a high-end steakhouse. For the prices they charge, I expected a far better culinary experience. On the positive side, the branzino was very good, and the Caesar salad was also well prepared. The dessert, however, was average and forgettable. The atmosphere is nice, but mainly around the bar area. If you're not seated there, the restaurant loses a lot of its energy and vibe, which affects the overall experience. Bottom line: very disappointing considering the reputation and pricing. This is one of my top favorite steakhouses I've been to. I had made reservations ahead of time for my birthday. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed and seated immediately. We sat right next to the pool which made our experience even better. The interior and exterior of this restaurant was beautiful. Everything was clean and organized. Our waiter and the manager were both great servers. Despite it being busy, they were able to get us everything we needed. They were continually checking in on us making sure everything was going smoothly. They also gave our table a couple complimentary desserts. The crab and lobster easily slide out of the shells. The shrimps were huge, sweet, and delicious! The cap steak was a special item and it was incredibly tender. The ambience of this restaurant is beautiful. It's pretty dim lit inside, they have a great bar area, which is always full. They have a lower deck in an upper deck. Plenty of seating. Last night we ordered Appetizers: Colossal shrimp cocktail, and the Caesar salad. They allow us to split appetizers at no cost - so great! main entrée we both got the 12 ounce petite filet mignon Oscar style. Sides: bacon, brussels sprouts and also the corn crème brûlée which is my fave!! They have the Valet for $10 but there's plenty of parking in the parking area. Service was warm and welcoming. I appreciate they had a solid zero proof menu as we were doing dry January. The zero proof cocktails were refreshing and tasty! this is a to-go review. Bone-In Ribeye - 6/10: Lots of potential here, but fell a bit short, perhaps due to it being a to-go order. I ordered medium rare, but it came much rarer than expected. Not a huge deal since I could reheat it at home, but the bigger issue was that the steak was significantly under-seasoned. Truffle Fries - 8/10: Excellent flavour. Herbaceous with a strong truffle presence. Definitely a highlight of the meal. Elote Creme Brulee - 7/10: Sweet and creamy. Probably would have been better eaten in-restaurant, as the brulee top likely softened during transit. Nothing wrong with it, just not particularly exciting. Chicken Fried Lobster - 9/10: A standout dish for me. Southern fried chicken-style breading on lobster. Super flavourful and perfectly crisp. Loved this. Crab Cakes - 9/10: Another highlight. They first serve you with complimentary bread that is flaky outside but soft and buttery inside. Served, and most likely, baked on the mini iron skillet. Sooo good!! For starters we got the Fanny Bay oysters, yumm! And Steak Knife BLT Wedge salad. It was fresh, delish and refreshing! For mains we got the Bone-In Ribeye 22oz, which is well seasoned and cooked to perfection! Didn't enjoy the Chilean Sea Bass much ... wish I'd gotten something else. A side of Boursin Whipped Potatoes, which is also good! For sweet endings, we got the Small Beignet Tree, which are beignets served on a sort of jewelry tree display. I had my first "48" experience at Steak 48 in Beverly Hills back in September. What stood out to my husband and me was the service AND the food. Ocean 48 did not disappoint. As the name suggests, there are more seafood options at Ocean 48. I had the scallop entree and added crispy shrimp on top--phenomenal. The scallops were butter and melted in my mouth. They were some of the best scallops I have ever had. They also did a fine job with the clam chowder. Their starter bread are these delicious biscuits in a cast iron pan. Be careful! These things are addicting, and if you're not careful, you'll load up an be too full for your main course. Ocean 48 had excellent sides--the shells and cheese, mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts were outstanding! Overall, this was an excellent meal. We made reservations and requested to sit next to their indoor reflection pool which was a nice touch. While we waited for our table we checked out their glass-enclosed kitchen where we watched the chefs work. We started off the meal with complimentary bread which was flaky and crispy on the outside. It was butter-y but we asked for even more. DAILY FRESH OYSTERS ($22) - we ordered two blue point and two miyagi oysters which were good. They brought out a variety of sauces to pair with them. 4/5 CAVIAR CONES ($150 for 4) - they were tiny and bite-sized but were good. They were pricey but they were a nice treat. 4/5 CRISPY SHRIMP ($31) - these were crispy, creamy, and a tad spicy. They were so addicting and one of my favorites! This is definitely a must-get. 5/5 KING CRAB + SHRIMP + SHELLS + CHEESE ($52) - this was flavorful and creamy. It was priced a bit too high for me and I thought it could've had more portions of crab but I understand it's expensive. Everything else about it was amazing though. 4.5/5 45 DAY DRY AGE BONE-IN RIBEYE ($105) - this was also so flavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked. There were no additional toppings or flavorings needed. I've eaten a lot of restaurant steaks and this was one of the best restaurant steaks I've had in a long time. 5/5 CORN CRÈME BRÛLÉE ($21) - I've never had this before and it's one of their most popular dishes. It was sweet from both the corn and the brûlée. Its flavor profile was mostly sweet but helped to offset the saltiness of the other dishes. For those with a sweet tooth this is really good. I thought it was good but not as much as the others. 4/5 For drinks, the orange and rye ($21) was spirit forward. Both the California citrus ($21) and strawberry rhubarb ($20) were fruity, refreshing, and tart. For our dessert we got the lou lou's homemade cookies & cream gelato cake ($18) which was a massive portion and also delicious. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and taken to our table, where the host brought us an envelope wishing us a happy anniversary from the general manager and the team, followed by our server congratulating us as well as the assistant server. Definitely was not expecting that but we appreciated greatly. Our server began by going over the drink menu and making recommendations, my wife went with the Seaside Margarita and I went with the New York Sour. Both were delicious, and those became the drink of the night. We got the ball rolling on appetizers and got the Yellowtail Himachi and the colossal bone marrow. Both were delicious and when they say colossal, be prepared because it's HUGE. Once we got to the entrees and sides we ordered the Golden New York Strip Wagyu, the Seared Ahi Tuna, Boursin cheese whipped potatoes, and the king crab + shrimp + shells + cheese. When I tell you everything was incredible I'm not exaggerating. The food was so so so good. Moving on to dessert! We ordered the Peanut butter pie, and the key lime pie which was complimentary (really nice of them to do that) the creamy-ness and the flavor were way above our expectations. The peppers were cooked/baked perfectly. However they got too complicated with it. It just wasn't it. I wouldn't order this again. King crab legs. I mean what's not to like? King crab and butter. Quality dining worth every cent. I made reservations for my brother's birthday and from the moment I made my online reservation. I was contacted twice to ensure that they had all the details necessary to make the dinner celebration a special and memorable time. Fom the moment we arrived onto the property valet was offered, and a doorman stood in the front to welcome us into the establishment. After confirming our reservations with the hostess, we were seated promptly and were given in my opinion the best table in the dining room, which was right next to the fireplace right in front of the beautiful pool. There were six of us and two of those were young kids and the staff went out of their way to make everyone, including the kids, feel comfortable and well taken care of. Normally, when we dine with our kids, the wait staff typically does not interact with our kids, but the staff here really made my kids feel accepted and a part of the dinner celebration. Our main server was Aubrey and she was absolutely phenomenal. She was funny, professional, knowledgeable, and created the perfect experience for my family. Since this was our first time dining at Ocean 48. Aubrey took the time to walk us through the menu and provided the specials and most popular entrées. Her attentiveness and flow of the courses were perfect, and my brother felt so special and the food was exquisite. We ordered a lot of things and for me what stood out was the Branzino and the yellowtail crudo although everything was absolutely delicious. My bone in KC strip was very plentiful at 18 ounces which I requested to be medium rare. Every bite was flavorful from the outside crust and tender beef. What can I say about this place? Well first the service is amazing! Very attentive and one of the workers there gave us a tour of the restaurant after we had dinner. They had private tables that were off the glass kitchen and you could see into the kitchen while they were working. Kinda like Hells Kitchen. No extra cost to you just need to ask for the view. They also have the pool room that was very intimate and quiet to where it was easier to hear your party. Then the whiskey room. Wish I got more pictures. Now let's move onto the food. We had the thick cut hanging bacon. What can I say it's bacon so it's going to be great anyway. But this was thick cut and had a delicious glaze on it. Next we had oysters on a half shell. Again very good and they had several different sauces, champagne mignonette and one other. All amazing and the oysters also came with lemon, and hot sauce as well. Deeeeeelicious! My boyfriend and I went here for my birthday and our anniversary and we had the greatest experience. The service, food, and ambiance were all 10/10. Jason was truly the best ! He gave us amazing recommendations and all of the food was delicious. The food came out quick we were shocked at how fast the service was, we sat down and our food came in less than 10 minutes. We got the zero proof Passionfruit Margarita to drink and to eat we ordered the australian tajima wagyu filet, lobster tail, corn creme brûlée, and mashed potatoes. All amazing, Jason said it would be the best steak we've tried and he wasn't wrong, that was the best steak we've ever had !! When I heard that Ocean 48 was considered the "next generation" concept of the same family that founded the OG Mastro's restaurants..I HAD TO TRY IT! Mastros has always been my #1 fav steakhouse hands down..mmm..that buttercake drools (The Capital Grille in Costa Mesa a close second)..until now. Dare I say that Ocean 48 officially took its top spot in my books?!?! Ocean 48 is located in Fashion Island, by Red O. It is definitely an upscale, luxurious fine-dining steak & seafood restaurant in Newport Beach. Known for its high-quality ingredients, vibrant and elegant atmosphere, it surely is an experience you must try for yourself. As you walk up to the restaurant, the waterfall wall is very Mastros déjà vu. As you enter the restaurant, the elaborate show kitchen is on full display with the array of fresh seafood for your viewing pleasure. I had made a rezo for my birthday family celebration on OpenTable for an early 6:15 pm dinner slot on a Monday, yet it was still pretty poppin'/busy. The staff at the check-in counter was friendly and seated us fairly quickly. We were ultimately seated in the fancy Scotch room..which decor-wise, looked cool. The dress code is strictly enforced, as I got a couple text & email reminders..so heads up. I've seen pics of an indoor reflection pool too, on their website, however, I didn't get a glimpse of it in person..darn..next time. The complementary bread is like crack..sooo yums! Pro tip: Ask for butter..it's clutch. My daughter & I decided to start our meal by sharing a New England clam chowder, which they kindly split into 2 portions (for no extra charge). The hubs and I also got the colossal shrimp cocktail app. At a hefty price of $13 EACH, we just tried one each. While it was pretty big and juicy sweet, idk if I'd pay that price again. My son and I wanted to try the raw oysters, but at $5 a pop, uhhh..we'll pass. EMC seafood (and other seafood restaurants) is much cheaper for A DOZEN! My mini-me and I also decided to share a 22 oz ribeye (medium rare of course..which they also offered to split into 2 portions, which makes it very convenient) and my hubs & son each got the filet mignon cut. The family all shared the many yummy sides ~ corn crème brûlée (which was melt in your mouth BOMB, roasted brussel sprouts w/ bacon (which I thought was meh..I could've done without or chosen something else) and sautéed wild mushrooms (which was quite flavorful). Since it was my birthday, the restaurant gave me a sweet HBD card and let me choose a dessert of my choice, as a special treat ~ at the end of the meal. The fam & I all shared the triple layer key lime pie. It wasn't rich at all and perfectly citrusy. Think cheesecake/pie like consistency. It melted it my mouth. Ambiance is the best in town. Service is above expectations. Food was excellent. I have to say, this is exactly what you are looking and paying for. The restaurant was at fully capacity, including the bar on a Wednesday evening. My favorite is Steak 48 in Del Mar. This location focuses more on seafood as Del Mar is more steak. What do you get when you cross fried chicken with Maine lobster tails? Quite possibly one of the best seafood dinners you'll remember for a long time. Oceans 48 features unique surf and turf creations along with a most sumptuous, elegant vibe, as evidenced by its raw bar display and poolside centerpiece in their dining room that greets you upon entering the space. The restaurant is located in Fashion Island with plenty of parking, although valet is also available for $10. We started off with the Chicken Fried Maine Lobster Tails which is exactly how it's described. Crispy fried breading, reminiscent of your favorite Southern fried chicken, surrounding succulent lobster tail, what more could you ask for? The Torched Scallops with Caviar Crudo is also an amazing, with an explosion of delicious umami flavors. For our main, we got the 22 oz. bone-in rib eye which was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and served on a hot plate. Fun fact, the owners of Ocean 48 are the original owners of Mastro's, so you can expect to find the similar level of quality that you might remember in the past (not talking about these days, but that's a story for another day.) Alongside that we ordered the Corn Creme Brûlée and Boursin Cheese Whipped Potatoes, both of which made excellent accompaniments. Our servers were lovely and gave impeccable service with their attentiveness and personable table side manners. Always a 5-star experience when I come to Ocean48. This is easily my favorite restaurant. The service is consistently top tier and the attention to detail never disappoints. My go-to favorites are the caviar cones, A5 Japanese wagyu, and the creamed corn..all absolutely incredible. I also love that the plates come out sizzling and keep the food hot right at the table. Elegant and mystical vibe. Fantastic place for a romantic dinner with a special someone or if you're looking to wine and dine some family members and/or close friends that may be visiting from out of state. The seating is arranged around a center pool, lit pool, which reflects gentle water ripples throughout the room. Sooooo dreamy. The food was also fantastic. And the presentation of each dish was even more impressive especially the bone marrow. Here's what we tried. 1. Colossal roasted bone marrow: MUST order!!!!! To be honest it's not much bone marrow (maybe 4-6 pieces at most) but the show is worth the order. Seasoned with black truffle aioli and three cheese toast. 2. Superfood salad: fantastic salad. Waiter actually split our dishes into two plates as he noticed we were sharing everything (very thoughtful!). Base was baby lettuce with mixed berries (blueberries and blackberries-my fav), creamy goat cheese, Sriracha, sunflower seeds topped with champagne fig dressing ...yummy. Must order. 3. Wild caught Hokkaido Island sea scallops: you get six jumbo sized scallops. Perfectly cooked and juicy with light flavoring. 4. Several choices for craveable sides: we chose the shell + cheese (Mac n cheese with shell pasta) and sautéed wild mushrooms (lightly seasoned with parsley and thyme). Both sides were phenomenal especially the mushrooms. Please get the mushrooms. Oh yes they also serve Parker house rolls which were delicious. Overall very good food. We actually dined here over the Holidays for our Anniversary and we had a really nice time! They were extremely organized in getting people seated even though it was crowded with Reservations. Our Server was amazing and explained items on the menu in detail and recommendations. The Salmon, Chilean Sea Bass and Crab Cakes were all delicious! The sides were good but the Shells and Cheese was just ok. Nice vibe and beautiful ambience for any occasion, will return again soon! read more
