Ortolano Panini, yummy roasted veges, cheeeeeese, and nice soft bread!

I'm saddened to be lowering my review. I am a long time patron of this business. I visited the other day and was surprised to see a complete overhaul of the menu. They have cut probably about 60% of the menu options, including the shrimp pesto, one of my favorites. They also changed the recipe of the carbonara, which I find mind boggling since it was one of the best in DC before. Their new fake carbonara apparently doesn't have onions, cream, or garlic???? That's not even legit carbonara anymore. The server we had at the bar was AMAZING, answering all of our questions, making me a great Aperol spritz as always, and getting the chef to make me the carbonara the old way (perfection..!). But I won't be returning to this location. Apparently DuPont circle still has the old and complete menu. I also have to mention that they changed the pizza. At least the happy hour one. It's thicker and still pretty good but very different from what it was. The server told us they couldn't sustain the old menu due to lack of business but I think this reduced menu will be the nail in the coffin, I'm sad to say :( just not enough options and so many great dishes gone. Again, I'm a long time patron not planning to return unless they at least bring back the old carbonara.

Food is average and the ambiance is simple. They have a bar and plenty of seating. The food was not the best Italian in town. I did get a cake for my birthday and it was great. Service is a bit slow but he was very professional and helpful.

Cute spot. Came here after an improv show. Ordered a few items, which were all pretty good. We ordered the bread, and high was definitely dry... and didn't come with any sauce so we had to ask for marinara. Marinara should automatically come with the bread tbh. We also ordered the meatballs and they were okay. They reminded me of chef boyardi canned meatballs, small and not too flavorful. The fries were good and the fried corn balls were good. Overall, it was pretty decent. The food we ordered was okay but nothing too special. The service was okay. We came toward closing time, so I feel like the staff were in the middle of cleaning. There was ample seating both at the bar and in the restaurant. Looked like it gets busy!

Visited for the first time, due to being in the area for an event. Stopped by during happy hour, which is honored at the bar and outside. Ordered the Caesar salad, sliders, fries and pizza to split with a friend. Everything was delicious, along with the drinks. We had their versions of a mule and a spicy mezcal margarita. The service was fast and attentive. I was surprised the establishment was so empty. I will definitely return.

I've gone here for brunch and dinner and have enjoyed myself both times! This is your typical Italian place, it's easy to get a reservation and the servers are accommodating of needs. It can get a little loud inside but it's fun!

    Brunch!

Delicious food and a beautiful atmosphere. We were in a group of about 15 people and we were served pretty reasonably. It took a little long to place the order, but it came quick. They do a great job for brunch with unlimited mimosa service and delicious sweet breads. But obviously at an Italian restaurant I also had to order pasta. The Bolognese lunch portion was delicious. They did charge for the fortune which I didn't notice until after we left. I will definitely be returning.

I decided to revisit this restaurant after a bad experience from a year prior. The AC was out, which was a hindrance, but the Restaurant did the best to work with our large group. Overall, I would say my opinion of the food improved significantly. I ordered one of the brunch, entrées, specifically the egg white omelette. It was absolutely delicious, I ate every bite and completely enjoyed it. What was missing, though was the service aspect. Our server was mostly absent despite our large table size and the restaurant being mostly empty. At first, we were somewhat joking about not seeing them often, but after waiting about 20 or so minutes to order, someone actually had to get up from the table to ask if we could order...and even that after that, we didn't see our server for another 15 or so minutes. This was a trend that continued...empty glasses sat empty until we could get someone's attention--we were sat in the very back so it felt like while we weren't directly being ignored, we were in a sense being ignored. So, despite thinking the food was great, service again was just an absolute huge miss for me. For how empty the restaurant, it's a little baffling why we didn't receive better service.

Stopped by Sette Osteria for brunch with friends during Howard Homecoming weekend. Forgot to take photos of the food I had such a great time. We sat inside as our group was on the larger end with 8 people. Restaurant decor was modern with lots of windows to bring in natural light during the day. Our water Oz was friendly and attentive. Handled every request we threw his way and then some. My friends tend to be demanding especially when food is involved . We opted for bottomless drinks at $20 pp I think it may be the cheapest in the city! You can choose unlimited mimosas or Bellinis. Apps we selected were arancini, and a couple of Cesar salads. Entrees were spicy rigatoni and crab cake sandwich. The pasta was great but the crab cake sandwich really surprised me. Not only full of crab meat but amazing flavor. My friends ordered an assortment of other pastas I don't recall but everyone enjoyed the food.

Authentic Italian Cuisine found in Washington, DC here at Sette Osteria! A cozy atmosphere to enjoy your meal consisting of fantastic entrees and cocktails!

My experience was amazing. From the time we walked in the door everyone showed great customer service. I hosted a friendsgiving there and had a box of gifts. They put them in a safe place until I needed them. The server was on point .... we never had to look for her. The manager was great. He had such great energy and came to check on us throughout the evening. He was a 10/10. Lastly the food was great!!!! I found my new spot.

This restaurant…read morewas recommended to me by a colleague so I decided to make the walk from where I am currently staying. Let me start by saying that the atmosphere in this restaurant is one that is so welcoming the minute you arrive. I approached the hostess stand to inquire if there was bar seating available to which the polite hostesses provided a gentle hand gesture and oral direction to the bar. While walking to the bar area, I encountered what I presume to have been a server who was likely standing watch from a distance over his service area, who apologized as our paths met. (There was no reason to apologize, very polite nonetheless) I found a seat at the bar and was greeted by Paul. Paul was an exceptionally pleasant and answered all my immediate questions while preparing my initial cocktail during happy hour. We discussed the menu and he provided great insight which helped finalize my decision for the evening . In the meantime, bar manager Laura stopped by to ensure that I was taken care of to which I informed her that Paul and I spoke and he is making a beverage for me. For the food...the Caesar Salad is #1. I am a food snob and this salad HITS!! While enjoying my salad I inquired about their cast bourbon selection. The staff was very knowledgeable and provided a price list to coincide with their higher end selections. My 40 layer lasagna arrived some time in the midst of the conversation where Paul extended a courtesy sampling of a wine that he recommended that pairs nicely with my meal. It was perfect. I closed out my meal with an espresso type martini, at which time Paul and Laura further extended and offered me a sampling of one of the bourbons I was looking at. I cannot say enough about this establishment. I can't wait to go back and have already recommended via phone conversations to three people and I just left. The evening and encounter was more than just pleasantries with a customer, rather I felt as if I was the only one. If the owner or manager is reading this, Paul and Laura are 10+ and I will be back. Thank you so much for the best meal I have had in DC over the last 2 weeks. Can't wait to do it again!!!

The place is very moodily charming because you're on a basement level with no natural light, so everything is dark and the vibe is Italian grandma kitsch. The whole thing manages to work. They were busy, and our waitress, who was highly professional (honestly she seemed like she could be a government employee) was being pulled to some VIP table in their back room (which we were seated adjacent to), so she was not as available as we would have liked. We got a couple cocktails and started with the Caesar salad and the meatballs. For a place that boasts about its portion sizes, there were only two meatballs, and they were fine. The free bread wasn't impressive, especially considering the extraordinary bread situation that we had at The Dip the previous evening. The salad was undersalted and kinda bland. So, overall, not the most promising beginning. We all shared the one main dish of Linguini Cardinale after our waitress sold us on it. It's sort of like a vodka sauce that mated with lobster, and it was delicious, but it was quite rich and heavy. We did like it though. Dessert was where we went all out with the strawberry cheesecake, the pistachio strawberry mousse cake, and the dark chocolate mousse cake. The one that had pistachio was terrible--everything tasted artificial and the texture wasn't right. The chocolate one was OK. Luckily the cheesecake was where it was at. It's not Junior's-level or anything, but compared to the other two, it stood out. We're glad we came here to have tried it once and we had a good time as a family, so it'll be a fond memory. We don't feel a pressing need to return, but we would recommend it for folks to try once.

The service in general could've been wayy better. We ordered pizza and then pasta and when we asked for a box, we were made to box up our own food and we were just given a huge pizza box that took up 80% of our table and the waitress walked away. I don't know if I was expected to just hold the pizza box while sitting at a small table and trying to eat my pasta, but there was absolutely zero consideration given to where I was supposed to put this large pizza box on this small table when we still had half of our meal coming to the table. The waiter also didn't pay attention to any dietary restrictions or allergies, and offered zero guidance on that. Also, we were told that there was a time limit for where we were sitting despite they're being several tables open the whole time we were there. For the food, I really enjoyed the food- Italian salad, pizza with the hot honey, and Alfredo pasta. But everything else really dampened the experience. Shortly after we got our drink, we received notification of an opening and were seated by 8:15. We had the burrata appetizer, Ragú x 2, and the seafood fra diavolo. The burrata was one of the best I've had since they serve it with pesto, pine nuts, and garlic bread. It was truly divine! The Ragú was not far behind. Incredible flavor and a generous portion. The seafood dish had a nice kick and had plenty of seafood, which is not common as of late. All dishes were also priced reasonably for the quality you received. Heard the focaccia was a hit, so asked for some of that. I was told they didn't have any left. Which was weird, because then another server came and asked if I wanted bread. I'm glad I said yes because the focaccia is very fresh and was a great addition to the meal. For my main, I ordered the vodka pasta, which was very flavorful and very saucy. I love a good, thick vodka sauce and that's what you'll get here. The one part of the pasta I didn't really enjoy was the chicken inside the pasta. I think I would've preferred a grilled chicken option instead of the chicken that comes in the pasta. That being said, this place is a gem. The prices are great and the portions are hearty. The pasta is thick, you're really coming here for fresh noodles and ingredients. If you want to top your meal off just right, you'll get the chocolate lava cake. Very delicious! I sampled several cocktails and found each one to be exceptional, but the standout for me was the Cala Rossa a sweet yet refreshing delight. Not saying that dining companions are distracting, but I felt like I could fully experience the flavor of both the Taglioni Neri and Gnocchi, both half portions at $10 each, better on my own. When the dishes came, I saw that the sauces were both red and feared they would taste too similar. After one fork full of each, they are quite clearly distinct. The standout in the Neri were the shellfish for me. Even though they were small bits, the pieces tasted fresh. In the Gnocchi, the saltiness of the prosciutto, though not overwhelming, paired well with the basil sauce. I finished a little more than half of each plate before boxing it up for a small lunch the next day. The service was great and the tall ceiling and windowed dining room provided a nice atmosphere. It was a cloudy and rainy Memorial Day, but I wondered what the sunlight looked like shining through those high windows. How lovely a space they have created to enjoy fine Italian dining in.
