Due to a miscommunication, two out-of-town friends and I ended up on 14th St. on a Friday evening during peak cherry blossom season without a reservation. Thankfully, we were able to score a table at Sette Osteria after a ~10 minute wait. Sette Osteria is one of the more traditional options on 14th St., serving up Italian standards that are generally tasty, if not revelatory. Service was a bit chaotic, especially as the restaurant got busier and filled up with large, loud parties. One of our vegetable sides, the brussels sprouts, never arrived, though by the time we noticed, we were too full to have eaten them anyways. We also received our dessert without any accompanying forks and it took some effort to flag someone down. Of the items we ordered, I enjoyed the pasta, a homemade cavatelli with sausage and tomato sauce, the most. The flavors were great and the pasta had a nice chew - however, the menu did say that the pasta had broccoli rabe and all we got in our pasta were a few sad, leafless stems that I initially mistook as asparagus stalks. We also shared the beet salad - the greens were fresh, the beets were flavorful - some grilled vegetables, and a quattro stagioni pizza. Unfortunately, the pizza fell flat for me - the crust had gone soggy in the center by the time the pizza arrived, and the cheese had become a bit slimy as a result and slid off the pizza slice all-too-easily. The drinks menu was fairly standard, with a selection of classic Italian cocktails (negroni, aperol spritz, etc.) and a small but decent offering of beers by the bottle and by the glass. Thanks to a Yelp check-in deal, we got a free tiramisu, which was light, refreshingly sweet, and thankfully not at all soggy. It was a great way to end an enjoyable, if not particularly memorable meal. I'd recommend Sette Osteria to families and larger parties looking for a place with easily shared dishes at an affordable price. read more

Had brunch on a Saturday afternoon here, and we had a great time! The waitress was attentive and thoughtful, topped off our bottomless mimosas religiously. The food was really good, I had the crab cake benedict and it was delicious! I loved that it has an outdoor seating area as well as a nice space indoors. My friend and I ate at Sette Osteria last night and had Maurice as our server. He was very busy but he kept up with our table very well. We liked the open window walls; we sat inside, but it had the feel of sitting outside and we were able to enjoy the nice weather from an elevated seat. As to the complaint here from 4/25/15 ("the bread tasted like stale Cosi bread, and there wasn't enough of it!"), I thought the bread, though small in portion, was very pleasant, although that might depend on personal taste. We were served a flat, almost pita-like bread that had been toasted until it had a crostini or cracker-like texture. I thought it was quite good with the table olive oil, salt, and pepper. I ordered the carbonara ($13), and asked for it to be made vegetarian by skipping the pancetta and adding capers; it seemed to be no problem at all for them, and I thoroughly enjoyed my dish . My friend ordered a special: the lamb on a bed of risotto ($26). It was HUGE, and very pretty, with yellow saffron risotto and lamb that was pronounced good. Came here with 6 friends for dinner. Our server was apathetic to the point of rude (we had to call her over to take drink orders after waiting 20 minutes or so and had to continue in this way the whole meal if service was needed). Two of us had the chicken parmigiana and both of us got food poisoning from it. It wasn't very flavorful to start with and was not worth writhing in pain all night. With two of us getting sick from the same dish it's safe to say this restaurant gave us food poisoning. There are so many better restaurants in DC where you know you will get great service and don't have to roll the dice on food safety so would advise you to avoid this place. read more

Sette Osteria I'm not Italian but eating here made me wish I was so I could have an Italian relative make the delectable delights we had at Sette Osteria! With it's outdoor seating overlooking bustling 14th Avenue or indoor seating and looking through the many windows you could both enjoy your meal and take in the environment. The restaurant is relatively small and it wasn't busy for a Sunday night so we were immediately seated. On the inside, if there are just 2 in your party, you may be seated really close to the next table of 2. The good thing about that is you may make new friends or just eyeball what they ordered to get a sense of the visual appeal and smell of the food. You won't be disappointed with either. After viewing the homemade pizza and the yummy looking pasta dish of the close party of 2, we knew we should just split a meal because the portion sizes are generous. The fresh bread brought to the table was hot, light and delicious with or without olive oil. As an appetizer, we had the Bruschetta with 3 different toppings, traditional, mushroom and black olive tapenade. There were no bad choices with any of them. For dinner we had the Melanzine Alla Parmigiana which was an eggplant, tomato sauce,basil and mozzarella cheese dish baked in a pizza oven for a delicious ooey gooey mound of deliciousness! My glass of Reisling was the perfect complement to this wonderful meal! The service was pretty good and the prices were very reasonable. I would definitely recommend trying Sette Osteria. read more

The food here was excellent. But the service was dismal. This is the first time in years I've ever left a bad tip. Ordered drinks and food quickly and it arrived in a reasonable amount of time. That's when the service ended. We were never asked to refill drinks or water, no offer of dessert and waited about 25 minutes for a waitress to get our bill, which we had to ask the bartender for. Fantastic happy hour spot, how is this place not packed? The staff has been wonderful to us both times we have visited in the past month. Socially distanced both inside and out, quick service, strong sangria, friendly staff, and good tasting food. What more can you ask for? Just stopped by to kill time while our hotel room was getting ready. It was close to the hotel. We just ordered drinks. We both got the blueberry mojito which was good but not great. My roommate and I love brunch and outdoor seating, but don't always make it out of bed before noon. This is one of the regulars on our rotation since their brunch runs until 3pm and they have a patio. The breakfast flatbread is a must. I usually order the french toast with fruit or a Margherita pizza. The server is always friendly and the food always comes quick. I sat inside which was perfect because they open up large windows that make you feel like your outside with the comfort of being shaded and larger seating area. I had the crab cake eggs Benedict with potatoes. Super tasty, and very filling and a decent price. I did not opt for the bottomless drinks but my fiancé did. He did make it to the bottle of the glass a couple of times and had to waive someone down to refill his glass. I ordered coffee but was upset that I had to ask for creamer three times! The food was rather bland. I got the cappellini con pomodoro and a side of sautéed spinach, as well as two glasses of wine, Nero d'Avola and a house Riesling. All four items were mediocre at best. I'm not that picky in terms of wine but I was not impressed. The Riesling probably could have been chilled more. The spinach tasted very leafy and not cooked as much as I would have liked. It also didn't have a lot of flavor. The cappellini was the best of all four but even it didn't have anything notable to make it stand out. I would say the best thing about this place is that it is relatively empty compared to other places on 14th, which tend to be crowded or popular. read more

I ordered the Norwegian Benedict and the salmon tasted downright rancid (I eat smoked salmon frequently so this isn't an issue of me "not liking the taste"... it clearly went sour and shouldn't have been served.) I never send anything back except for raw chicken and bad seafood and this qualified.The waiter was nice enough to offer a ham benedict as a substitute and it tasted much better. Problem is I was still charged the extra $2 for the smoked salmon benedict. I'm not looking for a free meal... just to pay for what I ate. This place is hit or miss. I've been twice and liked half my food both times. The grilled calamari is very good and I'm sure they have other dishes that a flavorful but I'm done trying to find them. A few basic things...if you are billed as an Italian restaurant: 1. you should be able to make a damn good Cesar salad and not just some over chopped romaine lettuce, bottled creamy dressing and crappy croutons. 2. Pizza crust should be crisp and cooked not soggy in the canter. This not rocket science. I'm breaking up with this place. read more

Although the food was good, I have been to other Italian places in the Georgetown/DC area which I would have to say had better pasta. This is the first restaurant we have ate at since moving to DC in March. We started with a few signature cocktails- mango martini and bellini- with bread to start then the chicken parm for him and chicken flatbread for me. We were both surprised at the portions we were served! Neither of us could finish our plates and will have tasty leftovers. They did a great job with the outdoor seating during phase 1 reopening during the vivid outbreak. Our table was ready 15 minutes before our reservation and we got seated right away. The virtual menu that we pulled up on our phones via QR code was easy to work convenient too. We look forward to trying the brunch service next time. read more

This is a quaint Italian restaurant with great service and good food. It was fairly quiet when we were there. I found the seats uncomfortable - we sat in a booth, and the back of the seat hit me in an odd spot just below the shoulder blades, and the padding was thin. Our server, Emilia, was cheerful and helpful, and checked on us often. I felt well cared for. I had the chicken parm, which was very good. It comes with flavorful roasted potatoes and broccolini. I added a side of capellini pasta, because I like that with chicken parm. I give it a 4 out of 5. The red sauce needs garlic, and the pasta did not seem to be cooked in salted water. My husband had spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs had a good flavor, but were too dense. I'd give that dish a 3 out of 5. I'd definitely come back and try other dishes. read more

Appetizers were bad. We ordered simple fries (not sure how you ruin fries) they came out stale and cold. Sent them back...they came back out stale and hotter. The pastas were just ok. We got the cavatelli and carbonara. Nothing to write home about. I guess they weren't the worst thing. But the worst part..the horrible food poisoning I had that night. Another stop on my D.C. trip was to Sette Osteria- although the stop was completely random. My friend and I wanted to have a few drinks while we waited for our other friends to join us for dinner later on. Unbeknownst to us it was HAPPY HOUR!! Happy hour was AWESOME- wine / wells / and a few other selections were 5$ and the happy hour food menu was just as affordable. I ordered the mozzarella and prosciutto flat bread- mmmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about that cheesy meaty deliciousness. I wish I had gotten our bartenders name (we sat at the bar) because she was wonderful- very attentive and sociable. I would like to give them five-stars but although the restaurant was not that busy at 6pm, my food sat ready to go near the wood oven for about 10min before it was served to me and it was very loud in the restaurant (belligerent drunk 20-something customers)- I could barely hear my friend (who was sitting next to me). I will definitely eat at this establishment again- their food, drinks, and prices were right on par! read more

This review is for the happy hour only. Sette Osteria has a great value HH menu. Most drinks, including wine and cocktails, are $7 or less, and many are only $5. The same goes for the appetizers. It was pretty quiet on a Thursday night but not empty and is a nice respite from loud DuPont places. They have very good red sangria and the bartenders are nice and attentive. This was an abysmal dining experience from our server to the manager. The manager on 4/6 at 6:30pm refused to let our table sit when 6 out of 9 of the parties had arrived. Mind you, the establishment was sparse. The majority of the tables in the entire establishment were empty. When it came to ordering, the table seated in front of us, whose party did not arrive until well after we ordered, received their food before us. When we finally received our food, about 40 minutes after we ordered, it was lukewarm. The pasta was congealed and the salmon was cold. The manager told us she "did not have time to deal with us". I would strongly caution any person of color or anyone who expects quality food in a decent time frame to dine here. Do not eat here. This establishment is not worth your investment and the quality of service is a disgrace. read more

Went to Sette on my birthday today. Service: 5 stars. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure you have a wonderful dining experience. Cost: 5 stars. Where else in DC can you get a quality bottle of wine for $30. Food: Unfortunately, this is where my experience fell short. The carbonera was flavorless, tasting only of white pasta. The sauce was lackluster and the onions weren't fully cooked. Though I did not get the pancetta on the dish, a pasta dish should never revolve around the meat. My wife had the margherita pizza which she didn't finish because it was just OK and a bit too wet. I also had the potato croquettes, which were way too charred on the outside. The small calzones were good, but the cheese inside was cold. All in all, I recommend you stop in for a drink, but skip the food. read more

Sette Osteria on 14th Street has a very welcoming feel and staff. I am a regular customer and have tried many of their dishes for lunch, dinner and brunch. If you are looking for a white pizza, try the "Prosciutto e Rucola". For lunch, the "Classico" sandwich is simple and filling. For pastas....Carbonara, Portofino...great seafood pasta as well. Awesome happy hour at the bar daily for both food and drinks. Brunch - $15 bottomless Bellinis and Mimosas is a great deal. Brunch food is not their forte but still delicious and easy. Full menu all the time. Carla, Nam, Darko, Emma always take good care of their guests and are very attentive. Try it out, you won't be disappointed. read more
