Since the piano has a beautiful high-gloss black finish, I was really worried that even after repairing it, I would still be able to see where the damage had been. My piano tuner recommended Arvin to me, and I'm very glad he did. Arvin did an amazing job! When I got the fallboard back, I honestly couldn't even find the spot that had been repaired. The color and shine match perfectly, and it looks just like the original finish. You can really tell Arvin knows what he's doing. His workmanship and attention to detail are excellent. I'm very happy with the result and would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs piano finish repair or restoration.

Given that the price difference was minimal and that it would have been easier for him to do a single session instead of coming here twice, I appreciate that he recommended the separate sessions to give the piano time to settle before subsequent fine tuning. He also recommended an in-piano dehumidifier as my location is very humid (which is true) and there are visible signs of moisture damage inside the piano. The appointment was set for 10:00 AM, I get to 10:30, and he has still not shown up. I call and leave a message, 10 minutes later, I call again, no answer. Giving it one more shot as I've already waited a month. I call again at 11 o'clock and he answers the phone. He tells me he had a "rough morning," I'm trying to verify whether or not it was an avoidable rough morning (slept in, etc...), or if something significantly happened. I didn't want details, I just wanted to be able to empathize and have more understanding, in case I would be OK with him coming within 45 minutes as he offered. He didn't understand the question, so I said no thank you. It's disappointing when somebody is running a business, and the client goes out of their way to adjust their schedule for the day for the appointment, especially after all the automated emails verifying appointment. If you could answer my call at 11 o'clock, you should have already reached out to me.

I used Jacobsen Transfer to move my Knabe 6'4" mahogany grand piano out of my house to a piano…read morere-builder. They had to bring it down an outside double stairway, one stairway very narrow and steep. I have moved this piano three times before, both in New York City and then across the country. I last brought it into my house thirty years ago, and I know the weight and difficulty first hand as the original movers back then showed up with only two men. I had to assemble some neighbors to assist and bring it up the same stairs into the house. There were five of us, all untrained, yet we somehow made it. This time, Jacobsen correctly had the five men as needed, as well as the proper tools and clearly the experience to ensure the safe descent. It was like watching a well choreographed team as they worked together with singular guidance to bring it down to street level without a hitch. If I ever bring in another piano, I know who I'll call on again. Also note that we had to reschedule the job a few times due to wet weather, but they would not risk the move unless they could ensure a safe environment as well as having enough men for the job. While some lighter pianos could be moved with fewer hands, they well knew the size and weight of my piano required five and wouldn't attempt without, nor would they add any risk that might be caused by inclement weather; exactly the right protocols. They took about 1 hour to move an organized small studio and just under 2 hours to move my lesser organized 1 BR. The bulk our time was spent at our new building which required more travel time between the truck and the unit. These guys were optimal and had excellent strategizing and problem solving across all three buildings (which were all different). They were also thorough in minimizing damage to our belongings via wrapping and care. This team set a new standard for me and I'd hire them again.
