We hired Handy Movers in Dec 2024 to move us from Contra Costa County to Solano County. I appreciated the ability to reserve the move date with an online form which included details on number of boxes, pictures/artwork, and furniture. We received email confirmation of our reserve date; and, a week prior to the move a call to confirm available movers and we were able to add an additional mover to help us pack up our kitchen. Roberto, Mike, Rigo, and Chemo showed up on time and were well prepared. They efficiently and carefully packed up our four-bedroom home. Upon arrival to our new home, they were able to put together our reclining sofa and chair and our bedroom set. We were so happy that they were also able to pull out of the shipping boxes our NEW sit-stand desk and counter chairs and put those together too. Roberto helped us with laying out the open concept areas so that the living and dining room still had defined spaces and happily adjusted some of the larger furniture when I requested. They took the BEST care of my dining room glass table to ensure it arrived in good condition and even cleaned up the glass to remove dust and smudges. After all the work they did for us, the final bill came in very reasonably priced! We are grateful for the work the Handy Movers team performed for us. They made a stressful life event manageable. They were fast, efficient and handled with care. They were nice and courteous and I saw a team that worked well together. Moving 4 adult sized people who've lived in a place for years to the other side of contra costa (Brentwood to Moraga) isn't gonna be cheap, but the prices were reasonable and even beat some of the other places that I KNEW would not have taken such good care of our stuff. Ok so let me start by saying my first experience with them was 5 stars! Unfortunately, my second round with them did not go so well. I used them the first time to move my garage and large furniture around the home. I explained this on the phone to the girl taking down all the info. 2 guys showed up, were very helpful, careful, quick, and the only questions asked was "are we taking this?" Now this second time, guy comes, first question after I told him they were now moving my upstairs items, was " wait I was told I'm only moving 3 beds and a couch" I said "no, it's 3 full bedrooms and a couch". I proceed to tell him "oh and just fyi, when they moved the couch in here they had to take it thru the patio door". His response: "welp, they probably weren't trained movers, I'm sure. And we will be moving everything thru this front door.." um, ok... And just as I warned, he ended up moving the couch through the patio door. About 2 hours into them moving things he asks me "where is your husband to help you?"...... like wtf.... I hired movers, I shouldn't need a husband to help me . And what if I I don't have a husband or anyone to help me... how am I supposed to respond to that. They continue moving stuff, he and his partner left boxes behind, that I now have to go back and get myself. In addition he told me he wouldn't be able to take my mattress upstairs at the new place... oh and then claimed that he was told I was moving into a one story!! ... eventhough I was very specific with the girl on the phone that I had just had this company move me a few weeks prior, same addresses, etc. so now I don't know if it was a lack of details jotted down by the girl on the phone or if this guy was just making excuses. He seemed like he couldn't handle the move so I decided to leave all my clothes in my closet, even though I was told on the phone that they could provide wardrobe boxes to hang clothes. I didn't even want to ask to use them because of how surprised and overwhelmed he seemed by the job. I would suggest this company do a better job at communicating between mover and telephone receptionist, have some type of follow up survey for each move performed, and a better way to track customer requests, as opposed to just giving the movers a hand written piece of paper with no other back up in the office to confirm job specifics. All in all, if you get the first guy I had as a mover, you are in good hands with this company. And I can say that both sets of men were careful when transporting items (which is REALLY hard to find with moving companies). read more

Someone recommended Handy Movers to me and I decided to try it based on yelp reviews. Right at the first call with the company we felt very confident in helping us move everything and being honest about the pricing and process. The day of the move they came right on time, there was a group leader who took a quick tour of what all needed moving(everything for us!) and his attitude was so professional and friendly at the same time. He assured us he will take care of things for us so we had nothing to worry. He also gave us a rough estimate on the time so we were not alarmed at the end of day. Great experience. They were very easy to work with both before our moving day and while they were at our house. They wrapped all of the furniture and electronics completely to ensure nothing was damaged in the truck. We were worried about not fitting everything in the truck but they packed it so well that everything only took up 2/3 of the space. They were also super efficient. I've moved every 3-4 years since I was a child (thanks to my dad being in the military) and have been spoiled by white glove military moving and corporate relocation specialists (in my professional career). It was not until I moved for personal reasons without the benefit of relocation specialists that I got my feelings hurt. That's another LONG story not worth mentioning. Needless to say, there are some sketchy moving companies out there, but the Handy Movers are on not them. So here is what I did once I found new housing. I called multiple moving companies based on their yelp reviews. All were pleasant, but I went with the Handy movers because they were: 1. Super efficient to deal with via email and the phone; 2. Less expensive (even without the discount); and 3. Provided an additional "yelp" discount. No one came out to scope my home (which works for me because I needed to be in the office for work), but the night before I did received a confirmation call. The movers showed up at 9:15AM (within the 9-10AM window) and finished packing and moving my home by 1:30PM. They took a little break, drove to my new home, and finished up there by 5PM. Adrian, Jorge and Anselmo were careful, efficient and professional the entire time. Yeah, team! I highly recommend working with these movers (Adrian is a wizard parking and navigating the huge van on narrow neighborhood streets). This is the first time I hired professional movers for a local move about half hour away. We collected some furniture and lots of stuff over 8 years in our 1-story 3BR/2BA (~1300 sqft) house and were going to move into a 4BR/2.5BA house (~2100 sqft). Overall, Handy Movers were outstanding and worth the price. I chose a team of 4 guys, and they sent Roberto (the lead), Jose, Adrian, and Jonas. Even though the hourly rate is higher than say a team of 3 guys, I'd figure the move would be more efficient and smooth and total hours would be less. Kristen from the HQ was also pleasant and extremely helpful - answering all my questions, giving great suggestions, and following up. The moving truck arrived at the exact appontment time, and I was glad they called ahead. Roberto then walked through the house and I explained what needed to be moved and what didn't. The move then started - from dissassembling furniture, wrapping up the parts in blankets, and moving all the boxes and pieces to the truck took 1.5 hours only. The truck (~32 footer I think) was barely full so I decided to add some more stuff like dissassembling the garage storage cabinets and other big appliances. These guys were meticulous, efficient, and amazing to watch in action. The unloading was equally efficient - 1.5 hours also. They helped us tighten up a few loose table and chair legs and helped put on the felt pads on the furniture (we were moving into a house with hardwood floors). Roberto even gave useful suggestions on how to arrange furniture to open up the rooms and make it more welcoming - after all they do this full time and probably saw lots and lots of examples. Bottom line - thank you Yelp for helping me find these guys. I would not hesitate to use them again for their sheer efficiency and the peace of mind you get. I called Handy Movers to do an onsite move for several pieces of furniture that needed to be moved upstairs. I spoke with Kristen and she kept me in the loop for all concerns - if you have an onsite move, remember to give them that list so they can make an estimate of their time. It's a minimun 2.5 for their time so keep that in mind. They also offer trash removal - in our case it was the plethora of boxes and various things that were leftover when cleaning out a room and they charged $75 for that. Any furniture that you don't want and aren't able to donate on your own they will also move that for you and will donate it to a charity. Handy Movers were professional and a pleasure to deal with.
