3-stars is fair. I was hoping Seven would be my new go to nail salon as it's a quick walk away but I'll have to continue the search. The owner is friendly but the work here feels rushed and shortcut. The real turnoff was my last visit when the nail tech went to get a hot towel to wipe my hands. I saw her take the used nail tools that she'd just finished prepping my nails with, wipe them with the hot towel then bring over that same hot towel to wipe my hands with. When I asked that she use a different (clean) towel, she at first tried to just use a paper towel instead but after I explained that I saw her use it to clean the nail kit, she got a new one. The worst experience I've ever had at a nail salon! The image is what my nails looked like after soaking in acetone for 30 minutes. I spoke to a man who worked there and explained that the acetone was not working and maybe they could buff some of the color off. In response he threw a nail file at me and told me to do it myself. We are often concerned about encountering some racism & transphobia at salons, but Seven Color Nail's staff was nothing but welcoming. Seven Color Nail is right next door to my gym and I saw it advertised in the window that they do UV gel mani's and for $10 less than Polish Bar. (Polish, please forgive me for my indiscretion). On this day, I was given what is probably the lousiest UV gel mani on Earth! 1)The manicurist soaked my nails in what looked and smelled like regular strength nail polish remover, instead of doing a 10 minute UV gel removal wrap like Polish Bar does. Next, he scraped my old polish off-I mean literally digging and scraping away at my polish as if my fingernails were made of stone and it took forever! 2)The polish was thick and lumpy 3)The purpose of UV gel is a mani that is quick-drying and long-lasting. My nails were still sticky after 3 runs through the UV dryer. Why? 4)End result was a very sloppy looking manicure that's starting to look worn and it's only been a day. I have been here twice now to get a manicure during short lunch breaks. Each time, I have been the only customer in the store and have told them that I only had thirty minutes. Both times the technician worked quickly (but not carelessly) and had me finished and dried in exactly thirty, as I had asked. I came in at about noon on a Saturday and was able to get in after about a ten minute wait (there are only three or four pedicure chairs and maybe six manicure stations - there were three people working when I came in on Saturday). A mani-pedi ran me $35. If this exact place was on the other end of the park on Flatbush, it would probably be $25-30. The prices are a teensy bit higher than I would expect for a "not fancy"place, but the prices are fair for the neighborhood, I suppose. The quality and vibe here are way better than a place like Bling Bling nails in Crown Heights (which is hectic and not as professional, but only $20). I also opted for the 10 minute foot massage for 10 bucks. If I had to do it again, I would also get the ten minute neck massage because the ten seconds she gave me for free was really nice. I would come back here if I wanted to bring a friend for a cheap but quality mani/pedi without taking them to my usual creepy cheap spots. Update: I wrote this about twelve hours after my mani/pedi. He was very gentle and took his time and did a great job with my pedi. The one issue I had with my gel manicure was that he did not bring the plush as close down to my cuticles as I wanted. I really like the space, long hallway and the massage chairs aren't ghetto fab with duct tape, and everything matches like the owner put some serious dough down to renovate and get a cohesive decor going on. Christina helps me into these 2 dollar flipflops and I pick my colors which she applies expertly and meticulously. This place recently got renovated and have all new massaging pedicure chairs. They have also redone their floor and the place looks great. It still has a no frills approach but their manicures and eyebrow waxing are great. Prices have increased a touch ($9 for a mani, $7 for eyebrows) but at those prices who can complain! Manis last for about a week, although I have also had the $25 quasi gel manis that last for about 2.5 wks. Note for those who are a bit put out by the fact that they don't use disposable manicure tools, note that their tools are put into a sterilization box that uses UV light to kill germs. It's been my "go to" nail salon since November of last year. The Spa Pedicure is great and they have a good selection of OPI Colors. I now visit every two weeks and haven't had a bad experience since the first one last August. Maybe the employee was having a bad day back then.
