This is my absolute fav spot in North Park! We've been coming here for years! Always love the vibe, ambiance and well crafted cocktails. This stylish whiskey lounge features pool tables, darts, and live entertainment. It's always a good time here! Early birds are highly recommended, long lines of people form outside towards the end of the evening. There's definitely a trick to getting a drink- it's called push your way to the front (it's all part of the experience). For the most part, bartenders are quick, fast and efficient! Making great recommendations for first timers. We made a late night stop with friends after dinner. First round of cocktails- the legendary Old Fashioned! Because why the hell not? It's a classic- Bonded Bourbon, Aromatic Bitters, Sugar, Citrus Zest. Very smooth! Great whisky cocktails. If you're a whisky lover, this is definitely a place you'd want to check out. It's in the main stretch of North Park, but easily missed because of its muted external decor. The service is alright. I've had times when they're friendly and others when they're more standoffish (but not rude). It doesn't bother me. Seven Grand is 100% my favorite bar in North Park. Their happy hour (4-8 PM) is hard to beat. One of the highlights of coming here is running into Marty behind the bar. His cocktails are always spot-on, and he's got the kind of easygoing hospitality that keeps us coming back. The service overall is top-notch, which is rare to find at a place that gets this busy (especially on the weekends). There's also a photobooth in the back. Most people don't realize it's there. Just keep in mind, it takes a bit to actually load up but it's definitely worth the wait. Seven Grand nails it every time. Bomb drinks, amazing service, and a vibey atmosphere that feels like home. I was in the area so I finally got to visit this bar. It's dark inside but looks elegant. It's got the whisky bar feeling. The bar area is nice. There are two pool tables, a booth, an area for dart games and an open window seating area. The Happy hour menu looks simple. I ordered a happy hour mule and then ordered another one because it was good lol. There's a speakeasy in the back. I'd love to check it out one day. read more

Pretty neat spot. Cool ambiance & decor & vibes - dark & intimate whiskey bar. The live music is fun, especially the jazz on Sat nights. Menu is pretty basic - whiskey centered & based, but they have other options as well. My singular complaint - well/bar ice, not craft ice for the old fashioned/whiskey cocktails. It's pretty detrimental to me, the cost is the same as the cocktail I'll order at Part Time Lover, but I get craft ice there.... I hate to compare, but this is a baseline at the 2 establishments. Deceptively huge on the inside. It's where the Hipsters come shoot some stick. The tables fill up early - but there is something cool about drinking one of the 700 whiskies on the walls, looking at taxidermy, and watching pool. Or maybe disappear in the back where they have a mirrored disco ball. Or better yet - grab an old fashioned, pick a cigar from the humidor, and sit out in the back patio. I've been frequenting San Diego's Seven Grand in North Park (on University Ave.) for a couple decades now. The backroom (called the Blind Spot, I believe) is absolutely the best, as it has curated tastings where one can learn and taste at the same time. Marty is absolutely fabulous: an incredibly kind, humble, and constantly-learning "host" and server. He is so professional, as well as personable. I continue to bring friends with me, some of whom didn't like whiskey to begin with, but now understand which ones they do like. And the environment created by Marty is part of the experience. A few years back, Seven Grand opened up a tequila place, and when there was a tasting, I brought a friend; it was a good night. Alas, that place closed, but at North Park's Seven Grand, Marty brings in tequila tastings now. I and my friends are so appreciative. Frankly, we would not be going out for drinks if it wasn't for Seven Grand's Blind Spot (backroom) tastings, and Marty. We pay to keep supporting these, and we tip well -- because we want this to continue. Yesterday evening was one such Blind Spot end-of-month Royale tasting, and my friend and I kept thanking Marty -- can't wait to visit and see him again soon! read more

Great experience last night at the Rey Wolf show. Ambiance was everything. Brought a couple of male friends who love whiskey as this is a whiskey bar. All drinks we ordered were delicious. The vibe was dark and comfortable. The back room had a nice chocolate candle smell to it and great music but I could only stay in there 20 mins due to allergies. We were shocked by how unprofessionally we were treated. My partner was tapping on the bar when a bartender approached and told him to "f***ing stop." There was no intoxication or disruptive behavior that justified profanity or hostility. Being cursed at by staff is unacceptable in any setting. I really like the Seven Grand in LA so I had to check out the San Diego location. Being a whiskey guy the drinks here were a solid 10/10, they even had a special on whiskey sours for $8 on a Friday night. Service was also 10/10 for me, bartenders were really friendly and the wait for drinks wasn't bad at all. Great dive bar, has multiple pool tables, two bar fronts one with an amazing selection of top shelf (literally) spirits and beer. The ambiance is really nice, low lighting with a country feel. You can see various animal heads on the wall, there's a live band nooked away in the main room as well. Lots to do and it's right on the main street. Does get pretty cramped on weekends, gotta make sure your bartender knows you're ordering. read more

First off love Seven Grand. Unfortunately Martin in the Blind Spot tonight was a huge a**hole to my wife and I when I asked him if he put any whiskey in our cocktails (I only saw him put ice in glasses and then run them under a seltzer/soda machine). Took several bouts of him chest-thumping and questioning our seriousness before he bothered to clarify that the whiskey and seltzer come out of the same machine. Recommend leading with that next time without the confrontational posture, we weren't trying to get a rise out of him. Maybe do fewer shots with the other patrons, slower. read more

Seven Grand was the last stop of the night for me on a Friday evening and the place was buzzing even around 12:00 a.m. Though I was at a whiskey bar -- where sky's the limit for what kind of whiskies you can try out, I actually ended up ordering two Negronis during my visit. They were made quickly and properly. The bar is LOUD and you should expect to yell in order to have a conversation with your friends. After the band vacates the stage, the stage becomes an area for darts. In addition to darts, you'll also find two pool tables in the main area, as well as an outdoor patio section dedicated to smoking. Overall, solid place to stop by for drinks. read more

While it's definitely different from their house old fashioned (pre chilled and different whiskey and bitters) two of these for $17 is a great night. What a great bar! First off, it was like stepping into a hunting lodge with low lights to set the mood and deer heads lining the walls. Secondly, I love that they have happy hour every day from 4-8pm where drinks are $8 (I got the Kentucky mule). The front bar is rather large and the bartenders made sure that everyone got their happy drink orders in before it ended. The space is also bigger than I thought and we wandered to the back area by the bathrooms. They were having a whiskey tasting event for $25 that included 6 tastings and a cocktail. We were informed that we could still participate until 8:15pm, however when we went back to check they told us that the event was closed and we would be drinking irresponsibly if they let us in (I assume he meant that we would be shooting back the tastings?). I would say it was a little disappointing but I guess it is a good excuse to return. Lastly, some observations: that the bar gets really packed later in the evening (nothing new here), but coming at around 7pm was a good idea and you can reserve seats and get in on the happy hour. Also, if you want to play pool we found out that to save your spot in line, you need to put down a dollar. Overall a great experience and I will be returning. read more

From a variety of Whiskey options to choose from with insightful, patient, and kind-hearted Mixologists, and an absolutely gorgeous interior, I'd give Seven Grand Seven Stars if I could. They've gone above and beyond constantly - to the point that they now have a delightful contrasting speakeasy in the back.
