I feel really bad leaving such a low rating because the seamstress was super nice, but I have to say, maybe don't use them for important clothing, the quality of some of the hand sewing was definitely not up to par... I came to them with an antique wedding dress (50's) that i had the neckline altered, and parts of the skirt part shortened (I was quoted at $800 for this-- the dress was plain, two or 3 layers, no beading, ect. But because I was tired and exhausted from the rest of the wedding planning, i figured for that much money they'd at least do a quality job)... Originally she had told me that we could set up a time to shop for lace together -- but then when i called a few days later to schedule a time to shop, she said she had already purchased the lace!!! I show up, but the lace is NOT what she had suggested in the earlier consultation-- looked very cheap, no beading and sequins (which is what i was originally shown) and i was charged an extra $120... On my own time I went lace shopping and found something I wanted to use and brought it to her and she used instead which i did appreciate. In the end, the dress turned out cute, but i didn't notice, when she altered the neck line, she didn't put a zipper stop on the dress!! I don't know how she did it originally, maybe she folded over the edge so it wouldn't come off, but on the day of the wedding the zipper zipped all the way to the top and then off!!! :( I had to be pinned into my wedding dress... also I realized later that day, most of the lace had not been sewn on securely and some of the thread holding the lace onto the dress had come off! I tried calling to ask for a partial refund of the dress, but have not been able to get in contact with them in the last few days. Left my name and number with them several times, and no response. I will update this review later if they do finally get in contact with me... but for now i leave this very sad review. The seamstress was very sweet, but I definitely suggest if you are having a wedding dress altered, maybe do it someplace else so you don't have any wedding dress malfunctions on your special day. :( :( :( read more

Eleni is simply wonderful. There is no other way to describe her work. After getting the runaround down the street at Alterations (who wanted to charge me $160 for a same-day hem on a skirt), I saw a street sign for Sew Chic and hoped she could help me. Eleni charged me $30 for the hem, and $30 to rush it same-day, which was completely reasonable in my book (the hem involved two layers, one of which was very thin.) I also just walked in there today to get a shirt emergency-pressed for an event; Eleni did it immediately and then sent me on my way with no charge. Now THAT is how you retain a client! read more

She did a nice job altering a work dress. BUT... She increased the price as she was writing out the order form saying "this is a difficult job". I told her that it wasn't cool to change price we agreed on. Paid the deposit and left. When I went back to pick it up, she kept saying "that was a difficult dress" and had actually altered the receipt - increasing the balance! I told her that was not okay. Good thing I had a copy of my order form with the original price. Then, she claimed not be be able to give me change (as she only wanted cash). But I could see singles and smaller denominations. She did a good job, but left a bad taste in my mouth trying to sneak in extra charges. read more

I have been coming here for years. She is amazing. I had an unfortunate run in with a bridesmaid dress from hell. She fixed it perfectly. I used to be a personal assistant for a very wealthy woman who swore by her. She can be a little steep but it's quality and it's supporting small business which I think is fantastic. read more

I came in to get my bridesmaid dress hemmed and Elfide did an amazing job! The dress has 3 layers, and she had me try on the dress with the shoes on. Turns out the bottom layer was fine in length, so she said only 2 of the layers would need to be hemmed. I liked that she looked at it herself and adjusted to the shoes rather than automatically charging me for all 3 layers. Paid $80 - $35 for the inner layer, and $45 for the outer since it was almost double in width. I dropped off my dress on a Thurs and was told it'd be ready in a week and a half (I told her I wasn't in any rush), but she ended up calling me the Tues after saying it was ready for pickup already! I came here in need of a drastic, last minute fix. No one else in the city was able to complete the job in such a short amount of time, and I doubt anyone else could have done such a perfect job. I recently brought my bridesmaid dress here to be hemmed (which was a two birds dress that later I learned i could probably have cut it on my own) I read great reviews and upon meetin Eleni I really liked her so I totally thought everything would be great. I told her I didnt want to spend much so just hem it because Id probably never wear it again. Not only was she late with my dress (I was legitimately crying in the lobby of her buiding late for rehearsal dinner trying to get the security guard to let me get it as she had promised on the phone and she had had 4 weeks to hem it), but she barely touched the dress and charged me $110 for it. She even had left some of the safety pins in it that I had put in myself before bringing it there so I dont even know if she even touched it and charged me $110!! I will NEVER go back read more

Eleni is amazing. She has been doing my tailoring for years. She takes all of my work clothing (Armani, Akris, Michael Kors) and makes it look like it was made for me. (She also does all my casual clothes) I am short (5' 3") and over the years have crept up to a curvy size 8. I buy tons of stuff online and then discover it's not really made for me or my shape but I love it anyway, and don't want to return it! Eleni always can restructure a jacket to bring in the waist and find a little extra room in the chest, or take a pair of pants that's pulling just a little and somehow find that miracle extra 1/2 inch around the hips. Her work is meticulous, and I have never had any qualms about trusting her with very expensive designer clothing. I always get tons of compliments on my clothes, and I feel like I owe it to Eleni, who hides my flaws and emphasizes the good points. She is not super cheap, but if you've ever had cheap tailoring, you know you get what you pay for. read more

I had purchased a dress from Ted Baker for my cousins wedding, and I was a bit pressed for time, as I only had 5 days to get it tailored before I was leaving out of town for the wedding. The dress was very delicate, double layered with intricate lace on the top part where I needed it to be taken in. I came here because I saw decent reviews. I was very skeptical especially because the lady had told me at the fitting that the zipper on the side was going to be a big problem. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. The dress turned out impecably, and you couldn't even tell that it was altered, as if I was made this way. It fit very nicely, and the lady was very nice, she took me in right away, and the dress was altered in 2 days. However, this great service and excellent work does not come cheap. I had to pay $80 to get the sides, a little loff the bakc and front taylored, however, the result was worth it. I will go back to her, but probably only for the very nice clothing items as she's a bit on the pricey side. read more
