After visiting the others, I decided to go with Ornela because she was able to tell me right away which parts needed to be tailored without me having to tell her during our consultation. She's well versed with JY dresses and I was totally sold on this point. She is meticulous, honest and professional. I enjoyed working with her. I normally go to Chinatown for affordable hemming on special occasion dresses but my friend who was a bride recommended this place uptown. I had a black tie wedding to attend and last minutely needed hemming done since I'm 5'. Appointments can be made online but it seemed quiet enough to allow for walk-ins. The space was clean and they were very quick and professional. They recently did alterations for Keke Palmer for the Met Gala! The dress had one layer so it was $85 and completed in a week later. Pick up was easy and the dress looked great! Glad to find a new place near my office for all of my special occasions. read more

I had taken a bridesmaid dress to get it taken in and hemmed. We had pinned it and agreed on what needed to be altered. When I went to pick it up at the date and time I was told, the dress was still too big, did not lay appropriately, and now there is no time to correct it. When I brought this up, she did try to add another layer of cups (now theres 2 layers) to make the top a little tighter, but it is still too big and does not fit how she had pinned it at our original appointment or how it is supposed to. read more

She addressed my concerns with ease, including helping me design and make new sleeves for my dress since the original did not work with my frame. Tailored by Ornela was on the list of places recommended by Jenny Yoo (who does not do alterations in-house) for changes needed to their dresses. I brought my maid of honor / bridesmaid dress to Tailored by Ornela hoping Ornela could help with pulling that was occurring to the top of the dress as a result of removing cups that I didn't need. (I *originally* brought my dress to a different tailor for a simple hem and to have the cups removed. I wish I had just come to Tailored by Ornela.) Ornela's fix was simple and smart AND effective, even though my previous tailor indicated there was absolutely nothing they could do short of tearing the dress apart and charging me double. I had owned this used wool coat for 6+ years and the inner lining desperately needed restoration. The job was very nicely done and for a very decent price, this was in comparison to Alteration Specialists which gave me a quote of nearly double what Ornela had offered. Because my wide shoulders tend to rip and tear at the seams, Ornela had used a stretchier fabric around the arms giving the coat a little more wiggle room. I hope that this repair will be just as durable as it is beautiful for the up coming NYC winters. I put 4 stars because I had also paid for the buttons to be resewn and had to return bc one had fallen off. Ornela then fixed it so all the buttons would stay on. I needed a dress hemmed for a wedding a week before the wedding. Alteration Specialists told me 2 weeks before I'd get my dress back so I searched and found Tailored by Ornela. I wish I could give more than five stars! There so many good things I could say. I was extremely overwhelmed as my larger wedding had to be postponed due to covid. My fiancé and I decided to do a small mini mony in paris and started to plan with one month time. Ornela was able to finish my dress in two weeks. The first fitting was done in one week and she took in the waist and the shoulders. The second fitting was for the length. She did not charge for such quick work! Ornela was so kind. She was so helpful and she more than knows what she is doing. I have an extremely complicated dress with the lace detailing and especially the hem. The dress was probably ordered a size too large. She was able to keep the structure of the dress without messing up the details; even though the length and waist had to be taken in quite a bit! The process of finding a place for alterations can be a lot because there are so many. The shop was so clean, quiet, and private. She is reasonably priced. I found Ornela because she was a preferred tailor for Jenny Yoo, where I got my dress. She was very affordable (about $500 for hemming, taking in the bust, changing straps material, and adding a bustle). She was great and easy to work with and did a very attractive and simple bustle. I only wish I had asked for it hemmed a little shorter because it got very dirty at the bottom and people stepped on it during dancing. She can work very fast, where she got it all done in like a month without batting an eye, AND switching the straps in a couple days as a last minute request from me when i realized how uncomfortable the original straps were. She gave me a cutting of the original straps and told me to take it to a specific store and get them to find an elasticated strap to match it closely. I did it and it worked out beautifully. I even asked her to alter some other items of clothing during this, and her pricing was reasonable for that too and she made it so I could pick them up at the last fitting. She was open on weekends too which was super helpful for being able to come to the three fittings. Even when I was late (sorry!) she fit me in. For making this process high quality, affordable and easy, and for her patience and kindness, I highly recommend her for bridal and everyday tailoring. read more
