The team there was so welcoming, kind, professional and obviously knowledgeable from years of experience. Their work hemming and taking in the gown and constructing a new neckline was impeccable and the love they wove in was clear. I was lucky enough to wear my gown twice, for our 2020 ceremony and then 2021 reception; in between events, I had my gown professionally cleaned and to my horror, it was drastically shrunk. The team at Sew Elegant (while also horrified), took it in stride and were able to hem the gown so the new fit looked purposeful, while charging me an incredibly minimal price. Landed in NY and on my flight ,my back pocket of my jeans got caught in the chair and 1/2 way came off, the next day I called 5 repair/ sew shops. The first 3 no response the 4th one only did alterations and no repairs and the 5th one is sew elegant the owner picked up the phone, I asked if they could repair a pocket and she said "sure come on in", so I did. This place is not your average repair shop its a full on bridal dress alteration shop. They have about 4-5 ppl that I could see working on bridal dresses. It was clean and organized, I showed her my jeans and she took them to the back and asked me did I want to come back or wait for them, I said I would wait. I then got into a conversation with the owner Esin. Given they are a busy shop she took the time to make me feel important. I can see why so many woman come here to get their dress altered for that big day. One of the employees came out with my jeans and I asked how much she said pay me what ever. And I gave her $10, As they are my favorite jeans. I can say I don't know much about the wedding dress business but I do know about character of people and Esin is a great soul. read more

What can I say about Sew Elegant and Esin. She is great at what she does, but it is her personality that makes her even better. I knew she was pricey because of getting a bridesmaid dress altered by her, but she is good so I wanted to see her for my wedding. I knew the amount of money I had would be below her asking price without even asking. I asked her for a quote over the phone, they don't really do that so in sheer faith (probably the size of a medium mustard seed) I brought my dress in When I saw her, she told me her price, and tears welled up in my eyes. I didn't want them to be there. I was overwhelmed. I just couldn't afford that. I apologized for being emotional. I told her how much I had, which was far less than her asking price. My fiancée told me to bring the cash with me. I told her I understand if she couldn't take it, and she was worth more than what I had to offer. Side note - I hate being a budget bride (even though I don't mind being that way in nearly every other area of my life) but that is what I am. She told me not to cry, she wanted to see a smile. She said it is ok, money isn't everything, and that she would do my dress. I kept asking her if she was sure. I felt horrible for having to negotiate with her, but she said it's ok she would do it. She even told me I could give it to her later. I gave it to her immediately, and joked I had robbed a bank for the money. I finally laughed, and that made her happy. . I guess no tradeswoman, wants a sad looking bride walking out of their office. She wrote me a receipt that read "paid", and we will see each other in about two months I will try to write another review on the finished product, but I can tell you her service is great. read more

I've already come back to Esin for two bridesmaids dresses already. My first dress was a vera wang - but a size 12 because I wanted to save on some money. I am a size 0 with A cups and she brought that dress down to fit me like a glove, without any weirdness from the large size. It was amazing! I also told her I needed it in 2 weeks time and she worked with me on that. Because the first dress was so great, I brought her another one a year later which was a dress with lace decal for the shoulders and also the waist. She was able to alter it (this time was a starting size 2) and keep the lace design from looking weird. Amazing job! I got my wedding gown and reception dress tailored at Sew Elegant after being referred by Jenny Yoo. They were so reliable and detail-oriented. In my fittings, a seamstress would come by to take a look and see what else could be done to make my dresses even more perfect for me. Overall had a relatively easy experience with Sew Elegant. Esin was nice and easy to work with. The location is great, very easy to get to. I had an extremely simple dress (no tule, no lace, no bling, no boning, no bustle, just needed to be hemmed, have straps taken down, and waist taken in) and the cost was $500. At the end of the day, after three appointments, the alterations were perfect and I was happy with the way the dress looked. The price was the killer. I ultimately went with her because she came recommended by Lovely Bride but I probably could have gotten a better deal elsewhere. She also was answering the phone constantly while working with me which was a bit off putting, the appointments are so short, she may benefit from hiring an assistant for scheduling so she can focus on her customers that are there. Wonderful experience. Esin, was sweet and kind. She makes you feel like a Bride and an individual. She had to proform an act of GOD on my dress, the dress was from a second hand shop, the skirt was damaged and needed a complete redo, the dress was too big, there was no bustle, etc, etc. And, she did it two weeks. It looked better than brand new. She also makes veils and accessories. And, gives you something blue. I have referred her to a few friends and everyone had a good experience. Please note that my review is based solely upon my consultation but "Eek! Methinks not" is right! I bought my wedding dress from Jenny Yoo and Sew Elegant is their preferred tailor. Just swung by this morning for a consultation on necessary alterations to the dress. I ordered a size 4 which fits perfectly with the exception of the bust. No hemming, does not require a bustle - literally just need the top taken in and cups added. Esin and team quoted me $850! Solely to take the top in! Mind you they said they wouldn't charge me for the cups, which was a free $30 "gift", LOL. I promptly asked for my dress back and left. I am sure they do great work but $850 for such minimal alterations is outrageous. read more

However, when I picked up my dress this past weekend, I realized that it didn't need any further alterations and I honestly just forgot to call her to cancel my appointment. I paid 880 for alterations on my all lace wedding dress, this is higher than her usual price since it was such a hard dress to alter. I had it taken in on the sides and on my neck and around my butt, hemmed and bustled. I think I went to 3 visits including the first one and 4 if you count the pick up. Full disclosure: I was a bit of an unorganized bride. I waited until two months before my wedding to search for a seamstress, let alone get it altered, so I felt truly blessed when I met Esin. From the moment I walked into Sew Elegant, I knew I was in the best hands. Esin greeted me with such warmth! I'd purchased my Pnina Tornai gown from a Kleinfelds' sample sale, and although it was stunning, the dress was in poor shape and the bust needed to be completely reshaped. Esin provided a ton of reassurance and immediately began explaining the ways she would make it the dress of my dreams. Please note that they do require that your dress be dry cleaned before they get started - not knowing this cost me about a week; however Esin and her team still worked their magic in spite of my time constraints. The final result was a thing of pure beauty and an impeccable fit. I felt like a queen, and it was all due to their dedication. They have the machine in house and multiple seamstress on site so your dress will be address immediately without transportation. I needed the dress to be ready in one week: a rush order. I think it helped that the event was on Nov: off season (Oct-Feb). They were so accommodating and I was able to get my dress in less than a week. In addition, they know what they are talking about and doing. The bustle they created not only made me walk smoothly. It became a part of gown design and added even more elegance. The WORST experience. I am an opera singer so I've been around Taylors, sewers, costume crew, etc. This women Esin is just a total scam. We all know how expensive weddings can be and of course we want to look our best. I took my dress and for 3 details she wanted to do to the dress she quoted $750. Are you kidding me?? I said I wasn't thinking of spending that much money, she was extremely rude and said it was a NY price. The worst part is she broke the zipper when zipping it down. Which is weird because I tried my dress at home so many times without any problem. She said she could do the zipper and the stem for $250. That's absurd. I left. But I did not want to take any chances with my wedding dress, and I'm so happy I went with Sew Elegant. My dress (Tenley Gown from BHLDN) had an annoying half lining that kept riding up when I walked. Esin and her team replaced it with a full lining. They also did an impeccable job with the hem, which was a lot of work because of the intricate lace detail. 5 out of 5 for the final product, Esin made my wedding dress fit like a glove and for that I am truly appreciative. It was on the higher end of quotes to resize, shorten, add a bustle, and remove straps on a dress with lace and beading ($1000), but you're paying for the peace of mind knowing that the team wont stop making alterations until you're totally satisfied. One tip for those considering going with Sew Elegant is that youll be happiest with the results if you are totally direct with your feedback. Not sure if its just that the wedding industry broadly tends to be "yes-men" supportive vs. results-oriented, or if its just a language barrier issue, but you need to be assertive about what you want (and Esin seems like she's genuinely happy when you're happy). To illustrate what i mean --when the straps on the dress first came off during my second fitting, i had wanted a sweetheart neckline and it came out looking like a much deeper U shape that showcased assets I am not endowed with. Esin and her helper oohed and aahed and i felt like it would be offensive to their craft to tell them i didnt like it, so kept phrasing my disappointment in question form but they kept insisting it looked great. Later that afternoon after a little pep talk from a wise friend, I called up and stated I had reservations about the current design, and Esin graciously found time for me to come back in. This time I came equipped with a drawing and pictures, and Esin listened carefully and showed me what she could do to help resolve my concerns. Fast forward to the next fitting, and the neckline looked just like what I had in mind. And just to illustrate what i mean by Esin going to the ends of the earth to make sure you look and feel great, on my third and last fitting, i felt like the two sides of the sweetheart neckline were just a touch uneven --not insufferably so, but i could tell. This was maybe a week away from when i needed to pick it up, but Esin agreed to see what she could do, and we squeezed in one last appointment where it did seem like they had actually moved the neckline as best as they could (not easy when you're moving lace). Overall, super happy with how it turned out, and would recommend sew elegant to any future brides! read more

Just had my second fitting with Esin, who has been so fantastic through this whole process. I wanted cap sleeves added to my wedding dress, so I wanted to make sure the seamstress was capable of something more complicated than just hemming. I was recommended Sew Elegant by my bridal salon, but was slightly worried based on some reviews here. Bottom line: the bad reviews are wrong! Esin has been nothing knowledgeable, timely, and incredibly warm. She knew exactly what I was thinking, listened to my ideas, and seemed to anticipate worries I had before I could even voice them. My dress fits perfectly and comfortably, and the added sleeves look like they belonged there all along. Yes, it's pricier than going to the Dry Cleaner's around the corner, but I believe that if you've put down a decent amount on a well-made dress, you deserve to make sure the alterations are as good quality. read more
