Located on Central Ave. in Hartsdale, this place is like sewing machines gone wild. I didn't inherit my Mom's 70+ years seamstress genes. So when I needed zipper repairs, sleeves shortened, slacks hemmed, etc, I'd take my stuff to her- to avoid paying an arm and a leg at the cleaners. Plus I love when she fixes my clothes =^-^=. Wouldn't you? But I've been amped up the last few months to get my own basic sewing machine for small stuff like stitching, tears, etc. Hubs beat me to the punch though and gave me a portable Singer sewing machine for Christmas. I've kept mine in the box because I didn't know what to do with it. Plus the little bit of sewing I do know, I learned in an old-fashioned sewing machine when I was a kid and felt stumped with Singer's updated models. Hubs told me Mitch (owner) is always here and if I needed brush-up sewing lessons to stop by. Not only did Mitch and I sit together and had me practice threading the machine needle, and using the different stitch design knob- but I also purchased the necessary fabric scissors, small thread scissors and black and white spool threads. He was super patient and I seriously didn't feel rushed. I paid $30 for all my items and he threw in a black thread on the house. Thank you! By the way- storefront parking isn't always convenient. Mitch reminded me I should move my car otherwise I'd be screwed with a $75 ticket on a no-parking spot. But you can park further up by Fantasy Cuisine or...across the street. I brought in a brother sewing machine that attacked me twice. The needle exploded on to me when I was trying to thread the bobbin. Instead of pressing my luck further, and getting no result from taking it apart, I decided to get professional help. Most of my Google searches resulted in Queens locations, which were hard to get to until I found this shop in Hartsdale. Not only did he know his stuff, but he showed me a box of brother bobbin corpses from other people who brought in machines that malfunctioned. Apparently, these machines are notorious for bobbin breakage and malfunction. It has a 6-month life span and I got about 1-month out of it. It would have cost more to repair than buy a new one, but I wanted to exhaust that option first. He recommended a replacement and took money off for my machine trade-in! I'm happy to have found someone knowledgable and reliable to not only recycle my old machine but get me one that will last me for a good long time. read more

Mr. Mitchell is amazing at repairing sewing machines. I took my Janome machine here for a tune up and he fixed it, quickly. He also gave me advice on how to keep it in good working condition for longer since I am a novice sewer. He gave me tips on which needles would work best for certain fabrics. You won't find this kind of service at the generic box stores. I am definitely going to be returning. read more

After sewing 100+ masks for the local MasksForNY effort, my mom's 1959 Singer (a Cadillac - a 401A) desperately needed servicing since it hadn't been serviced for over 40 years and was acting up. I thought I'd have to wait until after the pandemic. Based on Yelp reviews here, I decided to call Sewing Machines. Mr. Mitchell discussed the issues with me, and I was able to safely drop it off curbside that afternoon. I picked up the machine the following day, in excellent working order.
