Service was good, but the kitchen was a bit slow. The food was excellent. 3 of us chose steak and eggs. The steak was easily the start of the meal. So delicious I wished I ordered it. The home fries were also amazing. I had the Starry breakfast. Basically it was bacon and eggs. Over medium eggs were perfect. Bacon was good not great. My son ordered French toast and it was super sweet but delicious. The orange cream on it was especially good. Definitely recommend brunch here.

It's that a friend treated me here because I did all the driving in and around the Green Mountains of Vermont to look at the scenery. Starry Night Cafe' is about fine dining. It's also about "new" cuisine, so that means creative culinary takes on what could be ordinary dishes. Sometimes I'll buy into the concept of "new" and sometimes I won't. Either way, the food here is not meant to be just like it is at all those other restaurants! The two chosen starters were a Caesar-like salad and a cheese plate. I liked my salad, but felt the cheese plate didn't have much to it, although the cheese was of high quality and good. The entrees selected were the mafaldine pasta and the salmon. My friend thought the salmon was good, and I thought my pasta was very good. Portions were about right for fine dining and, thankfully, not abysmally small. The mafaldine's presentation looked green as if it the sauce might be pesto, but it is not. It's a spinach pasta. Also, note that these are pronounced "mah-fahl-deen-eh" and not "mah-fahl-deen." A dessert was ordered and it featured berries and cream. I tried a little bit of it and it was delicious. The bread that arrived at the beginning of the meal was excellent. The serving staff seemed excited about the vaudouvan butter. This name doesn't mean anything to me. Should it? The menu mentioned that the butter was flavored with curry. I hesitated and was told that it was a French curry. I wondered how that might be different. Still, no matter how much or how little you use of it, the aftertaste lingers for too long. I did not like this nifty butter. Starry Night Cafe' looks inconspicuous from the parking lot. Once inside, there are several nice rooms in which to eat and you initially see a tastefully appointed bar. Each of the dining spaces has a slightly different personality. There are even outdoor spaces flanked by a large pond that would have worked well if it wasn't as humid as it was that day. Even the restrooms are decked out, right down to what might be oil paintings by local artists ... and the restrooms even smell good! The name of the restaurant does indeed refer to the work of Vincent Van Gogh. The service is excellent. They both explain the dishes you inquire about and answer other questions you might have. Being my usual self, I was observing and making assessments of the situation, such as the service and its style. It was funny in that it tried to be informal and even a little folksy, given that it's Vermont, when it is in fact fine dining. In reality, the real vibe was that the interaction was more formal than in many nicer restaurants, whether rural or urban. With that said, Starry Night is an expensive restaurant. I asked my friend about all the 5 star ratings. My friend said that, for Vermont, it is probably a 5 star event, but if it was in New York City and its environs, it would most likely fetch 4 stars. I'll go with that logic. The entree and the dessert were very tasty, but I did not like there being a polarizing spice in the butter, nor the small portion of the (other person's) cheese plate. I did appreciate the curated atmosphere and the professional service. Starry Night Cafe' made for a very interesting experience. I chose things from the menu that worked for me. I'm glad that I was taken here to eat, and I'm (humorously) stressing the words "taken here."

My wife and I were in town on vacation, and we were looking for a restaurant that had some vegan options. I messaged the restaurant via their Facebook page to ask if they had anything vegan on the menu. I received this response: "Hi there! We can definitely accommodate! The ramen is vegan, but we are tweaking the menu that is posted online so there may be several more options than not posted. But, we can also create something special on the fly! Thanks so much for coming in!" As it turns out, though, the curry ramen was made with chicken stock, according to our waitress. She went to talk to the chef to see if he could recommend anything. My wife and I could hear their conversation, and we clearly heard the chef say, "I got nothing for them". Really? A chef in a nice restaurant couldn't come up with anything vegan, not even some pasta with marinara or a quick stir-fry? My wife and I were there early, right around 5:00 PM, and there was literally no one else in the restaurant, so it's not like the kitchen was busy. Surely the chef could have whipped-up something vegan if he wanted to. The waitress was very nice and quite apologetic. My wife and I ordered drinks and then went down the street to another restaurant that had two vegan options on the menu. I'm giving barVino two stars just because the waitress was really nice to us, and it wasn't her fault.

We felt lucky to get a table in this summer of 21 with limited open restaurants, limited staff and gazillions of people visiting the most vaccinated state. Reservation is recommended. ++. They have additional tables on the side street, small porch, hi-tops and bar seating and the garage doors and the front door were open so we felt more comfortable for safety inside DR. +. Food wise, it's updated pub fare. Bar Antidote is a part of Hired Hand Brewing but it's a real resto rather than an afterthought food for people on a brew tour. That said, Antidote has a good size offering for brews and cocktails. All their martinis you can opt for a sidecar. Our glasses were always filled and she checked on us several times! +. Price was reasonable. When our waitress asked how everything was we indicated that the corn wasn't fresh and flavorless. After, she told us she shared it with the chef... it was still too early for local corn apparently and she took it off our bill. +. They were voted 2019 #2 Best Restaurant in the Rutland area and I think they were robbed. My husband began the night by choosing a menu option that allows customers to buy the back of the house staff a round of cream ale which causes them to erupt in kitchenware percussion and celebratory hooting. The Potato Leek soup was velvety and delicious. They served us the best fried Brussel Sprouts that I have ever eaten. They were crispy, well seasoned and the aioli was also good but they didn't even need it. I am not much of a drinker but their specialty margarita was so well made (and strong) that had I not already gotten quite precious after the first one, I would have ordered another. My husband liked the cauliflower, squash mac and cheese special. My mushroom ravioli with capers and cream sauce were also delicious. We finished up with a house made lemon-lime cheese cake. Usually, citrus is not welcome in my dessert. I prefer chocolates, cookies and caramels in my cheesecake. I want to know that my Diabetic Ketoacidosis Emergency admission to a backwater hospital was well earned. However, it was delicious. The service was friendly and unpretentious, in my adorable, slightly drunken state I became absolutely thrilled when one of the waitresses was publicly gifted with a Plague Doctor Squishable (look them up).
