The front of the house and wait staff are fantastic. However, I do not understand the hype of this established hallmark of Schroon Lake eateries. After waiting apx 40 minutes for my single meal, my food was cold despite the bottom of my plate being hot. I ordered the Country Benedict which is, essentially, sausage gravey and biscuits with sausage patties and pouched eggs. The eggs were poached to an over hard consistency, there was maybe, at most, two tablespoons of bland and flavorless sausage gravy, cold sausage patties that had no flavor and were a lesser quality than McDonald's sausage patties, and the biscuits were overcooked and flavorless. Since my food was taking incredibly long, I orders a piece of coconut custard pie. The custard was perfection, the crust was absolutely flavorless, and I wonder if it was made of just flour, Crisco, and water. There didn't seem to be any salt...think of a saltiness cracker. My waitress was incredibly kind and comped me the pie for the cold food and, when my new "hot" plate of food came out, it was warm, not hot, however the eggs were properly poached. For the life of me, I have no idea why this place is always packed other than the WOL people have few options for dining in Schroon. It's such a shame because Pitkin's has been around for a long time. My suggestion, if you want a good home cooked breakfast, skip Pitkin's and take the scenic drive to Mama's Cafe in Fort Edward. I promise you, it's worth the drive alone. read more

I went to Pitkin's and -surprise! I did not order my regular menu items! I had a brunch with eggs, hash browns and corned beef hash: all very good and perfectly prepared. But instead of my regular chocolate cream or coconut cream pies, there was something new: Lemon Cheesecake. Now, I'm a huge fan of the Lemon Cheese Pie at Innovo Kitchen in Niskayuna, so I hesitated. It's not good to compare if it's probably not going to be the same, and you really want the other one. But I took the risk and was very pleased. The cheesecake was light and the lemon topping was tart. Not the same, but different and still delicious. I'll definitely have it again. read more

It was busy, make an reservation, but it was a quick turnaround. We found this place by luck on our way up to Canada. The small area is very cute, but let me tell you about the food: it was good. The star of the show was the pie. I got the raspberry rhubarb , the salty flaky buttery crust is perfect (because I am having it for breakfast). The sweetness of the berries, tangyness of the rhubarb and salty flakiness of the crust.. amazing! I might be interested in picking up a whole pie when I return home. What a treat! My husband loved the rice pudding. My cousin got the French onion soup and she mentioned it was good and she loved how the baguette/bread had texture and feels the toast of the bread, not too salty. read more

Had both a delicious lunch and then a supper here--service was nice and food was solid--good. Service was attentive. Nothing crazy or "innovative" but that's exactly what we wanted. We loved it so much, we came back for another round! We discovered Pitkin's Restaurant during an impromptu stay in Schroon Lake to catch the nearby Ski Jumping World Cup. Both times we went for breakfast, we were seated immediately in a cozy booth, surrounded by small tables, chairs, and green booths. The walls are decorated with historical photos, perfectly complementing the intricate tin ceiling. The staff was friendly and attentive, and both times we had our meals in no time. As a self-proclaimed breakfast enthusiast, I couldn't resist their Hearty and Meat Lover's Breakfasts. The eggs were fluffy, the hash browns crispy, the bacon perfectly salty, and the pancakes were as pillowy as they come. I absolutely love hearty pancakes, though I can rarely finish them because they're so filling. This time, they were so good, I couldn't stop. We stopped here for dinner on a Sunday night, and it's a local favorite. The place is clean and the staff were attentive. The food was decent. I had the boathouse sandwich. We shared the wedge salad. Oddly enough, the wedge part was all cut up. The blue cheese dressing was a little too tangy for me, it tasted like it was a yogurt based dressing. My lovely lady had the ribs. They were very tender and had a vinegar based sauce. They fell off the bone and were good. Her daughter opted for Curley fries. The roast beef was okay but the cheese, and onion on grilled sourdough was the best part. The star of the night was the dessert. My husband & I ordered takeout for breakfast. It was very easy to place an order online and it was ready to go when I came to pick it up. I ordered the ham, onions, peppers and cheese omelet. It came with hash browns and a choice of bread. The price was great and it came with a large portion size. It was not the best quality food as I would compare it to Dennys or IHop's omelets. Really good service with a smile and m quite fast considering it was pretty crowded for Thursday afternoon. Had a roasted turkey sandwich. The turkey was delicious. Not a ton of meat, but it hit the spot. And didn't really find the apples that were supposed to be on the sandwich. But it did pack a really flavorful bite. Passing through and decided to stop in to this place based on reviews. Checked in at the front and was told about 5 mins. I watched 4 other groups of 2-4 get seated almost immediately. I went back up and checked in. The lady said "oh sorry" the other lady was seating people without looking at the computer waitlist. We were seated immediately after that. Once we sat down, the waiter, Dan, promptly attended to us. We placed our order for drinks and food. He brought our drinks out and left. We never saw him again until our food came out. My drink was empty and never ask me for refill. He walked past us about 5-7 times and never stopped when I had my glass empty at the edge of the table. The next time he came to us was when our food was gone and asked us for dessert. I would have liked to try dessert but I was over the service at that point and wanted to get back on the road. When I went to pay at the counter, no one was there and Dan looked confused after I asked who do I pay? It seemed like it was chaos and no one had a system of seating people or they just weren't following the procedure. The food was average, my fries were cold and stale like they had been sitting in the dry basket for a while. The Rueben sandwich hardly had any sauerkraut. read more

I cannot say one bad word about our lunch experience here. Hubby and I stopped in to grab lunch on Friday 10/21. We were super hungry since we had just drive the 5 hours from our house to the cabin we were staying at in North River. Wanting to grab a bite, Pitkin's popped up on my search and off we went. Hot coffee for sure and I ordered the patty melt, hubby had a burger I think, honestly I can't remember, I'm going to have to look at the receipt and update you. Anyway- patty melts are a thing for me, it's like a classic comfort food, if I see it on the menu and they don't have a tune melt or french dip.. I'm order a patty melt. That crispy toasted rye bread, and melty cheese over a meat patty and those grilled onion, heck yes!!! My lunch was delicious. Staff was so freindly and after seeing all the old photos on the wall of the area and Pitkin's, my hubby called his mom and asked her if she and his dad ever at there-- so, she got so excited and said yes they did a lot. His parents had a summer house like directly across the other side of Schroon Lake, so as we talked to her she said go look at the house and take pictures, she hadn't seen it in years. We ordered takeout while in Schroon Lake for a few nights and this place was a winner and our first choice in places to try while in town. We ordered the Paradox Panini and the Tangler Burger and they were both phenomenal and held up well during our short commute back to our Air BnB. This is a very cute diner with solid breakfast options. My breakfast sandwich was eggscellent (see what I did there?). The cinnamon roll pancakes were intriguing but fell flat. Turns out they are just pancakes with some cinnamon. They were nice and fluffy though. Nothing special.
