After a long drive to spent the weekend in VT, we were happy to come across this restaurant and have some good food. After entering the restaurant, we were confused because it was two sections, one was a deli counter and another is the small dining area. Sat down and ordered. I got the steak and fries, I enjoyed it. Definitely can be a bit seasoned and buttery. The truffle fries is sooooo good! The calamari was good as well. Service at first was okay. We came into Castelton on a snowy evening so we was very happy to see a restaurant still open. The best thing we had were the truffle fries. Everything else was okay. The steak was cooked perfectly but wished it was seasoned properly. The pasta Mediterranean should be taken off the menu all together. The sauce was watery and overcooked noodles. Took a large group here. With lots of kids. There was plenty of room for us. They put tables together for us. I called ahead and the lady answered all my question. The pizza was huge! The wings were good! I appreciated the attentive care they gave our large group. And how the pizza went a long way. While they did end up over charging on our bill and I didn't notice until we got home. I was still happy with the experience and will return. read more

When I walked into the restaurant it smelled like burgers and pizza. It was nice. I ordered a rocket burger that came with a really good sauce. The rocket burger had fresh lettuce with fresh tomatoes. The bun was buttery and crispy. The burger was juicy and the fries were crispy. There was also a lot chip selection. I recommend getting the rocket burger with extra rocket sauce . Next time I go to the gym I'll make sure to go back there. read more

We liked the Blue Cat, located in the same building as the pizza shop on Castleton's main street. Small, intimate and cozy atmosphere, they have great service and a decent, ever-changing menu. They serve meats and a variety of pastas and Italian dishes. A wine list has a good selection and lots of by-the-glass selections. Make reservations as they only have about eight tables, so space is limited. Desserts are very decadent and delicious. read more

We stopped by for lunch while looking at homes in the area. I had the special, burger and fries for $5! The bun was toasted, burger cooked perfect, fresh crisp lettuce, tomato, 2 slices, fries piping hot and a side of ketchup on the plate. What a great lunch! Had some blue berry soda which was quite tasty. Friends lunch was just as good. Where they make the sandwiches was impeccably clean, all the vegetable were fresh and crisp. A little little difficult to find but with the hunt. Very cutely decorated and has a nice feel to it. The herbed complimentary bread is delicious and starts the meal off right. We go there a few days a week. Usually good-free wings Thursday & Friday then stay for dinner!! The menu on the webpage is over a year out of date. I asked for items on that menu no can get. I feel it is false advertisement & asked the update the menu but no luck. There is no excuse for this! Maybe this review will get some action. Fingers crossed. I had their famous Lemon Chicken, and I liked it quite a bit. I thought the sauce was especially flavorful, with a bit of sweet lemon, but overall very creamy and savory. The free bread they had were pretty tasty as well. It's a bit confusing to find, as it's somewhat behind the pizza place/deli, but part of the same building. I loved that they offer local beers, and the dining room is such a deep, lovely blue. read more

I have been there twice lately and I hit the bullseye with the food and drinks : delicious food (fish tacos one day and ribeye the next, were excellent) and there was an ample offering of wines and mixed drinks. Beers good also. It's sad they don't open for a full menu dinner every day though. Only Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays (and Saturdays ? ...) If it had a lake view it would be tops, but a slice of the view of almost quaint Castleton is good enough. read more

My wife and I come here often. Our daughter was a server here for a short time, so we've become familiar with the staff. The recognize us every time and treat us with some extra attention - even the newly hired staff who never worked with our daughter. We always enjoy eating at the Blue Cat; it's one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Our favorite entrees are the Eggplant Parmesan and the Chicken Chèvre. I think we've tried just about everything on the regular menu, and some of the specials; I don't think we've ever been disappointed in a meal. No matter what you choose, it will be a win. read more

I feel like giving it 1 star is over rating it. We were going to order take out pizza,a large for $18.75. We were told over the phone the same pizza would be only $5.00 if we ate at the restaurant and enjoyed a drink. We had never been there before. We go in and sit at a booth , we wait and wait , several staff there, no one comes to help us. My husband walks over to the counter and gets our pizza we had ordered over the phone himself. We are told a waitress will bring plates and napkins. We wait and wait , no one comes , pizza now getting cold. We had to go find staff to get our own plates. No one came to take a drink order, had to go to bar and get our own drinks. We noticed other customers being waited on with no issue and it really was not busy. The food is okay but what's not okay is falls advertising on there online menu. If you call in and order to pick up, expect to pay extra! I ordered a $15.95 slice of lasagna and they charged me $17.95. Two waitresses clame there prices have gone up since the online menu was made. Like it's my fault. One of them mentioned it had been like that for almost a year now. I wouldn't care so much if it was a week or so but a year is way too long sand considered falls advertising. Have been here before and usually have excellent service and food so I'm hesitant to give only one star. However, earlier this evening we checked to make sure they would be open since we were arriving around 8:45. The hours were listed online as closing at 10pm. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot at 8:45 an employee ran to the door and locked it and shut the lights off. If their closing time is actually nine then they should change their hours online. Also, their employees could have a bit more tact in dealing with our situation. It was really awful to see an employee run to the door to lock us out. read more

The friends who were with us on our prior visit, tried the Blue Cat Bistro again this year, and found that the service was still horrible, but the food was very good. I guess some things will never change. This is my favorite local "go to" place for a well prepared meal, fair prices, atmosphere and decent service. Occasionally it's been a bit slow, but worth the wait. I have tried many of the entrees and there are no losers. Local in season produce is usually used. Desserts are awesome. There are really 2 dining experiences here: the pizza/deli in the front, or the sit down restaurant in the back. If I am too full for dessert or want an economic treat, the chocolate/ peanut butter bar cookies at the deli are a fabulous "to go" dessert to grab on the way out. I feel fortunate to live close to this place...advantages of a college town! read more

I spend a good bit of time in Castleton during the summers, and I finally made it to the Blue Cat Bistro over 4th of July weekend. What a pleasant surprise this place was. The service was friendly, if a bit nervous. The menu is pretty straightforward and includes a number of Italian selections and burgers. I enjoyed the Mediterranean pasta entree. This was a perfect portion size of well-cooked linguine topped with mushrooms, onions, spinach, and sun dried tomatoes. Really tasty. I was also happy to see Switchback, a Burlington-brewed beer, on tap. That's always a treat for me. The others in my party ordered burgers and everyone enjoyed them. Finally, the space itself in the Blue Cat is beautiful. The ceiling is made to look like a planetarium or night sky, and is really unusual and interesting. The decor was very tasteful and the small bar area was really cute and inviting. I will definitely visit the Blue Cat again in the future. read more

The service and welcome we received here was wonderful and that was the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, the food wasn't what we had hoped for. My husband ordered a pizza and it was kind of middle-of-the-road all right. My son had the ravioli and it wasn't that warm and was pretty bland. I ordered the Pasta Mediterranean and the mushrooms were gummy (canned), and the sauce was weird, kind of like sweet-and-sour sauce from a takeout Chinese restaurant. I couldn't muster up the motivation to eat more than a few bites of it. If we came back, it would be to get a pizza fix and not to experiment with any new concoctions. read more

Disappointed. We have been here several times and tonight was not the best we have experienced. The veal Marsala had great flavors, but was the toughest veal I have ever had anywhere. The carrot parsnip concoction was only slightly warm. We were never offered bread of any kind with our meal. We skipped dessert. The house salad with maple vinaigrette is always good. We tipped well, though, hoping it was just an off night. We heard the next table having a terrible time with their order as well. read more

Advised the waitress who agreed but chef said it was the type of meat due to beef cattle being grass fed etc. May try again but without the burger! My family has eaten here at least 6 times, so it is with a heavy heart that I must admit tonight was our last attempt. The food is reasonably good - if you're not looking for something widely good, you should be happy enough here - but do not order the burger! Always dry. However, something is ALWAYS wrong. Tonight a topping was left off my husband's pizza and the onions were left off my meal. This was after a half an hour wait to get out food - and we were one of 2 tables in there. The waitress was apologetic about the missing ingredients, but not worried enough to replace them or adjust our bill - more like, "I'm so sorry about that." but then nothing. I'm sad to say that this is the norm there. Why would we eat there 6 times if something is usually wrong? Truth is there is just not that many options here and it looks nice, so sort of good to bring company too - you just have make a bunch of disclaimers before you get there and ask to keep a menu so you can compare what you get with what you ordered. read more
