My husband loves bean pies and we have been on the hunt for a good one ever since we left SD, CA. We went to Long Beach for a cruise and after our cruise we decided to drive to this bakery which my husband researched sells bean pies. When we got there, the place looked vacant. No cars in the parking lot and when we entered the front door, the place was empty and there was one customer waiting for a sandwich. The owner told us that since it was during the holidays (day after Thanksgiving) they don't cook any food but still sold pies. They had a menu that we looked at but only bought 3 bean pies. We should have known to just leave since the place looked like it was a ghost town set but still decided to try the pies. We drove home which was about 4 hour drive to Vegas and tried the bean pies. I grew up in the 70s and 80s and my parents were Muslim and this is the closest place in Los Angeles that has the quality and taste like the Muslim food places back in da day. My go to is the Fish burger either whiting or red snapper either grill or fried depending on if I'm in a healthy mood or not. It comes on a wheat burger bun toasted, lettuce. It's yummy and I have to follow up with bean pie, pineapple cheese or blueberry cheese pies. I eat it so often when I call the owner knows me and always wants me to try the curry chicken, rice and peas. I'm a creature of habit and haven't tried it yet. Simply Wholesome market introduced the bean pie to me when I was shopping for shea butter. I saw the pie near the register and was intrigued since I never had a bean pie before. OMG I was floored on how delicious it was and how it hasn't been in my life earlier. I looked up Shabazz Bakery and found out the location. That's the tricky part cuz it's near the airport and it's hard to create a "reason" to drive out there with other activities. But I had to go there so it took me 2 weeks to finally get over there. I knew I was going to get a bean pie but what other new flavors to try? Decided on carrot pie. So amazing I can eat that in heavy rotation weekly and not feel guilty at all about it (it's a vegetable!) Oh man can't wait to eat their inventory. Located in Inglewood across the street from Woody's Barbeque. A small place that kicks out good HEALTHY FOOD! plenty of parking which is always key. When I walk-in the place it smells like my mother is in the kitchen cooking! Again! HEALTHY FOOD. I had grilled Snapper dinner that was season very well, steamed vegetables. Which consist of carrots, broccoli and Cauliflower flower. where in the city can u get Cauliflower? and we all know the Health benefits of that. Bean soup with wheat muffins... Where in the city do they serve wheat muffins? The portion size is on point. Just enough to sustain you! and the service is good as well. The Menu is not that large but the food is worth the visit. I don't know how this place has so many stars?!!!! How do you call yourself a bakery and you don't have anything (cookies, cake, etc)? I went to buy some cookies because my dad always comes here and they didn't have nothing?!!!! And then, the lady had the nerve to tell me that the only cookies she had were from last week & they would be getting some fresh ones tomorrow?! I was like huh? You don't make them fresh daily here? This isn't the first time I've gotten bad pies from here either. It tastes like something is missing. The lady who works here is also very dry and rude. She answers the phone rude and when you come in to buy something she doesn't act like she appreciates your business. Why businesses have people working there who clearly act like they don't want to be there is beyond me. such a humble little bakery. the place is like super low-key hole-in-the-wall kind of place. parking was quarters metered parking only. the pies were behind the glass case, and the lady explained to me what kinds she had that day. i pretty much got all the slices because they looked so good. i really enjoyed the plain bean pie, the blueberry one, and the carrot one was great. they were all made of beans but they are incredibly LIGHT. and so tasty. i've never had something like this before. recommend it if you are in the area. just do a pit stop and grab a slice to go! read more

Rosalie is kind and very professional. She makes ordering easy and her food is simply delicious. I still am trying to find the bean soup recipe, it has a very soft taste and goes excellent with the wheat muffins. The fish dinners can be grilled or fried, and when fried are nothing even close to oily or greasy. JUST MAKE SURE TO POKE HOLES INTO THE CONTAINER IF YOU GET THE FISH TO GO... Bean pies are ok. Went here cuz my usual guy on stocker by the liquor bank was MIA and heard this place was good. Somebody lied. I love bean pies so much I would eat them all day if I could. I love them so much I'm trying to figure out how to make them. But this recipe has to be the worlds best kept secret. The consistency was a little tuff and the top was separating from the rest of the pie. Like there was space between the top darker brown layer and the bottom custard layer. Idk what happened here.
