Haven't came here for many years. We were the only customers here. The host greeted us and was friendly. After seating, it took 10 minutes for a waitress to attend us. We each ordered a combo. They definitely increased their prices. Their beef quality was mediocre and the plate of veggies that comes with it had little dust and dirt particles on the veggies. One of the veggie plate didn't come with corn. Their soy sauce was extremely watered down. The utensils wasn't clean and had dried up leftover food on it. My bowl had dried up chili flakes. Overall, it's not hygienic here with food and utensils. Our waitress was attentive since we were the only customers there. I wouldn't return here again. read more

I love this place ! The setting is small but the service is fast and great. You can choose to sit inside or outside and there are a bunch of bubble tea shops around it. The parking is okay it's all street parking but there's a parking lot behind Danny's Hardware store if needed. I usually get the Tom yum (spicy) & Miso as my soup base. A very very clean ayce hot pot restaurant! The tom yum broth is amazing and has great flavor to it. There's a pretty big selection of broth, and a lot of people like kimchi or curry. I would suggest skipping out on the pho broth, because it's so bland and actually tastes like the house broth (would not recommend either). The portions here are EXTREMELY consistent. They will give you exactly the portion you order every single time. On the plus side, you can order half orders!! I know sometimes I can't finish a full order, so order half to be on the safe side! Been going to shabu since the day they opened and have never been so disappointed til today. Went there with a party of 6 to celebrate two friends birthday and was given a 30 minute wait time. After waiting for approx 40 minutes we see one table opened up and the table beside it also finishing up. But then the host decided to seat a party of three that came into the restaurant way after us in the empty table. We asked the host immediately why was that party seated before my party and his response was, "your party did not tell me you could separate". We were completely lost of words... the tables were directly beside each other... how are we separated? The only thing that "separated" the table was that it was not able to be pushed together. Totally did not make any sense. Host was questioned a few more time and not once ever apologized and just kept placing blames on us. My friends and I continued to wait another 40 minutes in frustration while everyone that had came after us had already been seated and finishing up their meals. We decided to take our business elsewhere since the host obviously did not care for our business. Completely wasted our time. What a shame, we will be taking our business elsewhere from now on. Been here a handful of times for their lunch AYCE special and it's the best deal in town! Very fresh and high quality meats, and a great selection! GiGi behind the bar is so sweet and very knowledgeable, she'll help walk you through their extensive menu. I respect people who love a spicy or specialty broth, but the clean, lovely flavors of the basic broth make me want for nothing. Besides, I can add the red pepper flakes from my condiment selection to the soy sauce and the broth and still get my spice fix without wrecking the zen feeling of the whole thing for me. * Beef: heavenly. So thin, so tasty, so texturally perfect. * Veggies: plentiful! I love the basic veggie selection, although the 2 times I've been there, they've been out of broccoli :(. Still, nice variety. * Yam noodles: nomnomnom. So I have been back on numerous occasions only because it's so conveniently located for me. Last friday on a beautiful summerish spring day, I got a chance to dine al fresco SHABU style. If you have yet to try then you should definitely go. Who say you can't have hot pot when the weather is nice. We stop by with a large crowd and asked to be seated out door and they were very gracious about it. It's patio style seating but the service was still excellent as always and the food to boot! But this place blew me away. The food was absolutely stuff-myself-silly delicious. The veggies were fresh (taro toot, yum!!), the chicken was tasty, and the beef just melted in my mouth. The basic broth was so tasty that I don't actually -need- to try the others -- but on the other hand, given that the basic is so yummy, I won't be able to resist. The service was very attentive given the fact that every seat in the place was full, with our order taken quickly, our food brought quickly, and my soda kept full. Nom nom nom nom nom! (One nom for ever star). I went here with the lovely Roni E. and Becki W. for some Shabu awesomeness. This was my first Shabu experience, and a great one at that! Its fairly small inside but the set up maximizes the space and the decor is really nice. They have tons of choices for soup bases, meats, veggies, and noodles/rice. I had the kimchi base with udon, veggies, and sirloin. SO good. In fact, I am so stuffed as I write this that I don't think I will have to eat for the next 24 hours. They were really good about monitoring the heat levels of the pots which was great since I had no clue what I was doing. Everything was delicious, including the amazing fried ice cream we had after. They also have smoothies with boba available which is a huge plus. Staff was all uber friendly and welcoming. Prices were reasonable and presentation as great. Shabu Restaurant has claimed the spot in my heart once reserved for Shabu Zen. Lemme break it down. Location: SUPER easy to get to. Just a short walk from North Quincy (Very much not a short walk from Quincy Center...oops) Atmosphere: Effing cute! Mod without coming off as pretentious. I liked the retro fabric mixed with the sleek tables and chairs. Well played. Service: Could have been a smidge more attentive but since we effectively took over the entire restaurant there were no major complaints. Though our table ordered a bubble tea that never arrived. Food: Hold up! This is where they really shine. They have a ton of broth choices (only complaint is they charge to have a veg broth there should be one of each I think) which is a nice way to start the meal. They also have great combination options as well as à la carte choices. To start we chose the vegetable gyoza (kudos for having these). They were good despite a momentary panic as to whether they were actually vegetable. (This was dealt with beautifully by the staff) The owners also sent over some clams with black bean sauce. Phenomenal. I would have never thought...but WOW. For my main course I went with the vegetarian combination and was blown away. The plate was mounded with fresh vegetables, greens, mushrooms, vermicelli, tofu, and DUMPLINGS. Veggie dumplings in spinach wraps. YES PLEASE. The plate was filled with win from them alone, sweet Jebus they were good. The vegetable broth was super good as well and really brought the vegetables to life. Dessert: mochi!!! They give you two which wins from the get-go but these two are actually a bit larger than others I have seen as well. WIN WIN. Side note: One of the owners, trying to help, accidentally topped our vegetable broth off with pork. Without a moments hesitation and despite our protests that we were almost done anyway he replaced our entire pot. Unnecessary, but it shows this is a stand-up place willing to go the extra mile for the customer. Five stars for that kind of service. In summary: Shabu Restaurant is not to be missed. The staff must've been thinking pigs can fly when a group of 30 odd people magically appeared out of nowhere and packed the restaurant to capacity at 3 on a Sunday afternoon. Score 1 for the takeover. Score 2 for the vegetarians bleeding the kitchen dry of vegetables. Poor staff, poor patrons. No more veggies for you but all for me and mine shabu enjoyment. ;) I was mightily impressed with the decor and cleanliness of the facilities. Especially in the individual hotpot counter, cause sometimes, sharing is overrated. The ingredients in the seafood deluxe were fresh as were the vegetables. The kimchee, Sichuan spicy and cilantro w/ preserved egg soup bases were all yums but the lack of abundant raw materials left me scouring for more food for my tummy. I've been coming to this establishment since they've opened. At first everything was great, the food was delicious, and the staff was amazing. My family and friends loved going there. Over the summer with work i really haven't had the chance to go there and eat, and recently i've been eating there more often. I didn't recognize any of the staff there which was sad since my friend went to high school with a couple girls who used to work there and she was excited to talk to them. The service has gone down dramatically, my friend and i both work in this business and hate complaining but it's just awful. We keep going back thinking hopefully the staff was still training or had a bad day but nothing's improving. Every single time we went there to eat, they would forget to bring out something we've ordered. It probably doesn't help that one of the waitresses doesn't write anything down when she takes your order. But then again, we had another waitress another time who wrote our whole entire order down, charged us for an app we never received lol. I didn't catch her name but there is one waitress that's been there every single time i go in to eat and i'm starting to think she just plain out has something against me, and my friend thinks so too. I don't know if she's in the weed's, but she's given us a sassy attitude with a fake smile every single time we go in and we always feel like she's rushing us to get out so the next table can come in. I've never once complained or asked to get food sent back, i always tip 20% even if the service was terrible, just because i like to give the benefit of the doubt.. Though Little Q was sentenced to death, shabu will not die in Quincy. This new space (a sister to Beni Cafe down the street) is brand new and still flxing out the kinks, as is to be expected. Everything of importance is in place: the ingredients are fresh and varied and the staff is friendly and supportive to novices. The broth selection has (greatly appreciated) variety; err on the side of spicy, as these have wonderful, enveloping heat. Seafood, tofu, and mushrooms are recommended; avoid the turkey, which is a odd choice. The full menu has been gradually unveiled (which makes sense to me. It's not a contract, people.) and once its promise is fully realized, I'm confident this will be a destination. read more

For my first Shabu experience, I'm glad it was at a place like this... and with people who knew what the heck they were doing. I got the meat combo with beef and lamb, and was at a pot with regular, and Spicy Szechaun Broth. Very very yummy... although I did get the "mom" lecture from my Shabu partners in crime for not eating more of my veggies... so I threw them into their pot and they got to enjoy them. What can I say.. I like meat.... ;-) I also tried the mochi ice cream... red bean and mango. The red bean was interesting, it had almost a "nutty" taste to it, like pistachio or something... mango was delish. All in all, I had a wonderful time at Shabu Restaurant... and am SUPER excited it's just a 9 min drive from my house (much longer to take the T since I'd have to go to JFK and then switch lines from Ashmont to Braintree)... and I'm sure I'll go here again. read more

As my third Shabu Experience, Shabu Restaurant, despite it's generic name, was anything but boring. The experience is five-star status all the way: the food was fresh, the portions were plentiful and the broths were tasty! From the appetizers (scallion pancakes and edemame) to the dessert (fried ginger ice cream and these little balls of dough filled with more ice cream!) the food was definetely one of the high points! The service was on-point, especially considering that about 25 of us rolled up into the place after an exhilarating afternoon at the gun range, all hopped up on adrenaline and completely famished. The staff didn't miss a beat...everything came out in a timely fashion, and the owner even brought us over samples to try of other dishes, on the house! Shabu has a nice layout for groups (as big as 25!!) and is great for individual experiences and even dates! A must-see/do/eat for those in the market for a delicious fun-with-food time! read more

I feel so lucky to live down the street from Shabu. Shabu is quite simply the best hot-pot restaurant in the Boston area. Case in point: Yesterday, the restaurant was packed with tourists, who braved the Red Line shuttle all the way to North Quincy, just to try this place. I asked them, do you regret it? "No" they enthusiastically replied. And for the record, I also do not regret eating my weight in Tom Yum broth and Kobe beef. Things of note: Shabu offers all you can eat Lunch buffet on weekdays from 11 am - 4pm for $22. The buffet includes everything: meat, noodles, veggies, refill on broths, seafood, etc, all for only $22 per person. If the restaurant believes you didn't eat $22 worth of food, they will only charge you per item. Shabu also offers all you can eat dinner, Monday-Wednesday, from 4pm - 11pm, for $30 per person with the same terms and conditions. If you are going the a la carte route- I recommend ordering the Meat, Veggie or Seafood Combo deals. A regular meat combo - allows you a choice of two meats, plus your choice of noodles (small bowl) and an assortment of veggies (large plate) for $16. The Supreme Meat offers your choice of three for $21. If you are trying to figure out how much to order- Jason and L usually get a regular meat combo, one small size of shrimp, and an extra side of veggies, and we end up stuffed. Shabu's dining room is tiny- with only 6 tables, a small bar area, and a seasonal outdoor patio. They do not take recommendations, so get there early and be prepared to wait- It is worth it. I've tried a variety of their broths but my favorites are the Tom Yum and the Japanese curry. The Tom Yum is definitely spicy- but adds an awesome flavor to both beef and chicken. The heat coming from the soup plus the spiciness of the broth definitely makes you feel blissed out and head-y, in an almost euphoric state. The Japanese curry is a thicker broth that comes with potatoes and carrots. It tastes really good with veggies- especially cabbage and greens. Get your sake cold. The sake is high quality, very smooth- not biting like cheaper brands. A large size equals approximately 2-3 glasses - if split between two people. Shabu shares owners with Yocha- so if you mention to your waiter you are headed there for desert- they will give you a coupon packet! So being Asian means growing up with traditional hot pot at home, and tons of restaurant-style hot pot with fancy soup bases. Hubby and I have been to our share of all the hot pot places in the south shore and in the city. When this place first opened, we tried it once or twice and didn't think it warranted another return. We recently decided to come again and see how it compared to what has become our local hot pot staple, Braintree's Tokyo (hidden gem!). Wish we didn't. The broth was flavorless. We ordered 2 plates of beef and 1 plate of lamb. Everything was brought out with nice presentation, but with my first bite of the beef, there was a loud CRUNCH. I thought it was a fluke and had another. Crunchy again. Is beef supposed to be crunchy? I examined the meat closely and saw that instead of it being just slices of lean meat, it was sinewy and had bits of cartilage and bone. Gross. I called the waiter and asked if it was a mistake, that perhaps we got a bad cut or beef tongue instead. He checked with the cook, I believe, and then the hostess (?) came over to explain that yes, this was their regular cut of beef, and that if we didn't like it, we could get something better for an up charge. Of course we immediately agreed to the up charge since this "regular cut of beef" was completely inedible. In my whole life, I have never before been in contact with any beef quality as bad as this. I understand regular beef isn't going to be as great as prime angus rib eye, but this was just ridiculous. The service was fine though. read more

After visiting Fuji over in Quincy Center, we decided to try their new venture - Shabu Restaurant by Wollaston/N Quincy. We've seen this place since they were building it and were dying to try. The decor seemed very zen-like from the outside. Well, we finally got the chance the other day. The zen-like decor does extend to the inside. It's stunning and very peaceful looking inside. But all the decor in the world couldn't save this place if it had bad food. Luckily, the food measures up. This is now my second favorite shabu place in the whole world and favorite place in the Boston area. The boy and I sat by the counter and had our own soups. We ended up ordering the miso, and the waitress recommended the kim chee soup, so that was our second choice. She did not steer us wrong. We both love spicy so the kim chee definitely won out. The sauce mix was well presented and very tasty. The veggies were good. The beef was also incredible. We also ended up ordering extra lamb and mushrooms. The mushrooms were, of course, delicious. And while I normally like lamb, I wasn't crazy about it's use in shabu, but that's a personal preference. Now that I'm not in Quincy anymore, it'll be tough, but I would definitely make the trip down here for some more yummy kim chee shabu! read more

SHABU! I came here today with a variety of Yelpers and non-Yelpers, and I was incredibly impressed. The food is quite good (after some yummy appetizers, I went with the surf and turf with my turf being beef and turkey, followed later by the vanilla mochi ice cream). The Surf and Turf, into the veggie broth, is quite good: a decent variety of fish/water-based products, along with very good meat. I appreciated that I could order two separate meat-based products with my meal, something I haven't seen at other Shabu restaurants. It filled me up, and not in that icky icky way. On top of this, the mochi ice cream was an experience. To explain, it's basically two ice cream dumpling sort of things, with a shell around them. It's not too much ice cream, and it makes a great ending to a good, filling meal. What topped it off though was the service. Everyone working there was incredibly nice and helpful, making sure we were all set and that we had everything we were looking for. Considering the large group (close to 25), they did an incredible job. It's a little small, so I would assume that it fills up quickly at night, but it's a nice, great place to get some kickass Shabu. read more

I was hesitant about this place. Why? When my friend suggested we go for shabu I was happy. I love shabu. I asked her what the restaurant was called. Am I just walking into a small shabby shabu shabu restaurant that doesn't even bother to form an unique name to the place? Man was I wrong. Right when I walked in I was surprised to see how chic this place was. The service was awesome. I'm not going to lie. I'm pretty critical about my servers and after eating here I found myself with nothing to complain about concerning the service. Our server suggested the regular broth and I was hesitant. At the last place I ate it, the house broth tasted so bland. However, the server told me, "Trust me. Get it. You won't regret it". I held him to that. The broth was so good! Everything about the food was just great. The meat servings were fresh and large. I'm glad that i decided to split the meat combo with my friend because I honestly couldn't have finished that myself considering I also got a side order of shrimp and tofu. (Hey! I was hungry okay?!). The veggie plate was okay but I wished they included tofu because I love tofu with my shabu. However, the starch compensated. My udon came in a large bowl and that just made my day. All in all, for a party of two, our bill came out to only $41 which is really affordable for shabu and the amount of food we got. I love coming to shabu for hotpot! The restaurant is pretty small with a couple of tables fitting probably 20 people inside and a bar that comes with individual pots. There is also outdoor seating in the summer which is nice. The staff is super nice and are very attentive. I usually like coming for their buffet time during lunch because it's a good price for the quality of food you are going to get. The broths are all delicious, but my favorite is tonkotsu (pork bone flavored) which is a milky white color, and Tom yum which is a bit sour and spicy. The meat is sliced fairly thick with nice marbeling and color and the vegetables are very fresh. The a la carte menu is also very good, with a vast variety of selections of meat and vegetables. One thing my friends and I like to do is buy the broth on its on if we feel like eating hotpot at home. Each broth is 3-6$ depending on what you get but they give enough to fill a hotpot pot. Even if you don't want to eat hotpot, the broths themselves are good enough to drink on their own! There's never a wrong time for hotpot and Shabu is one of the better places to eat it! read more

I've been to Shabu probably about 8 times since its opening. Both the food and service here are two things: consistent and very good. For those new the Shabu, the friendly staff will bring your through a tutorial of what it is and what they might suggest for your menu. The ingredients arrive quickly, mostly due to the fact that you'll do the cooking yourself. That might sounds like a daunting and labored task for eating out (I thought the same) but it really couldn't be a better experience. For those of you who are experienced Shabu'ers, you'll find an array for fresh ingredients that are available as either al la carte servings or prepared as combination. The atmosphere and attitude here is very casual in nature, yet the decor has modern elegance. I can't say enough for the staff. The owners here really have this down in all of their restaurants (Beni, Fuji) and not only are somehow constantly able to track down the best staff but also retain them. You'll truly feel welcome, which is something that is hard these days. I highly recommend a glass of the plum wine to go along with your spicy Kim Chi broth (~ $3 up charge). The cheapest beef option on the menu is, to me, also the best. This, the sirloin, is the leanest cut if you don't love the flavor of fat. For those of you who do, go for the prime rib eye. I've been coming here for over 3 years. They accommodate vegans very well, just make sure to tell the wait staff. The veggies are always fresh, sake is hot, and the sushi from B's cafe is delicious. I'm not looking for an impeccable meal. Just looking decent place to have lunch before I head off to work. I ordered a prime rib eye combo. The meat is good here which is why I came here. The veggie plate sure was a disappointment. There was only two strands of watercress. Really? It's less than a Buck for a bundle in the market! So OK, there was a good helping of Napa and spinach. Three pieces of woodear, one one inch section of corn and a wedge of tomato. Combo came with a small bowl of noodles. All for the great price of $19. I ordered a watermelon smoothie. When she came back with it, it had boba in it. Wth! It came with a nice pricetag of $4.45. I didn't bother returning it Cuz I didn't want to wait again since it came after I started eating my meal. Part way thru the meal, I ordered enoki mushrooms. When it came out, I was in awe and they better not charge me three bucks for 20 strands of it. I felt so much better that they didn't, it was only $3.25. OK, I actually didn't count this plate but I can sure shove the plate of raw enoki in my mouth and chew comfortly. I never seen this plate so minute in all my shabu experiences. Also, the service was lacking. Not once did anyone come by and asked How the meal was. Nor did anyone come by to turn the pot down so I had hi boiling broth the whole duration. Seems like they are going downhill and shrinking their portions. AMAZING. Their calamari earns the 5 stars by itself. I cant even describe how great it was! I'm used to hitting up ShabuZen both in Chinatown and Allston, and was a little nervous about hot pot in Quincy (never been in the area), but I'd surely return here. LOVED IT. A small cute little place, with a great interior, an adorable patio... just not a lot of tables, so if it gets busy, you might have to wait. I am a fan of this place! I go all the way from Providence to Quincy to get a slurrrrp of their Tonkatsu broth! I also love their Chinese Sze Chuan broth.. Their meats are fresh, so are the veggies! I tried their ostrich meat, and I kinda like them too! You have the option of sitting at the bar with individual pot or at the regular booth/ table with the option of split pots! Alsoooo.. when its warm outside, I like to seat on the porch area with shaded umbrella and have a cold Poochi Poochi sake while at it. The service is great, servers are friendly and attentive!
