AYCE hotpot is a much better during lunch ($20) than dinner. They do have long waits but there is a Barnes and Noble nearby. This place is located in the Veranda with lots of things to do. The options are limited and i wish they could do a better job with their sauces but service is pretty good and everything is kept organized and clean. Service is quick. Could use a little more vegetables and hot sauces, herbs to mix the sauces with. Also like the individual pots. I do miss lamb on the menu. Despite a pleasant atmosphere and decent service, the food here completely ruined the experience. The main meat options were mediocre at best, and the overall food quality was terrible. The appetizers--specifically the fried chicken and fried gyoza--tasted exactly like cheap, pre-packaged frozen food you'd buy at a grocery store. After learning what type of restaurant this is, I missed an opportunity to try it recently. But not today!!! When my Big Bruddah asked me where I wanted to go for lunch, I said, "SHABUYA!!!" He said he never hear of this place, so we both went in as virgin Shabuyans. I looked the restaurant up online before hand when my son told me how good it was. He didn't lie! We went in during the middle of the afternoon and were promptly greeted and seated by a courteous staff. The place was not busy at all and was very spacious and air conditioned. I'm not sure what the difference is between the lunch and dinner menu other than the price. Lunch is just under $20/person while dinner is just under $29/person. On the lunch price, you can select (1) broth, (4) proteins & (2) appetizers. Drinks are extra. Basically, this place is like an Asian version of the Melting Pot. It's a hotpot restaurant where you can cook (at your table) and eat your pho to your hearts' desire, all within 90 minutes. After our waitress brought out our broths, meats & apps, I beelined my way to the buffet where they have all the fixings. And I do mean all! This is where you select your noodles, seafood variety, veggies, and more. Everything is laid out fresh and plentiful. After indulging in a fabulous lunch, I was satisfied knowing that I was completely stuffed with a nice, healthy bowl of soup, as opposed to being weighed down by a giant cheeseburger. The Lychee soju, which did not taste like an alcoholic beverage at all, was the perfect chaser. It totally hit the spot! 3.5 stars for $30 AYCE dinner: decent taste, good value, good service. We were close to reaching the 1.5 hour time limit due to the holiday weekend. Even though we got in at 5:30 pm, the restaurant filled up fast. Parking was free in the Veranda plaza, but very crowded. Service slowed down during the rush, but our server Patrick was a champ. He was proactive and quickly set our table, explained the menu, bussed our plates, and took meat orders. - Tonkotsu broth lacked pork flavor. It was light and not too salty. Apparently it's mixed with vegetable broth. Dipping meat in the broth eventually rounded out the flavor. - Sukiyaki broth tasted a little watered down. My bf said that it was usually better, so it was probably a fluke. My thoughts on the meat options below. - Rib Eye: meaty and beefy with good marbling. Probably my favorite. - Prime blade: beefy taste, lean, easily overcooked. - Beef toro: tasted more like fat than like anything else. - Natural pork belly: light pork taste with a nice bouncy texture. Fatty, but not as much as the beef toro. - Natural pork shoulder: tasted like the pork belly, only leaner. - Prime flat iron steak: soft but tasted oddly like liver, which I didn't like. - DIY vegetable bar was fine. There was less variety than I thought once I went to the other side and saw that the offerings were simple mirrored. I stuck with the nappa cabbage, broccoli, king oyster mushroom, udon, and thick egg noodle. I liked the thin cut on the nappa since it cooked quickly. However, I would have preferred thicker cuts of taro and bigger pieces of broccoli. A different shape of fish cake might have been better instead of the strip kind. - Karaage (regular and soy sauce flavor) was alright. The pieces were small like popcorn chicken. read more

My family's go-to AYCE hot pot. Been to various locations already - including the one in Honolulu. We like how you can mix two broths together along with the variety of food selections from their bar. It's a grab what you like type of bar - just be mindful of what you grab because it's easy to get carried away. They have a sauce bar - which I think is kind of limited. I often only get their peanut sauce. It compliments the meat very well. My go-to broths would be their sukiyaki and tonkatsu mixed together. It has a nice umami, milky flavor to it. I don't like getting their pork options. I only ever get their beef. Toro is a hit or miss - sometimes it comes with way too much fat. Service is pretty good here. There's only one other time where we had to wait a while to be served - but that's because this place gets so packed during peak hours. Otherwise, place is pretty clean. Just be prepared to wait at least an hour during those peak times. read more

Got here 45 minutes before closing (I know, less than ideal, I've worked in restaurants) A server tells us that it's "5 minutes until last call" and then to wait for the host. No problem. And she just replied "it's past last call". Mind you, the restaurant is still more than half full at this point. Parking can be a little difficult as there are plenty of surrounding businesses. The inside of the restaurant is nice and roomy. I came here with a group but had just had surgery and let the staff know ahead of time that I wouldn't be eating. They told me I would still be charged, which I understood and accepted. When I sat down, I asked the waiter if the amount I was going to be charged could be placed on a gift card so I could come back another day when I was actually able to eat, he said YES. I literally did not eat or drink anything, I just sat at the table the entire time. At the end of the meal, we were again told I still had to be charged, which was already understood and not the issue. The issue was how it was handled. When we spoke to the manager and then the general manager, Ryan, they were both very rude and dismissive. To make matters worse, they tried to blame the situation on a "language barrier," claiming the waiter spoke Spanish. The waiter then told management that we had spoken to him in Spanish, which is completely untrue. This felt like an excuse to avoid taking responsibility rather than addressing the situation honestly. I understand restaurant policies, but professionalism, accountability, and basic empathy matter, especially given the circumstances. Unfortunately, this experience left a very bad impression. We come here all the time, i didn't mind paying for the meal but if they couldn't put the value of the meal on a gift card for me to use it another time then the waiter should've said that because we wouldn't have eaten there. I did not move and a moment later my date walked in. I told him we wouldn't be eating there and the manager was now at the hostess desk explaining their seating policy. He however was not concerned with the way that his Hostess had been speaking to me. Everything about this place is unfriendly and cold. I'm writing to report a disappointing experience during my recent visit to your restaurant. I explained to the staff and the manager that I needed to bring a small portion of French fries for my baby because he currently refuses to eat anything else. Since Shabuya does not offer French fries, there was no way for him to have a meal while the rest of our family was dining. Instead of trying to help us find a solution, the manager was very rude and simply told me to contact corporate, without offering any support or alternatives. As a manager, I would expect her to do something--anything--to help guests enjoy their meal, especially when young children are involved. Her attitude made the situation even more stressful and made us feel unwelcome. As parents, we were just trying to let our baby enjoy food he likes so we could all enjoy dinner together. If we weren't with my parents, who were excited about eating hot pot and had already waited about an hour to be seated, we would have left. I understand restaurants have policies about outside food, but the lack of flexibility and the dismissive behavior from the manager were very disappointing. I hope your team will review this situation and consider allowing reasonable exceptions for families with young children, as well as providing better customer service training for your staff. read more

You can't make an online reservation, you have to put your name down when you get to the restaurant. It's probably best that you get there an hour before you plan to eat to anticipate the wait because the wait can be anywhere from 1-3 hours on a busy day. So get there early and plan to walk around and shop first! They have a good selection of meats, noodles, seafood, and veggies. I like the fried items as well (chicken karaage, gyoza, etc) If you've never gone to a shabuya place before and you're one of those people who like to look at menus before you arrive... look up sauce recipes that you can recreate at the restaurant. The phone rings indefinitely with no voicemail message answering. I hate that right,? I called again and connected through to the hostess. They wouldn't let us sit inside until the last of our party arrived due to a 90 min table dining time limit. I said "screw that" to myself. To the hostess- " We're not waiting out on the 100F sidewalk. We will lose some eating time", and we were seated indoors. The music is not to my liking and too loud. We started off too hungry with slow service and then fell into the service groove and left full and satisfied, The food was tasty once the broth heated to cooking temp and we learned to maneuver between the items served to you and the items you serve yourself. A few times we couldn't find a waiter to ask for more meat. That 90 minute table clock was ticking in my head to the beat of a pumped in Beyonce tune. I wish we had watched a YouTube video for pointers. There is a learning curve if you hope for a chance to get value for your $21 meal. One of the Men's room toilets won't fully flush and there was a tacky towel tied around the faucet. Maybe to catch a leak? Normally I would report something like this to a manager but I was a little stressed with the noise level and trying to learn to gather ingredients and cook my own meal under a timer. I came here with work acquaintances for lunch. The price is definitely cheap (19.99) but service was poor. No one explained to me how the hot pot works and they didn't ask me what kind of broth I wanted. I picked the classic which had very little flavor. The meat is cut really thin and even if you had several plates (I had one only), it's not substantial at all. For the buffet area, there's frozen shrimp (some good and some mushy with innards), bland tofu, udon noodles, and lots of fish balls. There were lots of bok choy and other greens but it's really basic and when you cook everything, it easily overcooks your food. No one explained the dipping sauces to me. The music is festive but super loud and the entire restaurant is really busy, chaotic and full of young people. They have all kinds of cocktails for about 10 dollars each. This is really for a younger crowd who is looking for a very basic dining experience. I didn't see any desserts either. I will not return. read more

I had gotten the Miso Soup with gyoza and chicken on the side. I know it was on the side, but weirdly we only got 3-4 small pieces of chicken, though was good, was a very tiny serving, but that's okay; we are here for something else! In my soup, I put a whole bunch of things: Napa cabbage, green onions, bean sprouts, pineapple calamari, imitation crab meat, ramen, udon, soy sauce, quail eggs, lobster balls, mushrooms, sliced rice cakes, & more. It was quite a mix, but I came for food & I got it. My hot pot was just okay up until I later put in the soy sauce, which added flavor & brought it all together in my opinion. The service was good; waitress came to check on us at a good pace. The place was a bit dark but enough light to see. Coincidentally, we didn't have to wait for a table, but this place was packed!
