Phew wish I could give more stars lol. We must have came at a great time because service was amazing. Sushi quality is a lot better than I expected. I eat a lot of sushi and this quality was great!! This is the first ayce that actually had other things on the menu other than sushi. My fiancée doesn't eat fish and there was enough on there like ramen chicken teriyaki fried rice. The KFC chicken was absolutely delicious!! Crispy and sticky sauce was a hit with the whole table. The ambiance is typical. Tables it's a bit echoey lol but maybe that's because it was only us and 1 other table. Celebrated a birthday here today with high hopes since a friend recommended the place. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. Ambiance: Cozy and casual. We came early and waited about 20 minutes even though the place was empty -- they seemed to still be preparing to open. Service: Splendid. The staff were friendly, and our food was served quickly. That was definitely the highlight of the experience. Food: You can order three dishes per person, which sounded like a great deal at first, but the food itself was disappointing. The sushi had too much rice compared to the fillings. Flavors were generally bland and forgettable -- not something that would make us want to come back, especially for the price. Miso soup didn't taste authentic. Grilled Hamachi kama and takoyaki were both very bland. Shrimp Tempura was light but the sauce was too watery. The baked sushi had way too much rice; I honestly felt nauseated after a few bites. We reordered the spider roll because the first one was okay -- crisp and nicely balanced. Unfortunately, the second serving was soggy with sauce, had very little soft-shell crab, and tasted off. The nachos were a mistake -- not appetizing, and the chips broke easily. My kid compared them to cafeteria nachos, which says a lot. Drinks: Nothing special. Dessert: The ice cream (especially the green tea flavor) was the only thing we genuinely enjoyed. My friends were helping me with an art project and I decided to treat them out for lunch for my assistance. I know I wanted sushi and this was nearby their house, so we decided to give it a try. They have two types of AYCE options, one that is only available weekdays and late night weekdays, and another that is all the time. The price difference is like $10 per person. The menu is different, since the cheaper lunch menu are all the grey choices while the more expensive choice gives you red options as well. There were a lot of items we tried, so my review will be on the overall experience, including which rolls are my favorite and least favorite. Service was good and attentive. Our waiter(s) checked in on us constantly today. And they always filled our cups with water (or in my case lemonade) The good choices: I really liked the seared Tuna and seared Salmon nigiri. The 49er roll was also good, though it had a lot of imitation crab in it. The least favorite: Pretty much the other rolls. There were a lot of rice. And I mean, they pack the rolls with a lot of rice. The Inari was made into a roll, and it was not the best. I did taste Inari, but I had so much rice it masked the fermented flavor I expected from my tofu. The bulgogi roll was good, but too much rice and cold rice + warm meat feels weird to eat something like bulgogi. Overall, I am glad to give this place a try. I just wish they had sashimi as an option normally (the "No Rice" choice makes it see like that, but it was unclear). And I hope they can tone down on the rice next time. Had wanted to try this place for awhile but was not too impressed when I finally got to visit. Came on a Friday night and we were sat immediately. Staff was friendly and explained the menu to us. A decent amount of options to choose from but I mainly stuck with the nigiri menu. Garlic ono and ono nigiri were my favorite; however, I didn't like the amount of rice that came with each nigiri. Some other items we chose included a Philly roll, crispy rice, butter roll and tnt roll. To be honest, nothing stood out. We also ordered the nachos which was...interesting. pretty sure the chips it came with were Costco tortilla chips and canned nacho cheese. It was definitely interesting for a sushi spot. Service was a bit on the slower side and it was difficult to get in additional orders, so we were left waiting for long periods of time between each order. Not sure if it was the manager or owner, but we noticed that after he came in, servers were more attentive with checking on us and food came out faster. Always happy to find another AYCE Sushi spot in the East Bay. It was $34.95/per person but if you come for lunch or late night Monday-Thursday then it's only $27 each! In this economy, that's a steal! Sushi Tsunami has a really modern feel when you enter & their menu also reflects that vibe. This isn't your regular-degular AYCE Sushi. Sushi Tsunami had some very unique and almost innovative dishes on their menu. The No Rice Naho plate was so fun and I will definitely be making that at home the next time I host dinner. The No Rice Burrito was a great ideal, but I was not a huge fan of a regular tortilla with raw fish. I think maybe if it were a tempura burrito or some kind of cooked fish it would work better. BUT- the concept is awesome! The nigiri selection was excellent. They even had Ono (Wahoo) which I've never seen at another AYCE Sushi spot. It reminded me a lot of escolar (white tuna) becsuse of how buttery it was! The Yubu (or stuffed Inari) were humongous and very filling, but definitely worth it! They were filled to the brim with whatever you choose and had just the right amount of rice. We also ordered the cheese bulgogi fries and corn cheese because we just had to see if it was just the sushi that was good or if it was everything on the menu. I can confidently say that everything Sushi Tsunami offers was worth the drive from Oakland to Pleasant Hill. The staff was also super friendly. I enjoyed getting to learn how this is the second location they've opened and they plan to continue expanding if they continue to do well. There is usually a limit on how many items you can order per round but when they aren't too busy they will let you order a few extra items at a time! The staff was very nice and attentive when we first sat down. They explained how the all you can eat menu works and what you get. It's a pretty good deal if you're really hungry, but the rolls for the most part are mostly rice, and it's a ton of rice under the nigiri. The ambiance is sort of up scale, a lot more than Damo was in the same location, but it's nothing crazy. The chairs along the wall are sort of tight, so don't sit along the wall if you can avoid it. I'd pass on the egg rolls and udon next time, they were not that good. The gyoza, edamame and house salad are all good choices for starters. The sake list is good, the premium ginjo was great. The non rice rolls looked good, however, they brought me the wrong one twice - so I gave up on those. The fried roll we got, the Golden Gate was probably the best roll we tried. Our waitress was nice and attentive came up multiple times before last call to get our orders in and made sure we didn't leave hungry. Was in the area with my partner, and both of us were craving AYCE sushi at 4pm. We initially went to Fuji, our go-to for affordable, good quality nigiri- CLOSED on a Monday. That was disappointing. We then drove to Muu AYCE sushi and bbq... $60 PER PERSON?? Unfortunately way out of budget for us. Then my partner yelp'd "ayce sushi near me" and low and behold, Sushi Tsunami popped up. I'd never heard of this spot but the reviews were decent and at this point we were starving. Boy was I pleased! The best things in life come when you don't expect them! The ambient lighting created a nice calm atmosphere despite the typical chaos that comes with AYCE sushi spots. For $35/person, we were able to order practically everything on the menu from appetizers to nigiri to specialty rolls and even dessert (drinks are an additional cost). We ordered three rounds of food from all sections of the menu. There's a lot to cover so I won't go through all the items one by one, but as a salmon and tuna lover, my FAVORITE picks were the seared salmon nigiri, the zenbu roll, and the exotic salmon roll. The kama was crunchy and seasoned well, the edamame were super crisp and tasty and the beef bulgogi hot plate was a nice palette cleanser to the inevitable fish fatigue. The interior is modern with nice padded chairs. On the day we went there were about 7 occupied tables for lunch. We chose the premium dinner price $35 which includes the entire menu. What caught our eye was their no rice rolls. These rolls were wrapped on the outside with cucumber. Not all items are good. Their spicy edamame was just boiled edamame with sriracha. My family and I were coming to this place super often. They had good options and quality sushi for an AYCE. But recently, they changed their menu. There's different pricing and limitations based on pricing, which makes the whole thing less appealing in general. But on top of that the rolls they make now are largely just rice. They like double roll the roll in rice and the good stuff is so minuscule that you can barely taste it. Plus you should see the mound of rice on the crispy rice now...and you're only limited to one order per person. I am utterly disappointed and won't be coming back. I recommend that anyone trying to get some sushi go to Nobuya. It's expensive and a little further up contra costa but at least the quality is great and you're getting what you paid for, not just a ton of rice to fill you up before you get any of the good stuff (the nigiri is the only thing worth anything here) that you ordered. read more

Used to love coming here because of their variety of vegan options and have recommended it to friends and family however I think there was a recent change to the menu. You can pay $32 for a smaller version of the buffet, or you can pay $39 for the signature buffet (everything on the menu) we decided to go with the signature because I love sushi. Unfortunately, it's not actually all you can eat... You can only get 1 per person of multiple items. For example: the poke, blue fin tuna, and salmon belly off the top of my head. My "poke" was 80 percent seaweed & a few scraps of salmon. My salmon was the weirdest color of yellow, I think because it wasn't fresh. I'm including a picture. First time trying Sushi Tsunami and oh boy, we were impressed with the rolls! There are two ways to order: À la Carte or AYCE. We decided to go with the all you can eat option and we were very pleased. The menu is extensive, offering a mix of Japanese and Korean-inspired dishes. This is what we had: -Miso, and House Salad 5/5, both delicious and just expected at a Japanese restaurant. -Nigiri special, bluefin tuna 5/5, fresh and delicious! We ordered a couple. -Yubu, Spicy Tuna 3.5/5, I am still unsure how to feel about this. There was a lot of tuna inside a tofu packet. It was just a bit bland. I wasn't impressed, and since they have other things, I would probably skip next time. -Mixed Tempura 3/5, some were good, but some of the veggies were doughy. It wasn't my favorite. -Seared Nigiri and Eel 2/5, I would not get this again. This was our least favorite. -Rolls, Flaming Dragon, and Exotic Salmon 5/5, the stars of the show. They have absolutely delicious rolls! I wish we could have tried others but we were full. Their rolls make a trip to this restaurant worth it. They were very flavorful! They also have a slight smoky taste, and we loved that. -Cheese Bulgogi Fries 4/5, this was a surprisingly delicious dish. We loved the flavor, but next time we plan to ask for half a serving. Overall, I think the restaurant has some good dishes, and the rolls alone are worth a trip here. One minor drawback was the strong emphasis on the policy requiring guests to finish all dishes or be charged à la carte for anything left uneaten. The all you can eat deal for $34.95 is a pretty good deal here, with a wide variety of items to choose from, and not just sushi! When we usually get sushi elsewhere, we spend that same amount on two rolls per person. For appetizer, I liked the mixed tempura. (4/5) The sushi quality ranges here from a 3 to 4 out of 5, and sometimes goes too heavy on the rice. The 'no rice' roll I got, the cozy cucumber, was better than the cherry blossom roll I got with rice. We liked the nigiri we ordered, though they were a little heavy on the rice as well. I will not be returning to this "fake" sushi place. Basically, all their sushi is just California rolls with fake crab meat with various toppings. Some have the shrimp tempura inside, but that's it. None have sashimi inside and those that have it on top there's barely any. $40/person for ayce. They even charge the same price for a non rice roll than a normal roll which uses cucumber instead of rice which had barely anything in it! They also do not serve half rolls so that means you didn't get to try as many different rolls as you might get to elsewhere because you have to eat the whole roll first before ordering more. Other ayce places serve half rolls. The service and ambiance were great, though. The light in the bathroom is automatic and on a motion sensor with a short time limit, so you'll be in the dark if you take a long time pooping. read more

I wish the server would have asked if I've been there before because they just gave us the menu with no explanation. I had to ask them to explain it to me. I've been to the Fairfield location before and decided to check out their second spot in Pleasant Hill -- and honestly, it was just okay. I noticed right away that the menu seemed smaller; a lot of the items I enjoyed from the Fairfield location were missing. Something was also a bit off about the rice (my partner in crime pointed that out too), and the corn cheese wasn't very pleasing. My wife and I have tried this place before and loved it so much (and for the price) that we made it a goal to bring our friends to the area to try it with us! The timing was right: Friends and I just got back from a trip from Nevada, and we had such an amazing time but had lackluster spots for AYCE sushi. To be fair, we know what AYCE sushi entails, but we do have bare minimum requirements that needs to be kept (like sushi can't still be frozen once on the serving plate, clean eating area, and short intervals from ordering rounds to when the food comes out.) Ayce Sushi and korean food! The variety is so great! I really enjoyed the no-rice options. The Edamame was tasty and the sushi was fresh. We also had the tempura which was crisy and a good size.
