Eh, don't waste your time with The Shack, especially with excellent Brunch options just down the street like First Watch. I was very disappointed because I suggested going here to my friends because of The Shack's impressive Instagram page. But they didn't live up to their pretty pictures. We arrived at 10 AM on a Saturday morning with 5 adults and a handful of very young children (i.e. all 2 years old and less). We were looking forward to eating on the patio on a beautiful 85 degree Saturday morning only to be told that the patio was closed because they were short staffed. They crammed all of us into a tiny booth and didn't offer any high chairs. There was a very dirty cup at the end of the table (obviously used and not cleaned up) and a water glass at each spot, but each one only half full. Half full glasses and a dirty one lingering made us weary to drink anything and it took forever to flag down our waitress to question about it. The employees did their jobs, but definitely just the minimum. For example, they have paper kid's birthday crowns lining the walls (like the ones you used to get at Burger King!) We mentioned to our waitress that we were celebrating a child's birthday and there was no offer of the party hat. With many other brunch options in the area, The Shack is a one and done deal. read more

Now That's Breakfast! Located in the Lee's Summit Summit Fair Shopping Center, there is ample parking in the center's lot and easy access from both US 50 and I-470. Its attractive facade is clean and welcoming with awnings to protect those waiting outside from foul weather. The inside waiting area is comfortable and spacious. There is delivery, take out, both indoor and outdoor seating available, along with a very accurate wait list feature. Having gotten a $50 Shack gift card for Father's Day from my daughter we decided breakfast was in order. And the "new kid in town" seemed to be the right place! We arrived about 5 minutes before our scheduled "wait list" time and were seated almost immediately. Our server showed up just as the hostess left our table and took our drink orders. This was with an almost full restaurant and a standing room only waiting area. That said, I highly recommend taking advantage of their wait list feature on their website - I know I like going to the head of the line. Their menu is amazing, 9 pages of combination plates that cover just about everything you might desire for breakfast / brunch / light lunch, including gluten free and vegan offerings. I went for a traditional breakfast of two eggs, two sausage patties, hash browns (with sausage gravy), two biscuits and gravy (called the "Notorious B&G"), along with very good coffee. That added up to $15.23 including tax, and a very full tummy and room on the gift card for a return trip. The over medium eggs were cooked perfectly, the hash browns with gravy (my favorite) were just the way I liked them only requiring a dash of salt, the biscuits were good sized and just flaky enough, and the sausage patties with a flavor light enough to satisfy without overpowering the rest of the meal. In short, I liked it all. The service was spot on. I had wondered how a new restaurant opening at the end of the lockdowns, with every seat filled and many waiting in line, would handle the crush. Well, I should not have wondered because everything went like clockwork. Do I recommend The Shack? Definitely! read more

The food is good. After being told there was a 45-60 minute wait for our party of 4, we waited over 1 and a half hours without being seated. We watched as multiple parties of 6-12 were being seated and parties of 2-5 waited. We asked multiple times about our wait and were given excuses. I even heard the hosts talking about how they "needed to get some of these smaller parties seated". Yet, we continued to wait until we walked out. With this experience, we will not return to this location. read more

Very unique and delicious place to eat! I had heard of this place and was anxious to try it. A friend and I stopped in about 11 on a Friday. After a short wait (5-7minutes) we were seated. The menu looks tasty and offers fairly standard, yet unique, breakfast and lunch fare, but with very interesting names. For example, you might find "Do it yourself, Meg Ryan" (Nice nod to When Harry Met Sally) where the diner chooses egg, meat and carbs. A big hit seems to be Starchy and Cluck, fried chicken with waffle, maple syrup glaze with two eggs and hash browns. After chuckling at the clever menu, we decided on Wicked Good Turkey (smoked turkey, cheddar cheese, peppercorn aioli and Doritos on a warm pretzel bun) and a choice of fries for a side and Turkey Avocado Wrap (smoked turkey, avocado spread, bacon, tomato, spring mix, white cheddar and peppercorn aioli) with a fruit side. Both were outstanding! Prices were similar to a First Watch, both Enid our meals were $12.99. The service was friendly and helpful, quick and accurate. The decor was very interesting with bright crystal chandeliers, yet a definite industrial vibe too. Several green artificial plant walls and intentional graffiti everywhere. Walls, doors, restroom, etc. Multiple seating options including bar seating, tables, and booths and it appears even some outdoor seating. The space also offers private events in the evening. Man I am so so bummed I have to write this review like this. I want to come back and give this place another chance but I'm not sure yet. Getting there and having your reservation seemed to be the easy part. This place had really great reviews and walking in I immediately loved the ambience and environment (and of course the delicious smells of foods). My husband and my friend came along with. We sat and placed our order and got some drinks which came fairly quick and tasted absolutely amazing. We then placed our food order (which by the way, their graphic designer made a fantastic menu like wow). The nice waiter comes out and asks for the food order to which we happily (and hungrily obliged). My friend got a vegetarian plate, my husband got a country fried steak and a waffle, and I got a burrito without onions. Here comes the not fun part. We waited a good 40 minutes for food to come out. The alcoholic drink hitting my empty stomach was starting to take its toll. But whatever I'm sure the food should be worth the wait.. Our food comes just short of an hour later and it all looks and smells so so good. Except I cut into my burrito and a pile of finely diced (hard to pick out) onions spill out. I am not enraged but I am slightly disappointed. I can't have onions so I flagged down my waiter and told him I asked for no onions. He apologized and told me "yea our kitchen staff can't read" which was funny but.. like come on dude. He took it back and asked for another one. Another 35 minutes goes by and surely by now both people I arrived with have long been finished eating their plates feeling bad for me who is getting slightly drunker on my empty stomach. We were about to leave and the guy brought back my food finally and yea ok .. it has no onions. But it also had no silverware (he took mine when he walked off with the first plate) we didn't see him again after that until we asked for a to go box and I had to locate my own silverware. What was I gonna do? Wait 35 min for silverware? I try the burrito it's not even warm anymore.. seemed like they refuted it 30 minutes before and sat and waited to be brought to me? I'm not sure. Anyway, I'm not happy and my stomach absolutely aches because it only had alcohol in it all morning. I got the rest of my burrito to go and didn't even finish it when I got home I just felt like crap for the rest of my day since I had booze for breakfast. I'm not happy about my experience here - I expected a lot more from a place like this. I wished they'd offer to refund my food or something since I technically didn't eat it. My friend or husband may return. I probably will not.. :( I don't have that many hours in a morning to sacrifice to another experience like this... sorry. 2 stars because watching people eat around you while you slowly get drunker doesn't leave you feeling very good for the rest of the day. read more

I've had a few different locations in STL with no issues. Love all the creative names and plenty of diversity of options! This time at the Lee's Summit location was not good. First, The online waitlist had an issue. When we were deciding where to go we looked at the waitlist and we couldn't put our name in and it recommended we come right in because there was no wait for a party of our size. We live under ten minutes away and when we got close checked again (because we feared it would be busy) and they had a 15-30 min wait, so we put our name in. We weren't in a rush so we were fine with waiting. They do have some vegetarian friendly options! I got the Avo-rito with a fruit cup. The fruit cup was very sad and I asked the server and she brought me a second, but still just blueberries and strawberries. My burrito was supposed to have just egg whites but it was full egg and had very little veggies and was mostly just egg. The French toast was good. The location is in a place with a mask mandate and most of the servers had their noses popping out of their masks. Overall, a very disappointing experience! read more

My friend and I had a great smash burger. I had sweet potatoes tots and she had a massive amount of french fries. We both enjoyed our meals and our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. Lunch menu is not as extensive as breakfast but we enjoyed it. We arrived shortly before closing not realizing they closed at two but they seemed happy to seat us and did not rush us. People wrote all over the walls but writing was respectful and not any that children should not see. read more

Actually, there was a McAlister next door. We originally stopped to eat there but saw the Shack on the walk up. Decided on "an adventure". Meals were a bit on the pricey side. Service left a LOT of room for improvement. Server delivered food to table and never came back to see if things were okay. Only came by to drop off bill, then performed a disappearing act. I had to get up and wander searching for someone to take the bill! I ordered the Denver Omelet. The omelet was good, but it came with hash browns. They LOOKED tasty, but weren't hot. And the tops LOOKED crispy, but weren't. Given overall experience, not likely to recommend unless looking for places to avoid. The puzzling aspect of this is that the place wasn't all that busy. This place is awesome! I've now been twice, first visit was a 4-star visit, this one a 5-star. The difference? First visit service was just ok. Very friendly, just not attentive. This visit, friendly and on top of every need. Now the food...so I've had the Strsky and Cluck, why the French hate us, love me now hate me later, and the chicken fried steak. ALL of them were excellent. The flavors in the dishes are very good. Nothing bland about what they do. Good chicken, good hash browns, gravy is amazing. The portions of the food are super. No one in my party has left wanting additional food. Stuffed to the gills! The drinks are a bit pricey, but what establishment isn't these days. The coffee is good though, but not sure it's that good. Had the Dude Abides, a White Russian today and it was very tasty, just not a good value at the price. Great place to eat for sure. Tried this place out recently with my family. Since it's new there was a wait, a long wait. The food was very good and the atmosphere was wonderful. First, the bartender Kelsie was the best thing we experienced!!! The menu is extensive, so any type of breakfast you like they have it. The coffee was warm'ish but our bartender went and got a fresh pot; warmer but still not hot ( I have to admit I like coffee hot, how I judge a breakfast place and I am a bit of a diva when it comes to coffee :) Bacon was overcooked or sat under a heating lamp too long. Eggs over cooked .. requested over easy but received over medium. To be fair really hard to guess eggs. The side order of pancake was massive.. really really big (a meal by itself)! The decor is really kewl, inviting. I will go back again and try something different and try the bloody Mary instead of coffee :)) Oh, and people stop short tipping bartenders and servers for poor food quality. Not that great. Not that bad but not that great. The fact that there was a waitlist at 11:15 on a Friday made it seem really hopeful but the food was just okay. The soda machine wasn't working so there wasn't many non-alcoholic drink choices, the iced coffee was mediocre at best, and the waitress (even though it calmed down while we were there) only came by to see/check on us a total of 3 times.
