Our cat was seen by Dr. Varun Prabakhar for a routine vaccination and was taken into a separate room for the procedure. When he was returned to my husband, we were told he might have a reaction for a few days. What followed was not a mild reaction. Our cat came home unable to stand, refusing food, clearly in severe pain, and urinating on himself. He had previously received the same vaccine without any side effects. We contacted the clinic immediately and were repeatedly told this was normal. It was not. After four days of watching our cat in agony with no improvement, we called again and were offered a visit with another veterinarian. At that appointment, we were reassured that everything was fine. The veterinarian manipulated his leg to demonstrate that nothing was wrong and even suggested unrelated care. Meanwhile, our cat continued to suffer. After about a month, he was still severely limping and in obvious pain. We called multiple times. When we were finally able to speak with someone, it was suggested that he may have had a pre-existing condition, which was absolutely not true. We then sought a second opinion. An X-ray immediately revealed a broken hip. We were asked whether he had experienced major trauma, such as being hit by a car. Our cat is strictly indoors and had no access to anything that could explain such an injury. Because of the delay, our cat endured prolonged pain, had to be confined for an extended period, and developed additional strain and arthritis in the other leg. We also incurred significant out-of-pocket expenses. We reported the case to the veterinary board. Afterward, Dr. Prabakhar called my husband expressing concern about the situation and potential consequences. The difference between what we were repeatedly told and what was ultimately discovered is devastating. Our concerns were consistently dismissed while our cat was suffering. Based on this experience, we strongly warn other pet owners not to trust this clinic with serious medical concerns and to seek immediate independent opinions. read more

I want to share my view-altering experience about the downfall of what now has become a profit-over-pet care clinic, so much so that they charge you for services they don't actually properly perform. I have taken my Morkie, Hizee, to this clinic since he was a puppy. Initially, they provided good care and kindness, but recent management changes have adversely affected the quality of their services. It now seems they care more about profit than our pets' well-being. They have introduced unexpected charges that I find unacceptable, especially without prior notification. We are now seeing "Technician Appointment charges," even though the services provided have not changed. Be sure to check your bills closely, as these extra fees were not explained to us and are unreasonable, particularly since my dog's care has declined. Hizee is now nearly four years old, and he is not receiving the proper attention and care that he needs, despite the amount we are paying. Let me explain further. My dog needed his anal glands expressed every 3-4 weeks because he is a small breed, which is considered normal for them. Sometimes it was a struggle for me to bring him in, given the financial constraints; mind you, I tried to make it a regular thing. When I did make the timing regularly, he was almost always full since he had just started scooting, and they would say they would make sure to bring him in regularly to avoid being too full or to avoid hurting the dog. During my last visit, I was told that his glands were barely filled (red flag 1). They usually told me they were full or that it was a good time, but that day was different. Mind you, he wasn't even in the room for that long, because I was surprised when they brought him out so quickly, saying he wasn't full and that one side was barely there. Despite this, I was charged for the gland expression, and I found an unexpected technician appointment fee added without any notice. When I questioned this while I was there, the new staff member's response was rude, on top of his glands not being full and barely expressed. Less than a day later, I called the clinic to discuss these charges since my dog was still uncomfortable and scooting, which was why I had visited in the first place. The receptionist was very dismissive and rude, which is unacceptable, especially given the surprise of the extra fees and my dog's visible discomfort. When I took Hizee to the groomer a day or two after the vet visit--who is also a former veterinary technician--she noticed that his glands expressed themselves during his bath because they were full and needed more attention, even though they were irritated. This indicated that the clinic likely charged me for a service they did not perform properly. My dog spent less time at the clinic than usual and came out much quicker than expected. They claimed he wasn't full and barely had anything. How could he be full every 3-4 weeks and suddenly not this time? If he wasn't full, how did he become full again in less than two days when it normally takes 3-4 weeks? It is clear to me that the clinic no longer prioritizes our pets' well-being. They appear more interested in profit than in providing quality care. I strongly recommend that anyone considering this clinic think twice. It has become more profit-driven than a place dedicated to caring for pets. read more

I've been bringing my 5-year-old corgi to this clinic for years, but ever since the ownership changed, the quality of care has fallen off a cliff. My dog had a UTI over the summer, so when she suddenly developed the exact same symptoms last night -- nonstop licking, begging to go outside every 30 minutes, squatting for 5+ minutes in pain -- I called Shadow Hills the moment they opened at 9 AM. It took two full hours for them to call me back, only to tell me they would not help her. They refused to refill the same prescription they had already issued a few months ago. They refused to squeeze her in. They refused an emergency visit. They didn't even bother offering a referral or any kind of support. Their next available appointment was more than a week out -- meaning they were completely willing to let my dog suffer instead of doing the bare minimum to help a longtime patient. I took my dog Thursday for a broken nail which caused her pain and some bleeding, unfortunately my dog and my brothers dog don't like to be separated their beagles so I had to bring both. I brought my cat Bruno to Shadow Hills Pet Clinic for a routine vaccination visit. Before the appointment, he was completely healthy, walking normally, jumping, active, and showing absolutely no mobility issues. Immediately after the visit, everything changed. As soon as I brought him home, Bruno was unable to walk properly, crying/howling in pain, rolling on himself, and even losing bladder control. I contacted the clinic multiple times and was repeatedly told this was just a normal vaccine reaction. I trusted their professional judgment and even brought him back for a follow-up visit, where I was again reassured that everything was "fine." No X-rays or imaging were performed at that stage. Because Bruno continued suffering and was not improving, I eventually sought a second opinion at another clinic. An X-ray later revealed a serious hip fracture. To this day, I cannot understand how a cat could go from perfectly healthy before a routine visit to suffering a fractured hip immediately afterward, while repeated warnings and symptoms were dismissed as a "normal reaction." What disturbed me most was not only the condition my cat was left in, but the delay in properly diagnosing such a serious injury despite obvious signs of pain and difficulty walking. Bruno still has mobility limitations from this experience. I understand complications can happen in veterinary medicine, but based on my personal experience, I would strongly encourage pet owners to seek immediate second opinions if their animal shows severe symptoms after treatment. I have also filed a complaint with the Veterinary Medical Board of California so the matter can be independently reviewed. This review reflects my personal experience and opinion. read more

I made an appointment for my dog as he was not eating and it was very concerning. I made an appointment and was seen on the day of the appointment. My dog was seen by Dr. Walker, who was great. Exam and blood work was done and my dog's liver panels were high and an ultrasound was recommended. I called all the places that was referred to me by the vet's office and they were all very pricey for an abdominal ultrasound. So I looked elsewhere and got a fair price elsewhere. I received a phone call from Dr. Walker the day after the appointment inquiring about my dog and if I had made an appointment with an ultrasound place and I said I'm actually going to call a place that my previous vet referred me to because their price was more reasonable. Luckily, got a same day appointment with the ultrasound place and went and gave the info to the ultrasound place so that they can obtain my dog's records from Dr. Walker and, in turn, they can forward the ultrasound results to Shadow Hills Pet Clinic. The following day, I called the vet's office to see if I could speak with Dr. Walker and check to see if they received the ultrasound results and determine a plan of action because my dog hasn't really been eating and time is of the essence in this situation. No answer except for voicemail, so, naturally, I left a message for Dr. Walker. The day came and went and no call back. Now, I find myself debating whether to continue with Dr. Walker and Shadow Hills Pet Clinic or go to another vet, maybe even my previous vet. It's frustrating being that you pay so much for the care of your fur baby only to be left to wonder if the message was received or not or someone forgot to pass the message. I don't know. I'm at a loss right now. I mean, the least you could do is let me know if my voice message was received and that I would hear from the doctor by the end of the day. I just want to start off by thanking the wonderful staff at Shadow hills and Dr.Mohan. I was going crazy looking for a good place to Neuter my 6 year old Frenchie. Of course, I should have done it sooner but just knowing my baby has to go under anesthesia is scary and more being a French bulldog. Dr. Mohan explain everything to me in detail about the surgery and the trouble's a frenchie can have during surgery but he is very knowledgeable and I thank him for the wonderful job he did! I've been with Shadow Hill Pet Clinic before it was sold to a group and it was just Dr Mohan. Mohan has always been nice and a fine vet. Dr. Prabhakar (Dr V) just performed surgery on my baby and did a wonderful job and was very nice. Then I saw Dr. Lauber recently in an non surgery emergency where my dog had chewed the base of her tail to bleeding. Of course I asked if it was the anal glands even though it was much higher than where anal glands are located. I was asked if she had flees and I said no, she's white and you can see them immediately. So I was offered a list of things with prices to do. 3 month flee pill, clean the area, antibiotics, an anal glad expression and a couple other things. The doc didn't tell me anything was really necessary. I assuming it must have been a bug bite that made her chew the base of her tail, chose not to do anal expression but the obvious cleaning area, antibiotics and 3 month flee pill. Then a very nice, 30 year vet tech named Jessica came out and asked me, 'are you sure you don't want the anal gland epression?' I said no they were just expressed a few days ago and nothing came out. Jessica said 'but they're full'. I said really? Not believing her. Well then can I watch you do it? I wanted to make sure she wasn't just trying to get more money out of me. Jessica said 'Sure'. And I couldn't believe how much she expressed from my tiny dog. I asked her how she knew and the vet didn't. Jessica said she had been a vet tech for 30 years, experience. Jessica then stepped into the back hallway and showed the cloth with the expressed matter to someone and said very politely, 'see' as she held up the cloth. It felt like a superior. Then Jessica showed me what to look for and offered the next time I come in to show me how to do the anal expression from the inside, I'm a groomer and know the external expression method. Now Jessica doesn't work there anymore . I hope she wasn't fired for being so knowledgeable and helpful. Hopefully she left of her own will, but I have my doubts. read more

We were able to make a same day appointment as we had a new kitten with a swollen eye. They were nice and accommodating. They also comped a first exam. Although we were concerned they wanted to give another shot plus booster, yet the shelter said we only needed a booster. I'm glad the medicine they prescribed helped our kitten. read more

The atmosphere is completely different now. A single pharmacy has a monopoly on medications sold there, and their prices are much higher than they would be if it were a competitive market. And, yes, you have to pay a deposit in advance of each appointment even if you've been a loyal and dependable client of the clinic for many years. Parking is still a nightmare, so there is no upside to the corporate takeover. read more

THE BEST OF THE BEST! Very Knowledgeable, honest, patient, and caring Dr Mohan is the one who were looking for all the past 8 years. Since my dog was 5 months old, he got so many health related issues such as limping, ear infection, some loosing hair spot on the skin, or round wounds(maybe ring worms), fatty masses on his belly and ears... and since then we were always looking for knowledgeable, caring and honest doctor but every time all doctors treats our buddy very wrong and unprofessional and charged us $$$... After some more research on Facebook and Yelp and noticed so many people were recommending Dr Mohan and decided to visit him for the consultation... And YES! He was listening to the problems that our dog had, by checking our Sunny (blood test, x-ray, biopsy,...) he explained everything step by step, all the expenses(which is very very very fairnot like the other Veterinarian who see pets as a $ and charge people $$$$$), and all the necessary things that my buddy needed. Based on Dr Mohan diagnosed we ended up to do the surgery which thanks to him it went well. After the procedure Dr Mohan gave us a brief explanation of surgery on the phone and home treatments instruction. I took my cat here for a checkup. The doctor did an exam on her, and then held my cat on her back, took my hand and shoved it forcefully up into her belly area. He squeezed my hand around a large lump and said "do you feel that? That's a very large tumor. She has cancer". This was the absolute worst bedside manner. What an atrocious way to deliver this news to me. Zero compassion and a horrible way for a doctor to behave. I never came back and had her treatment done elsewhere. We have been taking our fur babies here for 20 years. I always felt comfortable with doctor Mohan but recently they went corperate. Gone are the days of good customer service and the care my dogs and cat received there. Last month I called for my 15 year old dog's medications. He had congestive heart failure and his heart meds were his life saver. When I called the receptionist said my dog Limby's yearly was over due and doctor won't give me meds. I only had 3 days of meds left but I couldn't go in until the following week. The yearly was not due for 2 months! After alot of back and forth with the receptionist and manager there because Dr. Mohan was too busy they finally gave me the prescription for 2 of the meds but they refused to prescribe the cough medicine and cardalis. Cardalis was a heart med that you just don't cut off cold turkey. I told the receptionist this and she claimed the doctor said he would be fine until his appointment which wasn't for another week. After more back and forth the manager informed me the doctor no longer wanted to see any of my dogs. I'm not sure what got into him. I've been told he went corperate because he was planning to retire soon. So I asked for my dog's records and was told I'd get them the next day. They didn't send them so I called back. It took 3 weeks before calling repeatedly to get them and I made an appointment with another doctor. By memorial weekend Limby was coughing more frequently but we had to wait for the following business day. He'd had these episodes before and I thought it was because we couldn't get the cough medicine. By Monday we decided to take him to ER but I had to wait for my husband to come home because I was no longer driving. By this time Limby was panting alot. When my husband came home I put Limby in his lap to comfort him while I was getting his bed in the car. With his condition he didn't like being held too long. Within 1 minute my dog took his last breath. He had been seen by Dr Mohan since the day he was born and we were disgusted that the doctor had no empathy. He didn't give a damn about my dog. This clinic went from kind and caring to the most brutal humans almost overnight. I used to recommend Shadow Hills to everyone. They are not the same. If you love your pets stay away! read more

I have been going to Dr. Mohan for well over a decade with my many cats and dogs, and he is very good. There are some vets I've been to that seem cynical about animals, but he loves them, and it shows. All of the other doctors and techs are good as well. In addition to good and compassionate care, they also always answer their phones. You may be on hold a few minutes, but you can reach them when you need to, and that is a big deal. You can also get an appointment, which has been hard with other vet clinics I've been too, especially since the pandemic. The office isn't fancy, but the care is good and the prices are lower than many other vets out there. Personally, I don't care about fancy offices, I care about the care that my pets receive, and the prices. Parking can be awkward if it's peak hours, but there is overflow parking on Sheldon Street, just outside the clinic parking lot. Also, and this is a big deal too, I never have to wait long to see the doctor. They are very good about sticking to their schedule, and I have seen this consistency over time, having booked appointments at all different times of day. Things I suggest to all pet parents for every veterinarian they visit: be sure to come with a list of questions about aftercare for any extended procedures, including "what should I look out for," "how do I give this to my pet," "did my pet already get a dose of this medication today?" Also, be sure to go over your estimate carefully, and request an estimate before you pay for any procedures. Sometimes you can put off certain treatments if money is an issue, and Dr. Mohan will let you know which ones can wait. In all my experiences with this practice, I can say that they are honest, transparent, and reliable. Because of this, and their standard of care, I recommend this clinic and all of the doctors there. read more

I want to start off by saying this clinic has been a godsend to my dogs. The customer service is professional and the veterinarian Dr.V is one of the most caring individuals. He not only treats our pet Penny and Lily with so much respect but he takes the time to listen to the owners concerns and is always very thorough when explaining treatment plans and procedures. I used to take my pet somewhere else but after finding Dr.V I only trust him with my pets health. You can tell he truly cares about animals by how attentive he is to my pets and their needs. I am extra careful with my senior dogs needs and every time she has left this vet she comes back better than before and it's thanks to their quality care! Do not take your fur babies there when it comes time for them to move on. Dr was very cold and in-empathetic. Jabbed my baby hard with a needle and walked out of the room. Then ended up charging $100 over the price they quoted on the phone. I was way too upset to argue over it. I would just never bring any animal I care about there ever! read more

Been coming here for years and they always do a great job taking care of my pets, especially my 10-year-old Sammy who just got his teeth cleaned here for the first time and I gotta say they did such a great job and all the plaque from his teeth is gone, well done!! It's always quick to get appointments here and compared to other places, this place is very affordable. It is a bit of a drive from where I live now but totally worth it!
