Two words...Beer Garden. Three more? Blues, brews, bliss. We moseyed into Shady's Tap Room in Brooklyn, Michigan over 4th of July weekend and found ourselves in what can only be described as the Midwest's version of honky-tonk heaven. Out back, the beer garden was in full glory--sun filtering through the trees, tables packed with happy people, and a blues-rock-country band tearing it up like they were in Nashville. The vibe? Think summer camp for grownups with craft beer and fewer rules. The soundtrack? Slide guitar, twangy vocals, and the occasional couple dancing in front of the stage. The drinks? Cold and local. The staff? Friendly! We came for a quick pint, stayed for the show, and left with significantly more joy than expected. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I dance in front of strangers while holding a burger in one hand and a beer in the other? Um, no. But Shady's, you had me at Beer Garden. read more

We ate outside on the back patio because it is dog friendly. They have a good menu with decent food options. Full bar with a good craft beer selection. The waitress was very nice and attentive even though we were the only ones sitting outside. This is a good option in Brooklyn. read more

Nice ambiance located in historic district of down town Brooklyn Michigan. Food was nice, we really enjoyed their burger and beer on tap. We had a friend of a friend played on St. Patrick's day and it was fun. Gets a bit crowded after 7pm but once you are there the fun outweighs the hassle of standing and bumping into people. read more

Mostly hits with a couple misses. The burgers and drinks are great, but on a couple rare occasions they kind of phoned it in on a meal. They have top notch burgers and wings. Very good staff and fun atmosphere. Worth the try. read more

The BEST place to get a great craft brew and able to chow down on amazing food. It was a great addition to Brooklyn I believe and hope it sticks around and becomes more of the towns history. Havnt been there in a long time but I know it always has tons of customers. read more

Went here for the first time, and even though the service was good, except for one detailed item, I may not be back. Upon arriving we were told to sit anywhere and we did, took a minute to figure out what we wanted and then proceeded to order. We started out with the pretzel and beer cheese and it was really good, I would recommend, but the cheese dip should be a lot warmer instead of a paste. We ordered dinner, which included, chicken parmesan sandwich and a 4 item Calzone. The chicken parmesan was a huge disappointment, lacked in sauce and flavor, the roll it came on was good but I would not recommend this item by any means. The calzone was good could have been cooked more, but I'd be afraid they might burn it, the marinara on the side was COLD, I'm talking right out of the refrigerator cold and to put that with a luke warm calzone was bad. When we got our food the server then mentioned that they were out of an item for our calzone but kept forgetting to tell us the umpteen times she past by us and so only had 3 out of the 4 items on it, didn't even ask if we'd like to getting something beside the bacon we wanted (said they were out of bacon) so does this mean a bacon cheese burger is just a cheese burger and don't tell the customer just serve it without? So after this experience, I would not recommend this restaurant to my friends or family, which is a shame, because we wanted to like it. I grew up in Brooklyn, and Shady's Tap Room doesn't feel like it belongs in Brooklyn, yet it does at the same time. My family and I went for dinner one night. The interior is a mix of exposed brick, painted pipes and new wood panels and tables. I was impressed by the atmosphere. It was casual but oddly upscale for Brooklyn. The tables don't have the best chairs, but they are comfortable enough. I thought the layout was strange and there were too many hi-top tables. Despite this preferences, I loved the interior. I liked the large wood bar with the wooden liquor rack behind it. The menu is not huge. It's mostly sandwiches, salads and pizza. We ordered two pizzas, the Shady's Signature and a regular pizza. I thought both were excellent. The Signature was very unique with chicken and a blend of cheeses and spice. I loved both pizzas. My parents didn't care for the Signature but really liked the regular pizza. My sister had the deep dish pizza at another time and said it was so filling she could only eat one piece. The real stars of Shady's are the taps. I believe they have 12 and they're adding more. They only serve local Michigan beers and it was a delight to see such a large sample of Michigan beer since Michigan is becoming such a craft beer location. I can't remember all of them but there was variety from several different brewers and types of beer. The service was excellent. Our server was friendly and fast. Overall, I thought this was a great place and I hope it succeeds. Brooklyn isn't a big place, but it was busy when I was there. As usual just stopped in for a beer. Located right in the middle of downtown on main street it was really easy to find. A really friendly local place where the patrons are involved in the gentle kidding of other patrons in a friendly way. The cheese dip with the pretzels was really good as was their IPA. Although we sat inside they do have a back patio. L shaped bar and a half dozen tables complete the bar. Brooklyn may not be on your radar as a destination for a good brewery but you might want to add it to your list. read more

After Covid you would think they would be trying hard to get customers. Thursday night with 4 people. 2 hour wait for burgers and fries. Seriously! The burgers were good but the fries were soggy, as usual. 2 beers only (we wanted more) because our waitress was non-existent. 4 times, we had to ask for water. Had to go inside to get our tab, went back inside to pay our tab. Waitress was ???? The place was half empty at 6:30 and mostly empty at 7:30. Still didn't get out of there until 8:30. Fix it. I am a cook at Shady's. I LOVE my coworkers, we get along so well. I HATE this "normal" we are coming into. Our kitchen is small, we cook everything in a pizza oven or sandwich oven, doesn't take long for them to get filled up. Then, we don't have any more room to put, well, anything. And, if you come to our restaurant when we aren't busy, guess what? Your food takes a while. Want me to rush it? I can. You will still complain. So. Understand that we do the best we can, with what we have. And, change is coming soon. Stop making your servers cry for things they can't control. RUDE. UNACCEPTABLE! This is the toughest review I have had to write cause Shady's hit a grand slam five-stars with food during the "take-out only" time back in March/April. We'd take out twice a week it was so good. As soon as inside/outside seating was allowed again, it was night and day. The food part of the business has gone SERIOUSLY downhill. What happened to the carry-out-only cook? Tonight...1.5 hours to get food after we ordered. Four meals, all of them wrong. Three of them were burgers, and all three did not come as ordered. We were so hungry that we didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for them to correct it, so we just ate it disappointedly. Also, on our two previous trips before the one, long waits for food and fries were soggy and barely cooked in the middle and burnt on the ends. Although the service staff kept apologizing tonight over and over for the delay, the lack of qualified cooks I am afraid has doomed this place. And you can see that's the issue in the servers eyes. Unfortunately, this was strike three in the last month. So we won't be back until a new, experienced cooking staff is hired in. read more

Usually the foods good, but we just walked out after sitting for 10 mins with no menus and no greeting even after being told by a waitress that we could sit wherever. We had multiple servers walk right past us and act like we weren't there. I ordered their shady knots and their "stuffed" Chicago pizza because it was a long day at work. I was told we are busy and that the food would be ready in 45 to 60 minutes. I showed up to pick up my order at the 45 minute mark. The waitress hands me an order and I proceed to tell her that is not my order. She went and asked every server if they took my order. Finally she found the server that took my order and she brought it out. Both carryout boxes where cold. When I got home and opened the shady knots they where ice cold. The pizza was cold and burnt on the top and bottom. I only live 4 minutes away. I would not order carry out from them again. I guess it's back to Hungry Howies. read more

I've given this place sooo many tries. I Really wanted to like it here! Everytime I go though something happens that totally ruins the experience. Last time, I went with my husband and brother and we ordered one large cheese pizza. It took exactly an hour and 15 minutes for it to come out. There were only two other tables with people at the time, so it definitely wasn't busy, at all. We watched people come in after us and get their food before us. Some even finished their food and were leaving before we got ours. The waitress said nothing to us when she finally brought it out. Also, the mixed drinks never taste right. It must be the alcohol they use. Most have been undrinkable. I can't do it anymore : ( Also, I wouldn't order anything but the pizza. Even then it's a hit or miss. Sometimes it's amaaazing and other days it tastes freaking weird. Like they forgot a seasoning in the sauce and it tasted like tomato paste. Gross! read more

For Brooklyn, this place is REALLY nice. I mean really nice. No offense to Brooklyn, but it's a small town with not much diversity or fancy places. Shady's is NOT fancy, but a good bar/restaurant. We went around 9pm on a Friday night to watch some March Madness. There was about 8 of us and ordered a wide variety of snacks/ pizza. The beer selection was vast and really good, for Brooklyn's standards. The pizza was pretty tasty. The pretzel stick appetizer was good, but probably not worth the price. Although I did not try the stuffed mushrooms, they looked really, really good. When I'm back in Brooklyn, I will definitely suggest we give Shady's another visit. read more

Do not eat here! We ordered the soup special, meatball soup and the waitress brought the wrong soup. We asked for meatball and she repeatedly told us it was meatball when it was in fact tortilla soup. We asked for ice water 3 times and it wasn't given to us until we were finished with our food. We ordered an appetizer and it took over an hour to get it to us and it came out with our food. The appetizer was cold, the nachos were cold, and the pizza was cold. We asked to take them back and heat them up and when they were brought back they were still cold. I will never eat here again it is not good place to eat at! read more

Solid place.. Especially for Brooklyn. In town staying on the lake for a few days and decided i needed to get out for a bit and find a place with actual beer to drink.. not bud and garbage like that. Dad tells me this place is big on Michigan beers so off we went. They had a nice little selection of good craft brews. We all decided to grab a sandwich and all of us were happy.. I had the grilled cheese with the feisty feta sauce.. good stuff. I didn't get much "feisty" out of that sauce but it was still tasty.. We went here for lunch today. Easy to find and was able to park out front. Absolutely loved the unique bar top. Emma was our bartender/server since we sat at the bar. We ordered the Cheese Dip appetizer while we checked out the menu. Emma recommended burgers or pizza, so I chose the burger and husband got the roast beef and cheddar. They were out of fries so we selected macaroni salad as a side. Food was hot, fresh, and tasted great. Had to bring home half of the sandwiches because they were so big. This is an ideal spot to meet your friends for Happy Hour. The indoor decor is very pleasant, lighting good and staff have always been kind and helpful. Love the wood bar and high ceilings. It is fun trying out the different local beers. Have had the Reuben, deep dish pizza and salads and all were excellent. If you are coming/meeting a group of people, watch your bills though. Maybe our parties of 8-12 are just too confusing! Love this place, and as another reviewer mentioned, you'd never think you were in downtown Brooklyn. Really hope it stays around. Excellent beer and lots of variety, and their hamburgers are just full of flavor. Definitely a great place to hand out, listen to live music Ina very relaxed environment. For one of the few places in Brooklyn, what an embarrassment. An hour and 15 minutes to get 3 burgers and fries! Your staff is working their asses off and you can't get your kitchen right. I felt bad for the bartenders that night and your waiters because of how many complaints they received because of how poorly this place is managed. Your burgers are great, but the portion of curly fries you give is not worth the extra $1. You have a lot to figure out. I will not be back until something gets fixed. read more

Right smack in the downtown square of the bustling village of Brooklyn. A great place to hang, have a few beers & a little more upscale bar food. Pizza is delish. Sammies & service are great too. I know this next remark may strike as odd, however, the pickle they serve with the sandwiches are AWESOME! Local beers & wines are on tap. A MUST try is the Shady Mary, it's a twist on a Bloody Mary & is served with a tasty snausage stick with some beer floated on top. VERY tasty! Only gripe....get some TANQUERAY! Any real Gin drinkers do not care for Beefeaters or Seagram's = Bleck! They have some acoustic music at times & I hear they are going to have a beer garden/patio area when weather permits. ;-P read more

I really want to like this place...it's in a great location and Brooklyn can use a few decent places to eat. My wife and I have tried Shady's 4 times in the last 3 months. I have been disappointed on all occasions. I ordered the pizza, the Reuben sandwich and the chicken wings on the first three visits....all arrived either cold or at room temperature. This weekend I tried the smothered baked potato special. How could that not be hot? . Well they found a way; the baked potato was hard (undercooked) but the chili on top was smoking!!! They got it half right; hence the 1 star review. Can't they serve the food immediately after cooking? Do they know what a burner/ warmer station is? It's a fine establishment for drinking COLD beer and watching a game but be prepared for the bit**y barmaid! read more
