I started going to Shaggy five years ago upon a friend's recommendation, and have been seeing Yossi for cut and highlights. The salon is great, and Yossi is the BEST! I find his cut to be very chic and sophisticated, and I constantly get compliments. Both men and women take notice, and most are strangers on the street. Likewise for the color. He's created a beautiful, sexy warm-tone caramel color with subdued highlights.His thin highlights were placed carefully on the layers to accent the cut. Shaggy Hair Studio is warm, friendly and clean, appointments run on-time, but because the location is not convenient for me, I've tried other salons from time to time. NO ONE has been able to reproduce Yossi's cut. His ability to layer hair and work with clients' facial structure to enhance one's looks are what sets him apart from others. I am an artist myself, and see the incredible skill and talent he has. With only one head of hair, it remains my GO TO salon! I have been seeing Yossi for about two years after he was recommended by a friend. My hair is very difficult to style and I had been to so many different stylist previously and never been thrilled with the results. Since finding Yossi, I have trusted him with color (he has a brilliant eye), keratin, and most recently a haircut. I wasn't sure what cut I wanted, but let him just go for it, and wound up with what is easily the best style of my life (and thoughtfully cut for my type of hair, too!). So many faces I've come to know and love to see when getting my hair cut here. You're instantly greeted, given a robe and everyone runs on time like clock work - no waiting. I've written two reviews for Jasmine (I've been spelling her name like my co-workers, oops) but the past two visits she completely exceeded my expectations. Color + cut were on point and I've received such tremendous feed back that I giggle every time someone new compliments it. THIS GIRL HAS GONE BLONDE.....well, not really..but really light multi-toned highlights. And I love it! I've also been going through the painstaking task of growing my hair out from the shortest it was...and it's not that painful at all. Jasmine knows how to cut, thin and manipulate the hair so that it grows in perfectly. Hi. I'm the person who made an appointment for 8:30 Monday morning 4/3/17. I called the day before and requested 8, but you told me you could only do 8:30am. I arrived at 8:28 and the salon was locked. I stayed for a while knocking and waiting but still no answer. I went across the street to get a coffee and I continued calling and watching your door but there was no activity. I waited until 9am- an hour after you were supposed to have opened. A little background- On that day I was planning to go to City Hall to marry the man I have been with for 13 years. It was our anniversary. I ended up going to another salon (blue ciel- terrible) and having the worst bang trim and blowout ever. I relocated from Boston 1.5 years ago. The stylist who did my color (golden blonde highlights) only did color and taught others as well. Amazing. I had an appointment a couple hours ago with Yosi and it was the best experience I've had in New York. During the whole cut I never once felt nervous about the direction my hair was going (this never happens to me as I'm super picky about my hair). Upon relocating to NYC from Chicago, I had a million decisions to make. Where do I live? Where will I buy my groceries? What gym will I join? Well, after my first weekend in the city, I'm happy to report that I was able to cross "Where do I get my hair cut?" off of the list. Upon recommendation, I visited Yossi at Shaggy. It was the first place I got a hair cut in NYC and it will be the last. The salon has a lot of energy and everyone seems to be in a good mood. There is zero attitude and the entire staff ensured that I had a pleasant experience. Yossi was very busy, but he was able to squeeze me in between appointments. In spite of the fact that I was sneaking into the middle of his already full book, he never made me feel rushed. As a guy, I've never been real picky about where I went for a hair cut. They say if you find something you like, then stick with it. Over 10 years ago, I randomly walked into a small UES hair salon and got my first haircut from a stylist named Yossi. Impressed by the beautiful cut he provided, I made sure to keep the name of stylist in mind and return to him when needed. Even though the salon may have changed, the hairstylist has not. Over the past decade, I have continued to come back to Yossi time and again, and I am ALWAYS happy with the end result. Whether it be adding highlights, or cutting my hair super short, or cutting bangs and adding layers, the end result never disappoints. I've even gotten my husband over the years to also become a regular client of Yossi's and moving out to the suburbs since 2004 has not stopped us from coming back into the city just to see him and the crew at the studio every month. Yossi and Oren have opened a true gem that is Shaggy Hair Studio. The salon has a sleek, modern atmosphere without the pretentious attitude. The staff is most welcoming and extremely friendly and they make my family feel like they are a part of theirs (including my two young children). I always enjoy seeing people (men and women, both young and old) come in and leave with such beautiful looks. I trust Yossi and the staff at Shaggy Hair Studio completely and highly recommend this place to all of my friends and family. If you ever are in need of a new stylist or look, definitely stop here. Would not recommend. I made an appointment after reading the RAVE reviews - however, they MUST be bought/fake reviews because there is nothing exciting about this unclean and overpriced salon. The salon is owned by L'Oreal, and in true salespeople fashion my "stylist" tried to push so many products on me it was uncomfortable. I literally had to say no about 20 times. It was so frustrating and they seemed more dead set on selling product than actually listening to what I wanted to do with my hair. I will not return. read more

This is a terrific salon on every level including: atmosphere, decor, products, service, and the talented stylists. But, the real highlight of the salon is Yossi who is a hair genius and an expert with blonde highlights! Yossi is actually an expert in all colors, but I have to emphasize how great he is with blonde because of my personal experience as a blonde - he's been doing my hair for over 10 years and I have LOVED every hairstyle, haircut, and highlight he's done. I decided to classify him as a hair genius years ago after he saved my sister's hair. She had a terrible experience at another salon and ended up with muppet-colored hair after the hairdresser tried to fix the first mess she made (this was the best description we could come up with for the reddish color tinged with a purple hue). It was a bit of work, but Yossi was able to make her hair a beautiful shade of brown and kept her hair in great condition! Yossi is very careful to make sure he knows what you want and will do exactly what you describe, but he is great at recommending a cut, style, and color that compliments you and your style. I tend to defer to his recommendations and am always very happy. Over the years, I've referred a few friends to Yossi - both male and female - and each one of them has loved their hair so much that they became regular customers. I also moved out of the city for a few years, but kept Yossi as my hair dresser - he's so good that the cost of the trip and flight to NYC on top of the hair cut was still worth every penny! read more

Coming to Shaggy's is always a lovely experience. Everybody is super friendly and willing to accommodate you in any way they can; they are also super efficient, so there is never any wait to get started. The salon itself is beautifully styled, modern and elegant. The products they use are fantastic--the hair mask/heat treatment saved my hair from all the damage I incur through drying and straightening (it also smells amazing)! As for color, these guys are truly experts at what they do. I never believed I would look natural as a blonde, but Oren found the perfect combination of color and highlights and now people are always shocked when I tell them I am actually brunette. The next time he became angry when I had told him my plan to do my usual Japanese straightening elsewhere rather than doing something new with the keratin treatment he was recommending.
