i really like their bagels. they taste very fresh and good quality. their doughnuts are much cheaper than i expected considering the creativity and size. Lots of great breakfast options. i give 4 stars bc i didn't like the coffee selection and their drink prices! the employees are nice but they could use more staff on at once. i noticed some people waiting a while to order bc the cashier was also cooking breakfast sandwiches. nice spot and good parking. you will get sun blasted in the morning because of the large windows. read more

First time at Shaka this morning! We were the only ones in the shop at the time, donuts take a little time to make so just be patient! As far as the donuts my friend and I both had the Big Island as well as Toasty and Bananas. The donuts are cake and were very delicious. The icing was laid on heavy which drowns out how good the cake donut actual is. The icing is put on the donuts when they're still warm which causes the donuts to be very messy. There had to be a better way to get the toppings on without seeing them go through 5 pairs of gloves. Overall a good experience, definitely would come back to try a few more donuts and the donut sandwiches. The rating is getting 4 stars because I was a little frustrated with the customer service. It was obvious the girl helping us hated what she was doing and there was visible frustration over how messy things were. read more

New donut spot downtown! The donuts are really good. We had the OG (glazed), Aloha (pineapple and coconut) and Big Island (cream cheese and guava). The donuts themselves were light and crispy and held up against the toppings. The Aloha was my favorite with vanilla icing, coconut flakes and pineapple drizzle! The Big Island was ok...I feel it should have guava glaze and cream cheese drizzle. The cream cheese icing was a little much. The donuts are hand dipped to order so they are always fresh!! Yum yum and YUM! I absolutely hope that the crowds I saw during my first visit continue to frequent this delicious donut stop so that it sticks around in the SODO neighborhood! It was not until my last donut (of 2.5 donuts) that I remembered to take a photo because they were so delicious! I took my parents who were in town visiting, and they too gave 5 star/2 thumbs up reviews! Their base donut is light and fluffy inside with a lightly crisp outside and a touch of flavor (maybe vanilla?) to it that is subtle enough to not overwhelm when toppings are added. I tried the beach bum (cinnamon sugar), a basic chocolate iced (see image) and split a coco-nuts (vanilla icing, toasted coconut, and key lime drizzle) with my mom. My parents both tried the salty (salted caramel). The beach bum is a perfect, light flavor. The basic chocolate was deliciously simple. My parents loved their salted caramel donuts. Now, that coco-nuts donut was nothing short of DIVINE! It was full of perfectly paired flavors yet still not too heavy! I was a bit skeptical since I enjoy simple donuts, but I took one bite and immediately said "THIS IS SO GOOD" out loud! The pricing is amazingly affordable (less than $2 per custom donut). It was clean and crisp inside with friendly service. Check this place out and visit them as often as your insulin levels and waistline will allow It is a guaranteed delicious treat. I've been here a couple of times. Shaka donuts is another fixture in SODO. I usually grab a variety of donuts for a group, but decided to spring for a breakfast sandwich. The bacon, egg, and cheese is fundamentally sound. The sugar from the donut melds well with the grease and crispiness of the bacon. I would caution that it's a little light so if you're used to a substantial breakfast you'll be hungry in an hour. The donuts are always good. This is a refreshing new spot in the semi-congested area of SoDo. In a newly built smaller strip near the corner of Michigan and Orange it sits on the corner. There's about 10 parking spots directly in front of the building but in peak times there's still lots of parking immediately around and down the side streets. I went on a soft opening morning with about 6 people ahead of me in the line which moved relatively quick but not slow by any means. The staff were all pretty busy but everyone looked friendly and not frazzled. I like the modern and fresh design both outside and inside. Matte white subway tiles along the walls, cool light fixtures, and a graphic tile lining the outer main counter. The Hawaiian theme of the place isn't so much a theme as more a sprinkle and nod to the island itself - done so thru the brand logo, donut names, and sandy sun washed tones of the wood floors. I really appreciate they did that with hints as opposed to being a gaudy and kitschy or touristy Hawaiian place. The whole point of this place is fresh and made to order donuts so yes you will have to wait depending on how many people/orders are ahead of you, but trust me you want to be patient - having these while they're still warm is KEY! They MELT in your mouth you just have to try it! At the same time if you don't have the time to enjoy it fresh fresh no need to worry. I took some home for my boyfriend a few hours later and they were still delicious. (Ps to revive the made to order vibe then nuke them in the microwave for like 30 seconds to get the vibe) Now to the donuts - HELLO! YUM! These are standard size donuts but the batter is more like a cake donut... but don't freak out. It's light and fluffy with the outer thin layer giving just the right amount of crisp crunch. Up to you and your preferences on which topping you go for but my favorites were definitely the "Big Island" which is a cream cheese icing with a guava drizzle, and the "Salty" which is caramel icing and sea salt - perfect for those who crave salty sweet treats. I'll be making my way back a few times to eventually try the rest of the flavor toppings (like the bacon one and the nutty buddy one!) Now they also have coffee and breakfast sandwiches and I got the Sausage and egg sandwich which was friggen delicious! Skip McDonald's - this is where it's at! The sandwiches are served on a bare donut (but they did say you could add powdered sugar or maple drizzle on top) but the donut by itself isn't a diabetic coma type sweet so it tasted great with the sausage, egg and cheese. I will say the cheese was American (yuck) but the donut helped to mask that choice. I'd love to be able to choose which cheese to go on your breakfast sandwich (cheddar or pepper jack would be awesome) but it was still yummy and not heavy or greasy! If you like donuts, breakfast, or coffee and can get a chance to stop in during their soft opening morning hours then I would definitely recommend doing so! Meh... I was excited to try their donuts because so many people rave about them. I was in the area and decided I needed to stop. The worker there was very pleasant and nice so that was what helped give an extra star. I got an order of the donut holes and a strawberry creamed filled one. All I can say is they were pretty bland and I was super disappointed. The donut holes were dry and made me feel like I needed a sip of milk with every single bite because it just stuck to my mouth. The strawberry cream filled donut would have been better if the filling was more evenly distributed in the donut. But it was all on one side at the edge (not the middle) and there was barely any filling in it - I may have gotten two bites with filling? And the donut itself was dry, just like the donut holes. I'm glad I only stopped while I was in the area because if I had driven all the way over for donuts this disappointed, I would've been extremely sad. Oh oh oh.... these donuts are superb! We ordered the Black Sand Beach, the Beach Bum and a Big Island! Each one of them were delicious and wonderfully flavored and warm. They are the perfect size, not too big nor too small. And they smell like heaven. I can't really pick a favorite one, because each of them was amazing in its own way - BUT that cream cheese icing/glaze on the Big Island is the best glaze I have ever had on a donut. The cronuts (croissant doughnuts) are absolutely delicious! The very best I have ever had and I have had a lot of cronuts because they are my favorite. I wanted to like the maple bacon long johns because it wasn't filled so I was expecting the classic savory and sweet but they candied the bacon so it was too sweet for me. I think a nice salty bacon on top would be more to my liking but they are absolutely beautiful doughnuts! The customer service was wonderful and the shop is clean and modern. The island fritters were cooked nicely but the coconut and pineapple flavors were subtle. I didn't taste any Nutella in the Nutella doughnuts so can't recommend but the Boston cream and the puff daddy were stellar filled treats. Good mornings start at SHAKA DONUTS! read more

Ok - I decided to give Shaka a second glance before reviewing. My first trip I have to admit I was not impressed. At that point they were doing a build your own donut concept and it honestly didn't blow me away. But boy am I glad I came back for seconds on this donut shop! They are now doing a more traditional set menu, and the options are SO interesting! Really good selection of flavors you won't see every day. We opted for the Cinnaroll (a cinnamon roll-inspired choice), the leap year (chocolate cake with a Guinness buttercream) and "Why's the rum always gone" (a bananas Foster DREAM that I would have again in a heartbeat). Highly recommend that you swing by and give this place a shot!! read more

Here's a new place on Michigan near Orange Avenue that has a nice twist for donuts. You can choose from 15 different Donuts which they will make fresh for you. Kind of like going to Krispy Kreme when the light is on and getting hot donuts off the rack. I got the Wipeout which is Fruity Pebbles, and the Black Sand beach which is cookie crumbles. These Donuts were very tasty and very fresh. Highly recommend try this place out they also offer coffee service and other copy items such as lattes, cappuccino, espresso etc. Or if you prefer they have sodas juice and water. read more

The reasons for my 3-star rating (and not 4 or 5 stars): 1. Open earlier. You're a bakery. A 7:30 opening time on the weekends is late. 2. Price! Nearly $40 (with 20% tip) for a dozen donuts. 3. Efficiency. Having arrived as they opened, it seemed nobody really knew what to do. So, while one guy made a couple sandwiches, the other took the orders of everyone in line (only about 5 people). Only after all orders were taken did he begin filling any of them. Just seems like an inefficient process. So, I might go back if I hit a sizable scratcher, but otherwise, I'll pass. read more

Came for made to order like we used to. Was in the mood for some hot fresh donuts. They are different donuts now, fancier and a bit more posh and pricier but the change is incredibly worth it. We got a dozen and half so we could try to sample everything and the quality change is noticeable off the bat. Everything tasted fresh and real, not tacky and overly-sweet. Staff was incredible and super helpful and the space is super clean and slick looking. Eating the donuts today that we got yesterday and they're still soft and melt in mouth. Our new go-to for sure. Shaka Donuts is FANTASTIC! The textures and flavors of the donuts are just want you want them to be. Everything tastes super fresh. The regular coffee is also delicious. The guava donut has an incredible custard inside. There's also a rum one that tastes like a bananas foster, which is one of my all time favorite desserts. The flavors are all really well done. ALSO...they make a donut breakfast sandwich. It's delish...they cut a donut in half, throw it on the griddle to crisp it up a bit and then fill it with egg, cheese and your choice of meat (I got a sausage patty). I went to Shaka Donuts for the first time this past Friday and I think this is the best donut place I've been to in Orlando. There was a variety of flavors that I havent seen before. I settled for a french toast donut and a blueberry cheesecake donut. Both donuts were really fluffy and light. Neither were too sweet which I really liked. The blueberry cheesecake was my favorite as it had really nice blueberry icing on top with just the right amount of cheesecake filling. The shop also had an ice cream and shaved ice section. There was plenty of seating on the inside and plenty of parking outside. The employees were really nice! One of them was testing out a lemon coconut donut, and offered a sample to me. It was amazing and I would definitely love to see it in a full donut form. The prices are really reasonable as well, with each donut being about 3.50/3.75. Shaka Donuts is in the heart of SoDo. Great location. My first time there, I ordered the Sea Salt Caramel and the coconut concoction one (can't remember the name and the website is down). The donuts were delicious - rich and decadent. This was the Shake Experience in a bite that I anticipated. However, the customer service did not match what I ordered or what appeared to be their brand. The only reason why I'm giving this a 3 star is because I've been at this location (3) three times, and all those times, the customer service was inconsistent. The person(s) and the counter gave me half smiles, and they seemed almost hesitant to help. The first two times, I shrugged it off and chalked it up to them getting their bearings as a new business. However, I knew that my 3rd visit there would be my last. During my last visit there, I witnessed another customer getting the full 'Shaka Experience' while I was greeted with a mediocre 'hello' (again) and "Are you an UberEats driver?" This last two visits, I just got a mediocre 'hello'. Interestingly, the other customer and I were there at the same time. Great customer service should be consistent with *everyone* who patrons your business. All this to say, it doesn't matter if you have amazing food or product, if the customer service is subpar...consistently, you'll lose customers. read more

The donuts here are a must try but you have to try them fresh. Don't take then home. When they're hot the donut and the toppings melt in your mouth. But once it has cooled off, it just taste like a cakey donut. Don't get me wrong, it's still delicious but it's not the same experience as a warm fresh donut. I was the only customer at the time and I did wait longer than expected. So I would imagine if they are busy it may take a little bit to get your order. My kids and I were down in Orlando for the week and as we left we happened upon Shaka Donuts and Shaka Ice Company. We stopped in. I like cake donuts and Krispy Kreme and everything in between. I was headed to another donut place when I spotted this new shop along the way and decided to try them out. The donuts were not that great. I expect a donut to hold its shape, but these started to break apart as soon as I picked them up. I guess I could have grabbed a fork, but that seems a little too precious for donut eating. Although they were light and had a little crunch on the bottom, the glaze and caramel (I got the OG and Salty to try) were very thick. I'm glad I didn't pick one of the more heavily sugared choices as I'm sure it would be overloaded and make the donut fall apart even more. If you want to do it for the 'gram, this is the place to go. It's beautiful inside and you'll be taken care of well (I counted at least 8 employees in the kitchen, which seemed like a lot). I'm not converted, sorry. We arrived at Shaka fairly early for a Saturday morning and the line was already out the door. The parking lot at Shaka Donuts was full, so we had to park at an adjacent lot. We stood in line for a few minutes. We studied the menu while waiting, so we knew right what we wanted. (Side note, if you are standing in line, you will have time to decide what you want, don't wait until the person at the counter asks you what you would like. They are busy so keep things flowing.) We ordered a half a dozen of made to order donuts. We decided on Pua - maple bacon, Mayor Buddy Dyer's - creamy peanut butter drizzle over peanuts and chocolate, the Beach Bum - cinnamon and sugar, and the one with Reese's pieces (sorry, I can't remember all of the names." We ordered coffee as well. We found a seat and just a few minutes later they called us to pick up our donuts. You can actually watch them making your donuts. Oh, the wait was worth it. The donuts are a cake-type, fried. The edges are just a bit crunchy and the toppings are heavenly. Remember, I said they are made to order. The bacon on the Pua was very good, nice and crispy.
