CauliPua Tacos and House Iced Coffee
    Gabby A.

I think that I had high expectations for Shaka Kitchen after watching the owner's "Chopped" episode. Unfortunately, these expectations were definitely not met; I really would like to come back and try something else here because the lunch I had here was very disappointing. The iced latte I got was watery and the cauliflower tacos were nearly inedible with how easily they totally fell apart, plus they had an unsatisfying flavor with way too many raw jalapeños for my taste. As a plus, the place is great to do work! Lots of seating and free wifi.

Coconut Crusted Shrimp & Grilled Mango Salsa Tacos

Ordered via DoorDash. The Coconut Crusted Shrimp & Grilled Mango Salsa Tacos looked kind of dry & unappetizing but actually were pretty tasty. I was disappointed with my Half Sushi Grade Salmon / Wild Caught Ahi Tuna (build your own bowl) because at $26 it was fairly little fish & mainly was base & toppings & sauce. For these prices they should be providing more quantity of the protein instead of me having to search for it!

Food (5/5): Ordered the Lava Rock tacos in a set of 3 and the South Point smoothie. The Lava Rock Tacos were nice a crispy with a good blend of flavors. Tasted super fresh and liked combination of mango, cabbage and shrimp. The South point smoothie was well blended and the right amount of sweetness. The only complaint is that it was too runny consistency and seemed a bit watered down. They could've put more fruit. Service (4/5): You order from a tablet which has nice photos of the menu item. The place was relatively empty when we came and the tacos and smoothie took around 10 minutes to come out. Ambiance (5/5): Nice tropical environment in the restaurant. There is a lot of seating with high top tables and some bench plus low top tables.

Walking around the area looking for a heathy option after a cycling class. I decided on Shaka as people seemed to like this place and had variety of options and I was looking for a smoothie. I order the first wave with chocolate protein and service was attentive and fast with my order. The place itself is very nice with variety of seating. My smoothie was pretty bigger which was great for the rice. I thought it would be sweater but it did the trick as a nice treat as it was as fiiling as I how'd it would be but did the trick and tasted good! Would come back to try something else !

lobster roll with chilled mayo dill seasoning and melted butter - seriously delicious & the perfect combo!

wow okay my first time here i met the ladies who own the business. they were sitting trying out their fall menu & they let me in try! They were so sweet and welcoming with my little pup Gibby. Great hospitality! okay to the good part. I went to early in the morning for a smoothie. I got the Aloha which wad the perfect consistency for a pitaya smoothie & they filled it right up to the top! Large size one size. I even came back in the afternoon because I was sold on their lobster rolls (i've been on a kick) The lobster roll was $22 for one $40 for 2. Not bad + a bag of chips. It comes on a warm potato roll with melted butter. the lobster has a dill mayo mix. It was just the perfect crisp taste for a light summer dinner. Now I'm off to see if I can perfect a lobster roll just like his one Thank you Shaka! I'll be back with my friends for sure hehe :)

Where do I start!? As a brain cancer / surgery survivor eating fresh, clean food is important to me. It's very rare to find a place with ownership who cares about the integrity and quality of the food they sell, from the meat to the salad dressing. Not only is the quality of the food superb but the taste is even better. After years of takeout and dropping in for my regular smoothie, I met the two lovely sisters who own all locations a few months ago. The owners were doing a photo shoot outside, and my sister, dog, niece , nephew and a very large double stroller rolled up. It was hot, and we needed to sit down but didn't want to interfere with the photo shoot. The owners stopped the photoshoot and had us sit down, had a lovely conversation and treated us as if we were family. Oh! And the restaurant is always spotless and very clean! Hard to choose a favorite item since the entire menu is delicious, but my top ordered times are: the Shaka bowl, waipio bowl, detox smoothie, big island açaí bowl, lava rock tacos.. I could go on forever!! Here's a photo of my small size bowl from takeout tonight.

Been here a few times now and never disappoints. The Food: the food is great. It's good for a light bite to eat. We love getting the shrimp tacos and the shaka bowl. It is perfect for this summer weather. The service: the food came out pretty fast and the people there were nice. The ambiance: cute interior and i like how there's outside seating for these hot summer days!

Ugh, Shaka, I wanted to like you. I really did. I got the large big island bowl and added peanut butter and almonds. Honestly, the bowl didn't taste like anything. It seemed very watered down like they put too much ice in the blend. Sad. Their selection is also limited and they don't offer green smoothie bowls, nor can you customize the base (like having peanut butter blended into it versus on top). On the plus side, they offer two different sizes though I wish their large were bigger. Inside is very cool and staff is friendly. Perhaps better for poke bowls. If you want a smoothie bowl you're better off going to Playa a few blocks away.

Jackfruit taco. Large portion size, tacos were overflowing needed a fork, so yummy!!

Delicious vegetarian jackfruit tacos, large portion size. Great place to work from, lots of outlets and tables. Good vibes all around. Thanks Shaka!

Good for a quick bite. I ordered online through Grub Hub. Their bowls are on the pricier and small side. They have pokè and acaì bowls, I tried one of their poké bowls. You can also make your own bowl. I sat outside to enjoy my bowl and their outside seating is cute and comfy.

Ordered two lava rock tacos for delivery, the taste was amazing, but unfortunately the tacos were super soggy. Not sure if it was because of the delivery packaging or because too much water and sauce in the package. The wrapper literally fell apart when trying to eat, so I had to use a fork.

Really good lava rock tacos! Filled to the brim and loved the spicy sauce they had on them

This spot is neat! Met with my friend for a few tacos and a poke bowl and there are no regrets here. I love the ambient, the neatness and the food! It was a bit spicy for me but I didn't care. I inhaled by poke bowl and couple of tacos because why not? My only complaint... they didn't have enough desserts for me to try. I also ordered a pina colada smoothie (or tropical, not sure) but didn't have much taste to it, it was very sour and very little coconut flavor. I wish I didn't have to drink it, I could've spend the money to buy more tacos. Good spot! :)

After reading some reviews on Yelp, I recommended Red Bamboo and a couple of other places and let them pick and they were really excited after reading the menu, so on a rainy Monday, my husband and I met them here for dinner and we're glad we did! The place is small so the tables are intimate but that adds to the ambiance. Our server was super friendly and professional and helped explain the menu to us. We got a variety of appetizers including coconut "chicken", spring rolls and fried zucchini slices (my fave). For my entree, I just ordered an appetizer portion of the "chicken" satay. Everything tasted really good! I don't eat at a lot of vegan places so I'm not clear on whether or not people who are vegan like eating things that are designed to mimic meat so that made for an odd sensation of eating something that was similar in taste and texture to a meat dish. Once I got out of my head, I was just able to enjoy everything for what it was....good tasting food served well in a comfortable restaurant. Even if you're not vegan, I think you'd enjoy this place. I definitely would like to go back.

And that's really one of the best things about this location of Le Botaniste (there around 7 locations in the city) - being right across from Bryant Park, you can enjoy a healthy lunch while enjoying the park! So what is Le Botaniste? It's an organic, plant-based, and carbon-neutral cafe with locations in NYC and a couple in Europe. So everything is vegan. Everything is organic. The calories and other dietary information are listed on the menu. I had their Chef Priyanka Samosa Bowl (a seasonal offering), which includes brown rice, saag, samosa balls, crispy chickpeas, turmeric onions, tamarind and green chutneys, and yogurt raita. It is 433 calories and 12 grams of protein. I thought it was good - although I thought the samosa balls were quite dry (the chutneys, saag, and raita helped), and I liked that it was light and healthy and wouldn't slow me down for the rest of my busy day. I also grabbed a water and a quinoa peanut butter cookie that I saved in my bag for later. (I noticed that they had some wines that I would have been happy to try - if you eat in, you can have a full experience with a drink.) I showed up right at 11 when they opened, and there was only one other customer. My bowl was ready in seconds and I was out the door and across the street seated in Bryant Park within a minute or two. If you're looking for a healthy vegan lunch in the neighborhood, Le Botaniste is a good option!
