This place is a hidden gem in Middletown. Located in a shopping plaza on the West side of Middletown, it is tucked away along with numerous other shops and restaurants. However, it is well worth the trip. While ramen is the main cuisine offered, there are also plenty of selection that's great to try out. The Gyudon bowl and the Tonkatsu bowl are both terrific. About the only type of Japanese cuisine not offered are the sushis and sashimis. The portions served were quite large, and pricing is very competitive compared to similar dining establishments. Inside is well decorated, there's also an outside seating area. Staff are friendly and attentive. It is a great addition to the expanding area dining options.

    Soy chicken wings so delicious

I give the Soy Garlic wings a very enthusiastic five stars! The coating is nicely done. Just the right crisp (it must be a secret coating) soooo good. The wings were crisp on the outside, tender and juicy inside, cooked perfectly. The Shaka ramen was close to five stars. The broth is extra thick, almost greasy. Never had ramen broth like it before, rich pork broth. I would come in just for the wings alone. Awesome service, immaculate clean and good food priced right.

Good vegetarian options. By far the best ramen place around town. The vegetarian ramen and the vegan tofu bowl were amazing (try spicy). Must try vegetarian bao buns, they are burst of flavor. The lemon tea with mango boba (unlike tapioca) was very fresh and the best we had so far. Went in on a Sunday evening and place was clean, waiter was punctual, delivery was fast, bathrooms were clean, food was amazing. Definitely recommend trying this place.

First time here, it was great. Service was very good. Let me tell you this place is very clean. They have a lot of culture and history on the wall's. The food was very good. The broth is tasty and noodles were cooked perfectly. I'm definitely coming back.

Visited this place last night and had ramen for the first time with the fam. The restaurants decor upon entering was nice and clean. We were quickly greeted & seated. Our waitress was nice & attentive. I had a passion fruit tea with mango boba. I also had a ramen combo with the spicy ramen and shrimp tempura. Both were tasty! We also tried the soy garlic wings as well and they were good. We all were satisfied with our choices and pricing was reasonable. I'd definitely return here.

    Tonkatsu Ramen

Very good atmosphere and convenient location in Middletown. We ordered the Tan Tan and Tonkatsu ramen, as well as tornado fries (reminded us of our latest trip to Seoul where countless vendors sold tornado fries). The tornado fries was very flavorful and crispy. Just be wary that some bites will contain a mouthful of cheese dusting. The ramen was packed full of flavor, however the amount of soup was a letdown. I've eaten at countless ramen shops and I never experienced just a small puddle of soup remaining after consuming the noodles. Another side note, the menu offers a combo special for $20 which includes a ramen and appetizer. Most of the ramen was $14-15. The tornado fries was $3. When I asked would be get two since it's $20 for a combo, the waitress said the combo only includes one appetizer. Why would I pay $20 for a ramen and tornado fries, when I could just order the $3 tornado fry separately? I guess if you were to order the combo, just stay away from the lower priced appetizers such as tornado fries and edamame. There was also an option for takoyaki for the combo set but takoyaki wasn't listed to order separately on the appetizer menu? I wouldn't come out of my way to dine here, but it's a solid spot if you're craving ramen and happen to be in the area.

My wife recommended this place . Very good Ramen the food was delicious. I also got Gyoza and Steamed Buns

    Salad and ramen

The food is really good and flavorful, portions are big and definitely worth the price . Service is great they check up on you to see if you need anything, very polite and hard workers. They clean up as they see trash so your table is very clean as well as the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice, quiet and private . 10/10 experience

    Nasty ramen

it was nasty I got from the kids meal the egg in there was cold I asked for no veggies they still gave me it and poor service place was packed the boba tea was nasty and noodles were stale and the fried chicken was soggy broth was nasty

    Menu

Shaka Ramen certainly exceeded my expectations in every way. The Garlic Soy Wings were so good. The Shaka Ramen itself was a flavor explosion. Rich broth, perfectly textured noodles, and fresh ingredients made for an unforgettable bowl. The cozy yet modern ambiance added to the experience, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. What truly stood out was the great service. My waiter was not only friendly but also attentive and helpful with suggestions, offering valuable recommendations and enhancing my overall enjoyment. Shaka Ramen is a must-visit for anyone seeking top-notch ramen, delightful wings, and a positive dining experience. I'm already looking forward to my next visit

Ugh.. hot tea in plastic cups!
    TT B.

We decided to try the newest Middletown restaurant since we love a good ramen entree. The decor is very captivating due to either the owner or the corporation. The ambience is surprisingly nice, considering the place is in a strip mall. We were seated and our server (a seemingly sad gal we were able to get a smile out of later on) came to take our drink order. We decided to get hot tea along with our water. We were expecting classic tea in small ceramic cups, but were taken aback when the server came to the table with our hot tea served in cold Drink cups, which were plastic! (See the picture I've added, as an example of the type of cup she presented) While I realize that most plastic cups now do not contain BPA, do you really want to be drinking hot tea out of a plastic cup? This made the restaurant feel cheap like those where the menu is overhead and alighted for you to choose items by numbers and take out. Most Asian countries regard tea as ceremonial or at least respect the drink enough to serve in a proper vessel. This was a major turn off and immediately we felt the classiness and charm of the decor as incongruous with the food and service. We sent the plastic "tea cups" back and stuck with water. We had a few starters and they were good. We were too turned off to get ramen, but will try again another day. Note to restaurant or franchise: Please don't create a pretty restaurant and ruin the experience with hot tea in plastic cups.

Great atmosphere and wonderful servers, but the main reason I keep coming back is the food. The ramen and appetizer combo is a really good deal for only $20. My go-to is the tan tan ramen with minced pork on top with the tornado fries. I tried the spicy wings today and was also pleasantly surprised. 5 star experience overall.

I was super excited to try this restaurant after hearing good things and there just aren't many Korean food places around me. I was told this would be authentic Korean food and I couldn't wait, as I'm Korean and miss my grandma's traditional food! We arrived around 4:45pm and the hours listed say 6pm. We went to go sit down so we could look through the menu before ordering and were told it's take out only. This was a major bummer and some of the things we wanted to order would have been difficult to eat in the car. It was also 80 degrees out and I live about 35-40 minutes from here. We still ordered cause we wanted to try it and were hungry. The food came out fast and we were also given 2 small containers of cucumber kimchi! I ordered the tofu bibimbap and I'm sorry to say it had zero flavor. If you are looking to just make it spicy, they do give you a container of spicy sauce to put on it. My friend ordered the bulgogi with rice and Ttokbokki. The Ttokbokki were delicious and were the perfect level of spicy! The bulgogi was also very good, but next time we might try the spicy bulgogi! Overall, I would give it a try.

It has the look and feeling that you are in Japan and not in a cheap, tourist way. The location is really neat, clean, and sanitary. Additionally, they went the next step as we were seated in a table with chairs but the chairs all had soft, pillow cushions, providing extra comfort while dining. I love that you can see the kitchen while they cook as the aromas of the delicious ramen are being prepared. If you see the bathroom there, do not be alarmed to see that their toilet has a bidet set-up. They also have toilet paper if you have never used a bidet before. Now to the best part, the food! There are two dishes I highly recommend: Bulgogi Ramen and the chicken Katsu with the bulgogi rice bowl a good follow-up. The ramen is delicious with the meat being tender, flavorful and the sweet bulgogi taste seeps into the broth, adding extra flavor. The noodles taste fresh and hand-made as well! The kimchi provides a nice counterbalance to the sweetness of the meat and broth. The bulgogi rice bowl is good too for you do not want ramen for the day. However, the chicken katsu is delicious!!!! The chicken is so crispy that you can hear the crunch sound as you bite into it. It is cooked to perfect, thin, and uniform throughout. The rice is piping hot, cooked to perfection, and a lot is provided. The cabbage provided is a nice, refreshing counterbalance to the richness of the katsu and rice. Lastly, get a boba tea drink. The flavors are delicious like the lychee and the boba is not chewy that you will have to bite and bite. One bite and it dissolves in your mouth and is in your stomach. Lastly, the service. Gabriel was phenomenal! He was attentive, gave great recommendations, and made my family and I feel welcomed like we were eating at his house. He was funny, interactive, and accommodating. Overall, great server. Kevin (the host ) was phenomenal as well. He was so humble to come by and serve us our food. He never left us unattended. Last but not least, John (the owner) is hands down one of the best owners of a restaurant I have seen. He is kind, funny, compassionate, and took his time to interact with and talk to all the patrons. He made you feel like family, asking my family and I our names and making great small talk. He was open to talking about himself and his inspiration about his restaurant even when the place was about to close. Owners who stay late near closing time on a Sunday evening, not many do that. Living in Virginia, I will miss this place. Their food is one of the best that I have had and I will be counting down the days I can come back to Rohoboth Beach to bathe in their ramen and chomp into the katsu once again!

We were seated at a cozy booth. We started with an order of the purple, sweet potato fries, and they were delicious--hot and fresh, tempura style. Each of us ordered a different Ramen bowl. The portions were healthy. The bowls were like a picture in a magazine, so colorful and varied. Unable to finish our entire bowls, we asked for takeout containers. When the server returned, he clearly directed us to separate the noodles and the broth. His attention and concern was impressive. Miyagi is a must in Rehoboth Beach. It actually tasted better. They added ginger and it was spicy. I liked the Taiwanese cabbage better than what we had in Hawaii, which was regular cabbage. The ribeye steak ramen was good as well. It makes me want to try the rib eye entree. I like the black pepper flavor. I took the steak out as soon as it served, so it would not cook anymore in the broth.
