The first time I went, was about a year ago, and I loved it then as well, but forgot to make a review. I went again recently, and I have to say, for the price you get the portions are good! I highly enjoyed coming here. Their coconut rice is amazing, I love their chicken, although it is a bit spicy, and the onions are phenomenal. I always get the chicken bowl. My only complaint or that sometimes it's extremely busy and you have to wait in a really long line because it's so popular so try to get there before 6:00 PM. I wasn't a huge fan of it the black beans, but I also grew up on Cuban black beans, so these just didn't do it for me, but the rice is on point! I appreciate that they bring the food to your table, it's more of a order and sit yourself, than a restaurant seating type of thing but it suits the beach ambiance! read more

Fun place to visit. Stopped in to try and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the outdoor dining. Loved that you are able to choose your seat and order at the window. The parking lot made it feel like it would be busy but we noticed that the lot was shared by other restaurants. Don't let the amount of cars sway you from stopping in. read more

Fantastic little place in the heart of Surf City! Not great parking but they had decent seating outside and be prepared to stand in line to order! They offered daily specials along with the menu, and soda and beers available as well. We ordered the striper fish taco with a blueberry salsa and slaw- the flavor profile was outstanding! I'm new to the area so I'm having a ball trying all sorts of new places! Shaka Taco was suggested to me by my realtor! I imagine in the summer this place is pumping. It's right across the street from the beach and plenty of parking. They have a walk up window to order and plenty of seating on their deck. Their menu is on a board just outside with limited items and plenty of drink options. I ordered the carne asada taco on a flour taco. I also ordered a side of queso to take home. The seasoned steak was so delicious and tender! The flour taco shell was soft and fresh. Then the cabbage, diced tomatoes, cilantro and lightly grated cheese on top all just melted in my mouth! My mother and I went to surf city a year ago and this was the very first restaurant we went to as soon as we arrived and the food was really great, I had their wings and they were Bomb I mean I've had quite a lot of wings but these were spectacular 10/10, the food service is quite interesting, it's kinda like a food truck but established, only that your food gets served to you at your table, their menu is on a wall with drink and bottles outside to label what drinks they have, quite clever and a nice touch imo. Everything is done outside, ordering & eating. It is quite shaded and have this sorta bar looking thing on the side of the restaurant. The whole place is really comfy, I enjoyed it so others definitely will. (10/10 will come soon again!) read more

Shaka taco is a great quick casual spot for tacos and more! We tried fish and chicken tacos, shrimp quesadilla, and the jerk pineapple wings. The kids quesadilla is a great deal and is the same size as the adult one but just comes without chipotle mayo and has chips on the side so that's a great move if you don't mind skipping the chipotle mayo. Everything was flavorful and yummy! We will definitely be back next time we are at the beach! read more

I ordered the chicken nachos and they were delicious! I have celiac disease and had no issues, the restaurant has numerous celiac friendly options. The price was very reasonable considering the portion of the nachos - it could've easily been shared with 2-3 other people. I'd go back!!! The food is pretty good, considering it's on the beach and not super expensive. The bowls are basically $10 each and the portions are pretty good. I got the veggie bowl, and I liked it. It was maybe a tiny bit spicy (the sauce) but not overwhelmingly so. There were plenty of veggies and I liked the rice. My drink was also not bad! It was like $7 and was basically a hard seltzer with blackberries in it. Ambiance is fine and I like that they try to clean the tables in between parties. Finally, it's not super easy to find parking, and there is a line. However the staff are all really nice and do their best to keep up! read more

I'd have to say I was pretty disappointed with my meal based on the generally positive reviews I saw about this restaurant. The staff was friendly enough, and the parking is what you'd expect from a spot near the beach: pretty packed. Given the amount of time I spent waiting in line to order my food, I was really expecting to eat something that pack more of a punch than what I received. I ordered the fish taco bowl with coconut rice and rice added. The fish itself was fried quite nicely, but that's where the compliments end. There was no flavor in the meat. Where's the salt? Where is the spice? I was also quite let down by the coconut rice, there was no coconut to be tasted. I embellished my bowl with a generous helping of their hot sauce and their salt & pepper mix and that made it a bit more enjoyable. The space itself was quite busy as stated before. Not a big deal for most, but given your comfort level being around this many people during a pandemic, you might want to use caution. I was okay with it. I'd say the bulk of my vote has to do with the proximity of the restaurant's location to the beach, and the general atmosphere rather than the food itself. Now granted, I only had one thing off of their menu. Perhaps their other items are better. The woman in front of me in line swore by the lobster bowl...perhaps I should've had that instead. We'll never know. But all you've got is a foodie and taco snob severely let town by a meal lacking in creativity. Hope this helps. read more

Good spot for casual tacos by the beach! Wouldn't really call it authentic mexican (the carne asada was a little bland and not as roasted, for example) but would definitely recommend getting the fish and shrimp taco! The menu also had some wings which we tried (jerk pineapple) which was delicious! The marinade really seemed homemade and was tasty. Super cute place, beach hut meats taco stand with great vibes. Super Aesthetically pleasing. I'm definitely going to give it another try because my first experience was not great. Great beach adjacent joint with a serious "surfer feel". The ambiance is tikis and outdoor seating. The tacos are fantastic and so worth the long line. The fish tacos have a great, crunchy coating and a fantastic flavor. The chicken is only ok, as it is a trifle under seasoned. The shrimp taco is the star! I was there during a cold winter weekday, but it looks like an AWESOME place to hangout, drink a beer and have some tacos during the summer. Waiting patiently in line on a busy Saturday night, a female employee from the attached surf city surf school comes out and offers the group in front of us the opportunity to follow her because she can take their order in the surf shop. Tacos are pretty good, we got a little bit carried away and ordered like 3 of everything. The tacos are bigger than traditional tacos but still smaller than Tex-Mex style. So you probably want to stick to 2-3 per person. What really makes this place an experience is the seating arrangement which will truly make you feel like this is a proper beach town. The only thing that could make this place better is if it were on the beach or beach adjacent but the view is obstructed by one last row of businesses on the other side of the street.
