This was the first time we had been in a while. The new menu is odd and limited. My husband's chicken sandwich was ok and the fries were good. The shrimp cocktail was not what I was expecting. The shrimp were soaking in a Clamato mixture and they didn't have that pop you would expect from a shrimp cooked perfectly. I have a gluten allergy so the menu was too concerning for me to try an entree. I had the coop and cukes which are deviled eggs and homemade pickles. Pickles were great but the deviled eggs weren't impressive. The yolk mixture was too runny. Also, if you order the house margarita, be prepared for one of those canned/draft margarita's. It sounds like it's often sent back to be replaced with an actual margarita. read more

We were planning to hit up another place for dinner and drinks but we drove by here and it was really lively and so we decided to give it a try instead. Small dining room with lots of TVs (perfect for March Madness) and a long bar where you have a front seat view to the kitchen. We were greeted right away and seated inside but there is a beautiful outside deck option for seating. Our server was busy but really attentive, she was sweet to describe the menu and the options were right up my alley. It's upscale simple is how I will describe it, a nice cross of seafood and Mexican food. You can get tacos or bowls, with loads of options. As a vegan who occasionally eats fish, this worked really well! We both went with bowls, he had the Three Amigos and I had the Mahi, both with rice and beans. We had started with the chips and guacamole appetizer, the guacamole here could have been more elevated and they give you a big bowl, I was surprised it didn't come with salsa also. The chips had a sweet seasoning on them, overall solid. The bowls were really good, perfectly cooked rice, the fish stayed flaky which seems hard to do when it's in pieces in a bowl. There was one dominant seasoning that we couldn't place on it all that seemed a little out of place (cinnamon? Nutmeg?) but I would order this again no doubt. The drinks were string, real strong. I went with friends on cinco de mayo for dinner and to watch a band. We sat out on the lower deck. I ordered steak tacos with a side of chips and queso. My tacos were extremely filling and delicious! The queso was edible but not great. It was thin and flavorless. I had ordered their house margarita, which was lacking tequila the first glass. I asked the waitress-whom I might add was super sweet, she called us all "Love" - to grab me another margarita, but this time with tequila. She did just that! So service was on point! The space is super cool, lots of things to look at- 2 house directly in between the deck and the ocean. I got a good shot of the moon as I walked the boardwalk towards the ocean! It was a Friday night so outside seating was full but we preferred to sit inside in the air conditioning and away from the band playing outside. We were seated and received menus immediately. However, after 15 minute wait without being seen by wait staff, one from our party ordered our drinks from the bar. Wait staff arrived while the drinks were being ordered at the bar. Wait staff was attentive. It took quite a while for the food to arrive; over an hour from when we walked through the door. Wings were delicious. Voodoo tacos and fries were great. Steak bowl's rice was scrumptious. So the food was good, the service and food time delivery was just slow. Food was tasty, but not what was ordered. They ran out of rice, how. Rice is a cheap staple that you can make piles ahead. If you run out, send someone down to IGA. My 3 amigos had 2, it had NO mahi, maybe 3-4 shrimp and pork that was too tough to eat. Flavor there, just a lot of gristle. Tortillas should have come with it, had to ask for them. First I live here in surf city and we have tried to have dinner here before with similar issues. The servers here are great doing all they can. The owner and kitchen staff need to sort out their own problems we were here for two hours of which we watched several tables that were seated after us be served food and left before our food ever came out. We also witnessed another two tables having a similar situation. The food not worth the wait. We will never come back. A relaxing restaurant away from the hustle and bustle of this popular beach destination, this sweet spot serves delicious food and beverages and provides a path to the shore as well as great local live music. Enjoy a quiet afternoon on a weekday for lunch or a lively experience in the evening and on weekends. My preference is to walk on the beach during the week early afternoon then grab a bite to eat before heading home when this place is quiet, but I do enjoy meeting friends here for dinner and to listen to live music. If you don't want to wait for a table for dinner, aim to arrive around 5 pm. Keep in mind that during tourist season waitstaff and the kitchen have their hands full, so order a cocktail and chips with tropical salsa once you get your table then decide on one of their bowl entrees. I recommend the mango Margarita, and I usually get grouper or Mahi and have never been disappointed. Musical acts are usually local and top notch. Plenty of free parking across the street. Well behaved dogs on leashes welcome if sitting outside, but it does get crowded, so be mindful of both your pooch and other guests if bringing a dog here after 6 pm. There is an upstairs area for seating with a view of the ocean, but accessible by stairs only. There is a noise ordinance, so the music is usually not so loud that you can't comfortably converse with friends and waitstaff. Now, this is the beach, so if you are favored by bugs, I recommend spraying your ankles and arms if you plan on dining al fresco. read more

What a great addition to Surf City! You can't go wrong with three decks, an ocean view, corn hole & other activities, live music most nights, and, of course, good food & cocktails. I have visited SCL several times, and each visit was a refreshing, fun event. The waitstaff is unflaggingly energetic and friendly, which is impressive because they have three flights of stairs to contend with to take care of their clientele. The food is good, but there's nothing particularly remarkable about it. The Mole Bowly Birdie was tasty and filling, and both the Stoked Steak and Baja Bird burritos were good enough for me to actually crave one or the other occasionally. I really liked their Deep Blue Sea and Caipirinha cocktails, and my friends enjoyed the sangria. The primary reason I go to Surf City Line is for the view & super relaxed & relaxing atmosphere. We have enjoyed this place in the past even though the prices are too high for what you get. Don't usually mind when it is good. However, we took friends last night and were so disappointed. The fish was dry and tough. When we requested extra crema, we were charged with no warning (Other local places do not charge for this). Finally, love the multi level decks with the option of eating inside and usually appreciate the entertainment. Last night, the music was a little too loud. We had asked because we hate having to yell across the table. The host basically ignored our question and said eh, not too bad. However, our waiter didn't come to our table for about 15 minutes even though the restaurant wasn't very busy. When we finally put in our order, our food took about an hour to get to us.
