    Shrimp Bowl

Visited here on a very uncrowded Tuesday night and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and food. We started with grouper bites and peel and eat shrimp and selected a few different entrees-- all tasty and generously sized. We had great service and had a fun night in an uncrowded spot. Win win!

We were planning to hit up another place for dinner and drinks but we drove by here and it was really lively and so we decided to give it a try instead. Small dining room with lots of TVs (perfect for March Madness) and a long bar where you have a front seat view to the kitchen. We were greeted right away and seated inside but there is a beautiful outside deck option for seating. Our server was busy but really attentive, she was sweet to describe the menu and the options were right up my alley. It's upscale simple is how I will describe it, a nice cross of seafood and Mexican food. You can get tacos or bowls, with loads of options. As a vegan who occasionally eats fish, this worked really well! We both went with bowls, he had the Three Amigos and I had the Mahi, both with rice and beans. We had started with the chips and guacamole appetizer, the guacamole here could have been more elevated and they give you a big bowl, I was surprised it didn't come with salsa also. The chips had a sweet seasoning on them, overall solid. The bowls were really good, perfectly cooked rice, the fish stayed flaky which seems hard to do when it's in pieces in a bowl. There was one dominant seasoning that we couldn't place on it all that seemed a little out of place (cinnamon? Nutmeg?) but I would order this again no doubt. The drinks were string, real strong. Great beer selections too! We took our last round outside to enjoy the live music on the deck which was a great time. We will be back!

    Steak tacos, chips and queso

I went with friends on cinco de mayo for dinner and to watch a band. We sat out on the lower deck. I ordered steak tacos with a side of chips and queso. My tacos were extremely filling and delicious! The queso was edible but not great. It was thin and flavorless. I had ordered their house margarita, which was lacking tequila the first glass. I asked the waitress-whom I might add was super sweet, she called us all "Love" - to grab me another margarita, but this time with tequila. She did just that! So service was on point! The space is super cool, lots of things to look at- 2 house directly in between the deck and the ocean. I got a good shot of the moon as I walked the boardwalk towards the ocean! It was a fun night!

Outdoor seating (no…read moreindoors) and weathered wood lends authenticity to the Surf City vibe, but then one also needs to contend with the birds and heat (minus the ocean breeze). We drove here with friends from Jacksonville (NC) and experienced the food and service and, afterwards said we'd definitely return here. Why? Tacos. We ordered four - Tuna, Shrimp, Chicken, and Veggie- all on a soft corn tortilla. Each one packed a mouthful of flavor combinations that were distinct and memorable. My blackened and seared tuna took a different turn with the bacon, yet it melded well with the cabbage and the spicy mayo. My favorite - the blackened and grilled Shrimp taco - included Asian slaw and sweet chili sauce that complimented the char. Our friends ordered the seafood nachos which frankly looked liked the shrimp and other seafood were overwhelming the chips! If I had been hungrier, I would have ordered this monster! Soft drinks (Coke products), adult beverages, and "Sweet Treats" are also available. The bathrooms are inside the surf shop. Paid parking is right next to the store. No issue with the wait and the servers and staff were working hard and kind. That said, the prices were high for what you got and not having cups for water increased the dissatisfaction. We did enjoy the chips and the red salsa was good however our meals outside that were fairly flavorless. Pretty sure the only thing that was raved about was the Sangria Slush. I'm a fan of doing something and doing it well but not so sure outside the slush or the shrimp taco what the signature dish is here but it wasn't the specials, the seafood nachos, the beef, ahi tuna tacos.

Not expecting that for how full the parking lot was or on a holiday week. The waitress was nice but super slow service. She didn't check back often and we had to look for her to get anything we needed or our bill. We started with fried pickles and cheese curds. Both were standard bar food and perfectly fine. No complaints. Most of our party got chicken wings, some boneless and some not, and fries. I ordered a burger and Mac and cheese. Chicken ok, fries ok, Mac n cheese meh. The burger felt more like a fast food joint, as they had to bring out mayo and mustard because they don't put it on for you. It ended up a sloppy mess. Lastly cocktails. We ordered some pretty basic mixed drinks and they were awful. Didn't finish. I would say the vibe is so casual that for the money, you're better off doing Ricks's or another pub on the island where service is better and it's more of a dining experience instead of fast food. Probably won't be back.

I ordered the pork belly and cheese curds, as well as the smoked wings and mac & cheese (which I was so excited to eat that I forgot to snap a pic of, which RARELY happens). The meal was great. Amazing flavors that packed a punch. My only complaint is that it was really chilly in the restaurant for some reason, and I was shivering the entire time (even with my jacket) while eating my wings. I'll bring a beanie in the next time I come. :))

This restaurant by far has been…read morethe most consistent in the quality of the food, which is the best of all the restaurants in the topsail area. It is not fine dining and has the sports bar vibe. It is a relatively small place and I recommend going on non peak hours in season. If you are into oysters, they have a great selection of both local and regional on the half shell. If you prefer cooked, chargrilled or steamed is a good choice. While the menu has a great selection of seafood, the chalkboard specials features extremely fresh local catches which change daily. While there are several restaurants in and around the topsail area this is the only one where I have never been disappointed. If you go at peak hours during the vacation season expect to wait but it is worth it. You can't miss with any of the steamed shellfish offerings and if you prefer fried there batter is light and not overpowering. As a sports bar, they have a large selection of tap and bottled beers and a good mixology of liquor options which is only outdone in my opinion by Rick's in Sneads Ferry

I could've asked the price upfront (and usually do) but what the heck... we're on vacation. The server suggested we get a "double" and share it. OK. Sounds good. It came out quick. There was a TON of food for two of us. Shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn. It didn't have a lot of seasoning also on it, but - no problem - there was a rack with every hot sauce you'd ever need, plus salt, pepper and old bay. We both ate our fill and even left a few potatoes. The bill comes and it's less than $40. It might be the cheapest great meal I've had in a long time. Or maybe it's the "greatest cheap meal" I've had in a long time... I don't know. Bar ambiance, but pleasant enough for families. Mostly high tables. It all seemed very nice.
