Inside the restaurant.... Clean and inviting.

A++++ Surf City Smash absolutely lives up to the hype--and then some. I've been hearing about this place for the past year and knew I had to try it the next time we came down to Surf City, where we have a vacation home on the island. After reading all the glowing reviews and drooling over the photos, my expectations were high... and they were completely met. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a lovely young lady with a big, welcoming smile--such a great first impression. We ordered the double smash burger with fries and the Surf Philly with tater tots, and wow. Omgeee. The food here is fresh, cooked perfectly, and ridiculously yummy. The smash burger was juicy with that perfect crispy edge, the fries were hot and seasoned just right, and the Surf Philly was packed with flavor. The tater tots? Golden, crispy perfection. You can tell real care goes into the food here--from quality ingredients to thoughtful preparation. Surf City Smash is the kind of place that turns a casual meal into a must-visit spot every time you're on the island. We'll 100% be back, and I'll be recommending it to everyone we know. If you're in Surf City and haven't tried it yet, you're missing out.

YUMMY, this place is great! It's been our favorite place we've eaten on spring break. The staff are super friendly, and very attentive. The burgers are just delicious, and the fries/tots and little pita slices were very good. Definitely recommend this place, we will be returning!

Big portion for a double Surf City Smash Burger but was highly disappointed in the taste. Bacon jam and grilled onions had a strong and unenjoyable taste that was unfamiliar in comparison to other bacon jams/grilled onions. Both avoided eating the whole burger that contained the onions/ bacon jam. There's not much seasoning/ "golden crust" on patty for that great taste. Tortilla chips did not taste like tortilla chips. Tots were fine for what they are. Pretty pricey, around $45+ for this meal. Unique taste but not my best experience.

Let me start by saying the employees are first class! They great you like you being there has made their day! I checked out the menu online before we arrived. It's simple and that means they do things right! I got the single surf city smash which has the caramelized onion bacon jam! That jam is what I was waiting for! We split an order of fries because they also serve tiny pita chips with your burger. Not sure how those came about, but I'm surely not mad about it! They were warm and soft and lightly salted. You could order a soft drink or a beer, but I didn't need anything at that moment. We sat inside, reminds me a little of surf dog on the island- order at the counter, find a table and they'll bring the food out to you. Great service tho! They certainly have the market cornered when it comes to smash burgers!

Amazing smash burgers, and tots are yummy too. Don't skip the donut; it's prize worthy. You can get a cup for tea, and they have a sweet and non sweet option. Order at the counter, and take your number, food comes out fairly quickly. It's a lively place. Definitely check it out.

I am a local and finally came in to taste the famous Surf City Smash burger. It was a Wednesday around lunch time and still early in the season so I was able to order right away. The ask for your name and number so they can text you when your order is done. I ordered the double Surf City Smash and nothing else. It is pretty big and it comes with a side of flour tortilla chips. (Not crunchy) So it was okay, I'm not sure if it was the jam that just didn't do it for me or the sauce it was hard to tell. Like I said it is a big portion so you will be full. I like to give places a second try so I will be back and maybe try their N Topsail burger with tater tots! It's a cute spot and if you want a beer to go with that, well Salt Marsh and Salty Turtle is right next door.

Waiting on our order! First time here.

I finally stopped in to try this cheesesteak I've been hearing good things about and let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed. The surf Philly with its onion bacon jam is delicious! In fact, this is my second time here to order it this week and it was just as fantastic. My friend had the patty melt and she said she loved it. The crispy fries are so good. The service was friendly and timely. Our food was brought out to us at our table and we were checked on multiple times. The ambiance is welcoming but it is busy and therefore a little loud. I highly recommend people stop in and try them out when in the area! Great job Surf City Smash! We needed a place like this here.

We stopped in for burgers while on vacation and were pleasantly surprised by how yummy the food was! Most of us had burgers, which came with warm toasted pitas - very good! I also tried the Philly Steak, which did not disappoint. It was different from a typical Philly (much cheesier), but quite delicious! The service was fast and the restaurant was clean. The prices were moderate, but not outrageous for vacation food. I would go back again if we are in town!

    This was REALLY good

So this place was PACKED the first time we went so we opted to go elsewhere. We came a little later the next day and it was much easier to get in. I like that this place has a very limited menu. They know what they're good at and stick with it. The smash burger was REALLY good...but I didn't think the fries were great...and must be purchased separately. The burger already comes with these fried triangles that were delicious so fries were unnecessary. For the price it was a little expensive for just a burger but not too bad. The inside was cute but we opted to get the food to go and eat it at the brewery next door. This place should definitely be Topsails top smash burger place!

Came here on a Saturday after an afternoon at the beach around 5 pm. We were able to get a parking spot easily and we went right up to the counter to order. The menu is pretty small with a burger, Philly sandwich, sides, and grilled cheese. I ordered the Topsail Burger with a side of tater tots and really enjoyed it! It hit the spot after the beach. The inside had a couple tables inside and a bar. We were able to grab a table. Burger bun was so soft. I loved that the burger came with the pita chips! The chips were warm and crunchy! Delicious! I was very full after the meal. Price was fair $12 with a side of tater tots. Overall I think a great addition to surf city!

I usually don't like smashed burgers but this one was worth the blue ribbon that hung on their overhead menu! Service was fast and the place had interesting decor like the art logo and sugar cookies made by the owner's niece and the canvas on display of his dog. The owner came around to check on us and we talked a bit. Friendly chap. I love the fried tortilla triangles that come with the burger. And the fries are delish even when eaten cold (so many fries that I wasn't gonna toss so I took it to go!) Thanks also for the cookie delight!

There is a reason this place is always busy with only a couple of options. Best smash burger in the area hands down

I had the specialty of the house- Philly Cheesesteak. I have been to Philadelphia a couple of times so I remember how great those are. Even though it's made differently than in Philadelphia it is a very tasty sandwich. Their bacon jam is not jam at all. It is bacon, lots of onion and salt. The Cooper cheese along with the fresh bread puts it over the top

    Inside.

Not expecting that for how full the parking lot was or on a holiday week. The waitress was nice but super slow service. She didn't check back often and we had to look for her to get anything we needed or our bill. We started with fried pickles and cheese curds. Both were standard bar food and perfectly fine. No complaints. Most of our party got chicken wings, some boneless and some not, and fries. I ordered a burger and Mac and cheese. Chicken ok, fries ok, Mac n cheese meh. The burger felt more like a fast food joint, as they had to bring out mayo and mustard because they don't put it on for you. It ended up a sloppy mess. Lastly cocktails. We ordered some pretty basic mixed drinks and they were awful. Didn't finish. I would say the vibe is so casual that for the money, you're better off doing Ricks's or another pub on the island where service is better and it's more of a dining experience instead of fast food. Probably won't be back.

When I finally got my food, my party and I were very disappointed. Person #1 got a salad and said that the sauce burned their mouth and was utterly disgustes. It tasted like chili powder and strong vinegar, which was not the buffalo sauce listed on the menu. The chicken in their salad was in huge chunks, too big to eat with the ton of lettuce, and nothing else. Person #2's order was wrong and was basic frozen fish, like something out of Costco. Person 3 (me) got the Nashville hot sandwich. It tasted very bad as it was the same sauce experience as person one. Person one and I couldn't even finish our meals and were sickened. Don't recommend....

It is not fine dining and has the sports bar vibe. It is a relatively small place and I recommend going on non peak hours in season. If you are into oysters, they have a great selection of both local and regional on the half shell. If you prefer cooked, chargrilled or steamed is a good choice. While the menu has a great selection of seafood, the chalkboard specials features extremely fresh local catches which change daily. While there are several restaurants in and around the topsail area this is the only one where I have never been disappointed. If you go at peak hours during the vacation season expect to wait but it is worth it. You can't miss with any of the steamed shellfish offerings and if you prefer fried there batter is light and not overpowering. As a sports bar, they have a large selection of tap and bottled beers and a good mixology of liquor options which is only outdone in my opinion by Rick's in Sneads Ferry

There was a TON of food for two of us. Shrimp, sausage, potatoes, corn. It didn't have a lot of seasoning also on it, but - no problem - there was a rack with every hot sauce you'd ever need, plus salt, pepper and old bay. We both ate our fill and even left a few potatoes. The bill comes and it's less than $40. It might be the cheapest great meal I've had in a long time. Or maybe it's the "greatest cheap meal" I've had in a long time... I don't know. Bar ambiance, but pleasant enough for families. Mostly high tables. It all seemed very nice.
