If you're simply leaving the food on the table why cant we grab the food and go why do you have to argue with the customer telling them to wear a mask?? You also explain to me it doesn't matter if the person has a medical issue you were very clear and said do not eat here then. Shakabrah is a pretty cool restaurant cause there's two sides to the restaurant. One side where you can sit and they'll serve you. The other side you sit anywhere, but you have to go up to the menu to order and put your dishes away yourselves. I ordered the Big Country Breakfast and in the description it said "literally a platter of food for you" and man they weren't wrong! Came with three eggs, their shakabrah potatoes, meat of your choice, and biscuits and gravy. They were out of their original gravy so I got the substitution of the brown gravy. The gravy was a bit salty.. but still good! Definitely have to get a dish with their famous potatoes. I will definitely come back here some day! read more

Food was ok, its a little bit of a grungy hipster vibe, but that's what makes it unique. Only complaint is that each time I've gone they forgot to give us silverware until we asked. Also they get very busy so it's hard for them to keep up with bussing tables and keeping the floor clean. Stepped on garbage on the way out and some ass hole yelled at me for not picking up a nasty piece of soaking wet paper off the floor? I was really confused. Last time I checked, I wasn't paid to do so. I have a feeling he worked there, and if so it would be the second time I've run into an employee with a nasty attitude. I don't get it. I personally really like their food but the place is just too damn loud, I mean I literally cannot order my food without being asked "what" twice. Also the service is kinda shitty some of the servers are super sweet but the others are bitchy and stuck up. This place is just nasty. The waitresses looked like they just rolled out of bed after a hard night of drinking. The dish washing room looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the place opened. The bathroom stunk like old pee on the floor, the toilet was unstable- as in when I sat down it felt like I was goin to fall over. When I got up I noticed it wasn't bolted to the floor. I flushed with my foot because it was so gross in there I didn't want to touch the handle. Even tho it was 9 am, there was no toilet paper. And now the food: I ordered an egg scramble with mozzarella cheese. I assumed the cheese would be melted - nope, it came with a bunch of cold shredded cheese on top. Speaking of cold - that's the way both meals came. Although the food came rather quickly, the toast was cold, the potatoes were cold, the eggs were cold. I've been to this place before and it was good. Today it was horrible. We each took 2-3 bites and were done. We told the waitress about our disappointment and she comped both meals. First, the name...Shakabrah Java....nice work. I feel names of business are very important next to brand and of course product and experience. While in Tacoma on holiday we were really hoping to find a really GREAT breakfast place. Being from San Diego we are spoiled. We found SJ through Tacoma Mommas Blog www.tacomamomma.com because Yelp had very little to say about breakfast in Tacoma. With that being said, we liked the place. It had a great energy to it that was party gritty and co-op-ish if you know what i mean. The staff was very pleasant and the food was pretty damn good. We ate there two mornings of our four mornings in Tacoma. So, it was good enough to go back. The coffee was great which I would expect being in the coffee capital of the Pacific North West. I had a "Huevos Rancheros" that lacked authenticity but it was a great American variation on the dish that left me full and satisfied. There are lots of tables, a great library of books and games to take advantage of while eating or drinking coffee. It also ranks high due to it's creativity and it's energy. read more

The food is delicious! The coffee is amazing from their coffee bar. The staff are amazing and patient when we brought our baby and a big group of friends. If you have a big group, be prepared to wait. Always arrive early before you want to eat. It's definitely worth the wait and hype. read more

There shakabrah potatoes used to be good and tasted amazing but now taste full of artifical flavoring. The potatoes are so disgusting I almost threw up. They used to have amazing potatoes several years ago and good omlettes. They have gone downhill and I don't recommend this place as the prices are high and the quality is low. My farmers omelette was cold and cheese also not melted. The ingredients tasted like crap as they probably use artificial butter for them to on the grill. Server took care of the meal cost as I didn't even get past two bites. I just don't know what they did to make there menu worse. This place is not going to survive if they can't fix there food. read more

Stopped by this morning to have breakfast. Last time we were at this restaurant was with previous owners and had a fantastic experience so that's why I suggested they go back again. However new owners and more problems. Service was OK food was OK are eggs not cook the way we were requested sent them back and we paid for four eggs and only got two back. I think it would be better if the employees paid more attention To their customers instead of chitchatting with each other. And a smile or two wouldn't hurt either. This is an unusual, quirky joint that won't be everyone's cup of tea. Think dive bar meets diner. It was fairly busy, around 10 AM when we arrived. They seemed to be a bit understaffed for the volume and it took about 35 minutes for our breakfast order to arrive. The coffee had an unpleasant flavor (how can you screw up drip coffee?) and refills were slow. The food was decent and the portions were generous, especially the massive pancakes ($4.50 each). If you don't have a bit appetite, think about splitting one order with a friend. I don't think I've ever been inclined to mention a bathroom, but these were strange; graffiti and handbill packed. To be completely honest, I thought this place was more on the Hawaiian vibe side. But it was more of a traditional breakfast with a twist! My friend & I still ate here because I've seen some good reviews! I believe their potatoes is where it's at and it sure was! My entree came with potatoes, corn beef hash, eggs, and toast. One of the coolest spots I've been to in Tacoma. Plenty of seating, but it's very popular so you might end up waiting awhile. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and gravy potatoes to share with the wife. The pancake is HUGE and meaty. We originally ordered two, and the waitress suggested we downsize to one. It is a good thing we took her advice, as we were very full by the end of brunch. The gravy potatoes were delicious, but very salty. I definitely felt the meal after eating there. It was like they used yesterday's coffee in place of water for their coffee today. 4 sugars couldnt even revive it. We've eaten here a few times and it's always great. This last time my hubby and I shared the avocado and bacon omelette with Shaka potatoes. It was delicious! Fresh avocados and tons of bacon. The shaka potatoes are seasoned and cooked to perfection. The waitress was so friendly and sweet, she took the time to talk to us and make us feel welcomed. We had a question about going to the beach for the day and she was really helpful. The servers make sure everyone has a full coffee cup and tables are cleaned and ready for the next people, quickly. I give this cozy spot the credit for being one of the only breakfast only spots in town. I'm not 100% sure when they opened but I've been here a few times. -1st visit was with my daughter we sat in dining area. Really good atmosphere, food, and service. My Shakapotatoes weren't to liking my waitress fixed them without incident. Overall "yummm" plates and pancakes are HUGE! -2nd visit was a dining one and a study stop I had toast and a great mimosa. -3rd was today with my boyfriend. Sat in self serve this time. Food was great just not how I asked. Once again my waiter fixed it without incident. Pretty sure the issue was in the kitchen and not the floor waiting staff. She fixed everything for us.
