    New Double Classic Smashburger
    Morgan-Emilee A.

Great place to walk to if you're staying downtown. They have food, a brewery, pin ball, coffee shop all in one building. The smash burgers from Canteen were sooo good. We came back twice in one day! Service was quick and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting

DELICIOUS burger at the Canteen, right inside 7 Seas Brewing! I was quite hungry after flying into town and walking around the Museum of Glass for a bit, so I walked over to 7 Seas for some lunch and a drink. I had read reviews that their smash burgers were some of the best around, so I was excited to try! I typically would just get a pretty basic one, but the special they had going on sounded too good to not try - The "Gary Busey" Burger. This smash burger had two patties on a potato bun w/tots, shredded cheddar cheese, scallions, lettuce, tomato, and a scallion ranch sauce. This burger was divine, people were not lying that this is one of the best smash burgers I've ever had. Great flavors but although it sounds like a lot it truly wasn't too overwhleming. Amazing crispiness on the outer edges, and you'll always win me over with a potato bun. It was easy to order at the counter and pick up my food which was ready very quickly. Highly, highly recommend if you're looking for a good quality smash burger!

Shares the space with Seven Seas brewery. I ordered a single smash burger with a side of Tator tots. Super delicious burger on a fresh bun. With fresh veggies typically found in a burger. Lettuce and tomato slices. A few dill pickles and delicious! The side of sauce has a slight spicy horseradish r which I did not care for. Glad it was the side. And how can you go wrong with fried tator tots? Crispy and hot! Friendly service. Order at the counter and take your buzzer to wherever you're sitting.it buzzes when your order is ready. Perfect food to eat with beer. SYOY!

Really really good fries basket and boom boom sauce. Plenty of options for everyone and our food was ready quickly. We purchased cookies at the counter that were to die for! It's a large open space shared with 7 Seas brewing so lots of space if you're meeting up with friends. Parking is a bit of a bear.

Enjoyed the double smash burger with fries great side sauce. Bun was light but held up! Very nice vibe and when paired with a wintertime cider was refreshing!

Thought we were headed to a restaurant, which we sorta were, and thought it would look like a restaurant, which from the outside it most definitely did not. Once we figured out that the industrial shell below the empty-lot encampments was our destination, and once we stepped inside and up the massive staircase to the actual place, we found ourselves in a vast high-ceilinged hall populated with vast wooden tables and more than a few families out for Sunday lunch. A big bar brought home the brewery root of this establishment -- 7 Seas, specifically -- with two dozen banners announcing available quaffs for a wide range of tastes. Shortly, our room scan brought our eyes to the food source, our reason for being here. A short line of patrons stood reading laminated menus. We took our place among them, found the offerings adequate, and placed two similar orders: smash burgers and fries and cans of Coke. We claimed a space at the end of one shared table, with a big gap between us and the young family at the other end, and began a longer-than-expected wait for our simple meal. We passed the time watching a whirlwind of children, almost entirely elementary age, racing from table to table, pounding on arcade games, and intermittently reconnecting with their parents (most of whom sipped pints from the bar while visiting with friends and family). Our buzzer announced the food, which came in plastic baskets, and we got to work. We both judged the single burger adequate, though a double is the default. The single did leave a couple of bites a little lacking in meat. They were good nonetheless, with lettuce/tomato/onion/pickle toppings and a special sauce. (A gluten-free bun is available for an extra $1.) Both regular fries and sweet potato fries were hefty, well browned, and not oily; good job there. Altogether, a dramatic upgrade from typical fast-food burger joints, but at double the cost. Beers would have been fun to try, but they didn't figure into our day plan. Someday the timing might work out for another session. Two points: 1) This place is loud! The game corner and excited children echoing against hard surfaces made for a high ambient dB level, and 2) No TV screens!? Unless we missed something, this seemed a bit like a sports bar without the sports. Good for a change, especially when seeing kids so active rather than staring blankly at entertainment. We had little interaction with the staff, but all were at least friendly and at least one ebullient.

Fun great place! I love 7 Seas brewing, mainly because they brought back Heidelberg beer which is light and tasty. Canteen has moved into the kitchen area. They make sandwiches and burgers and other delicious foods! I had the beef and cheese. It is one of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time. Thin cut beef, with melted Beecher's, it also has grilled onions and pickled peppers. It is delicious!! Great friendly service along with being in an awesome venue. It is conveniently located in a great brewery so you can always enjoy a tasty beverage with your food. Kids are welcome!

Yummy food! One of the best soft pretzels with cheese sauce I've had. Seafood sandwich was delish! Reasonable prices.

Great food. Quick service. The venue is legit and energetic (7 Seas Brewery). Overall very good food! However, I'd say the quality of the food for what you pay is slightly mediocre. I got the burger special of the night and it was once of my favorite burgers ever! I just wish I could've paid $2 less for it..

Canteen by Camp Colvos is a small area in the Tacoma 7 Seas Brewery location in which they prepare mostly sandwich or hamburger type items mainly geared for customers that are enjoying 7 Seas beer and want a bite of something. Camp Colvos is a brewery and restaurant in which they have a larger location just a block or block and a half away in which they serve pizzas and their beer. And the original Caml Colvos location is on nearby Vashon Island where they have a fairly extensive food menu. The space where Canteen is now is where Built used to be in which they once served food here before moving to a larger location. Apparently making that move was not in their best interest because that restaurant is completely defunct and permanently closed. With Canteen I have had their sandwiches a couple of times. I had their Smashburger which goes well with many of the beer choices available at the taproom. And another time I got a simple grilled cheese sandwich which was very doable. Perhaps not quite as memorable as the predecessor of this cooking space Canteen still meets the needs just fine with hungry and munchy brewery patrons.

Braised Beef Pastie & Tater Tots
    Eddie J.

Looking for a great smash burger in Tacoma? Then head over to Canteen, located inside the 7 Seas Brewery & Taproom. The double classic is a perfect balance of thin beef patties, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and cheddar cheese on a brioche bun. Highly recommend pairing with a cold beer!

So, we went to 7 Seas and knew that 3uilt was no longer there. We were hoping something similarly vegetarian and carnivore friendly would be coming. Unfortunately, I wasn't super thrilled with the canteen menu. Although there are two veggie pasties, a salad, pretzel, and tots on the menu, It's nowhere near the healthy vegetarian menu that was available before. There isn't even a vegetarian burger, not that I would have been super excited about that. Maybe I'm just picky? The tots, however, were tasty and well seasoned and I'm not even a potato fan. The aioli is also really yummy. All in all, if you want a burger, I saw a lot of people really enjoying their burgers! If you want healthy veggie food, you may want to bring something with you and just enjoy the beer, cider, kombucha, and root beer.

    Chad B.

We were kind of sad to see 3uilt leave, but at the same time not really because of their bloated prices (see my scathing 3uilt review if you have nothing better to do). We ordered tots, a meat pie, and a pretzel. Everything was quite good. The meat pie seemed slightly overpriced for the portion size, but the pastry was quite good. It seems like a no brainer to put a food joint inside of a brewery. Keep your prices reasonable and you have guaranteed customers. We will eat here again for sure.

I couldn't remember the name of the place, but we found it: The Fish Peddler! We must have arrived at a perfect interval because there was a table for two that had just been bussed and ready for us near the large counter in the back where food was collected by servers and presented to hungry patrons at any of the 30-40 tables. Our server was genuinely warm and delightful and guided us to the menu and the on-line beer on tap information. Drinks were ordered and delivered in minutes - just enough time for us to announce our selections: A 3-piece halibut and chips for her, and for me, the albacore tuna with spring greens and gouda cheese on sourdough with a pint of I'm Not Afraid Of Music. It had the lowest alcohol content, and since I was driving, didn't want to push my luck. When our huge white dinner plates arrived - oh - did I mention the amazing jalapeño coleslaw? - we were amazed at the size of the perfectly deep fried halibut - which, on their own, provide a good bite, making only a smitten of tartar sauce necessary because you gotta have tartar sauce with fried fish, after all, right? I picked up one my sandwich haves and removed the toothpick with too much gusto and suffered a small splinter that I couldn't remove until I got home a couple of hours later with the help of a magnifying glass, a tweezer and some masking tape. But I ignored the splinter while I enjoyed my "this is NOT your mom's - or HER mom's - Tuna melt". The perfect balance of the albacore spread with the gouda showing up gloriously in almost every bite, the pillowy and cool greens and tomato slice that balanced the heat from the albacore between the two lightly toasted sourdough was my Valentine's Day gift to my mouth. We were stuffed, but not defeated - we ordered our cheesecake to go, and I get to have the last piece of halibut for a snack later on! It was great getting re-acquainted with This cozy, fun, busy restaurant since our last (and first) visit 3 years ago. My only regret is that for some unknown but surely inexcusable reason, I had waited three years before returning. Won't happen again.

Pros: - Our server was very sweet and came off as genuine! - The cocktails were really good! - The ambiance was nice! Cons: - Service was very clumsy, overall. - We came in on an averagely busy night (nice weather, but on a Tuesday - lots of open tables). Right off the bat, the greeters were not focused. We asked for a table for a party of two, and we found ourselves waiting there with no communication from them that they were working on seating us - basically they went back to chatting with each other. I had to go back and ask a few minutes later if they were planning on seating us before we got an "oh yeah, sorry one sec". Meanwhile they were joking around with each other. I truly am all for having a good time at work, but it wasn't clear that they were focused on us. I'm willing to believe they were working on it, but at the end of the day we were left guessing. - Our food took a pretty long time to get out, again compared to the fact that it was relatively slow. - Not gonna lie, the food was mid. I think I have realistic standards, but this is a relatively high-budget menu so I was expecting a little more. I'll end by saying, I'm not a serial negative reviewer. I wouldn't have left this review if the bill wasn't as pricey as it was. I believe that people are good, but the processes behind this place were rough.

Back before it was sold, my dad would come in, sit at the table, and instantly a Manhattan was placed in front of him. That wonderful, old-type service. The new owners have been around for a while and did a wonderful refresh on the property. They kept a lot of the household favorites on the menu -- mine being the shucked and sautéed crab legs. Extremely decadent and pricey, but well worth it. Anytime you're wanting to come for a birthday or a special event, I highly recommend this dish. If you're coming by yourself or just as a table of two, try getting a table in the bar. It's intimate and cozy, and probably only seats 20 people. Today was supposed to be a quick, light stop after work: shrimp cocktail, a couple drinks, and some time in the old Harbor Lights bar. Walking in, I was immediately reminded of one of my biggest frustrations with this space. Yes, it's small--but the outdated tables and chairs make it far too easy for people to block the walkways. And when those walkways are filled with loud, inappropriate, "stuck-in-1976" commentary from intoxicated older men acting like they're still in their 20s, it makes navigating the room even more uncomfortable. At one point, we were stuck sitting there listening to them loudly joke about having female urologists and proctologists--one word: GROSS. Speaking up doesn't feel like a safe or worthwhile option--it just escalates things. The bar could absolutely keep its charm while still evolving into a more comfortable, modern, and inclusive space. Then there's the menu situation--multiple menus stacked in front of you like a paper shuffle. It's unnecessary and could easily be streamlined. Now, the drinks... this is where things really fell off. Harbor Lights used to be known for strong drinks--that reputation feels long gone. I ordered a vodka-based drink and it went down like juice--no taste, no kick, nothing. When I asked for a double on the second round, the bartender laughed and said all their drinks are doubles and that they don't measure, claiming there was 2 1/2 oz of liquor in it. We watched him make it: no measuring, just a free pour over ice, stopping well short of the top, then filling it with rhubarb-strawberry purée. When it arrived, it felt more dropped on the table than served. I gave it a fair shot--a big sip--and again... no vodka taste whatsoever. No burn, no effect. I know my liquor, and this didn't add up. It really makes you question what's actually being poured. And then... the shrimp cocktail. How do you mess this up? This was the one thing I could always count on. It's always been unique and consistently good--but this time? Way too much horseradish. Completely threw off the balance. I still ate it, but it was not the same experience at all. Overall, this visit was disappointing. Between the uncomfortable atmosphere, lackluster drinks, and a once-reliable favorite falling short, Harbor Lights just isn't what it used to be.
