I've now been to three Shake Shacks in the metro Denver area. I keep hoping for an improvement, and yet, I still don't get it. The burgers are... OK, if a bit flavorless. They are similar to those found at Culver's, but can be obtained for a much more reasonable price there. The frozen custard is OK - much better than Freddy's, but again there's nothing to recommend it over Culver's, and Culver's isn't exactly great. There is no egg flavor to the vanilla as there should be, though Shake Shack seems to get the texture correct a bit more than Culver's does. However, the pricing at Shake Shack is best considered confiscatory. For much less money you can get the same experience elsewhere but not the hip cred. The bottom line: If you want this style burger, go to Culver's. If you want a GOOD burger in Boulder, go to the Dark Horse. If you want much better frozen custard, hope that Bova's reopens their stand, otherwise you will, again, at least pay less at Culver's. read more

In resuming my commute to Boulder I finally got a chance to pick up some Shake Shack and experience a blast from the past from my time in NYC. The experience was a little disappointing. Tasty burger and shake, but the fries were so-so. They also left out an order of fries (I should have double checked, especially reading the other reviews) and the whole meal was pretty expensive. This is now the 5th+ time that this location has messed up my order in a row. I am an avid fan of the brand and order at least once a week, but this location has done a horrible job with quality. They consistently forget to include items, have little regard for food already concerns. I'm allergic to peppers, and half the time, they still include them on the burger! I've spoken to the same GM, Kayla, over four times now, and she has assured me she'll look into it, but the same mistakes keep happening over and over again. I've worked in food service for several years, am a business owner, and again a loyal fan of Shake Shake, but the management at this location seems to be incredibly incompetent. I have never had a worse customer experience than I did at this store. I drove over an hour to get the food. I was given a completely wrong order, called back to ask for a refund and was placed on hold. got hung up on, called again waited 20 minutes to be hung up on again. called back for a third time and was told the manager would call me back. after an hour I didn't receive a call back so I called back again to hear they had no idea that I had been going through this issue but there was nothing they could do for me at this time. My friend described it best, he calls this an Accountant Burger. It feels like accountants designed this burger, not chefs. Overpriced for what you get. Taste was just not there on anything. My friend asked for crispier fries and the cashier said 'Sure'. When our food arrived, there was no difference on the fries. Checked the receipt and the cashier didn't bother to write our request down. Almost $30 for 2 people, with no drinks. This would be a fair value at $20. I've been waiting for a closer Shake Shack, as we don't get to Denver very often, but with our son in Boulder, this works perfectly... Close enough to enjoy and far enough that we won't over do. My sons and I did take out Sunday, and it was great. Burgers were awesome and the shakes were wonderful. My black and white was perfect, as were the black sugar vanilla and brownie batter hot cocoa. Honestly, it's all about the frozen custard, and this is the best outside of Ted Drewes in St Louis. (I wonder where Danny Meyer learned about frozen custard.) Quite disappointed with our first experience here. I ordered the hot dog with cheese sauce, and got a hot dog with no cheese sauce after waiting 25 minutes for our food to be ready (we only ordered 6 items for 3 people, so it was not a big order). Portions were very, very, very small relative to the price paid. The only reason I am not giving one star is because the rest of my family liked their milkshakes. From the time I arrived in line it was 60 minutes on the nose till I was served, and 40 min. of that was waiting for the order. I'd get served in half that time in a sit down restaurant. The burger was unimpressive, the fries tasteless, and the shake was small, one size. At $17 this was a disaster. The waiting line for pickup was 4 times longer than the line to order. I asked the pick-up window guy if they were short on staff and he said no, they were short on space, whatever that means. This is Slow Food at it's worst, and doesn't hold a candle to Five Guys, where the burgers are so much better, the fries larger, the shakes bigger, and all in less than 15 min. Last chance for them. Forget SS, and go to FG's!! The 2 stars is just out of sympathy. read more
