We stopped in here after an event at Blandair Park. The place wasn't too busy, but it was after the dinner rush, which was good. I ordered the Smoke Shack Burger, which has bacon and their pepper sauce on top. The beef, bacon, and pepper sauce were all quite good. We also ordered fries with cheese sauce, which was also good. It takes a little time to get your food, but they are preparing it after you order, so you know it hasn't been sitting under a heat lamp waiting for the next sucker to walk in the door. Outdoor seating here is nice and the employees were friendly enough. We ended up stopping back on the last day, as the kid wanted the burger place again before we drove back home. Overall, a good place to hit up if you're at an event at Blandair, but the food is a bit pricey. read more

My friend and I visited the newly-opened Shake Shack for lunch and were happy with our experience there. The service was good, and I was surprised that a Shake Shack employee went table-to-table to ask how the food was. I had the SmokeShack double with fries which was very good (I understand that fast food restaurants don't do custom meat temperatures; e.g. rare, medium, well), but I thought that my burger was too well done. My friend had the ShakeStack and fries and he enjoyed it as well. Even though we went at lunch time, we were able to find a table, and our food arrived quickly. When writing this review and searching for the Shake Shack online, I found it cool that this Shake Shake supports the local Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center (a nonprofit organization providing crisis and suicide intervention programs and shelter and assistance for the homeless). This is my new favourite burger joint ever. Unfortunately they don't have one in Hawaii even though they've got international locations in places like Qatar, Japan, S Korea and the UK! Gutted that they didn't open one in Hawaii but I am certain it is only a matter of time because this place serves phenomenal burgers!!! After he walked by to chat with the patrons, another lady came by to ask if everything was ok and if I needed another drink refill. I am blown away by the level of customer service here!! Ambiance: This place is a great (slightly overpriced) fast food place that actually could also work as a relaxed date! It was pretty busy in there the whole time we were there (especially since it's attached to Columbia Mall). There are plenty of tables to sit either inside or outside. The Shack Stack is a regular cheeseburger with a deep-fried, cheese-filled fried mushroom patty added! The cheese is so gooey- makes for the perfect picture (or boomerang) to take a bite and then squeeze the burger so the cheese oozes out. Try it. It's so satisfying. Everything is seasoned well and tastes fresh, the cheese sauce for the fries is delicious, and the shack sauce is a perfect dipping sauce for the fries (and for the burger, too!) I loooooove Shake Shack. I'm so happy I don't have to go to Baltimore or DC to have some amazing burgers. It's located at Columbia mall to the right of the AMC theater! I suggest parking in the garage behind it for easier parking than searching around the lot. I just want to say the service here surpasses all the other Shake Shacks. The employees are really friendly and helpful. Tables are quickly cleaned since you usually have to wait to snag a seat (bc they're usually busy). I recommend the Shack Stack if you're hungry, it's a Shroom burger (vegetarian option) Stacked with a classic burger. The fried mushroom had delicious melted cheese oozing out in the first bite. I like Shake Shack and I'm glad that there is one close, so that I don't have to drive to downtown Baltimore or D.C, but this location is too small. The service to order is pretty quick, but waiting for you food takes a while. Because this location is small, there isn't a lot of space to enter in line, and there isn't enough seating space. You are literally playing musical chairs trying to find a place to sit and enjoy your meal, but you can't really enjoy it because there customers glaring at you to finish your food, so that they can have a seat. It's like being watched by vultures! At least the bus boys were friendly and looking out, or this location would lose a star. In terms of food, Shake Shack is a bit overpriced for some fast food burgers and fries. The burgers are pretty delicious, the fries are golden and crispy to perfection, and the shakes are thick and smooth, but I don't think it's the best burger that I've ever had because it's also pretty small. I tried the Chicken Shack, and the chicken was juicy and crispy, but it didn't have much flavor besides the mayo that usually comes with it. If you are craving Shake Shake, I would recommend not coming to location during the lunch or dinner rush hours or order your food to go. read more

I finally got the chance to try Shake Shack and I'm quite impressed so far. I'm so glad this location opened up at The Mall in Columbia. I arrived on a Friday at 12 pm which is pretty much peak lunch time so there was a pretty long line. They tried to have me wait outside but I wasn't having it. It was way too cold for that. I kindly made my way to the back of the line INDOORS. I was provided with a menu as I waited so by the time I got to the register, I knew what I wanted. I ended up ordering my food to go and went back inside the mall to the food court to enjoy my food. There weren't any seats available in the restaurant and I didn't feel like waiting any longer. Now onto the food: my Shackburger was delicious. It was a pretty basic but well-executed burger. Although the patty was thin, it wasn't overcooked. The fries weren't worth bragging about. They were regular crinkle cut fries to me. They don't taste much different than the good ole Ore Ida frozen fries you can buy from the grocery store. And of course my favorite part was the concrete. The frozen custard was nice and creamy and made extra delicious with a piece of apple pie blended in there. After waiting about ten minutes, a kind customer informed us that her party was leaving so we could sit. Shortly afterwards, the buzzer rung and we got our food. My girlfriend ordered a SmokeStack (cheeseburger topped with bacon) with cheese fries and a shake while I got a Shack Stack (cheeseburger with 'Shroom burger together) with cheese fries and a black and white shake. My burger was delicious! It was my first time here and I had the Smoke Shack burger with fries. The Smoke Shack has red pepper and Shack Sauce and they both just made the burger unique and definitely tasty! I was skeptical about how the red pepper would tie in, but it was a nice salty, sour addition - somewhat similar to how pickles compliment a burger, just less vinegary. The shakes are made with custard instead of ice cream which makes them a very sweet and bold alternative to traditional, creamy ice cream shakes. Their fries are crinkle fries which normally I don't prefer, but they fry theirs to a perfect crispness. Price wise they were decent. It's definitely not fast food prices. We spent about $35 for three people and this included 3 burgers (all single patty) , 1 order of fries, 1 shake and 1 fountain drink. You can prob expect to spend about $10-$14 per person depending on what they order (adding shakes, fries and doing double patties increases the price). Service was good. It is an order in line and pick up your tray type of place (no table service/waiter), but they have staff that comes around to pick up your empty trays and garbage. Visited this new Shake Shack location this past weekend and was unprepared for the craziness. The line to order was out the door around 5:30pm and people were literally standing around everywhere stalking people hoping to snag their table. It's hard to get a feel for how big or small the restaurant is with so many people inside, but with it so crowded, it seemed pretty small. I'm hoping the hype dies down because it was pretty chaotic... loud... people from what was supposed to be tables for two taking chairs from the legitimate tables that were supposed to have a bench and two chairs.... I spent a good amount of time going around asking random people if they were going to be using the empty chair at their table (which of course, they all were). Anyway. Despite the craziness, it didn't take terribly long to get our food after we ordered it. It looked DELICIOUS. My hubby and I both ordered the Shack Burger. He ordered a double and I ordered a single. Very juicy and cooked just right. Toppings were fresh and proportionate to the burger. I don't know what makes Shack Sauce, but I quite enjoyed it. We also got an order of regular fries and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm typically not a crinkle fry type of gal, but these impressed me. VERY crispy, just the way I like them, and not too salty. I do think that they price range indicator for yelp is off. For me and my hubby, who ordered one drink to share, one order of fries to share, one single burger, and one double burger, our bill was just over $20.00. I won't say it wasn't worth the price, but I will say I would have enjoyed my meal significantly more if the place wasn't so crazy and crowded. After the first few times eating anything from shake shack - I would've said don't believe the hype. But after coming to the newly constructed Columbia location and trying it one more time, I have to give in and hop onto the bandwagon cause these burgers are pretty good. If you've never been to SS, a good way to give you a glimpse into the phenomenon (before visiting SS) is to compare Five Guys with Shake Shack. I'd have to say SS has quicker service, better fries, and honestly comparable or similar burgers. Not to say that 5Guys and SS burgers are identical in their composition, I simply think both burgers are pretty good and in the same stratosphere considering taste. I ordered the double hamburger with LTO (didn't get any cheese simply because I don't think cheese really make any significant difference other than on the bank statement and weighing scale) and side of crinkle cut fries. To my surprise, the meal tasted nothing like what is served in Baltimore and DC. The burgers and fries boasted a perfect mix of freshness and fatty indulgence. The fries were amazingly crisp on the outside and mashed potato-y soft on the inside. And the oil on the burger was apparent but not overly so. The one aspect I think SS could improve on, however, is the seasoning of their burgers. I thought the burgers were oiled moderately and was appeasing to the eye, but it could definitely be more ideally seasoned. The location of this SS may be the top 2 best in the DMV area (that I know of), perhaps 2nd to the Tysons Corner location. But even though the Columbia location may not trump the Tysons SS, it makes up for it in the fact that it's usually not as crowded. Overall, 4.5/5 stars. read more

I will start this post by saying that I used to love Shake Shack, but my experience this evening was horrifying. I ordered my food (it's my birthday weekend so I wanted to indulge) at 5:40 pm and the website said it would take 9-14 minutes. When I arrived to the restaurant at 5:50 it wasn't ready, but it was also packed so I was fine waiting. I ended up waiting for forty minutes with my toddler and ended up with NO FOOD! I gave multiple workers my name and order info and the food was never prepared, even though I was told that it was being packaged. I also witnessed a group of young people stealing 3 large bags of food. Eventually I asked for a refund because my 8 month old daughter was screaming her head off in the car (with my husband) while her mother was just trying to get some food. read more
