It's been a while since I've been back to this Shake Shack, but the addition of 3 new mobile ordering monitors seemed a good idea to me. At first I did f like the personal interfacing, but I quickly got used to liking it more! The pictures on the touch screen proved colorful, accurate, and helpful. At check out, the screen prompts you to add your name and to pick an order number from the available numbers stacked on the counter. It was not immediately there, but we put "67"! So we waited for our number to be called! It made us smile! We ordered the Shack Burger, Cheese Fries, and regular Vanilla Shake all of which cost a lot more than it should. All this to still say that the food was still very good. The burger patty on the Shack Burger is "smash" grilled with the perfect crunch and give and was oh so delicious. The crinkle cut fries had a cheese topping that is very creamy, not too runny, and is just perfect! The Vanilla shake was so good, we polished it off before we could take a photo! This place wasn't very busy for a late Tuesday afternoon, there was LOTS of available eat in seating to be had. The bathrooms here were clean too! This was my first time visiting any Shake Shack location, here in Columbia, Maryland. I was actually surprised during my visit, because I was really thinking that this was going to be one of those awesome 5-star experiences, but it just wasn't. As I approached this business, I found the outside to be clean and the landscaping was pleasant. After entering, I was immediately faced with a bunch of kiosks for customers to place their orders. I just don't like kiosks. To me, this just shows me a business that is trying to reduce their customer service by not hiring cashiers and making the customer perform the cashier's job with no cost benefit to the customer. After placing my order, I was then questioned with how much I would like to tip. I found this to be even more annoying. What am I tipping for? The quality of the food?...I haven't eaten it yet. The quality of the service?...I haven't received any yet. Tipping BEFORE any experience is ridiculous and presumptuous. To me, tipping is a way for the customer to show that they are satisfied (or highly satisfied) with the experience they have had AFTER they have had it. I ended up ordering the double SmokeShack Burger, which comes with two beef patties, cheese, bacon, cherry peppers, and ShackSauce. The burger was really delicious, but I was surprised by how small it was for being a double. I also ordered the Bacon Cheese Fries, which are crinkle cut French fries topped with cheese sauce and bacon. This was pretty good too, but not as good as I thought it would be. For my drink I was going to get a soda-pop, but then I decided to try their Shack-Made Lemonade. It tasted weird, and I regretted getting it. I was served at my table by a server who delivered my food without saying a word. While eating my meal, I noticed that the inside of the restaurant looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. In fact, I did not see anyone cleaning anything inside during my entire visit. Even more disturbing was the lack of friendliness of the employees. I kid you not, there were about a dozen people working here during my visit and I did not see a single employee crack a smile...not for anyone. While leaving, I decided to order their Chocolate Blackout Pudding Shake. After getting back to my hotel with this for dessert, I only had a few spoonfuls. Again, this tasted weird. I ended up throwing out 90% of it because it just wasn't very tasty. In total, I spent over $33, which is a ridiculously high cost for one fast food meal. In comparison with my favorite fast food restaurant, In-N-Out (primarily in the western U.S.), I can get a similar meal at In-N-Out for about HALF the cost. I don't know about you, but if I pay substantially more I expect a substantially better experience. I hope that the other Shake Shack businesses don't operate like this one; This was NOT a worthwhile experience, especially considering the cost. read more

3.4.25 It's been a while since I last went there. I received an email with a promotion for a chicken combo for $9.99 which includes a small fry and fountain soda. Hubby and I stopped by for dinner. I ordered the chicken combo and he ordered a burger and small fry. We placed the our order on the kiosk. We were looking for the chicken combo, but couldn't find it. It wasn't as intuitive as we thought. We asked for assistance and were told that we had to select each item individually, not as a combo, and upon check out, enter the promo code. We received a number to place at our table. The food was brought out to us. Hubby and I split our chicken and burger. I thought the chicken sandwich and fries were good, but would've preferred the fries to be cooked longer so they were crispier. Hubby said that he prefers the chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-A. I thought the burger was good but very small. He said that he prefers the burgers at Five Guys. Burgers at Five Guys can definitely be more filling if you add more toppings. Overall, a good experience, but a bit pricey, given the portion size and that they don't have combos available. read more

Looking for burgers and fries plus beer and veggie options? This is a great place to grab then quickly. They typically have a lot of offers on the app throughout the month and their food always taste the same, so consistency is great in that aspect. Currently they have a buy one get one free double stack until Halloween. I haven't yet taken advantage of it but I think I just may. The last time I visited, I took advantage of a free sandwich deal with purchase of fries, I believe. Is definitely convenient to order and the app and pick up but you can also order in the store as well. read more

I love the cookies & cream shake. Their burgers and fries are solid too. I like there is a water station with courtesy cups as well. They are relatively fast even when a bit busy. The store is clean, and I like they also have an outdoor eating area as an option. My biggest compliant is that the Shake Shack app isn't user friendly, but on a positive they put the kiosks to order and use any discounts with codes on the larger tablet screens than trying to do on your phone. But they replaced the cashiers with the kiosks, but there is someone who will come out to help, which I see people need help often. I know my mom struggled with it at a different location, I tried to help, but ultimately we had to get a helper. Additionally, I don't like that they assume people want to pay with a credit card. Without a cashier, you can't give cash. That I find annoying. Although I use credit at least 95% of the time in general, I want to have the option to pay cash. Overall: I wish I could give this place a 3.5. The employees are really kind, but for a fast casual spot I find the food to be overpriced and the wait to be long. The ambiance is cleaner than fast food and has both indoor and outdoor seating. They have at least one employee out and about the dining area to support customers which I find really helpful and the one there yesterday was super kind. The burgers are good and the fries are okay, but if I'm going to pay 8 dollars for just a burger and have to pay separately for the fries, I'm expecting more. The menu is simple, which I like, but I do wish they had the option of sweet potato fries. I prefer to order online because it's more clear about what you can customize on your burger and then you don't have to wait so long there. I like that they offer Old Bay at their condiment station- it's a real nice MD touch. I wish they had some other condiments there than ketchup though. Was craving Shake Shack and a promo pushed me to go. First time trying their famous smashburgers and my takeaway is their portions felt too small. Unhappy with what I paid for over what I received. I feel less so when I go to other restaurants of similar pricing. And not like the burgers were that great anyway. Great crust and seasoning, but didn't get a lot of meat. Wanted to specifically shout out this man, expo'ing the food. It is BUSY here on a Saturday night, but he is cool calm and collected. He's come up with creative solutions (like finding a spot for a big group of homecoming kids so they'd have a table to sit together and the lobby would clear out). He's clearly respected by his team as they all respond immediately to his requests without annoyance. He's on top of every order coming out, making sure everyone gets 100% of their order correct before sending them off. He's been friendly and above and beyond helpful while working with expedience. Shack burger: even though it's a fast food type of burger, it definitely taste higher quality. The patty was bigger than the bun. I could have gotten a much more flavorful, bigger and cheaper sandwich from Popeyes! I also got a side for fries and it was just ok. I didn't feel satisfied with this meal. I'm not a huge fan of Shake Shack in general and I've only visited their DC locations, but decided to give them a try since I was just leaving the mall and wanted something quick. I was pleasantly surprised how well a busy place like this handled ordering & dining during a pandemic. We opted to eat outside and they asked where we'd like to sit so they could bring our meals out. The doors are kept open and you have to social distance in line. There's plastic so you aren't face to face with the cashier as well. The food: fire as always. I had a single shack cheese burger--you can't find a better casual dining burger. I just went there for lunch and wow, was I disappointed. The required process for placing my order involved stepping to a kiosk and typing it in there. The prices were high, but I figured I'd splurge. I ordered a cheeseburger fries and a milkshake. The total bill was $17.78. By the way, after you had placed your order, the kiosk asked if you wanted to tip in addition. The lowest tip they had was 10%. I obviously neglected to tip at all. I then went to find a table. The one I selected had a lot of leftover burger bits on it. That table had clearly not been cleaned. When the meal came, I was further let down. The milkshake was 8 ounces, the fries were not at all large, and the burger was rather small, as well. The quality in the food was OK, at best. As I was leaving, I asked to speak with the manager. I explained what it happened and she was kind enough to offer me a full refund. I don't expect that I will ever return to Shake shack again. read more

I had the most wonderful experience this afternoon with my son. I never thought I'd say this about a fast food burger place but one person working there made our visit perfect. They were extremely busy and we had to wait in line to order which was fine. Our food arrived and everything was delicious and the order was correct. There was one person working the main dining area named Chance. He was refilling items, helping to go orders, delivering trays to tables, checking in with customers, and going above and beyond. I left astonished because I'm just not used to people being nice and jumping in to help so quickly anymore. He checked on us and everyone else. Without Chance our meal would have been good but knowing he was there happy to help made our outing so much better. Whoever this man is he deserves a raise and an award because he put the kindness back into dining out. This man needs to be in charge of operations and training on how to do business. read more
