I entered my phone number but the promo didn't show up. After checking my phone, I realized it had just expired. I asked the attendant if, since it was for my birthday, they could honor it. She went to ask the manager. The manager came over and I explained the situation. She said no, her reasoning? "If I do it for you, I have to do it for everyone." That didn't sit right with me. How many people are really coming in every day asking to honor an expired birthday promo? For a small oversight, I'd have to wait another year to use it? It made me feel like my business didn't matter. We're talking about $5, not a free treat. I work in the financial/service industry, so I pay close attention to customer experience. This interaction said a lot: the attendant likely didn't have the authority, but the manager had the opportunity to create a positive moment and chose not to. Moments like that are where you either create a loyal customer or lose one over something small. Safe to say, this wasn't handled well. I left more disappointed than anything. I don't see myself coming back in the near future.
